My dog was so well treated for his stay. I would highly recommend the boarding and also the grooming.

WARNING If you love…read moreyour dog, avoid this place like the plague. PURE NEGLECT. I saw right through their fake smiles and empty reassurances. They don't provide any real report about your dog's wellbeing just generic words, "she's doing great," which was clearly unbelievably false. The kennels are worse than shelters. The condition of this place merits a free stay, not the absurd fee they charge. It's overpacked with dogs, nonstop barking, and clear signs of stress everywhere. Their so-called "privacy suite" is a flat-out lie. They do NOT follow your dog's needs. They claim each kennel has an outdoor run, They have to manually open it, so their statement that dogs can go out anytime is completely false. I told them my dog is a rescue with a history of neglect and abandonment, and I trusted them to keep her safe and supported. Instead, I picked her up in distress , injured, bleeding, and with her voice completely gone from what must have been nonstop barking and crying. EVEN THOUGH I PROVIDED THEM WITH HER SEDATIVES. She had made so much progress, and this experience set her back in every way. Blood was all over my car and the dog wash station from her injuries. It's heartbreaking and infuriating. The shelter she came from took better care of her than this place. I can't understand how businesses like this are allowed to keep operating. How do they sleep at night. Shame on you. PS: I suggest you concern yourself less with reviews and more with the wellbeing of the dogs under your care. At the very least, stop hiring low quality staff.

Time has really gotten way from me in writing this review! I lived in Airdrie from June 2015 -…read moreApril 2016. I was alone in the area for work and had only my dog, Cooper and cat, Saul. I didn't have a friend/family network in the area to help with my animals when I went out of town AND my dog Cooper was fear aggressive so it made it just that much more nerve wracking to leave him with someone. After two failed attempts at a dog sitter via a app based service (2 no shows for meet and greets!) I no longer had confidence in trusting a stranger found by an app to come into my home and car for my pets. I searched for kennels and found High Tails - LIFE CHANGING! From the first phone call to the last visit every experience was outstanding. Cooper loved it so much that when i would pick him up he would not want to get in the car. He was a different dog after his time at High Tails. It was a confidence booster for him and a relief for me. He became much less fearful even outside his stays. Saul, the cat was a little more subtle in his excitement - but he seems happy and content every time I picked him up after a stay. I believe we had about 4 stays at High Tails. One at Christmas time that I booked with less than 2 weeks notice and they were able to accommodate at the last minute. We moved back to St. Louis, Missouri about two weeks after their last stay at High Tails and I can say I was genuinely sad to no longer have the option to bring my pets to this amazing facility! Don't hesitate! If you are looking for a exceptional kennel to board your pets, this is the place!

A refund does not make this right, nor does it come close to rectifying the issue. At minimum, I think your business should pay for the services of a third party groomer of my choice, until such time as we agree the problem has been remedied. Nothing less than that is acceptable. Original Posting: I booked a 'wash/blow dry; tidy/trim feet, cut nails and remove matts behind both ears' appointment for my PUREBRED Japanese Spitz dog. This was based on advice from the breeder who shows dogs on a regular basis. Also, it was my dog's first 'professional groom' and I wanted to ease her into the process gradually. My instructions were clear and my expectations were that NO trimming or cutting beyond what I'd asked for would occur. I even provided a printed guide for grooming this relatively rare breed, when I brought the dog in. Instead: 1. Groomer 'M' blatantly ignored my directions, as well as the provided guide, arbitrarily deciding to do a full generic groom. 2. She blunt-cut my dog's ruff to a short and choppy length around her face, which is totally inappropriate for the breed. Fur on her haunches was blunt cut as well. As a result: 1. My dog's breed-specific appearance has been compromised until her fur grows back. 2. I am VERY UNHAPPY with how this was handled. Even more so, having shared the enclosed before/after pictures with my breeder and other groomers/owners familiar with this breed. Their feedback included: 'This is the perfect example of WHAT NOT TO DO!', 'Looks like the work of a child unsupervised with scissors.' 'What happened to common sense?' At minimum: 1. Your groomers should listen to your customers, and 2. Obtain advance approval if they recommend doing more than an Owner requested.

Both had severe upper respiratory infection... they had been vaccinated prior to their admission...but...due to improper care they appeared to have Tracheal injury (diagnosed by a Veterinary Specialist) due to improper use of leashing technique...the little Frenchie has only ever used a harness so...probably resisted the use of a Noose around her neck when being Dragged outside to urinate (caregivers were aware of this) but their harnesses were not allowed in your facility. Injury to her trachea caused severe breathing problems and respiratory congestion. Both pups have been on antibiotics and the little Frenchie on steroids as well to help with her lung congestion..No previous history of medical problems. It has been 10 days since and will see what the final outcome is! I am truly disappointed...this facility requires caretakers that are properly trained and knowledgeable about the care they provide...our pets are a part of our Family...MY answer would be to provide individual camera footage of every animal in your care...of course I am not only concerned about my pets but others as well...Please...please do better!!!

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT! I started as a PT pet sitter as I am a HUGE pet lover,…read moreespecially of cats. There was ONE training session at a coffee shop for 1 hour. They led us to believe 50% of our earnings went to insurance to "protect us" vs. us going on it on our own. If we earned $100 for an allnight sleepover, giving meds, walking the pet 3x a day...they took half. They told us it was for "insurance". Turns out it was insurance for THEM. The company owner. NOT US, the pet sitters .As a first time pet sitter for several dogs, I TRUSTED WHILE AWAY to let me pet sit dogs THAT WERE SAFE. i took the assignment they gave me..brand new pet sitter I was...and it turned out the dog had a shock collar, it was so violent. It had a history of attacking smaller dogs and a record with the City. No one told me that. I took the 2 dogs for a walk.. both over 70lbs...and ended up breaking my foot in 3 places after it/they went after a smaller dog, as they had in the past. I was off work for 2 months. I lost over $3000 in pay. The owner said I was at fault for not wearing proper footwear. This company should go out of business. That small dog and dog owner they chased were also traumatized. Horrible experience. I will NEVER pet sit again after this experience. I had to stop 2 dogs from killing a small dog in front of my eyes because of the lack of screening from this business owner.

Probably the most infuriating thing you can hear as a customer is "sorry it's company policy."…read more This statement isn't productive. It doesn't find a solution to the problem. It's a blanket statement that employees hide behind because they're not empowered to be able to make a decision for themselves that might actually be in the best interest of the company they work for. On Friday, November 10th I got an email from Dogtopia saying that a couple of my dog's vaccinations were expiring and needed to be updated. No big deal I thought, we already had a vet appointment for the 18th for her annual check-up. My wife called Dogtopia today (the 13th) to verify if we could continue to bring Pickles in for daycare knowing that we had her booked to get her shots. The employee that answered the phone said she would be fine with it, but she doesn't make the rules and would have to talk to the manager (Sheena). It was a flat out no from Sheena. My wife couldn't believe it and called me. I work close by so I thought I would leave work early and go in person and talk to Sheena to see what the issue was. She explained to me that it's "company policy" that dogs cannot continue to come for daycare when their vaccinations aren't current. I can completely understand this. A policy like this should exist. As responsible pet owners we want to know that the place we're taking our pets is reasonably safe. The failure here is a lack of customer service. If they have a system that tells when a dog's vaccinations are expiring, where's the notice? The email was sent on the day of expiration, not a week or two before with a note saying "You can't bring Pickles in after the 10th unless her shots are up to date, just an FYI". Because it's an immediate cutoff this then brings up the issue of losing the convenience of Dogtopia's services. My wife and I plan our lives knowing that we can drop off our pup for a day of play and she'll be pooped out and we don't have to worry about going out at night on that odd weekday where we make plans and won't be home. We had planned to bring her tomorrow because we were going to a concert in the evening. Not a normal Tuesday night, but we don't want to rush home, feed the dog, and then leave again as we don't think it's fair to our dog to be alone all day, to then be alone all night too. We could have made other plans. The really infuriating things about all of this is that we're talking about Dogtopia here. This isn't Walmart or some other big box store where I'm I'm just some one-off random customer. My wife and I have been coming here for almost two years, we came over from Superdogs. We've never had any issues, never a complaint, nothing but a great experience up until now. We bring our dog here at least once a week, spent thousands on daycare, it's just mind boggling. I asked Sheena "Is your policy so strict that you're willing to lose a loyal customer because of one week?" She said "yes". I told her to remove Pickles from their system and walked out. 15-20 minutes later I got an email from Sheena saying they don't want to lose Pickles but she can't return until she is "up to date on all vaccinations...as stated in the client agreement signed as per our policy." What I love about this email is that Sheena offers to extend the time frame to use up Pickles' remaining day of daycare in the package we purchased. Dogtopia's POLICY is that you must use up your full package within a month of purchase. So apparently some policies can be changed as they feel necessary, but not the ones that would actually keep a customer.

I enjoy that they provide access to webcams to see our dog and report cards about how our dog does…read moreduring boarding. They are also typically quick to respond which I appreciate. My partner and I were recently checking the webcams during our dog's stay and noticed that several dogs were releasing their bowels right in the playroom. We called to inquire as we originally had our dog booked to board there for 7 days. Dogtopia Downtown does not walk the dogs unless requested by the owner. If we did not check this, our dog would not have gotten outside for 7 days. This also means that for several days (before realizing the above), our dog was going from the playroom (where she was expected to use the washroom) to a crate and back again. Please be aware that your dog is not being walked unless asked for. If this was made aware upon arranging our dogs stay or on their website I would be okay with that, however they do not. I just want potential or existing clients to know that their dog is not being walked and they have to release their bowels right in the playroom. Also, if they are expecting their employees to clean up dog pee and poo all day, I hope they are making more than minimum wage. On top of this, when our dog was picked up early (we had a family member pick her up after 5 days due to the above reason), they had used all the food we sent for her despite sending enough food for approximately 2 weeks. We sent 2 1/2 large cans of wet food and approximately 30% of a large bag of dry food. Unity tried to explain that they used it all for her. Our dog takes 1 1/2 cups per meal with 2 table spoons of wet food mixed in it. Do not send extra food if you send your pet here but I cannot recommend enough that you find another dog care or boarding facility. It had been an all around disappointing experience to put it lightly. I asked to speak to the manager and Unity told me that the district manager would not call me back to discuss the matter at hand. When pressing Unity about why the manager wouldn't take my concerns directly, she hung up on me. TAKE YOUR DOG ELSE WHERE. Update: On Facebook, they said I was slandering them, despite posting the same review and on Instagram, they blocked me. This is a major red flag to anyone who is considering them. This is how they deal with concerned clients. I've let everyone I know who has a dog, know about my experience. Dogtopia Downtown removes my review because it is not a five star review.
