Up until recently, I would never have considered boarding one of my dogs. This all changed when I met Bertha from KampK9 Hawaii. We met at a dog training class. She had with her two of her lovely little pups. My friend Daniel, the instructor of the class, whom I greatly respect and trust, later told me that KampK9 is the only place he boards his own dog. Fast forward to a few weeks ago. My gf and I were going a trip and she needed someone to watch her dog Mozzie. We decided to try KampK9 and are extremely happy we did. Bertha and her husband truly care about dogs, as is partially evidenced by the thorough question she requires Kampers to complete. Bertha provided further proof of her concern and commitment to the dog's well being when she required that she meet Mozzie to make sure Mozzie was comfortable with her and her dog Julius. After we dropped Mozzie off, Bertha sent daily (sometimes more often) updates including photos and video. She also posted videos and pics on social media. It was clear from the texts and videos that Mozzie had an absolute blast with KampK9. KampK9 offered her a veritable Toys R Us of dog toys with which to play. More importantly, Mozzie played all day with Bertha's dog Julius along with another similarly sized Kamper Kevin. Watching the videos reassured us that Mozzie was in great hands at KampK9. My wife and I had to go out of town for awhile, and Kamp K9 was recommended to us for boarding our two boxers. We met with them prior to setting up their stay and were impressed and relieved by the professionalism and care they put into their work. We immediately set dates up with them and ensured the required paperwork was done. During our pups stay, we received constant updates via text. Through their Facebook page we were able to see them through pictures posted daily. All in all the communication was better than we could have expected. Before I give a review, I would like to share a little history of my PITBULL name Max. He's a XL pit that is very sweet dog, he's been exposed to many of other dogs and goes to the doggie park three times a week. He plays nicely every time we go to the park. He's very submissive, and all around a happy dog. He has been to a dog sitter before and never had a problem. The last sitter had nothing but great reviews of Max, even to the point she wanted to put in a dog show, she believed that he would be a great fit for! Here's what I can't grasp about all this. My 17 month old Pitbull boarded at Kamp K9 HI LLC, from June 29-July 2nd. (2 1/2 days), booked and paid for from June 29th to July 8th (9 nights). Everything was going fine, a picture text message was sent to us everyday on his well being, up until the July 2nd, we received a long text message saying that Max had been barking all day and night, teething at other dogs, playing rough with them, pooping on their bed (which i can't imagine, he has never done that). They were finding all the excuses possible, THEN! At the end of the text she says "unfortunately I think we need Max to be picked up". Then she states "I just don't think he wants to be here anymore" ummm... REALLY?!?! It's your business, this is what we are paying you for, your services! Could u imagine what the hell was going through our minds?!?! We're in California for crying out loud! What do they except us to do?! We had planned this trip 8 months prior, a lot of money has been paid for this trip! We booked with kamp k9 in Jan 2017. That 5 month prior to our departure. An assessment test was done on Max prior to his stay and all these other requirements that was needed. We felt great about all this. Their ducks were in a roll and by the books. So much so that I felt a little uncomfortable, but desperate to find a sitter. We should have done more research, that was our bad. Words can't express how disappointed I am. I'm sadden that this had to result in my Pitbull leaving. We trusted and believed that Kamp K9 would be able handle any situations at hand, given that they have been doing this for a very long time, being equipped with necessary equipment! Think of something. Be creative, not just quit! Having a business like this, and when situations arise you should be able to solve the issues. You can't just quit when situations gets tough. These families are counting on you, and not having to call them on their vacation and having to worry about their pets, or what if they're on deployment? What are you going to do when they can't be picked up?! What about the families that are on deployment, would you seriously put that burden on them while they're overseas with no family members in Hawaii. I don't think Kamp K9 has the ability do what they say they're capable of doing! They say they're dog lovers, but willing to kick my dog out with no where to go, while we are thousands of miles away! I don't feel that they are not qualified enough to run a business. They claim they have saint Barnards, and they can't handle a Pitbull? Come on, now! Find a way to help him! Find what his wants and need are... And that's why you guys decided to do business. Whatever their reasoning is, so be it, but we're defiantly won't be recommending any of our friends to kamp K9. We actually had a few friends looking into having their pet stay there because they saw Max having a blast. Now that he was sent home, I'm sure my friends won't be comfortable having to worry that their animal be kicked out and no place to go! I give a -10! read more

My fur baby, IS my baby. It's just me and him, he is everything to me! So taking vacations are nerve wracking when looking for a pup sitter. Luckily, there's Kamp K9 Hawaii. Mark and Bertha too excellent care of my two French Bulldogs (George and Fred) while I was away for almost 2 weeks. I am a crazy dog mom who called everyone around the state to find the best place for them to be while I'm gone. Bertha took the time to speak with me over the phone and could not have been nicer. With my bold request (and slight separation anxiety) she sent me daily updates as to what the boys did that day, as well as photos! Her home and hard are clean and leave plenty of room for the pups to play. Like any food dog boarding service Kamp K9 asked for a evaluation before your pups stay, this was super easy and her observation only lasted an hour. So many places rip you off by telling you it's necessary for the dog to be evaluated an entire day. Bertha offers lots of discounts, and for the kind of amazing service she provides it's more than the best bang for your buck. (Oh and I forgot to mention, Kamp K9 Hawaii is COMPLETELY cage free. I had had so much anxiety before dropping the boys off before my trip, and when the time came to me to hand them over I felt so shockingly secure with everything. I was preparing myself to be a mess but when I left all of that totally went away. Thank you Bertha! This is the best gift you couldn't haven't given a worrier mom like me! When I picked the boys up they looked AMAZING! So clean and happy! I will be coming back to her for sure! There is nothing like the piece of mind that comes from knowing your "fur-children" are safe and sound and getting you provide for them. Lastly, we got sent home with the cutest little goody baskets, I was shocked with how nice of a "thank you it was! We took our pup here to get a wash/groom. From the moment we walked in, we knew she was safe and in good hands! She quickly checked out her surroundings and looked for some dogs to play with. Sophie came out and Nalu had a blast with her. Mark and Bertha took great care of Nalu and I couldn't believe how good she looked when we picked her up. And she has never smelled so good! I don't really recall how I came across Kamp K9 but it was nearly 3 years ago when looking for a place for my puppy to stay for a weekend. My puppy was 8 weeks old when I first contacted Bertha and toured her home. The communications started through Facebook and continued there. I feel Bertha and her husband like to keep things streamlined and professional which I greatly respect. Once your dog's temperament has been checked and all is good to go, communications will begin via phone and texts. And, once your dog's stay comes up, you begin to receive photo texts and videos. Bertha also does an awesome job of posting videos and updates of her entire crew on Facebook and Instagram - it's really fun to keep up across all platforms. I am a total skeptic about leaving my dog ANYWHERE and with ANYONE but my little fluff always comes home exhausted from all the fun and freaks out (sheer excitement) when he even hears Bertha's voice or name. I have always been so skeptical about leaving my animals with anyone. Kamp K9 completely has made me feel at ease. I just picked my shih tzu up from her 3rd stay. (The first was just to make sure she would be ok while we were still on island--that's how nervous we were!) They send text updates and pictures as well as updating Facebook and Instagram. If there was a 10-star rating, Kamp K9 would definitely deserve it! I cannot say enough good things about their boarding and grooming. We have used them about 7-8 times in the last 14 months and several of our dog's stays have been for extended periods of time (5-6 weeks). Our dog absolutely loves it at their home--much so that she probably never wants to leave! The scheduling is always a breeze and the daily Facebook messages and video updates are just awesome! There is never any doubt that our dog is having the time of her life. Bertha is so accommodating and clearly cares about dogs and their wellbeing. They are very strict about any aggressive behaviors and we truly appreciate that, for the safety of all the dogs! Mark does a great job with the grooming. Our dog doesn't get haircuts, but she sheds horribly, which makes grooming very difficult. However, she has always returned from Kamp K9 looking and smelling wonderful! They offer a complimentary bath for the Kampers, but we always upgrade to their full grooming package and have never been disappointed! Being in the military, we have had to board our dog in many different locations (Florida, Utah, Korea, Hawaii) and Kamp K9 is hands down the best experience we have ever had! We cannot imagine having to leave our dog with anyone else. And the icing on the cake: their prices are more than reasonable!! We will be so sad when we leave the island and will no longer be able to use Kamp K9, but we will definitely take advantage of the next 3 years we have with them! read more

She was able to sleep in her own bed and play with many new friends. They kept her routine and she came home smelling great after a much needed bath and pampering. The Pet Medic - First Aid Classes Near Me

My family is scheduled to PCS in May, but my husband has been TDY in VA since February. I contacted Bertha at Kamp K9 back in October/November to discuss possible options for my pups in place of kenneling them b/c it could possibly be 2-3 months (We have a newborn baby and wanted to spend the time with him in VA before our move to Japan in May). She was wonderful on the phone, even when I explained that my Lab was somewhat neurotic, and gets anxious during change. She assured me that she handled all types of animals, and as long as he did not display any of the behaviors mentioned (aggression, destructive, barking, etc) they could accommodate him. She even told me that they could help (free of charge!) with PCS, and that they could transport our dogs to the airline for us for shipping to Japan if we were unable to fly back through Hawaii first. We spoke for over 45 minutes about the set-up, and I was completely put at ease about leaving them for so long, and made plans to join my husband in VA. I set up a weekend stay-cation for them at Kamp K-9 so they could start getting used to the house in January, and was immediately turned off. Not only was Bertha not very friendly at our arrival, we walked into a house lined with giant dog cages around the ENTIRE living room, most of which included very large breed dogs. It was extremely loud as they were all barking/whining when we walked in, and very off putting for us. When I asked how many were hers, she informed me at that point that TEN of the dogs belonged to them. I'm not sure how many other dogs they mentioned were staying, but at least 2 or 3 in addition to our 2 were there at the time. (My husband and I did a little research after this ordeal and found that 10 dogs is the max for any household to have - maybe they have some special license for more than that???) My lab was of course very anxious, and began doing laps around the room, going to the different cages. One of their St. Barnards growled badly at him on several occasions, and we were informed to not to worry about him - he was only being aggressive because he had a bone. Before we left, our lab would settle for a few min, then get up and circle the room again, but was not displaying any aggressive or destructive behaviors. Knowing it takes him a little while to calm down, particularly in new situations (as I had explained to her at length previously), I suggested that we leave, and they call us if they had any problems. We were only back at our house for 5 min (we live less than 10 min away) and her husband called to ask me to come pick up the dogs b/c the lab would not settle down. When I asked what he was doing, I was just told he was really anxious, and would settle for a few minutes, but get up as soon as one of them stood up to do something. We of course picked them right up, but Bertha did nothing but send me an email the next day explaining that she "tried everything" to get him to calm down (gave him treats and lit lavender?) and that she did not want him to be miserable. She said she can tell in less than an hour if a dog will be a "good fit" for them, and she could tell our lab wouldn't right away. We have since found someone else who is able to care for our dogs, and has been wonderful, but wanted to write this review as a warning to anyone relying on this "kennel" for the first time for any important stay. I was so glad that I booked that weekend to test them out, even though Bertha informed me when I talked to her in October that it wouldn't really be necessary, as she could certainly accommodate our dogs. I could understand if my dogs were doing any of the behaviors listed on their webpage as "disqualifying" behaviors, because they were very clear about what was acceptable or not. But he was just an anxious dog that needed more than an hour to get comfortable in a new setting (which I had previously explained to her in detail), and was instantly sent back. I can't imagine if we had waited until our TDY/PCS to drop them off, and then had to scramble to find an alternative last minute. Maybe they are good for any animals who don't need the extra TLC, but then, isn't that the point of an in-home service instead of a kennel? If I could give them no stars I would. Kamp k9 Hawaii is the ONLY place to take your dog for boarding or grooming. Seriously, you won't find a better business with more caring owners. We take our Saint Bernard there for grooming-- somehow other groomers on island have no clue how to deal with our giant breed-- not them! They have several giant breeds of their own. Since we travel a lot, we have had to put our Golden Retriever in many kennels from New York, Washington, and Hawaii and this is the first time I haven't felt guilty! This place is awesome! If you send your dog anywhere else while you are on vacation then you are making a huge mistake! I think one of the best part to your dog's stay is every couple of days they send you text messages with photos of your dog playing with other dogs giving you sure piece of mind. I do warn you that they are strict on dogs with behavioral/aggressive behavior, which is probably a good thing anyways! The prices are more then reasonable. While you are spoiling yourself on your vacation they spoil your dog on theirs. Plenty of treats, attention, play time, and couch time (Couch time is dependent on your discretion, if you tell them No, then they will not teach your dog a bad habit). The business is run out of their home. Dogs are supervised by the husband and wife while outdoors at all times. The dogs are separated during feedings. They seem to get plenty of attention from the husband and wife so it avoid any big changes for the dog. read more

I am VERY picky when it comes to leaving my pet in someone else's care...they don't go to just anyone. I also have some education in vet tech, and because of this health requirements are very important to me. Boarding facilities SHOULD AND MUST require certain vaccinations and preventatives to ensure all boarding pets are safe and healthy. In short, my list of MUST HAVES is long, and Kamp K9 met EVERYTHING on my list. My dog is a rescue, so it was important to me that he NOT be kenneled. Bertha and her husband made sure my pup felt like he was at home. He got to sleep on the sofa and their bed, I mean, just WOW!!!!! I received updates and photos everyday while I was away which i simply loved. When we came to pick up our dog, he left with his favorite toy Kamp K9 had purchased, and a doggy bone Lei. You could tell they loved my dog, and my dog loved them, and his stay was them was truly A+!
