It has taken me several months to finally write the review that Pet Dr deserves. This review isn't about their already known high prices, the staff or facilities; this review is solely based on the vets failure to diagnose. I took my dog to see Dr Stephanie Fotorny at Pet Dr in March of this year for severe diarrhea. I asked for a full exam and proceeded with a full physical examination, full panel of bloodwork, urine analysis, stool samples, abdominal ultrasound, booster vaccinations as well as repeat all labs at their recommendation due to his high thyroid levels. Note, the full physical examination included using a sethoscope to listen to his heart and lungs as well as palpating his abdominal area etc - a standard protocol with animals as well as humans. Fast forward 2 months of repeat labs and exams, I just wasn't happy with the vet for some of the reasons mentioned from other reviews. I asked for all of my dogs records for a second opinion. I took him to TWO other vets for a second and third opinion and was immediately told by both vets that my dog had a very loud heart murmur that could be easily heard during the physical exam. A heart murmur that advanced does not develop in 2 months. Due to this severe, loud, unmistakeable heart murmur that was heard by the vet, it was recommended to further investigate what was going on with taking X-rays which revealed a significant enlarged heart to confirm what the 2nd and 3rd vet suspected. My dog was diagnosed with end stages of congestive heart failure. How didn't Dr. Fotorny from Pet Dr hear the heart murmur 2 months prior when she did her FULL exams on my dog using a sethoscope? Take the responsibility that you lacked the knowledge and missed a huge diagnosis. Will my dog have died regardless? Yes, 100%, however I was able to prolong his life comfortably another 4 months with proper medication and procedures and the right vet. Please don't respond by trying to defend yourself and insult me like you do with all the other negative reviews you get. A simple apology and getting the proper retraining will go a lot further than insulting people. I will not hesitate to attach every single receipt with dates including the full exam that was performed, all labs, the abdominal sonogram pictures and report, (which by the way was interpreted stating the view of his heart was normal which infact it was significantly enlarged - again something that doesn't happen in 2 months time). You either didn't bother listening to his heart or lungs or you don't have the proper training. Take this review and try to become a better vet by getting retrained in basics. This vet is the most expensive vet in the area that I have come in contact with. They charge for absolutely everything, including if you want to pick up a paper prescription so you can fill it for cheaper at a different pet pharmacy. Then come to find out the prescription she wrote for my dog couldn't be filled anywhere else because of the high dose she wrote, and she was not willing to change the medication and even after I agree to pick it up from their pharmacy, she told me the $12 I paid to pick up the paper script would not be applied to the $130 for the prescription. It seems like they care more about the money than the actual pet. I will not be returning and wish I could get my $550 back for my one vaccination visit with bloodwork. read more

Haven't been a client since 2/2018. Today I got an email saying my review had reached over 1,000 views which obviously brought back the memories & disrespect I got when I WAS a client there. Attached is my original review along with the response from the owner, which I assume is Dr. Stephanie. They were literally trying to extort/blackmail me into deleting my negative review or else they wouldn't give my dog her flea & heartworm medication. Didn't even get a phone call, email, letter, nothing letting me know they were too butthurt about my review and took all 3 of my dogs out of their system. If you're thinking about taking any of your pets here, please take some time & go check out all the Google reviews and more importantly the responses from the owner. The only pet I would suggest bringing in to that facility is your least favorite pet rock. They take the time to look up your information in their system so they can turn everything around on you and make you seem like the incompetent pet owner. I highly recommend Meadowlawn or quite frankly, ANYONE other than this s**t hole. I can't wait until they get closed down for good! read more

Terrible service, they wouldn't even allow me to pick up my dogs' records because they didn't like my last review of their abusive service to my pets. OVERPRICED- go to meadowlawn in market commons. Here I paid 1200$ for a pre visit and spay. Also she put my dog on apoquel for no reason, she needed flea and tick. Apoquel is extremely expensive and dogs should not be on for a long period of time- but she claimed she had "allergies" they're a joke, go look on ANY WEBSITE, including Nextdoor awful vet (STEPHANIE), awful service. They only have 1.7 stars on here, so check your sources- I've not met a single person who has used this vet with a good opinion of them. We were warned by friends not to use them before we went but didn't have issues until recently. They have NO BBB accreditation. read more

It has been years since I originally posted my first review and wouldn't take our small animals anywhere else. We even uses there boarding facilities without worry. Dr Stephanie is the best. After laying with Spike all night due to a leg injury, loss of appetite, loss of weight, lack of rest I chose to go to this dr who is open on the weekends. After the receptionist greeting us at the door and the tech playing with him and giving him treats to get on the scale. This doctor came into the picture. The doctor seemed irritable and impatient. Cutting me off when asking me a question about his recent visit to a vet that I do go to but is not open on the weekends. With Spike in a muzzle, choke collar, his collar, and a retention leash. The doctor went behind him for a temp, tech on left. They both started to rub spike all over. Maybe for distraction. The doctor then stopped trying to take his temperature. Grabbed spike up by the neck and his injured arm and through him to the floor. Stating " he was gonna show him who was boss"! After holding spike down who was already submissive, injured, muzzled I screamed for him to get off my dog. His response was that I need to discipline my dog. I asked him if he had something against pit bulls and he said yes and that pit bull breeds kill kids! I said give me my dog I'm taking my dog and leaving! Went to reception and paid. If You care for your pet - DO NOT take them here. We unfortunately have been customers/patients of The Pet Doctor for several years. They were not our first choice nor were they our favorite - but they did offer convenience and they accepted one way of payment that we already had. Being pit bull owners, we are always careful to explain any "quirks" that our boys have. One such "quirk" was that our oldest & largest pittie, Bane, tended to be male aggressive while on a leash. We mentioned it EVERY time we would make the appointment - and asked to have it entered his file. But none the less, every time we would take him for a visit - a male attendant/orderly/Tech would come into the room to assist or to lead him back to a procedure. Each time, Bane would be resistant & his scruff would rise and we would have to calm him down and once, we were scheduled with a male vet & bane was not happy - for him to be examined, I personally had to hold him and keep him calm - totally unnecessary wastes of time had they just paid attention to our advice. Recently, Bane passed at no fault of anyone, and we decided to adopt another pit mix. Enter Benny. He was a terrier/pit mix, 6 months old and in for a neutering. We were going to switch to a different vet but were under time restraints due to a contract we had with the adoption place, so we made the appointment with the Pet Doctor. When I dropped him off, he was jumping around, trying to say hi to everyone, running back and forth - just the picture of life and energy. That was at 8am - by 1:30pm, our beautiful boy was gone. According to the vet, he did well going under, he did well in surgery even though they had to go into his abdomen to find one of his testicles, but as they were bringing him out of anesthesia, he coded - they did CPR & such but to no avail. We arrived at the Pet Doctor to say our goodbyes & to make final arrangements - only to see our poor baby still in a cage, tongue hanging out - just looking like he was in serious distress as he passed. They had to search to find the leash we brought with him and nothing was mentioned for "after-life" services - much unlike the emergency vet we had to take Bane to, who offered us numerous "remains "options, paw print castings and other memorial services - Pet Doctor would not have even mentioned any of these had we not brought it up. As we go to make these arrangements, we are informed that we had to pay $560 for extra services that happened due to his "life saving measures", after paying around $200 previously to cover the neutering. After questioning why the extra cost - and after a change in people I was speaking with, probably because it was obvious that I was getting more angry than sad, for what appeared to be only so they could say I was being a "ist" type of person - we were informed that there was nothing they could(i.e. would) - other than to show me the form they filled out (i.e. through quick, confusing questions asked) when I dropped Benny off. Now I am not trying to be petty, but being as I brought a healthy, lively animal into the Pet Doctor and left with a leash and collar - I felt that paying for the "life saving measures" and the micro-chipping should have been discounted or even not charged - but they refused any discounting - referring to the "paper I signed" - even though none of the questions were explained even though I stated I didn't understand what they were asking me about. Now to be fair - the remains were placed into a genuinely nice container - very similar to the one we have for Bane, and his paw-print is nicely done and painted. Thank you very much to Good Shepherd Pet Services for such a wonderful job after such a traumatic event. Also, when we picked up the remains, we were taken care of very quickly and all the records we requested for our pets were given to us. People! Read all of these reviews! They couldn't get a 2 star rating average if they cheated. They are truly incompetent and awful. The "vet" there tried to tell me my 6 month old kitten was "definitely" 2-3 years old when we saw the litter. Then they went through the services to be provided and after I agreed they added an additional $100 at the counter. The staff was rude and when I asked for management, I got the same ignorant "vet". There's been alot of negative social media talk lately about The Pet Doctor in Myrtle Beach and Conway. I'm not here to argue I just wanted to give my perspective as a lifelong dog owner who has had experiences with many Veterinarians and boarding facilities.  Based on my experience I consider The Pet Doctor, Dr. Stephanie and her staff to be one of the best.  I have a 6 year old 9 lb. Morkie and a 3 year old 65 lb. Lab/Coonhound and they have been going to Pet Doctor in Conway for daycare, boarding, grooming as well as veterinary care for 3 years.  Oliver has been going since he was a puppy.  Aside from their routine checkups, Dr. Stephanie has neutered Oliver and tended to him after he ate part of a towel as a puppy. Never did I experience anything but superior care.  Both my dogs are very social and energetic.  They know where we're going once we turn off 501 and they can't wait until we stop and they get to get out of the car and go inside.  And finally when my senior Golden Retriever started going there at 15 years old for daycare/boarding, vet care and grooming  she was treated, gently and compassionately.  She loved it there.  And when the time had come at 18 1/2 years old to say goodbye to our little Banana who was now blind, deaf, in pain and a shadow of her senior self, it was the staff at both Conway and Myrtle Beach who took great care to make an unbearable situation as comforting as possible. My daughter, myself and Banana were all treated with tremendous compassion. I will continue to bring my dogs there because I know they are in good hands. read more

I made an appointment at the Pet Doctor to get my chihuahua some vaccinations that he needed. It looked like a nice facility from outside its front doors. The receptionist quickly requested my credit card for a deposit of $50 when she created the appointment which would be used towards the cost of the two vaccinations my dog needed. Approximately 2 days later I cancelled my appointment after reading multiple negative reviews about the Pet Doctor and its employees' treatment towards customers and animals online. I noticed on my bank account that the Pet Doctor had removed $50 from my account multiple days before the appointment was supposed to occur. Of course, I asked for my money back only to discover it was non-refundable... even though the appointment hadn't even occurred yet. I was both stunned and disappointed at the same time. I made an appointment at another vet who did not ask me for a non-refundable deposit the moment I spoke to the receptionist on my first visit. My dog received excellent treatment and received his two vaccinations from the doctor without being abused or neglected by the vet because he is a chihuahua. I think everyone should carefully read all of the negative reviews about the Pet Doctor before they make an appointment there. Not to prevent paying a $50 non-refundable deposit before their pet's appointment but in order to make sure they are getting their pets the best care because clearly the Pet Doctor doesn't provide the best care to pets or the best service to their owners. So, we've been coming here literally for years. First with our Lab, Boner, and then with our Rotty named Zeke. We have had nothing but great care from Dr. Stephanie and her crew. Yesterday was especially hard for our family as we put Zeke to sleep due to the fact he developed cancer and it spread incredibly fast. We were treated like family with care and compassion. On 03/21/21, while picking Izzy up from boarding, Dr Fotorny walked into the front office where we were paying our bill and never spoke or acknowledged us, she was rude. Like many other reviewers, I would give this place no stars if I could! The owner and lead vet at this place is absolutely AWFUL. The lack of respect she has for others is laughable. She carries herself as if she is better than everyone around her and the minute you question or disagree with her, she gets downright nasty. And she doesn't do this just to her PAYING customer, but to her staff as well. I have witnessed her (multiple times, may I add) disrespect her staff. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE!! We had taken our dog Buddy to the Pet Doctor since we move here in 2016 ,only took him here because to get into Doggie Daycare was told he needed to be a patient of The Pet Doctor. Thru the years of going to DR Fotorny, She kept pushing for Buddy to get his teeth cleaned to the tune of $1200.00, We kept saying no and she kept pushing! In August 2020 we dropped Buddy of to Doggie Daycare for a short vacation, He was fine and healthly when he went in, brought him home and the next morning I had sticky urine and Diarrhea all over the house! Called Doggie Day an asked if this was happening to him while he was there, they said no! After 3 days I took him do the VET right down the street, they said he was DIABETIC! They put him on Novuline insulin for humans! Which worked, but since we had been a patient of the Pet Doctor we took him back there for a followup. OK now we have to take him once a week for blood glucose monitering (26.00) per visit and even though you have an appointment you will wait a good 45 minutes to over an hour! If you don't want to wait that long they will charge you a $25.00 cancellation fee. I met a couple of different Vets while this was going on, very nice very helpful unlike Fotorny, however the next time I went back and wanted to see the previous Vet they were no longer there! Guess they didn't like her money grubbing motives! Next from Fortorny it was we have to change his food. Her food she sells is very expensive,asked what was required for a diabetic dog food. I got the info and researched all the different dog foods on the market. Found one Buddy really liked and seem to be doing fine on. Took him after 2 weeks on the new food, she said oh now blood glucose is at 292 up his insulin..Every week it was up his insulin, finally she said we need to change his insulin to VETSULIN (65.00) a vial which last about 3 weeks. Then it was he could have CUSHINGS DIESEASE) another $200.00) (wasn't that) and more blood work another (100.00). Then it was we have to change his food to what she sells which is Royal Kanin $40.00 for a 7 pound bag, which Buddy hated! So after a full year of watching my dog being miserable came home from running errands he didn't get of the couch and barely wagged his tail, I new they where not helping him and could not get him regulated. Made an appointment to have him put to sleep. These unfeeling people made us wait in the room with Buddy for an hour! What were they thinking we would change our minds so they could suck more money out of us! I just hope our Buddy went peacefully! And wasn't sold to someone, which I wouldn't put past her! read more

I'm really disappointed with this business. The facility is fine, the vet techs are fine, parking is adequate but they are not forthcoming with costs. If you don't use their online pharmacy, you are hassled and charged extra. It's unfortunate that profit is more important than my dog's health. After telling me several times I'd get a phone call explaining biopsy results I was then told I'd have to wait to come in to go over the results and the Dr's policy was to not discuss results over the phone. So instead of saying "no problems on the biopsy so don't worry" or "yes there are problems we need to discuss" they'd rather keep you in suspense for a month about the health of you dog. I spent over $1000 in the last couple weeks and think it's not too much to ask to put our mind at ease or prepare for treatments. They finally emailed me the results and told me I could "make my own analysis". Your 1 1/2 stars on 26 reviews speaks for itself. You don't set the bar very high. read more

Never bring your animals here. My family had a 7 month old kitten. Our kitten was having trouble pooping and was experiencing extreme pain. The man doctor made us believe that he would all get better by changing his diet and giving him B-12. However, our kitten was still not feeling good, so my brother decided to call them and ask what else could we do. And they told us that our kitten was going to pass away due to B-12 being too much for him which caused him to have a heart attack. read more

My wife and I are completely dissatisfied with our latest experience with The Pet Doctor Doggie Daycare, we boarded our 2 dogs Forrest and Kidd for 4 days. Kidd's bed was completely soaked with water when I picked him up..there for 4 days and no idea if he slept in the wet bed for how long???? Took me after coming home from vacation spending hours cleaning their beds.. Ask them to trim their nails (have pics) horrible I'm taking them to a groomer tomorrow to fix that. And they are acting completely different.. haven't moved from their beds or lying on the floor since we got home.. absolutely no energy... as if they gave them something.. ok and I have a high energy Border Collie and Higher Energy GSP. They follow me everywhere and they have not moved since I've been home. They are used to the outdoors. I have 2 and 1/2 acres fenced so they are used to being outside Just spend $550.00 on vet bills to update their immunization and $273.00 to board plus nail trim And the Veterinarian Dr Stephanie that happen to be there couldn't even say as much as Hello or Thank you They treat us like we owe them for taking care of our dogs We pay them!!! Despite having the best prices in the area, and a talented vet, they have ZERO customer service. I have been taking my English bulldog here since she was 8 weeks old, now at a yr and a half I'm switching vets. My dog loves the people and the vet did a great job on my dogs spay and nose surgery (she no longer snores) but there is ZERO customer service. 2 separate occasions have forced me to this conclusion. 1) my dog had an ear infection and was put on medication for 3 weeks. I was shorted a week of medication, when I went back expecting to get more I was again charged $50, and they said this was normal that people have to come back and get more. I was NEVER told I would run out and have to come pay for more. The lady at the front desk Kim, was very rude with me. 2) Today I went in for a 2 week check up after my dog had an UTI. 2 weeks ago February 8 when she was diagnosed I was improperly charged. They forgot to charge me for a urine analysis. When I arrived today February 22, I was told I owed $30. Kim, the lady at the front desk, again was rude to me and blamed others that I wasn't already contacted about this issue. Once again I was left in the dark, no one said a word to me before this point. NO COMMUNICATION. When I talked to the vet about this hoping they would at least give me some % off of this addition charge I was treated very rudely. I was told a "service was provided". As someone who works retail and in the food industry I said "I provide services to people. If I make a mistake it's my fault. I cannot expect the customer to come back and pay for my mistake, none the less 2 weeks later" I was disrespected again, talked down to, and had to pay the $30 fee for the 2 weeks earlier. Not only was the vet rude and completely unwilling to hear my side she brought up her own personal issues, again being extremely unprofessional. When I asked why I wasn't contacted prior about this issue (maybe like the day after the 1st appointment) I was ignored. I was disrespected and talked down to, though I'm a working, educated adult I was treated as a child. I'm may be half the age of these people, but I know better than to talk to my customers this way. Regardless of the service be it medical, food, clothing, or pumping gas. If you make a mistake it is NOT the responsibility of the customer to pay after the fact. I hope this company evaluates some of their employees, and provides better customer service in the future. I sadly will not be returning. read more

Well, I have moved to Myrtle Beach from Illinois recently, needed an appointment for minor surgery to my dog, saw the facility passing by, looking nice I did stop to make an appointment. Nice receptionist was quick to request deposit of $50 with an appointment which will be used towards the cost of procedure. Returned for an appointment two weeks later. After short review of our dog's vaccination papers, I was told his vaccination records cannot be accepted because there is no doctors name on each record of vaccinations. I was stunned I never had this problem before or immediately after at different location. Decided to go for the service else were and.... of course the deposit was... non-refundable. Daughter who made an appointment for her dog at the pet doctor in the meantime of course with the deposit knowing what my experience was decided to cancel it as well and even though she cancelled an appointment two days ahead of time she was of course told the deposit is non-refundable. I suggest to everybody to think twice before you make an appointment for any service at the pet doctor. I do not believe they deserve any trust from any of us customers. I will never even stop at this location again. read more

Waited an hour and twenty minutes after appointment time and finally left without being seen. No one said what was going on, apologized etc. When I called later to get a copy of my records, they asked if we were going elsewhere. When I said yes, they still didn't apologize or try to resolve the issue. Poor customer service. read more

I cannot understand the negative reviews. Dr. Stephanie has been courteous, friendly and thorough in our dealings with both her vet services and the boarding facility. We love her, and so does Ralphie. As for expensive, perhaps, but you get what you pay for. read more

The Pet Doctor - Her first visit there. She was very excited. - Veterinarians Near Me - Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

I have been taking my two dogs here for the past 2 years. After adding two additions to our family, we made their first appointment, which we paid the $50 deposit per pet to start them as "new" clients. Two days later and 17 days prior to the scheduled appointment I called to change the appointment to a different day, where I was told that as I new client I could not change the appointment without paying another $50 per pet. On two separate occasions, they have called to change my appointments twice due to being overbooked and I never complained or asked for reduced price for inconvenience. The staff was very rude when I asked why I had to pay another $100 fee, so I decided to go in and request all of my pets records to switch veterinary care. With this, I was promptly given papers for 3 of my pets, and 1 pet history from another dog. When I asked for the correct records the front desk worker argued and said that was what I gave her when the appointment was scheduled so that is what she was giving back. I had to point out that not only was the paper work for a different color dog, but different breed, and age as well. Very disappointed in the treatment I received from the staff, lack of organization, and greed. I will never be taking my pets back, and do not recommend their services. read more

Dr. Stephanie the owner and lead vet there is rude, and has low class the way she treated my family and our family dog... my family adopted a military dog and spent thousands of dollars at the pet doctor only to end up being treated like garbage by Stephanie who is only in it for the money and does not care about the animals ... she was mad my family had enough of her rude behavior and she became even more spiteful by declining a last final prescription to help our dog... while our dog was waiting in the car with family ... she should realize we wouldn't have left this vet to begin with if she was actually a kind and good vet but she is very unprofessional and I'm not going to write a huge story of all the times she was rude to my family... but her denying the final prescription shows how bitter she is and that she has chosen the wrong career since she cares more about herself than the safety of animals... especially an animal that has served this country in the military and deserves respect !!! that was the final straw that brought me here to leave a bad review because she had to do one last spiteful thing which shows she really has no compassion for animals by declining a prescription just because we said we are going to a different vet.. mind you the front desk told us to come in for the prescription but Stephanie who has mood swings apparently didn't feel like honoring it .. so we are taking out business elsewhere.. our dogs and family do not deserve that treatment from Stephanie .. she should quit being a vet if she doesn't care about animals .. disgusting behavior ... bring your pets somewhere else read more
