First, I want to give credit to the servers. It appeared there were only two servers working the entire restaurant, and they were hustling nonstop to keep up with the crowd. Despite being stretched thin, they remained attentive and worked as quickly as they could between tables. As for the food, I ordered the Smokehouse platter with ribs, pulled chicken, and tri-tip, along with fries as my side and an order of pickle chips for the table. Unfortunately, the meats were quite dry. I had requested that the meat come with sauce, but it was served without any. That said, there were several sauces available on the table, so I'm not sure it would have made much of a difference whether it came from the kitchen already sauced or not. The beans were decent, but nothing particularly memorable. The highlight of the meal was definitely the pickle chips--they were flavorful, crispy, and easily the best thing we ordered. Overall, the service staff did the best they could under what appeared to be challenging circumstances, but the food itself fell short of expectations. read more

While retrieving paragliders, that flew from Mount Rose all the way to Winnemucca, I stopped here to grab some food. While looking on yelp, some pictures caught my eye here. I went in and let them know that I only had a few minutes to get some to go food. They said no problem. The hostess was quite friendly. What I ordered: Cadillac margarita Potato skins Half rack of ribs à la cart It only took about 10 minutes and I can tell you the ribs are really good . The hostess that took my order asked what kind of barbecue sauce I wanted, they had quite a few choices, but I just went with plain barbecue sauce. Potato skins were really just baked potato cut into wedges and covered with cheese and bacon, but they were still good. I would order them again. I sat at the bar and ordered a Cadillac margarita. I let the bartender know that I was in a hurry and she told me that she would get to me as soon as she could ... there is no one else sitting at the bar ...she went over to the hostess stand and started talking to the hostess. The restaurant was empty. I sat in amazement. while I looked on, wondering why she made me wait. No customers, no one at the bar ... I guess as a customer you're not allowed to make any demands or want something quick lol . The bartender did have to look up how to make a Cadillac. She did a great job though. The food was great. The margarita was great just a strange little power-play from the bartender. Other than that I would definitely come back. We were driving through Winnemucca and had multiple recommendations to go to The Pig. Google said it's closed, but we learned it's just under new management. Overall, the food was great the pricing was very reasonable for bbq, and staff was kind. The wings were by far our favorite. They seemed smoked. Seemed to have a little dry rub and the hot sauce on them. The rubs were unique with a dry rub and a sauce too. The homemade ranch and fry sauce were tasty. They were generous with paper towels and moist towelettes. We sat outside because we had our dog. Outdoor seating is likely available just for this purpose. Lots of people traveling and just needing some fresh air and space for their pup. The road in front is high trafficked The indoor dining decor was pretty fun! Lots of pigs from all different places and times in history. Had a sports bar feel too. Lots of motorcyclists but there also seemed to be a motorcycle event in town this weekend. read more

We happened to arrive here just before opening and I was glad to see that there were already two or three other cars waiting for this place to open. What better sign that it will be good? I had a Western bacon barbecue burger and fries and the burger tasted good. However, it was dwarfed by the huge bun and I was left with a lot of extra bread. The fries looked bad and weren't cooked consistently, but they tasted okay and they gave us some sort of ranch that was flavored with, maybe lime or something, that was really good and I dipped them in that to be able to eat them The beans were definitely homemade and reminded me of my mom's but my husband is more used to hartier beans and didn't care for them at all. He had the smokehouse with ribs, tri-tip and pulled pork. He also got fries with that but was unimpressed with them for the same reason as I was. (See photos) The tri tip was excellent. The pulled pork on the other hand was quite bland so we fed most of that to our dog and she loved it. The ribs were a toss-up because the wet sauce that they put on top had great flavor, but the actual ribs themselves were just okay. I like the Pig. The sandwiches and salads are tasty and they stock Guinness (but for pity sake, order the nitro cans instead of the nasty bottles. Anyone who drinks the black elixir will have told you the same thing) I think their sides need serious attention. Everything seems to come out of a tub rather than scratch made on the sides. Making great beans, pasta salad, slaw etc is so easy and would make a huge difference overall. Also, just a suggestion...SCRATCH MADE MAC AND CHEESE. My partner and I stopped here for dinner on the way to Elko. I had high hopes for a memorable meal, but the food and service just didn't make the cut. The place itself had a dark, grimy, run down feel to it. There is one side of the restaurant that is a bar and the other side has tables. The decor is Nevada themed sports, western, and BBQ pictures and memorabilia. Wait staff was a bit frazzled with a large to go order and it showed when they interacted with guests. We eat at The Pig every time we go through Winnemucca and have never been disappointed. We split an order of the half and half (half a smoked chicken and half rack of ribs) and had plenty to eat (even took some home). Our meal included a large portion of pig tail fries, baked beans and Texas toast. We also got a side of coleslaw. Everything was delicious!! This is a reopening of this restaurant with new management and owners from another restaurant in town which has put many people sick. The silver peak. Don't eat there either. This restaurant was closed for several months during the transition reopening with lesser quality food than before I just ordered chicken nuggets it said after looking into it they can't call them chicken strips unless there's a certain amount of chicken. These were sponge chicken made from a liquefied chicken substance with little pockets and crumbly not stringing meat chicken. Absolutely gross. The restaurant was dirty Dusty with stains in the carpet and dirty floor. Nothing that even been dusted even in the ceiling decor or wall decor with the same cobwebs as before. Do you like crispy Buffalo wings? Do you like succulent juicy pork ribs with the meat falling off the bones? Then don't come here. Breaded chicken wings with honey flavored coating were inedible. Dried out pork meat stuck to the bones. Potato salad was ok, staff was acceptable and the cook looks exactly like Saddam Hussein, which was the hilarious high point of our experience. Place has really gone down hill- food was awful and high priced. Used to be one of my favs but not anymore. Meat (brisket) was fatty and unchewable. When you invade a place right as they open with 18 people (most HS kids) and as they open the door they already have your table ready...that's good service! Okay, we are en route from Reno to Elko for a family visit and were determined to avoid fast food if at all possible. We're almost to Winnemucca, starving for lunch, and we see a billboard for The Pig. My wife loves BBQ so we are in. Of course we hit Yelp before fully committing and there were a range of great and poor reviews - huh. Well, we stayed with the plan...The Pig it is! The place has a very sports bar vibe - not that it's NOT family friendly but there is definitely a more adult feeling like any sports bar. There were really cool decorations all over the restaurant and we liked the vibe as we walked in. While having a full bar, I went with beer and that was great. My wife had the 1/4 rack of ribs and I had the house special pulled pork sandwich. We both had ours with the honey spicy bbq sauce. While I like my spicy bbq sauce a little spicier, we both agreed it was excellent and bought a jar to bring home. The bbq on the ribs were very good, not fall off the bone great, but good. My pulled pork was excellent but I soon gave up on the roll (it was fine) just so I could focus on the pulled pork. It is a big sandwich! Our sides came with shoestring fries and beans. The fries were overly salty (and we like salty fries). I really liked the beans - I think I could taste a little cinnamon and nutmeg in them. I ate all mine and half of my wife's (she's not a bean lover). Our service was very good - they employ a team effort. The place wasn't super busy but someone was always asking if we needed anything and not in that annoying way. I am very picky about ribs. The ribs here were fabulous. I got a 1/2 rack and a side dinner salad. The ribs were very meaty and tender. They had a spicy rub and were smoked to perfection. I opted For the honey bar-b-q sauce. I could only finish 5. Aj had the hot links with beans and coleslaw. The links were tasty but not too hot. The spicy sauce added the heat. The beans were very good. They were nicely seasoned. The joint was jumping. We sat at the bar were we could see 3 TVs playing poker, baseball and softball. A few years ago my family and I went on a road trip to Idaho. On the way back from that trip we drove through Winnemucca. Someone at a gas station recomended this place and we thought we would stop and try it. I wish we would have just kept driving. We walked inside and we were seated. We should have left when we could smell the bathroom from our seats. We decided to stay becuase we were so hungry. My mom and I ordered the trip-tip salads, which where served on "a bed of fresh lettuce with vegetables". The should have said vegetable. There was one peice of onion! The croutons tasted like shredded amazon packaging and the "Tri-tip" tasted like grilled cold cuts. My sisters side salad was a bowl of wilted lettuce. When we asked for some toppings they gave here carrot sticks! Lets just say I would have rather eaten at the Auto Zone across the street. My stomach gurgled the whole way to Tahoe. The only good thing I can say about this resturant was it gave me some great material for stand up at my church's talent show. read more

Pork ribs needed work to get off the bone, okay flavor, pulled pork was super dry and lacked flavor and the tri-tip reminded me of sliced roast beef with almost a slightly fermented flavor. The beans were exceptionally delightful. They have three sauces, and without drenching the meats, not sure I could have muscled through the meal. I caught them on a Saturday in between lunch and dinner, so on my next trip I will give them another chance that perhaps I visited them on an off cycle. The BBQ is amazing! I had the cheesesteak and beans. My partner in crime had the pulled pork and fries. The beef was cooked to perfection as were the vegetables. The pulled pork was also equally good. The beans were made with the burnt ends of the brisket. All of the flavors are perfect. I would say that the category of BBQ is somewhere between Texas and Idaho (Yes, Idaho has its own style...I'm talking to you South Carolina!). The only drawback today was the French fries. They definitely don't use a smoker so that's already a bummer when it comes to a BBQ restaurant. But all of the meats were tough and tasted like meat from a fast food restaurant.
