As a longtime resident, I like that it's clean, quiet, and safe. It has everything you need: proximity to the beach, shopping and restaurants within walking distance, 24/7 security, secure package delivery room, reserved off street parking, courteous staff, friendly neighbors. I've seen complaints about construction. It's complete and has given a fresh update to the grounds and has eliminated plumbing issues that we're difficult to live with. Other complaints have been about the ability to have a pet, specifically dogs. The HOA does this because this is a complex with many residents. Typically large complexes life this can be expected to be a bit busy, but The Plaza is a relatively quiet place to live, which is no minor accomplishment. There are a handful of dogs that do live here, and even the best behaved ones have barked. Multiply that number and we no longer have a quiet place to call home. There are other complexes that allow dogs, so if that's really important to you too have one, it's probably easiest to search elsewhere. Regarding the board itself, yes they've been tough over the years. Fresh blood and ideas are making their way in. Again, with so many residents, they can't be terribly lenient, otherwise they'd have to me lenient with everyone. That's how we'd end up with a noisy and dirty community. Living here is fine, it's clean safe etc but the front desk girls have THE biggest attitude ever they suck. The security is present but they give you violations over ANYTHING. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT RENT HERE!!! I have been here for 6 months and made a huge mistake by jumping on a 2 bedroom that overlooked Mission Bay. You will read in other reviews of the security guards. I want to emphasise this point. They will look for anything that they can fine you for. You cannot even have the tiniest of speakers near you at the pool area. My GF was told to move her chair back from the pool to make it at least 4 feet from the water. Last time I checked, I was an adult in a pool area. You will have guards come up to you every time they pass through the pool area to make sure you have plastic. These are the same guards that checked you 20 minutes ago. These same guys will walk towards you in the parking garage and not crack a smile while sticking out their chest. Also, don't try and check your mail or get a package. Mail room is locked between 1 and 3, which can be plus or minus an hour in each direction. Water is shut off on a monthly basis for the better part of a day. Total joke of a place. As for the large cockroaches, this is not joke. I am counting the months until my lease is up. If you are a senior, and I really don't know how they handle the stairs down to Vons, you may like this place. Otherwise, avoid at all costs! read more

Experienced extreme discrimination as a resident here for two months, extremely unhappy with other residents as they particularly "hate" the Irish, according to the security guards. My friends and I were well behaved and painted by the one brush by the whole complex. Who are extremely influenced by the "top" residents. I would not recommend anyone to stay here unless they want to be discriminated against and to engage in interactions with people who have pre determined minds based on your nationality. There were fleas upon move-in. This place touted that they were dog-friendly but there was nothing friendly about the way they handle people with dogs (and all the dogs I met there were very well behaved). Both the management and a myriad of residents went above and beyond to make me and my small, sweet, barely noticeable 11-lb dog feel like dirt. They had a groundskeeper (not even management) kick us out of every communal area siting that you couldn't have dogs there while we had the apartment fumigated for the fleas that infested the condo before move-in. No signs were posted anywhere about this and it was not listed anywhere in the lease. I don't recommend long-term rental here period, much less for dog owners. read more

I've lived here for almost a year now and haven't had too many issues. It's a great location as it is about 10 blocks from the beach. It's a simple bike ride away to the ocean if you're into surfing. The community itself ranges from young professionals to seniors. It does have a senior community vibe overall. There are 3 pools and a lagoon with fish in it. I haven't had any issues with cockroaches like other reviews say. Each apartment is individually owned so living could vary per apartment. I've lived here two years. 24/7 security guard on premises, nice pool areas with hot tubs, decent gym, wonderful cleaning/maintenance and landscaping employees that always keep the place looking great. I want to recognize Cindy in the front office too. She is REALLY good at her job. I'm sure she deals with angry residents at their worst but she has always been great. She works with a sense of urgency about anything I've requested and she's truly excellent at communication and customer service. I've only had to deal with the HOA once to do some construction in my unit and it was a fine transaction. They approved my plans and that was that. You can't beat the location with it's proximity to grocery stores, the beach/bay and you're just far enough away from the madness of PB to not be affected by it. The neighborhood is pretty quiet even on weekends and my neighbors are nice and respectful. read more

Appalled that I even have to leave one star. I've been a resident for over five years, and always been concerned by the property attendants. Thankfully I no longer have to endure this toxic environment. After a recent encounter with the "board" I can truly say I've never met such a narrow minded bunch of people. I just wish I hadn't wasted my time because they had already made their mind up before I entered the door. The word hearing is used in the poorest sense of the word. Not to mention the fact that someone was stabbed to death around the corner from my unit and security didn't do a thing. Its for one thing a massive conflict of interest, but how a mother and son constantly get the same positions make you wonder if something untoward is going on. She seems very preoccupied with managing her own agenda. I heard her yelling at one board meeting, for no apparent reason, and then being asked kindly by a resident to not raise her voice. Not to mention all the lawsuits brought against her and the directors, many of which they have lost. This then caused their law firm to reconsider the retainer fee, and increased it substantially. No problem they said, they just charged every resident the difference because they didn't have the money required for their retainer. So now they have a massive pot of additional money because they didn't take the advice of their lawfirm, which then dramatically increased their fee. In addition to this the property attendants act with very little information or knowledge about a particular issue. I was issued a violation of the rules for having my dogs off leash. Despite the fact I don't have any dogs. That would have been fine, I accept mistakes happen, except the fact we received an additional violation regarding the same dogs two weeks later. For the most part the condo is quiet and clean, although the washers and dryers defy belief. Very hard to use and figure out since they made them "smart" The HOA fee is an absolute joke. They increased the fee by $5 a month years ago to make the newsletter in color, and then just took up half the damn thing with an advert for their own property management company - hence the conflict of interest. I can't tell you the relief and happiness I have since leaving that place. I usually like to lay low and stay out of trouble but somehow in that place with Mary around it just seems to come to you. And I'm very glad I don't have to deal with it any more. I could go on but I feel like I've summarized enough for the time being. I wouldn't say that this would necessarily persuade you one way or the other to stay in this condo, since overall its a decent environment, I just wanted to highlight the things that can happen, and especially highlight how poorly they are managed, such as the murder. read more

BUYERS BEWARE- Thankful we dodged a bullet in purchasing a condominium at this location. The grounds are well kept and the condo itself was beautiful but the HOA forces pet owners to register their pets as "emotional support animals" or you can not live there. Considering we would have been paying a mortgage for this place plus HOA, we found that to be ridiculous and a deal breaker. They have a lot of rules which is understandable considering there are 500 plus apartments and it is in PB. If you don't like rules it is definitely not the place for you. I've lived in here for four years and there are constantly new rules being put into place which make it feel like your living in a jail. Never mind this- but the board basically controls everything here with no resident input. There has been construction going on for two years outside of our apartment along with rent increases LOL. Now the plaza says there cutting down a massive tree that basically gives us any privacy at all from all the neighbors peering into our unit and is home to hundreds of birds! They say they care about wildlife preservation but without even considering other options are cutting down massive trees home to all these innocent birds. I moved in here a few years ago. I've lived a bunch of places, and this one ain't bad. There's 700+ units but it is remarkable how quiet it is. There is always construction, but that is the drawback of urban living. They just refinished the pool, I have a garage spot and I can walk to Vons and Trader Joe's. I am happy I bought a condo here. Of course you can have a bad experience in any place you live, but this place really ain't all that bad. I'd have to say the general decor is a little outdated (you can tell it's definitely from the '70s) but other than that I don't have any complaints. The good/bad thing about this place is that all the units are privately owned, and it seems most of the owners are elderly. I guess this place is a little bit like a senior community, which really isn't all that bad. Everyone I've encountered is nice and friendly. The pro to that is that in general it's quiet, and that too is a con...well I guess only depending on who your neighbors are. Security is never an issue. There are security guards on-site 24 hrs a day, and if you have an issue they are good about taking care of it promptly. There are four pools and one really sweet pond right outside of the lobby area, a library, workout room complete with saunas, and tennis courts. If you have guests over I'd definitely be a little weary about parking in the guest spots because they are very good about keeping track of how long cars are there, so I'd suggest you have your guests park in the parking lot behind Brueggers. We've never had problems there. As far as the quality of the condos go, it really just depends on what the owner has done with the place. The one that we're in has a lot of the standards and not many upgrades, but the layouts of the condos are great! They all have at least 3 built in sliding door mirrored closets!! Lots of storage space! If you're a renter this is a great place to live, and if you can afford to buy one of these, I'd say it's a great place to own! read more

I have lived here since 2013 and I absolutely love it, but it does take a certain type of person to live here. It is very quiet, non-smoking facility, with a senior community vibe, although there are many young professionals as well. Not too many families with children live here. If you like to have parties or play loud music late into the night, this place is not for you. Pros: three parking structures, pools, jacuzzi, tennis court, 24 hour security, lounge, patios by the pond, laundry on site, and a small but functional gym. So, I thought I might be a little harsh when I wrote my last review on this place. But since moving out 4 months ago, I could not be happier. I love my new place that has rules that are not overly strict and makes me feel at home and not like a prisoner. Plus I can quit worrying about being fined for every little thing. I had left a cooler out to dry for a few day and forgot to bring it in. Ya it was out there for about a week, well I got a notice stating that I had a fine for second offense. Went to their little hearing wanna be court deal with HOA, and stated this was the first time this had happened. In their records, they stated the 1st time was 6 months before on the day after I had moved in. I had put out garden hoses on a nice garden hose reel and a few boxes I had not gone through or got ride of because I JUST MOVED IN. According to their records they just wrote box or cooler. I never got a note for the 1st Offense because I would have just told them I had moved in and was still in the process of unpacking. Then a few months later during football season, we hung our College teams flag, inside our window. INSIDE OUR HOUSE, not on the outside. Well accordingly to their HOA policy manual, chapter blaa blaa blaa, section bla of X code, only Screen shutters can be hung in the window. Really...WTF. Okay, Sorry for offending people with a little pride of the college we went to with our little flag inside our house DURING football season. Walls are paper thin, so you can hear everyone, and it was time to move. So over this place. So in the moving out process, found out the vent in our bathrooms that were suppose to suck out the moisture out was not even an installed system. There was always red mold growing in our bathroom and we could not figure out why, even with the fan on it still so much moisture. When we moved out I had taken down the vent piece to clean it and unscrewed it from the wall to notice they had just carved out enough of a hole in the wall that the fan would fit. The air was not being sucked into anything. I still would not recommend this place to anyone, I was seriously miserable there. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE OR YOU WILL REGRET IT!!! This complex is a joke. It is a retirement community. All of the condos here are split between young rowdy tenants and senior citizens. SInce they are privately owned, each unit is a hit or miss. Our unit is managed by a guy whom is extremely unprofessional. The only time he will respond to you is if there is money involved and he is on the receiving end. He will do what ever he needs to do to get you in get your money and then you will never be able to get him to reply to your emails or phone calls. As soon as our lease ends we are getting out of here fast!! Unless you live on the top floor you will constantly have to hear everything from upstairs. We can even hear the upstairs neighbors phone vibrating. We can also hear them having intercourse. It is seriously a nightmare. I hate living here. read more

It is truly a shame that a complex like the Plaza, with so much potential considering its size and location, can be managed so horrifically. Staff: The HOA and the Property staff (with the exception of Kimmy and Chuck who are incredibly humble and helpful) make living here feel as though you've moved into a restricted retirement community. A community that is managed by Linda Anderson, an overzealous, rude, nasty woman who I could picture ruining children's birthday parties for fun. Linda has been incredibly unhelpful as well as blatantly rude during every interaction I, or my roommates had with her. The HOA President, Mary Nicksic, is no better. Mary seems to enjoy drama as seen in her last campaign for president where she resorted to smear tactics in the form of newsletters, emails, and cold knocking on doors in order to maintain her reign. I have personally been on the receiving end of her shady backstabbing ways, she has no remorse and will instead report you for violations instead of extend a word of warning to help one navigate the long list of rules at the Plaza. Site: The location of the plaza is wonderful and has everything you need within walking distance. The grounds themselves are very nicely maintained and features 4 pools, gym and tennis court. The pools are nice, however they only keep 2 pools heated at any given time, which is confusing considering the enormous monthly HOA bill. The gym is a nice perk, however leaves a lot to be desired for the athletic types. I have never used the tennis court or the billiards room, but you are required to leave your ID as well as a $50 deposit to use either. The laundry services are nice, however they keep raising prices per wash. They also close the laundry rooms at 10pm and if your clothes are locked inside, security will hold your clothes in the office and fine you . They offer grills in the pool area, however security will fine you if you leave while pre-heating the grill. The plumbing throughout is about 40 years old and has a lifespan of about 30 years. As a result, some neighbors floors have had to be jack hammered open to service pipes (repairs are the owners financial responsibility), tree roots in pipes, as well as monthly water shut offs. Restrictions: They have a package room set up that residents only have access to for 4 hours out of the day in 1 hour blocks. (ie. 8-9am, 1-2pm, ect). Nothing in the pool except yourself. I have seen a father get written a fine after his ~4yr old threw a beach ball in the pool. Service animals only, who also are required to have a DNA test on file. Nothing so much as a mop bucket clothes hanger or towel can be visible on the patios or balconies. Patio furniture is about it. In summary: The Plaza is located so ideally for anyone wanting to live in and experience Pacific Beach. With that being said, the Plaza is one of many housing options in the area and should be avoided if you value your domestic freedoms. As long as the HOA continues to head in the current direction, and someone like Linda is the property manager, the Plaza will be one of the last places I would ever live again. read more

My boyfriend and I lived in the plaza for about 3 years. This review is a long time coming. Let it be forewarned that I'm going to list the good, the bad, and the ugly and I hope that people can take it to heart. Let's start with the good: Kimmy and Chuck are fantastic!! They are the community liaison and maintenance manager. They are caring, responsible, and attentive. They deserve a pat on the back and a big pay increase. Same for the teams behind the scenes at the plaza, the janitors and the maintenance staff are great. The security guards mean well but sometimes I find that the HOA has inflated their egos just a bit and that is reflected in their work... but that's for another time. Location is killer!!! Mile from the beach, above lots of shops. I hardly ever needed my car. Now onto the bad: the entire condo complex is managed by Linda Anderson. She is the facility manager and the least helpful person in the entire place. You have a problem in your unit? Don't expect any sympathy from Linda. She is more concerned with gathering fines from the residents for the most frivolous reasons (i.e. leaving a broom on the patio-gasp!!!!) and also supporting her best friend and HOA Prez Mary Niksic's agenda. That's right- best friends and partners in crime. Seems odd and a bit of a conflict of interest that the residents don't have a single supporter on their side. I have never been treated with so much disrespect or ridicule. I don't want to bore you with too many details but I'll relay one story. We registered my puppy as a service dog. In order for a dog to live in the plaza, it has to be a support dog. No big deal, ours was registered anyways. We took him to the office to swipe his mouth (yes they DNA test every dog so if they find feces around the complex, they can test it and fine the owner....I'm sure security didn't sign up for that) and while in the office, linda came over and cuddled my pup and remarked how cute he was. Hmm she has a soft side, wow! I thought I could have been wrong about her. Fast forward about a week, my boyfriend was taking the dog to the pet store in the pouring rain. He ducked though the lobby to use the back staircase. We didn't know you couldn't bring the service dog through the lobby, had we known, we would have walked around. While in the lobby, mary and Linda came up to the dog and again gave him lots of kisses, let us know how cute he was etc. Great!!! Maybe the attitude around the plaza is changing. Nope, we get a letter from the HOA letting us know that dogs aren't allowed in the lobby and the next time it happens we will be fined. Was this mentioned by the manager and HOA prez as they were burying their faces in my pup and complimenting him? Nope. It's this type of hypocrisy that drove us out of the plaza. We have since moved and are completely happy. You should move to the plaza if you: are over the age of 65, want to only check for your packages at limited hours, don't mind crazy old people running around, like moldy plumbing, enjoy the sound of constant construction, and love paying the increasing HOA dues. You should not move to the plaza if you: are in your 20s-30s, like using the hot tub past 10 PM, want any pets, enjoy music by the pool, don't mind getting your laundry moved and fined if you're doing it past 10 PM, etc. read more

It'll be almost 1 year since I encountered this place after moving in & moving out there for 2 days in of the apartments that was a house of horror coach roaches at night. I learned so much from inspecting cupboard drawers (if you notice black, colored tiny specks those are eggs) & coachroaches coming out at night. The roach spray can hidden in 1 of the drawers when we moved in confirmed it! Unfortunately I learned the hard way that the property manager & the landlord who rented it out to us knew about it, but didn't treat it seriously enough by only using bombs. What was terrible was that the property manager initially acted dumb & said he didn't know about till we caught him in a lie saying that the landlord knew about it & wanted him to use a bomb. Good thing we hired a our own personal exterminator for consulting & not who the the apartment complex had a deal with (who happens to have a bad BBB report history). The Orkin guy that handled our case was so helpful & informative from transitioning of how to move & move in to a place with bugs. Whether this specific place at the plaza received follow up maintenance extermination, who knows that all depends on the landlord's decision. read more

Entering the Plaza Condominiums is reminiscent of coming into a palace with it's round about, flowers and trees, fountains, lovely landscaping and covered walkway. Entering the lobby is a fully staffed office on the right and a security office operating 24/7. The lounge is a large room with a fireplace, overstuffed couches and chairs, and a bar overlooking the patio and lagoon. The lagoon has received an award for being a natural reserve for wildlife. In close proximity is a library, a mini theatre, a billiard room and a well-equipped exercise facility complete with bathrooms, showers and saunas. 5 lovely lighted tennis courts with a fantastic view of the ocean and the bay top off the delightful activities. Our hard working maintenance crew spotlessly maintains all of these. In addition, our amenities include well maintained laundry rooms on every floor, covered parking, places to secure bikes, patios, pools and Jacuzzis with barbecues, tables, chairs and lounges for social affairs. There is also a post office, and two parcel receiving rooms with a snack machine. Early on, it was stated that this stunning complex sustained a $4 million reserve earmarked for the exhausted plumbing system. It was also noticeable that the board worked diligently to uphold the CCandR regulations and served the well being of the community as a whole. There also appeared a handful of owners choosing to demand things that are not feasible in a multiple family complex such as ours. By entertaining the multitude of amenities available to us, there would be no time for the problems they bring upon themselves. I am tremendously grateful to our President, Mary Nicksic and the board members who work diligently for free, to maximize our amenities and safety, and minimize our expenses. Cindy Holm P.S. I am a young professional and lived on the 3rd floor at The Plaza for about 2 years. The location is amazing - close to the beach, Kate Sessions Park, Vons, and within walking distance to a number of great restaurants (shout out to the Fish Shop, Café Athena, and Broken Yoke!) and of course all that Garnet has to offer :) The unit I lived in was incredibly clean and quiet. The pool and spa areas were relaxing and a great place to enjoy a good book, use the community grills (propane provided), or lounge with friends. The billiard room was also nice to have onsite and had friends come over a number of times for some drinks and pool without any issues. The gym could use some updating, but all of the basic equipment is there, and it's awesome not to have to get a gym membership or travel to go to the gym. The only reason I left The Plaza was because I moved away from San Diego. I'd recommend The Plaza to anyone that wants to have an amazing location, great amenities, and a relaxing place to call home. read more

We love it here! The location is great, we can walk or bike down to the beach, the stores are just a stroll away. The grounds are well maintained, including the BBQs in each court, the tennis courts are great, and it has a very zen feel overall. It is very quiet- one could argue too quiet if there is such a thing?- and the HOA does not want anything displayed on balconies besides furnitures and plants (living so close to the beach I wouldn't mind seeing beach towels and surf boards out there), but these are the only restrictions I can think of that the poor reviews are mentioning. The residents I come across are nice, pleasant people, from young professionals to retirees, not too many families. Security is quick to shut down loud music, TVs, etc, any time of the day or night. Amenities (4 pools, gym, sauna, jacuzzi) are wonderful. Only drawback here is the parking for guests, street parking can be a 1-2 block walk late at night or early in the morning or weekends. read more

I've been living in The Plaza for a few months and am incredibly happy. The management team that everyone was unhappy about has since been replaced and the new crew has been focused on making the restrictions more fair and lenient. The amenities are awesome- 3 pools, hot tub, gym, tennis courts, etc. The grounds are well-maintained (beautiful trees and ponds with fountains) and the exterior of the building, hallways, and plumbing are all being renovated. The hallways and stairwells are really clean and smell good-- I see a cleaning crew in every day. It's very quiet and neighbors all seem nice and respectful. I feel safe here, with security guards, cameras, and key fobs to get into the building and garages. You absolutely cannot beat the location-- walkable to so many stores, restaurants, and the beach. I have moved out and I couldn't he happier! It is so poorly ran. I have left multiple emails and phone calls to Tavelle in the front office to only find out he had quit (or maybe fired) a week earlier. Nobody had the decency to return my call or respond or my emails. Weird since Tavelles voice was still on the recoding of the Plaza when you called and still had his voicemail set up. Linda the office manager is getting fired at the end of the month thank god!! Only reason why she was there for so long was is because she's friends with Mary HOA President. Apparently Mary had to fire her own friend because of her horrible work ethic. Good news is Chuck one of the other managers is a wonderfully nice man whose motivated to turn this place around. He knows what terrible reputation this place has and I truly believe he can turn this place around. read more

Sadly, my family owns a condo here. I have never lived in a place that is so anti-resident. It is absolutely miserable. The security is there to run you down and threaten you for every single thing they can think of, and then fine you for it. There is no enjoyment of living. Most awful run facility you can imagine. The Plaza has no respect for the community when it comes to their semi-annual, 7+ consecutive days of releasing toxic resin fumes into the environment we live in, severely intoxicating the neighborhood as they resurface their fiberglass pools. I hope that Chuck and Mary do the right thing as property manager and president of the HOA to find a solution for their personal disregard for public safety. Otherwise I am going to have to fine them and call the police just like they do when one of their residents breaks a stupid HOA laws, LOL. Today Date is August 25th 2017. 6 Months ago my family was bombarded by toxic RESIN fumes coming directly from The Plaza (1800 block of Diamond Street and Lamont Street) and into my house (1900 block of Diamond Street and Lamont Street) for 7+days straight, 8+hours a day, which smelled 24/7. This is a direct result of being downwind from The Plaza as they resurface their fiberglass pools, using a toxic liquid RESIN that produces toxic FUMES. Once again, 6 months later, this is happening again today as they resurface their fiberglass pools with toxic RESIN. As the day progresses toxic fumes begin to build up in higher concentration exponentially inside all rooms of my house. Once fumes get in they stay there and I have no way to flush it out of my house without opening a window and letting more of it come in. This time instead calling them and getting nowhere like I did last time when they gave me a B.S. answer about how they might bring out fans to blow the fumes in a different direction, I decided to go over to The Plaza. I spoke with The Plaza's property Manager and he acted like he did not know what I was talking about and acted stupid at first, just like they did the last time I complained over the phone. He basically said that they were not going to do anything about it. Everyone east of Lamont and south of diamond for a block is directly downwind of The Plaza's Bi-Annual toxic RESIN fumes that last for 7+days. The Plaza does not have any issues with their residents because it all gets blown off of their property and into my family's house (2 Kids) and the surrounding neighboring houses. I asked The Plaza property manager what specific RESIN they were using and he said that it was just RESIN. He did not bother to find out what type because he simply does not give a F$#%. However, he did admit that the guys applying the RESIN were all wearing masks so that they would be protected. I asked him why he thought it was okay for them to blast my home with toxic RESIN fumes for 7+ days 24/7. He said that I should just close my windows. I laughed at him and said F*@# Y*#! I am not closing my windows 24/7 for the next 7+ days, that F#$%'in ridiculous. I have a right to clean, toxic free, healthy air. He then told me it was time for me to leave because I was getting too loud. I was leaving anyway even though he had a problem with my Noise Pollution. Funny how he thinks it is perfectly fine for The Plaza to bombard me with their Toxic Pollution RESIN . He also said that no one complains about it which is B.S. because I complained 6 months ago and anyone walking or driving down Lamont Street can smell it. The RESIN they are using smells awful and it gives everyone in my home a migraine headache. In case you think that RESIN is not toxic then ask yourself, why are they wearing protective masks when they apply it? It's because of the Toxic Fumes. There are many types of RESIN's and some are more toxic than others. If you are exposed to RESIN for a long period of time, say 7+ days at a time 24/7, then you can develop SENSITIVITY to it and the next time your body is exposed it will have a more drastic negative effect on you because your body is basically telling you to get away from the toxin. I don't think it should be okay for The Plaza to make me, my family, and my neighbors have to suffer like this 7+days 24/7 Bi-Annually. Symptoms are Sharp Migraine Headache behind the eyes, burning eyes, sore throat, burning nasal passage, etc. This is B.S. and is a total disregard for public safety. SHAME ON THE PLAZA! The Plaza property manager says that they can't do anything about it but I disagree. 1. Don't install fiberglass pools in the first place if you have to coat them with a toxic RESIN. 2. Don't use cheap RESIN "now if you guys are "cheaping out" on the resins, using that hi gasoline petroleum content stuff, that would definitely cause a bad odor and be vapor harmful. Vegabond comes to mind. Nasty brown cheap resin, usually get a lot of leeching with that stuff, and man it stinks if you sand it." 3. Cover the pool and contain the fumes and suck the fumes into a filter. By the way, if I was a resident their I would be worried about swallowing a bunch of fiberglass and toxic resin if you do decided to swim in those fiberglass pools. They probably don't know how to safely maintain them. Especially if they don't even know what type of RESIN their using. read more

DO NOT LIVE HERE! It is a NIGHTMARE! If I could give Negative stars I would, I only lasted a few months and I don't know how I even did that. You can't even watch a game or movie and have friends over really. It didn't help that I had a psycho neighbor who called the lame security on speed dial over any noise. They harass you non stop and if you get pissed they fine you at least 100 bucks everytime plus call the cops. I was incredibly disappointed in my experience living at the Plaza and am so relieved that I no longer have to call it home. While my landlord was very nice and accommodating, the actual property was infested with cockroaches and the staff and other residents were as unfriendly as possible. I chose the Plaza Condominiums because it felt like a quiet, friendly place to live. Instead, I experienced the most rigid imposition of even the most harmless policies, pest infestation of both private units and common areas (the gym), rude and judgmental treatment by neighbors and staff alike, and a now obvious encouragement by the management for property attendants to actively seek out even the most minimal resident misbehavior in order to collect unreasonably high fines. I have lived in 5 other residences since moving to San Diego, 3 of which were subject to administrative regulation rather than private landlord oversight, and I have never been subject to such an overt display of injustice. I am a full time student who lives a very quiet and clean home-life, and cannot believe that I was able to accumulate multiple citations over only 10 months! I have never received a citation, violation, or fine at any previous rental, have never been evicted, and have always developed productive relationships with property management. Unfortunately, I have come to understand that the Plaza is not similar to other properties, and I am incredibly regretful of my decision to move here. I had never felt so unwelcome in my own home as I did living here, and I am so grateful to no longer be a resident of this property. Although my move was predicated on my units infestation by cockroaches (as I am aware other areas of the property are similarly infested), I would have certainly chosen not to extend my lease based solely on the behaviors and attitudes demonstrated by the Plaza staff and representatives. I hope that people reading this do not take it as a warning by one person who had a hard time--this property is run by a terrible management team that does not care about its residents the way they should. Take my advice and look elsewhere for housing in PB. read more

RUN!!! The other way... Especially if you value your property. The apartments and complex themselves are secure, you need a key to gain entrance, but the "secure parking" is a joke. My own vehicle was stolen from the garage (inside job), and I know of multiple break-ins into cars. Managment could careless about the tenants or their property. They basically get paid to sit around doing nothing all day, and by all day I mean 8-2:30, because that's the length of their work day. Parking is ok (if you trust their "secure garage"), you get one spot per bedroom, but on street is nearly impossible. If you work a 9-5 forget about finding an on street spot within a two block range. Security is slow to respond if at all. When people are partying at 2 AM on a Tues, don't expect security to quiet them down, but if you leave a wet towel over the railing of your balcony, forget about it. They're all over you... The only way I would recommend this place is if you like or study Ants, there are plenty of them in this old complex and the apartments... read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. Beside the fact that we are being vastly overcharged for this place as a whole, it is a money sucking trap of horrible people and policies. The security is NOT there to help you. I am a 29 year old graduate student and my Girlfriend is a 29 year old working professional. we do not have parties, in fact when we moved here we had zero friends, and very little time to do anything at all. As of now we might know about 5 people here 2 of which have ever come to our apartment here. We feel intimidated and constantly anxious in our own home. We have been here for 5 months and have been charged an exorbitant amount of money for various things. We have been woken up in the middle of the night, by security guards asking us to turn down a T.V. that was not even on. We were dead asleep and it was 3 in the morning. We have been charged at a $50 clip 4 times, thats $200 for an infraction that is absolutely insane. We have a tiny TV, (we are talking 10 inches here) in our bedroom at the farthest point from our front door. The rule is the security guards must be able to hear your TV from 15 feet away from your door in the hallway and have a complaint. Not only can you not hear the TV at its loudest from 15 feet away you cannot hear the TV if you press your ear to the door. What had happened was it was 90 plus degrees for a month straight , we left our window open because AC is not allowed and our 65 year old neighbors complained when they woke up at 530 in the morning. By 545 am we had $50 stolen from us by THE PLAZA via a ticket for EXCESSIVE NOISE! Keep in mind you cannot hear this tv from the other room much less anywhere else. We had cranky neighbors who liked to call security and because of that we were punished. They did not listen to see if they could actually hear it from afar they simply wrote the violations, not once but 4 times. Not to mention they cut my bike locks and made me think my bike was stolen and cost me $25 for a new lock. These people are soul-less money grubbing slum lords BEWARE. We never once received a warning just money sucking violations for noise that didn't exist, and bikes that weren't ours. The bills are still coming these people are horrible. read more
