Calvert Hospice (CH) is an organization I have supported for over 8 years. They are a small non…read moreprofit organization that makes a big difference in the lives of Calvert county residents. This hospice is amazing. My father was in a for profit hospice in Prince Georges county (now out of business) and his care was terrible. Calls for advice or assistance were not return, I was yelled at by a nurse who told me my question could have waited until morning. To many things to go into. CH has a staff of kind, caring individuals who always go the extra mile and minister not only to the patient but the family. The services offered to ease anxiety and fear are second to none. They treat anyone with a need regardless of their ability to pay. The Hospice House is something that people don't realize they need until it becomes a part of their lives. The same with bereavement services and other trainings. CH is always looking ahead to ensure that Calvert County has the tools they need to handle losses. Rock On Calvert Hospice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My aunt suffered so much. Horrible! This is treatment you could only find in the dark ages. This hospice hastened my aunt's death for no reason! She was sent home from the hospital with a completely broken femur, yet hospice took her on and dosed her to such an extent that she slipped away and died. When she clearly and lucidly told you she didn't want any medicine, you put it in her mouth against her will. Wow, who does that? Really? You hospice people think you had the right to treat a broken femur?? No way! You should have INSISTED she be in the hospital for God's sake! People trust you to be the caring professionals. The hospice staff member even said, "Oh, we weren't prepared to treat a broken leg!" This is clearly the way you run your business....over-medicate when you see fit. That is NOT WHAT her family wanted, believe me. The worst part....every time you manipulated her broken leg (to insert catheter, clean her back, etc.) SHE FELT IT AND SCREAMED IN PAIN! So much for your overdose....it didn't even keep her out of pain! Our grief of losing our aunt to cancer has been compounded with the ongoing PTSD we now have of hearing the flashbacks of her suffering, never being able to say good-bye, and knowing her early death was caused by hospice over-medicating her. You should know better, and you should definitely be out of business.

They kept telling my dad who had pancreatic cancer stage four that people graduate from hospice and people can drive on hospice and all this stuff that is not OK. My dad went to their hospice house was there five days and suffered the entire time my dad was an amazing person and good to everyone he came across and he didn't deserve to suffer like that and it's all of their fault. The one lady that comes visit her every week is 70 years old, has had a stroke, and has to drive over an hour just to get there and really isn't that much help . My niece is taking care of my mom at home the best she can . My mom is in a hospital bed now because she fell and broke her arm in three places . Two assistants from hospice were supposed to come out 4 days a week to help my niece bathe my mom . Yesterday when they called my niece said first of all they sounded like they had attitudes and she was worried about that , and second of all they never showed up at all . I don't understand why people take jobs in that type of Industry that don't care . Find another job that fits your personality better. This world needs caretakers that actually CARE!!!

It feels strange to give a review for a place where one spends their last moments, but as those…read moremoments are so valuable, it is important to highlight the great work that Delaware Hospice does. I spent the last several days of my father's life with him at Delaware Hospice, and I was beyond impressed at the care both he and our family received while there. The facility is beautiful, both inside and out. Every patient has a private room with a private bath, and there are patios and plenty of green space to walk around in or look out on. The rooms are of a large size, so there is ample space for loved ones to gather comfortably. The staff were warm and knowledgeable about my father's condition and what he did or did not need at different stages at his decline. I was really touched that we were allowed to bring in the family dog, who meant so much to my dad, to say goodbye. I don't think I am expressing myself well enough here to do this place justice, but I will say that I live out of state now and have thought to myself many times since my father's passing that I hope that when I am at the end of my life's journey I have an equally kind, warm, and understanding environment to take my last breaths in. I don't think they could do a better job.
