China Garden has been take out since Covid. Being the only Chinese place in town, there isnt much choice when the craving hits. They have a few good dishes, but i mostly go there for the egg drop soup and rice. Its my favorite thing from there. There cream cheese wontons are good too, if you get them fresh. Hopefully they will go back to sit down soon ans quality will improve. Service is quick, order is taken quick and once it's ready you get it quick. Wanna say something nice about this little gem. Either new owners or operators in last few months. Meat and veggies are fresher and really delicious. It's takeout only, but a complete treat to take home or eat at the park in town. Big portions and fair value. We generally get 3-4 meals out of a small order. We especially like sesame beef (ask for extra spice), Mongolian beef or pork chow mein, all the sweet and sour stuff and the tasty little egg rolls. Middle of the road, basic Chinese served hot and fast. Prices were a bit higher than the menu shown on Yelp. Got the combo take out which was a decent amount of food for $17. Even though I requested only fried rice they gave me 50/50 rice and chow mein. I don't like noodles so that ended up being wasted. The Szechuan chicken was OK but nothing special. Really good food on top best food in this small town better then any restaurant. Food quality was amazing and portions were really good for the price. I Had noticed over the years they had changed the owners (if you guys didn't know that). They had changed the close day to Monday if you guys are wanting to come on Monday. Being from Redwood City and knowing good Chinese food, the food here was delicious and well enjoyed. It's clearly evident why it's the only Chinese food restaurant to survive Covid-19 in Winnemucca. Terrible customer service. Tasty food. Politely Inquired about MSG, and whether the breaded tofu was breaded with rice flour or wheat flour. Proprietor became very obviously annoyed, and unwilling to answer queries. Literally waved his hand almost in my face, before walking away in the middle of the conversation. EXTREMELY RUDE. worse yet, he perpetuates racist stereotypes about Asian businesses having bad customer service. I know some wonderful Asian businesses who get misjudged because people like this guy perpetuate these stereotypes. Very unfortunate. Do better. read more

The food is mediocre. Don't expect something like Panda Express, or real Chinese food- it's neither and misses the quality of both. The portion size and price is good however. This seems to be good enough for Winnemucca locals, but it's lackluster for everywhere else. read more

We are vegetarian and vegan and we were traveling from Reno to Elko. What a wonderful surprise to find an entertaining host and delicious food at this Chinese restaurant. Right now we are enjoying chow mein, vegetables with tofu and rice, and a pan fried noodle dish. Highly recommend it. read more

Very nice service for a takeaway order and it hits the spot if you are looking for Chinese. We hadn't eaten Chinese in weeks and were craving some, so it hit the spot. But for the Chinese dinner who loves Chinese food, think of it as food court Chinese. We did not have misplaced expectations given the location so we were actually perfectly content with our meal, but I found it hard to decipher the Yelp reviews which is why I am adding mine. My husband ordered the Szechuan chicken dinner special with egg roll and chicken chow mein. The chow mein was mushy, and the fried battered chicken with a sweet sauce was not even mildly spicy. We were pretty sure that it would have looked and tasted the same if we had ordered the generals chicken instead. But again, it satisfied the craving. The veggie egg roll was good (the fried spring roll kind) and came with a sweet and sour sauce. My mixed vegetables deluxe had a surprisingly large assortment of vegetables in a white cornstarch based sauce, comprising cabbage, carrot, mushrooms, water chestnuts, zucchini, bok Choy, baby corn, broccoli, onions. Our small portion of hot and sour soup was by no means small- and would have been enough for 3 adults. It was spicy, and had tofu and egg drop. We liked this, as did our toddler. Stopped by here en route to Carson city and they did not disappoint! Even though it was take out only (due to people not wanting to work) and we ate on tailgates, the staff was super friendly and the food was delicious!! When a traveler like me sees that a establishment hasn't been reviewed in 8 months and photos describes too saucy or glomby food what do you do????? Right now take out only so I picked up an order of crab Rangoon and BBQ pork in vegetables. Rangoon a bit chewy but nice green onion taste with Krab. Entree a wonderful assortment of well woked vegetables big enough to taste each individually. The pork tender and what a roast pork should taste like -wonderful. The brown sauce flavorful and NOT overly salty. My order was easy on the sauce and they complied. They are somewhat hidden around from Ridley's supermarket where I did shop for needed supplies. Our check out gal was nice enough to sipe her club card because we're not locals. So here's a vote for this restaurant. read more

The Mongolian beef meat wasn't good it was very spongy and the vegetables weren't cooked all the way so the onion smell was potent. I just got to Winnemucca and I am quite pleased with the food. I've lived in Las Vegas for more that 16 years now and have been pampered with delicious foods everywhere. Moving here I was afraid everything would suck. What a pleasant surprise to have a good Chinese restaurant here! I had the sweet and sour pork, with steamed rice. It was great. Jay had the chow main with garlic beef, which he enjoyed. The portions are gigantic, so order accordingly. We could've shared one entree they were so big! I'll definitely come back. read more

More like 4.5 stars. Being back in town I've realized they are more consistent with good quality again. Recently went in for dinner with friends who were visiting us, most of the dishes were ones I had never tried (pineapple chicken, BBQ pork with snowpeas and vegetable deluxe) along with the always fun, sizzling beef platter. I'm a big vegetable person in my Chinese and all the dishes were pretty good. Notably the BBQ pork with snow peas and the squishy, yet firm (unique texture) shataki mushrooms in the vegetarian dish. Only thing I wouldn't order is the pineapple chicken. I would probably just opt for regular sweet and sour instead. China garden has better BBQ pork dishes, and better walnut prawns. They also have a larger soup selection than Wonderful House. Yay china garden for being as good as I remember as a kid. read more

Spending some time in Winnemucca during this interesting time known as "quarantine". We were looking for some good Chinese food to take back to the hotel and this little place did not disappoint! Everything was great and ready to go right when they said it would be. I LOVED the Kung Pao chicken and their rices was perfect. The gentleman helped me out to the car and was very friendly. If ever we're back down this way when things are back to normal, I look forward to trying a sit in meal. read more

The service is always super speedy here. You will be seated right away, and the food will come out within 5 minutes of ordering. In terms of quality or flavor of the food, it's about on-par with fast food Chinese joints but you get what you pay for, the portions are large but the quality of the meat and noodles leaves something to be desired. Two people can have dinner for $20, be in and out within 30 minutes with leftovers. The portion sizes are plenty big for the entrees. If you want a little bit of everything, the dinner and lunch specials come with soup, an egg roll, rice/chow mein in addition to your protein selection. There are not a ton of dining establishments in Winnemucca, especially Asian food- so when the hankering hits, this will do. read more

Hands down the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The pork was so dry and tough, like it had been dehydrating under heat lamps all day, you couldn't even pull it apart. The shrimp was rubbery and the breading wasn't at all crispy and just tasted of fry oil and nothing else. Everything was flavorless. The *only* thing that had any flavor was the fried rice, which i'd only give a C+. Worst Chinese meal I ever ever had. Won't be coming back here again -ever! And I certainly don't recommend this restaurant. I'm vegetarian and ordered the vegetable tofu and the egg foo young. Tofu was fried in a deep fryer and was very brown (borderline burnt). Egg foo young was also deep fried. I've never had egg foo young done this way before. I asked waitress if a dedicated fryer was used for the vegetarian dishes. "No it's all fried in the same fryer". I don't appreciate eating veg tofu that's been fried with pork, chicken, beef, shrimp, etc. If I would have known this before eating I would have requested the tofu to be steamed not fried. The menu did not even state these items were deep fried nor did the waitress offer different cooking method options. I think I'll go throw up now. read more

We had such a great experience ordering takeout here on our way to Yellowstone from the SF Bay Area that we ordered here again on our way home! I called in our order and the gentleman who answered the phone was very helpful and patient with my vegetarian order. We ordered some menu items, and some special requests. The Mushu Vegetables with tofu were delicious, and a huge portion. The Tofu with Broccoli was quite tasty. We also loved the Hot and Sour soup, which we requested to have made without meat. My kids always request Sweet and Sour Tofu, which they were happy to accommodate, and the host recommended Sesame Tofu, which we tried the second time. The Sesame Tofu was so good! The sauce was a bit spicy with lots of flavor and the fried tofu survived the trip back to the hotel. Next time I would ask for more broccoli, because even that was delicious. The only dish that was just ok was the veggie chowmein. The noodles were good, and my kids were happy with it, but the veggies and cabbage were bland and mushy. I would probably ask them to skip the veggies if possible. The portions were big enough that we had leftovers for lunch on the road the next day, and they offered paper plates and plastic cutlery so we could easily eat in the hotel room. If you are looking for food that is vegetarian and / or kid friendly I'd definitely recommend China Garden! read more
