When someone finally comes to the counter, you're rushed. They charge if you're 15 minutes late, but they don't even work on your pet until hours after your appt. The reason for my lower rating is solely based on how the axolotls were housed. I'm not an axolotl expert, but I have read that they can temporarily be kept in small containers as long as the water is changed daily. However, how long are they kept in these containers? That said, seeing them in small containers on shelves near insect and lizard food felt sad and uncomfortable. It reminded me of how betta fish are often displayed in big pet chain stores. From what I've learned, axolotls do best in individual aquarium tanks with cycled, filtered water. I understand that retail space and logistics can make that challenging. An employee did mention they move them once their tail reaches the end of the container, but I'm sure that meant they move them to a bigger container. The water did look clean, so I'm hoping they're receiving frequent full water changes. I truly don't mean this as an attack -- it just made me sad. I came here with family while visiting from California, so not sure if selling them this way is common since they're illegal to own in CA. They're such unique and delicate creatures, and I wish their setup reflected that a bit more. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, because overall it really is a neat store!
