This is where people go to get worse than when they arrived. There is no communication between…read moreTidal Health discharge and Genisis intake. My brothers travel cath bag was left on him for over 24 hrs after arrival. He emptied it himself all over the floor, The nurse cleaned it up with his bedding, left the cath still attached to his leg and him in the clothes which the urine was spilled all over. When I saw him that evening he was wearing the same cath bag, again overfilled and the attending nurse had no idea that he even had a catheter. When She came to empty the bag she looked all around the bed for the bag and exclaimed, "he dosn't have a cath." She had to be told it was still the one attached to his thigh by Tidal Health discharge nurse. Genisis is suppose to be documenting the amount of fluid being discharged and reporting it to the cardiologist. They are not doing this. This is clearly neglect and elderly abuse. There are to many patients to caregivers in this facility. The facility is filthy. The State of Maryland should investigate and shut this place down before more people die/

I am astonished by how poorly run this rehab facility is. I would think if you are an employee…read morehere, you would be competent at your job. However, this is clearly not the case. My grandmother unfortunately ended up in this rehab center during COVID after she had a fall and broke her pelvic bone and wrist. Here are specific issues we experienced. Based on the reviews, I see these things are unfortunately common: 1. Incompetence with providing correct medication to patients: my grandmother was either not given the correct medication or dosage on several occasions while at Genesis. Thankfully, my grandmother is still mentally sharp, and called them out when they either tried giving her medication for things such as heart palpitations (which she doesn't have). They also did not give her the medication her doctor prescribed, even though we confirmed the medications/dosages several times with Dr. Nancy Benjamin Jean-Marie (who I will comment on below regarding my thoughts on her professionalism and capability as an MD). I find it hard to believe that employees at this facility cannot accurately read and comprehend a patient chart, so instead I chalk this up to laziness, incompetence, and lack of sympathy for patients. I am currently pursuing action against these individuals for negligence and putting a patient's health/life at serious risk. There internal compliance department has already been informed of these issues. 2. Communication skills: as COVID has changed the protocol for how families can see their loved ones in facilities such as this one, we relied heavily on communication, either with my grandmother or the nurses/doctors. When calling the nurses station to question the allegations my grandmother had mentioned (wrong medication, wrong dosage, etc.), there was a major lack of empathy along. The nurses at station 5 were always in a hurry to get us off the phone, and sometimes even hung up on us mid conversation. Again, I have several of these conversations noted, and in none of them were we being rude or asking too much of them. We simply wanted to ensure our grandmothers safety and health. However, they were always rude and did not provide information or call us back when requested to do so. Moreover, in conjunction with the above, when we called to confirm that we could bring our grandmother's medication to the facility, I was told that this wouldn't be a problem and we can drop it off. After dropping off the medication with a receptionist (name withheld due to ongoing action being taken), we were assured that the nurses were waiting on this medication and she will receive it. I would love an explanation on how they then misplaced/lost the medication if it was expected? Either there was malicious intent, which I hope there was not, or there is an overall gross incompetence at Genesis. 3. Misplacing/losing items: I have seen past reviews regarding this matter. Clearly, the owner of this facility nor the compliance department is taking action on this, as it continues to happen (and I'm sure will be brought up in future reviews - please take note). Simple things like medication, magazines, and clothing belonging to my grandmother were been 'misplaced' and never found. 4. Food: see other reviews. Also, please refer to this 2019 inspection report: https://www.medicare.gov/nursinghomecompare/InspectionReportDetail.html?ID=215067&SURVEYDATE=10/16/2019&INSPTYPE=STD. You will see poor food quality and lack of licensed individuals to ensure a patient's dietary needs are met were noted in this report. And unfortunately this is still true as of September 2020. 5. COVID specific: please refer to this link to see COVID cases among the residents and staff at this facility: https://projects.propublica.org/nursing-homes/homes/h-215067. In short, as of September 2020, they have had 141 confirmed COVID cases and 19 deaths. 6. Dr. Nancy Benjamin Jean-Marie: see review here: https://doctor.webmd.com/doctor/nancy-benjamin-jean-marie-cd7c9c8b-9206-4506-b36c-6cb322676ad3-overview Overall, depending on the state of your loved one, I would recommend trying to get them into HealthSouth (Encompass Health). Encompass is more for acute rehab, but I have heard phenomenal things about this facility through nurses who work/worked at Peninsula. I would avoid Genesis if you can.

The facility is clean and attractive, however, there have been numerous difficulties since. We have found communication to be a significant problem. There have been numerous leadership staff changes since mom moved in. I hope the new hires improve communication and the efficiency of accomplishing objectives. We have had errors in payment transfers, lack of notification of medical procedures, difficulty getting vital forms completed and sent to the appropriate organizations, failure to respond to mom's medical alert button. The staff are always nice and pleasant but there seems to be little consistency. We feel they are understaffed and have difficulty retaining employees. Good management and leadership are needed as well as improved communication.

Two days later didn't remember it. Major reason we placed her, she could toilet herself, but she could not wipe. we told them numerous times, that she could not go to the toilet by herself. Four of the 5 times we visited, my wife found she had a "mess" in her depends. The 5th time the toilet was backed up. and feces backed up in the shower stall. Contact allowed a camera in her room, with permission. I was told it was not a problem, but when i placed one, it never connected, but disappeared. The manager was arugemative, said it was not allowed and very nasty about it. They have cameras in common areas but we a re not allowed, in her private room? Avoid Bob Miller, at all costs. He asked me to turn and face him. I'm in a WHEELCHAIR. Who says that? Everyone else was very nice, but borderline negligent. Mom fell on day 5, they called said she was "fine". Next day visit, huge bruise on her arm. Day 9, fell again, thats' twice in 4 days. She's "fine". Next day, Easter Sunday we got there at 1pm, she was still in bed, nothing to eat or drink, disoriented, and very weak. We immediately began packing and removing her. Three days alter she still can not walk, and we believe she fractured her coccyx. (My wife and I are retired medical professionals.). Mom lived with us for 15 months, and had one fall. She was there 10 days and had 2 falls in 4 days. We were forced to get her care becasue my health went down hill, vision, wheelchair, ventilator. This ordeal was a disaster, and totally unacceptable, and incredibly stressful, esp for my wife. She had to do all the packing and moving two wheelchairs around, mom and me. They did an extremely poor job of evaluation and care. I would consider any positive reviews. of which there are quite a few out there, suspect.

High ceilings, lots of meeting spaces and a large wide front porch made the home very inviting. And the staff was awesome, in a very challenging environment Everyone had a smile. I witnessed them dispose of medications in the hallway trash cans that were never given to the residence due to staff memebers forgetting. I witnessed them throw a elderly resident in the floor and beat on her until she was bloody and then cry to her family when they came to see her. I witnessed them refuse medical treatment to a dying resident who was begging to be transported to tidal health in Salisbury Md. they said it was a money issue and he would be sent right back however this violated his rights he begged and his family begged. The same resident died the next morning aMd was left cold for six hours. I was told if I called 911 and got him a ambulance I would be fired. I was left on the dementia until by myself taking care of 12 residence by myself as a new hire only two days in. There was no wipes available to clean residence and I was forced to clean them with wet rags after they used the bathroom. I witnessed them give one residence medication to another resident due to the cmt feeling like his pain wasn't be addressed , which it wasnt but what she did was illegal. I was deprived of my 2 -15 minute Breaks almost every shift. I witnessed residence fall and the staff never contacted the family or filled out incident reports. I witnessed them leave residence in their own feces for up to 8 hours due to they didn't like working with certain residence. It was heartbreaking and it's all been turned in to the board of nursing. Please be careful where you place your loved ones.
