What a great place! (Since 2018). We stayed in the Elizabeth Barrett Browning room (yes next to the front door) and loved it. Newly updated this room was so comfortable (loved the gas fireplace). The Inn owners Dale and Misael are very genuine, outgoing, informative and very knowledgeable about the history and places to eat in Portland... steered us to great venues. Continental breakfast was good and we loved the set up of the dining area and having access to snacks 24/7. Thank you for the great ambiance and hospitality. We plan on returning! (2024 Visit, still a wonderful establishment in a perfect location in Portland) (2025 Visit, exceptional as always!) P.s. (2018) We found our room, next to the front entrance, to be quite acceptable. We were a little worried by some of the reviews, but we've had far noisier experiences in those typical long huge hotel hall ways with the throngs of people walking through, getting ice and elevators. Street noise nothing. Even if the windows had been open the noise was just normal. Unless you need to bed yourself in a complete vacuum don't let the negatives count this room out. read more

The Percy Inn. Where to start...let's start at their misleading web site , showing a candle and a beautiful piano in a comfortable room with a fireplace. None of which exists, not found despite our extensive exploration of the Premises. No piano, not common sitting area. Instead, a narrow, steep staircase with a curve making it impossibly difficult for us to carry luggage up this flight of stairs. Let's also start with our call at 2pm on the day of our arrival. A courtesy call to advise them of our arrival time. The phone rings, and after several rings, a voice answers. Not with "good afternoon, Percy Inn" not with "hello" or not with "hi this is the Percy Inn", but simply with a bothered "I'm listening". That's all. Huh? Ok. We arrive. No one there. No one answers the doorbell. No one greets you. A guest happens to open the door. Lets us inside. There's an envelope on a desk with my name and instructions on where the room is and a few policy notes. We carry our luggage up a 20-step narrow curved staircase to our room. The next morning we wake early and go into the adjacent breakfast room. A gentleman walks in carrying a tray. No "hello", no "good morning", just a pissed off "coffee isn't ready" clearly annoyed by our presence. Once breakfast is ready we discover there is no cooked meal. Just a simple continental breakfast with hard bagels, Raisin Bran and yesterday's leftover pie. We finish eating and a different gentleman (clearly the owner) comes into the breakfast area. No hello. No "how was your evening?" No head nod. Nothing. We grab our suitcases, and as we are heading downstairs, he calls out to us with "I'll be right down to check you out". A lesson in how NOT to run a Bed & Breakfast. One star for location. Zero stars for everything else. read more

It was charming.We were warned we may hear noise from the adjacent kitchen as breakfast was being prepped but if there was any noise, we were unbothered. The Percy Inn is one of the cutest places I've ever stayed at, and that's coming from someone that has been to dozens of hostels and bed and breakfasts. We stayed at the Ralph Waldo Emerson Room in order to have our own private deck, and we loved every second we spent here. It was such a nice spot to enjoy a glass of wine as we watched the sunset. The place is conveniently located walking distance to everything in Portland, but far enough to enjoy some peace and quiet. What makes this place special, besides the cute rooms with plenty of northern charm and unique touches, is the staff. They inn keeper was so accommodating and attentive. They gave us clear instructions on how to check in since we arrived at 3AM, and were always on top of our room and needs. The breakfast was as cute as the kitchen area of the Inn. The whole place, honestly, just looked like it was out of a story book. The room itself was super spacious, and they left plenty of sodas, water and even croissants for us in the mini fridge. The bed was comfortable and the room was decorated in a way that made you feel cozy, with local art and vibrant colors. We cannot wait to stay here again! read more

Absolutely in love with the quaint, fairytale feel of this place. I've stayed here a few times and have little reason to shift venues on subsequent visits. I've stayed in the Longfellow Suite on the second floor, which is my absolute favorite, and the Emerson room on the first floor with its own private deck and entrance. While each room has its own individual feel, there is comfortable consistency with the Inn's amenities and service. You'll immediately notice such simple comforts like the extremely comfortable bathroom towels, socially acceptable bathroom shampoos/soaps, and individual jar candles to add that homey touch when on the road. Love the unlimited healthy breakfast options, from fruits, cakes, yogurts, cereals, etc, etc. It almost feels like a steal! Highly recommend it to any and everyone. read more

Stayed 1 night at the percy Inn. They upgraded us to the Longfellow suite. First let me just say if you are looking for an over night during covid; look no further. This place is it!! They take safety to a whole other level! You are given the code number to enter. On the hall table is a letter for you. They have hand sanitizer at the table. They tell you that you must wear a mask inside . Your room is left open with the key on the table . Welcome plate of snacks is wrapped and on the table. The mini fridge has soda, juice, and breakfast all wrapped. They have a cleaner out as well. The room. Let's say they take pride in this inn. It is spotless. Extremely clean! The bed was very comfortable. Bathroom is clean but tiny. But has everything you need. They have a nice little side yard as well. As we were enjoying the garden we saw the the owners, Dale and Misael. They seemed pleasant. And if you need anything you can call them due to covid restrictions. Parking is next to the inn. Price was 1/2 as much as any other place we looked at for a Saturday night. Easy 20 minute walk to the furthest point of the" port area". Lots of places near by. Was very quiet after hours to sleep. "Adorable" and "cozy" are the words that spring to mind when I think of the Percy Inn. The inn is not typical of a standard hotel. Instead, each room is more personalized, and contains a mix of eclectic, rustic furnishings, linens, and furniture. We stayed in the Walt Whitman room on the third floor. It was exactly to our taste, clean, and the bed was very soft and comfortable. Complimentary soft drinks, coffee, and tea were made available to us, and we made use of the snack station on the second and third floors. The innkeeper, Cindy, is a joy to talk with. She made excellent recommendations for food and activities in the area. Additionally, she provided us with chilled bottled water upon checkout. The Percy Inn is conveniently located within sight of Congress Street, one of the "arteries" that make up Portland's downtown and arts district. The art museum, the Maine Historical Society, the State Theater, and dozens of outstanding restaurants are a five minute walk away. My partner and I had a fantastic experience staying here. We will definitely be making future arrangements to stay here the next time we visit Portland. read more

Hmmm where to start ... Pros: Check in was easy and they have a cool Little dinning area that's 24 hrs. And you can pretty Much help Yourself to anything you want they are pretty well stocked with snacks. They offer a free breakfast from 8-10 (didn't try it) Hand soap smells delightful Cons: The place is dingy. Carpets look gross and our room had a chewed up Looking tootsie roll stuck in it. (Gags) Shower didn't look clean had hair balls all over the walls and it wasn't my hair (gags again) They have brown towels (kind of Strange and doesn't give you that oh so clean feeling) The plants in the pictures online ended up being fake a filled with dust The pillows are all different and totally lumpy. This place feels like a hostel! If your room is on 2nd floor next to kitchen you can't sleep In as everyone is getting the free breakfast @8am (noisy) Sad we have to stay here 2 nights. Fingers crossed we don't get bed bugs or some strange rash (fingers and toes crossed and they washed the sheets) Most of The Inns in this city all have the same vibe. The Percy Inn is a fantastic choice for your time in Portland! We stayed 2 nights in early October and were extremely happy with our room and the inn in general. It's conveniently located next to Longfellow Square. We choose the Dorothy Parker Junior Suite and LOVED it! So charming and clean. If we had one negative it would be the water pressure in the shower but it was really no big deal. We did not mind climbing the stairs and felt it was secluded and quiet on the 3 rd floor. The room was perfectly appointed down to the last detail and having a fridge and sink was perfect for our Trader Joe's run for wine and cheese. The breakfast was nice and they had the most amazing blueberry crumble. We would stay here again in a heartbeat! read more

I was not able to experience the inn but my check in experience was quite a nightmare. Upon arrival before 3pm, the inns maid attempted to check us in to our room. She could not find any information under my name, despite booking the room over a week in advance over the phone and having a confirmation email. The issue was our reservation was mistaken for another person with the name Scott and my last name is Scott so that party got the room and we didn't. The suggestion of the Clarion Inn which was no where near being walking distance to downtown Portland was extremely unhelpful. I appreciated that the inns keeper offered a future night on him as an apology but the experience did not make me want to come back and test it out. We ended up at the Holiday Inn and it was a great experience and much closer walk to all the restaurants, bars and waterfront attractions. read more

After deciding on a last minute trip to portland, my boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place through our internet perusals. The room we were looking for was not available for both nights, but after a phone call, they were able make some adjustments to accommodate us for two nights in a room in our price range. They arranged a late check in for us, and were very understanding of our schedule. Cindy could not have been more welcoming. She chatted with us over breakfast, providing us dining recommendations (which were spot on -- best steak of my life) and even a place to get an amazing cup of coffee (aurora provisions. Try it out if you're staying here!). The location is perfect and the accommodations were lovely. The room was spacious and cozy, and the amenities were as promised. She even let us hold our bag there for a few hours after check out so we could explore portland without the burden of a wheeled suitcase. We stayed at the Percy Inn in Portland, Maine and it was very enjoyable. The room ( Ralph Waldo Emerson) was quaint and well furnished. Big bathroom, comfortable bed, and seating. Several recommendations...although the soda in the fridge was thoughtful, we would have preferred bottled water as well. We aren't big soda drinkers but everyone can always use water. Even though it was winter, the deck for the room was not shoveled. The breakfast selections were very good. However, a small coffee pot in the room should be considered if you are up before the dining room, as we were both mornings. The Inn manager, Cindy, was very accommodating, very nice to chat with, knowledgeable and professional. As the face of the inn , she needs to be recognized. He said "sure your room is ready, no problem," and proceeded check in with a woman who worked there that was very nice. When we were getting ready to leave, the owner walks in and seemed irritated that we had checked in before 3, even though we were previously allowed and were only looking to keep our bags there. He remained pretty unpleasant towards us the next day at breakfast. How about communicating with your employees/coworkers better rather than being unpleasant towards your customers? read more

Percy Inn provided a clean, cozy, well-priced room in a wonderful Portland neighborhood about twenty minute walk from the Old Port. The lovely 1800s building made for a very traditional New England retreat, indeed. We stayed in the Walt Whitman room and the super dated decor strangely added to the overall charm. Our stay also included a continental breakfast with fresh fruit, pastries, cereal, toast, bagels.... and sometimes, only sometimes, coffee. Annoyingly enough, two out of the three times we went to breakfast, the coffee was out and another pot wasn't put back on. Having a single pot of coffee available for the entire room is ridiculous and being reminded of my bleary pre-caffeinated self is almost enough to make me dock this review a star (but I'll be nice). The inn "hostess" was quirky but sweet, and our stay was pretty no-frills but perfect for our few needs. read more

I have never written a yelp review before but just had tto share what a wonderful experience we had at the Percy Inn from beginning to end. The booking was very simple and all communication was very clear. Great parking. We were nicely allowed an early check in to be able to have time to get to a matinee. The theater was a short walk as was every other thing we wanted to do including the art museum and a terrific restaurant, one choice of many in the neighborhood. Our room was absolutely charming and spotlessly clean. There was a small fridge, candies by the bedside, nice soaps and towels and an extremely comfortable bed with nice linens. Plenty of outlets for electronics, good WiFi, easy TV instructions. Generous continental breakfast with healthy choices. Quiet and so comfortable and convenient. The best part though was Cindy the inn keeper who made us feel like cherished guests. What a delightful woman! read more

We loved this place and won't be looking for another location to stay the next time we come to Portland. I'd describe the whole operation as "laid back" It's a smaller operation, so the front desk isn't always manned, but a quick call from the phone at the front door connected us to the innkeeper, who gave us the entry code. We found our parking pass by the front and our keys on the bedstead. We stayed in the Percy Bysshe Shelley room on the second floor, which adjoins the breakfast room. The room it's self was clean, the bed was comfortable, and we loved the decor. Coffee, tea, and various light foods were available in the breakfast room round the clock. We could hear some diners in the morning, but it was not a disturbance. Cindy was a wonderful hostess and a fountain of knowledge about the area. Stayed here just for a quick overnight while we were passing through town - it was absolutely lovely! It was a quaint BnB in an 1830s federal-style row house. We stayed on the top floor in a suite with a bedroom, a dressing room, four windows and a "two-person" shower. We checked in late, but there was a personalized welcome note waiting for us and the candles in our room were lit. The room had a fridge with a limited selection of sodas (gratis), a tv, and a phone. There was a fantastic library downstairs with lots of old books, recent DVDs and VHS tapes (plus a player for each in our room), and a baby grand piano. The WiFi was fast and easy to connect to. The innkeeper wasn't around when we got there or when we left, but there was a lot of information at our fingertips about the area - handouts with directions to other towns, local airports, suggested restaurants and a touristy map of the town with lots and lots to do. We had to miss the morning breakfast, but the pantry had snacks (fruit and potato chips) that were available 24-7. The only reason it lost a star was because only one shower head worked in the two-person shower. I'd also recommend that if you are at all mobility impaired, stay off the top floor. The stairs are verrrrry narrow and verrrry steep. We asked for a top-floor room though and were very happy with it! read more

Stayed here this past week with my fiancee while she attended a conference and I toured all of Portland's coffee shops that offered free wi-fi. We found the Percy Inn while Googling around and booked it after we discovered it was cheaper to stay here 3 nights than it was to stay at the conference hotel for 2. The owners were very helpful on the phone and very accommodating when we said we'd be arriving late. Yes, the stairs were steep but our 3rd floor room was worth it (Keats.) Quiet, huge bathroom, complementary drinks in the mini-fridge, and bedside M&Ms. Breakfast was a large spread including cereals,muffins, fresh fruits, and a fresh baked pie! The innkeeper (regrettably forgot her name) was a delight and because we were staying a few nights, even offered to make us eggs and bacon or go out shopping if we wanted anything else (we were fine with cereal)!! The location can't be beat for access to downtown Portland. And when I wasn't out guzzling coffee, I was in the room working away (they have free wi-fi too) and helping myself to the complementary snacks they have on hand 24/7. All in all it was a great stay. Rooms were clean and always stocked with fresh towels, and the staff was bend-over-backwards friendly (even let us park our car in their lot several more hours after checkout!) Next time we're back in Portland (which will hopefully be soon because it's awesome), we're definitely staying at the Percy Inn. read more

My husband and I stayed here partly for vacation and partly for business. This place was a great find! Super cozy and cute and we couldn't ask for a better location. We were just footsteps away from everything. Our room was comfy--I think I got some of the best nights' sleep I've ever had. Nice little Inn located in Portland Maine. Close to restaurants and a nice walk to the waterfront. The Percy Inn is a good alternative to the usual hotel stay. The Inn can appear a little dated and could use some maintenance but overall was clean and quite. The staff was friendly and helpful. Loved this place! My flight was five hours late to land, so I didn't end up arriving at the inn until 11 o'clock. I was still able to get in with the door code, and a welcome letter was left for me at the entrance. I did call ahead of time to warn that I would be late, and the owner said it was no problem. There was a nice selection for breakfast, but I often missed it since I was so many hours jetlagged. Even after breakfast hours, there were still bagels and bread, yogurt, and cakes/pies available to eat. The coffee/tea station upstairs was a nice surprise. I had some tea every morning and night. Had such an amazing trip to Portland and a big part of that is because of staying at The Percy Inn. Very cozy and clean with lots of charm. No hassle what so ever with booking rooms and checking in or out. The accommodations are so thoughtful (leaving the pantry open 24 hours for snacking, library of board games & movies etc.).
