I love this place! Too bad we were there 3 pm we can order more food or more options on the menu. However, we had drinks( pansy & beer), clam chowder, house of bread with butter/sweet grape tomatoes/cheese herb, pulled pork poutine, kale salad with bacon and croutons and sorbets ( peach ginger and melon). Put this on your "bucket list" . . . order the multi-course tasting menu for a three-hour dining experience, not to be forgotten . . . . We indulged ourselves in the eight course tasting menu, which is actually an 11 course dinner if you count the amuse-bouche, palate cleanser and mini-tart finish ($140 per person). This menu changes weekly, but March 16th we enjoyed course after course with the crashing ocean surf and sunset as our backdrop: Shellfish amuse-bouche Albacore tuna in mushroom powder Sablefish in spiced honey Seared Tofino halibut Braised lamb tongue Celery sorbet palate cleanser Roasted bison ribeye Avonlea cheese and brioche with relish Carmelia tart with bitter lemon ice cream Cranberry mini-tart Each course is paired with a recommended glass of fine wine (mostly BC) using their Enomatic system, which keeps the bottle fresh for a month. The 2 oz. glasses are expensive though, averaging around $9, so I only opted in for three courses. The chefs have made a wonderfully creative, fresh menu featuring high quality local and BC sourced ingredients. Each course was presented like art work with carefully prepared accompaniments. Truly a divine culinary adventure, especially the fish and seafood courses. The only critique was that the lamb tongue was a bit too adventurous for my taste (gamey flavour and weird texture), and the ribeye was chewy with the hay and brown butter jus too subtle for bison. The balance was a joy to behold - exceptional plating, tasting, and perfectly cooked. The service is both formally attentive and casually welcoming, not pretentious. The restaurant has a dreamy, commanding view of the beach and ocean surf, with a warm wood-based interior. Frette linens finish the tables. This is a destination restaurant I'd recommend for both tourists and Vancouver Islanders. read more

I ordered tuna tempura and it was delicious. The chef did a good job in making the dish, a little hint of ginger and asian flavor with the tuna. My wife ordered the crab benedict and it was good but not special. The restaurant's atmosphere and view is georgeous with big windows overlooking the big rocks and sea. Highly recommended for your dining experience in Tofino although the prices are a little expensive. read more

Beautiful location for a Valentine's dinner. I could only get a 5 pm early seating booking, but as it turned out, it's really the best time to book in February. After 6, you can barely see the waves crashing on the shore outside the window, which is a fair bit of the attraction for this place. We were fortunate to get a window seat - the person who took my reservation said they couldn't guarantee it, but we lucked out. My wife and I enjoyed the food immensely. We were treated to a free glass of champagne to start (I had told them it was our anniversary soon as well). This was followed by an amuse-bouche of albacore tuna. We split a foie gras appetizer (which they conveniently served on two separate plates!) For entrees, my wife had the duck and I had the pork belly. We decided to have dessert as well; she ordered a chocolate creation whose name escapes me, and I had carrot cake. The entire meal was a delight: the presentation, the aromas and the flavours were a novel and delightful experience for both of us. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive without being overbearing, and while we did have a little trouble acclimatizing our ears to his French accent, he accommodated by patiently repeating himself. Yes, it was expensive, but not unexpectedly so for a fine dining experience like this. "A perfect score!" After visiting some of the best restaurants in both Vancouver and Whistler we were very curious what the Pointe Restaurant would be like. What more can we say other than that it gained a perfect score! Service and food quality both impeccable, knowledge about the wines and menu from the waitress (Lisa) was very good, not affraid to give advice and her opinion when asked. The view was lovely and the restaurant itself had a cosy atmosphere. The bill was 297 dollars incl. 20% tip for 2 appetizers (tuna and great salad of mixed greens), 2 mains (lovely halibut and ling cod), a cheese platter we shared, a bottle of BC wine and 2 bottles of Pellegrino but it was absolutely worth it! What an amazing experience! My partner and I were visiting Tofino from San Francisco, and our dinner at The Pointe was the highlight of our trip. We splurged and went for the five course tasting menu and wine pairings. Everything about the food and wine was wonderful. All of the ingredients were fresh, largely locally sourced, and cooked to perfection. It's obvious that the chef and kitchen staff take pride in their work, because the presentation of everything was immaculate. I almost felt sorry I had to eat the food instead of being able to sit there and gaze lovingly at it all night long! Our highlights included roasted octopus (not rubbery at all) and a play on scallops and bone marrow. At first we thought that the scallops looked undercooked, but then our waiter explained to us that it was actually bone marrow designed to look like scallops and that the scallops were actually the dried chips on top. Turns out that the dish was meant to trick our preconceptions, and we fell right for it! Silly us! I've also never had wine pairings that matched and enhanced the flavors of each course so perfectly. All except one of the wines were local BC wines, and my view of BC wines has definitely been changed by this experience. The service was also perfect all night long. The chef came out a few times to introduce dishes, and our waiter, Marcus, was extremely professional and attentive. He took great care of us, even recommending some local wines and giving us a splash of Venturi-Schulze Brandenberg No. 3 dessert wine as a taster. We liked it so much that we even tried to stop by the winery on our drive back down Vancouver Island just to buy a few bottles to take home with us. Unfortunately, we got there just after closing! The only hiccup was a double charge on the bill at the end of the meal. We changed out one of the dessert wines from the pairing menu and instead of just being charged the difference in price, we were charged the full price for both of our dessert wines. Once we pointed this out though, Marcus fixed it immediately and even waived the price difference. Our meal at The Pointe was pricey, but to be honest, a comparable meal in San Francisco would have easily been double the price. If you want a fantastic dining experience and are not concerned with the price, this is the place to go. Spectacular views, meticulous service, outstanding cocktails, and great food. My wife ordered oysters (cooked). I don't like oysters, but I tried them and was not sorry. I ordered arctic char, which was lightly smoked, delicate and delicious. I was a little disappointed with my $16 winter greens appetizer, but not enough to downgrade the review from 5 stars. It was a perfect place for our 10th anniversary! My wife also got the foraged vegetarian entree, which was very good, but unless you are vegetarian, I would go for seafood, which seems to be their forte. read more

The food was delicious and the view is beautiful. The service left much to be desired. We are staying at the resort, however we did not have a reservation for dinner. They seated us in the lounge and would not seat us in the dining room although 10-12 tables remained open in the dining room throughout our time there. There was an abundance of staff yet they seemed to stand around for the most part yet it was difficult for us to get anyone's attention as they seemed to avoid eye contact. The level of service did not meet the cost and quality of the meal. Unfortunately it had a negative impact on our experience and we won't be having dinner here again. Tried this restaurant once for room service in the evening and then for their famous 'Champagne Sunday Brunch'. Found both menus really limited and all the food was reeeeally bland. Like not even salt on some things. For dinner we had the gnudi, the quail, the special apple-onion soup and the kids burger. Kids burger had the most flavor but fries were soggy. Everything else was prepared for a geriatric palate. For brunch we had the Pointe Breakfast and the special pancakes. Again, zero flavor except for the bacon and sausage. The eggs seemed to be great quality with a nice deep color but totally wasted without any salt (it's not the same to put salt at the table after). The pancakes looked fluffy and beautiful but were completely doughy and heavy on the inside. Almost raw. The fresh nectarine topping was great though. Service was ok but strange. There was just the waiter and no busser. So we had to flag him down for water refills and we never did get coffee refills. Is that a Canadian thing? Too bad. It's a beautiful place and the only convenient food option if you're staying at the hotel and don't want to drive into town. But the food just isn't up to standard and it's expensive. We went the first night we stayed there and then cancelled our reservations for all of the subsequent nights and had *much* better meals in town. The only good things I can say are that the views are phenomenal and they are very conscientious about food allergies. Particular low points of the meal were the rockfish "ceviche" (it was actually an un-marinated too thickly sliced carpaccio) and the sweet breads - I don't understand how they managed to achieve that consistency. The broth for the gnudi was phenomenal, but the gnudi themselves were only okay. Their chef left to start the Wolf in the Fog (where we had a great meal) and his replacements don't seem to be up to the task. read more

It was a relief to come to The Pointe for a veganized tasting menu and not have to worry about a thing. We made reservations for 4 at The Pointe about 4 days before our dinner and gave them the vegan heads up in advance. Tofino is lovely and the people there are very gracious in trying to accommodate a vegan diet, but you come across enough people who don't know what vegans eat and the vegan option is usually singular at most eateries. By contrast, The Pointe provided us an opportunity to sit back and relax and not have to worry about sifting through a menu or making sure we conveyed the meaning of vegan. Basically, we felt taken care of and were able to enjoy our evening together. We arrived for 6:30 and were greeted warmly, first by the hotel front desk and then the hostess who was personable and pleasant. We were seated at a fabulous window table as the sun was setting (yessss!). Their dining room is GORGEOUS. It is placed on the rocks over the sea and surrounded by windows on 3 sides. Not knowing what to expect in terms of our food (it was my first time at The Pointe) I had seen photos of the restaurant online and was excited enough about the dining room alone. Every table in the dining room has a clear view of the ocean. The lounge, which is a few steps up and at the back of the room, still manages to offer an ocean view. (If you come after dark, you will miss out on the ocean view.) Our server informed us at the onset of our dinner of the general plan that evening and reconfirmed our dietary requirements as reported during the initial reservation, even remebering my cashew allergy. The staff were so attentive, we never had to ask for a water refill once. The only beat missed was when our server was unable to report what a certain oil drizzle was when presenting the soup, but I guess they don't get a lot of specialty tasting menus requested and maybe it was difficult to be thrown out of his regular routine. He was humble and admitted he wasn't sure but guessed it might be a cilantro oil, and that was that. It was nice that he escorted us to the washrooms when necessary. That might sound weird, but the washroom is outside the restaurant in the hotel lobby, as is often the case with many hotel restaurants, and it can be easy to get lost. I've been to some restaurants where you have to interrupt bar tenders for directions or wait for hostesses to show you the way, but the staff at The Pointe were always ready to greet you as you passed by and our server was more than happy to direct us to the washroom (thank-you!). Our meal was extremely satisfying. The array of flavours and the thought which went into the courses was appreciated very much by all of our party. We were presented with 6 courses, including an amuse bouche (a fried crispy chickpea polenta cake with a tasty and decorative endive side), a soup (smooth carrot puree with a POW of warm, comforting ginger) and a palate cleanser (a celery root sorbet with cacao nibs). Our meal lasted for 2.5 hours, and we left feeling well fed, happy, and very, very good. The point is if you are craving a fancy schmancy dinner experience with excellent service in a gorgeous setting, The Pointe is for you. read more

We stopped here on a Saturday for a very late lunch and ordered off the bar menu. The chowder was lovely with a mix of seafood. The Pacific Rim Cobb Salad is good, you get a lot of smoked salmon that makes it rich and lots of blue cheese. We were practically the only ones in the restaurant, and I have to say were disappointed in the service. We had to ask several times for things like butter or more water. The view of course is amazing. This restaurant could get 5 stars if they improved their service. read more

Waves crashing, tide pools, surfers, and islands. Food is wonderful as expected. Presentation, local ingredients, taste, portion, and house made bread all on point. I was I initially a little disappointed when we didn't get a window seat, but that quickly dissolved when I sat along the wall by the stairs and got a stunning 180 degree view! Service was superb...and I had one of the best fervency dips of my life...as jus was heavenly. That said, a simple side salad, coleslaw seems in order for what I paid. Everyone who heard that I was going to eat at the Wickaninnish Inn had a long and detailed story to tell about their fabulous experience, and their amazing five-star meal. It started to get kind of boring and I was beginning to wonder if I would be disappointed after so much hype. NOPE. Before dinner we had drinks in the bar area, which is lovely and provides a great view. The restaurant space is beautiful and the view is glorious. It's a romantic room with large wood beams and a blazing fire. All of the wait staff were fabulous - although the hostess telling me about the vibrations of the stone in my necklace was a bit too "Portlandia" - and the food! Oh la la. Divine. Simply divine. And we were able to enjoy that rare treat ... a wonderful chocolate gluten-free dessert. Bonus points for that exquisite experience. All around, an absolute treat. read more

Our server was very sweet and sufficient but in no way the caliber I would expect from the Wickaninnish Inn. First time dining at The Pointe restaurant in Tofino, we celebrated a birthday at the restaurant though we did not stay there as guests, but my cousin had a spa treatment to celebrate her day earlier. The bar tender was very friendly & made some nice cocktails to kick off the evening; Pisco Sour & a Champagne cocktail. Nice window seat & ambience though restaurant was pretty quiet. We both had the "Tasting menu with wine pairings" Overall experience was really good with exception to the lamb being from Australia & not local (Salt Spring) & a little tough and a rather blah plate both taste and presentation wise~was expecting a chutney, mint or something interesting with berry puree/sauce?...and for wine maybe a peppery Syrah, CDP or a Super Tuscan ...the wine pairing Spanish Tempranillo was disappointing too :( The service was great and the Birthday personalized menu & chocolates were very much appreciated. I think next time I would order from the dinner entree menu & skip the wine pairings, as I only liked 3/5 of the wines. read more

Worst tasting menu ever. Wait till dying and don't enjoy the food . Paying too much which not worth it at all. And server kept emphasizing we ordered too much we gonna get too full which i believed once cuz we did. Im really surprised how he got that 'body' without eating burgers. I am skinny and can hardly finish a whole burger, but when i left I barely feel a thing in my stomach. Spent almost $150 per person and had no feeling of even a little bit sense of a good restaurant. A friend and I were in Tofino last spring for a few days, and were staying close by at one of the hotels in town. The Pointe Restaurant was one of the places that I just had to experience while we were there. We caught a taxi from our hotel as we weren't driving, and arrived shortly before the restaurant actually opened, so we enjoyed a cocktail in the lounge until our reservation time. We were seated by the window and it was a beautiful sunny evening. My friend is a picky eater, and had a lot of trouble choosing something off of the menu. Our server was extremely patient with her, and even offered her items off of the kids menu. Our meal started off with some delicious breads and butter. I had an amazing steak with marrow and potato, and my friend had the chicken ceasar salad. To finish, I had a deconstructed chocolate dessert with these incredible coffee flavoured noodles. I wish I could remember what the components were for that dessert! All in all, a wonderful meal and an even better view of the ocean. I'll be back someday, hopefully sooner than later. read more

One word sums up our "champagne brunch" this morning at The Pointe; disappointing. With a family of 5, we were seated at the back of the restaurant, away from the view and the tables reserved for 4. The service started out okay - pleasant server - and everyone had their coffees of juices quite quickly. The children's menu had a great selection and proved to be a hit. We ordered our brunch waited for it to arrive. After watching 2 other tables who were seated after us, receive their meals, the server brought us a stale biscuit with chocolate "from the chef because it was Sunday" - but more likely because we had waited nearly 45 minutes at this point for our breakfast.We kept being told it was about ready - but then another 10 minutes would pass by. At this point the children were getting very restless with hunger and boredom (only so much colouring and activity books would keep them occupied while waiting for food). Finally the kids breakfasts arrive and we got them sorted. The adult breakfasts arrived about 5 minutes later, so we didn't even eat together. The kids were wrapping up their meals as we finally dug into ours. The adults had The Pointe breakfast (2 eggs, sausage, toast, potato and some burritos - nothing extravagant which would have required more time than anything else to prepare). So an hour after sitting down, in a restaurant that was only about 20% full, our meals arrived. My eggs were luke warm at best, and the burritos were cold. The potatoes and sausage were both of decent temperature, but perhaps that was at the sacrifice of the rest of it. So finally after 1.5 hours, we got the bill and were able to escape after paying the $120 for a half eaten burrito, and some cold eggs. At least the kids were fed. For the reputation and praise this restaurant receives, we both were extremely disappointed with our experience. This was our 3rd visit to The Pointe, and likely our last. The view is nice (if you can see it from your table), but you can simply walk down to the beach or rocks and see it without wasting your time or calories dining here.i read more
