    sun soaked goodness

The Poké Box might be my most favourite poké place ever. My most favourite box is the Sun Soaked with TPB grain blend. The box includes edamame, avocado, pumpkin seeds, salmon, kale, pea shoots, toasted coconut, seaweed salad, beet slaw, and ginger honey. It's not only flavourful but it also has lots of different textures which makes the eating experience all the better. Before the pandemic, I would ask to use my reusable container and the staff were always accommodating (I won't be doing that any longer though). I believe they have complimentary miso soup on Mondays.

    Aloha something bowl LOL

Amazingggg, fresh, kinda healthy option around Queens Park! They offer a variety of signature bowls but, you can also build your own as well. Their fish is fresh and veggies are all very fresh (except for the salad greens - a few wilty brown pieces) but could use a little bit more marinate/flavouring IMO. The amount of toppings is generous - each bite you take will definitely have some yummy stuff! Price is pretty average for a poke place.. maybe a teensy bit higher than other spots. Def recommend ordering via Ritual.. they're prepared super quick (usually faster than the estimated time) and the lunch rush tends to have a lineup at the counter.

Regular poke box with grain and salad base

Fresh, big portions, and friendly staff make this a go to regular lunch spot for those who like sushi and poke alike. The poke box was a great choice, with highlights including their subtly sweet purple grain rice and tamago chunks. I would certainly come by again and perhaps build my own box next time.

I was really excited to find out that The Poke Box was opening up close to my work. I absolutely love poke and this spot is conveniently located in the lower level of the hydro building, off to the side of the food court. It's right next to the exit of Queens Park Subway station too! They seem to have a lot of staff during peak times at lunch, and this made everything run smoothly to ensure that their customers get their box in a timely manner. I've been here 3 times and so far so good. Staff are really friendly and I really like how they have various options to choose from. You can build your own box or choose from their "signatures". I've tried their signature: "The Poke Box" (as shown in my attached photo). I thought it was quite good with big chunks of salmon and tuna! They also let me modify the sauces/flavoring too. I usually like adding Waikiki mayo, and wasabi mayo sauce. I've also tried their build your own "small" box and it's a decent portion for lunch. Cheaper than some places I've tried and probably will be my 'go to' when I order here! I think it was $10.74 for the small box with salmon after taxes. However, you're limited to only 2 mix ins and 1 topping, but I was happy to find out that you get a free extra topping for checking in on yelp! *TIP* Usually when I come here, I like to do half rice and half zucchini noodles. That way if you wanted zucchini noodles as one of your mix ins, you can save it for another item! Healthier option too ;) Con: One thing they could improve on is the quality of their rice. The rice was a bit on the al dente side so maybe it needs to be cooked a little longer? Unfortunately, after getting a poke box today my stomach was feeling a little unsettled after eating it. Not sure if maybe I had a bad batch of salmon or maybe someone didn't wash their hands? I'm hoping to give this spot another try though, because the first 2 boxes I had here were good!

Custom small salmon bowl (brown rice, mixed greens, cucumber, corn, seaweed salad, avocado, fresh ginger, fried onions, and spicy mayo)

Wow! This place is amazing! I've been looking for a go-to lunch spot near work and this is definitely going to become a regular spot for me. The bowl was delicious and the portion size is incredible for the price. The ingredients were all extremely fresh and healthy. I had a small salmon bowl. I opted for the base to be a blend of brown rice and mixed greens. I topped it off with fresh pickled ginger, seaweed salad, green onion, avocado, jalapeno, corn, cucumbers, fried onions and tons of spicy mayo. For about $10, I was very satisfied with my lunch. The staff was friendly and quick. Will be coming back for more!

Lava blaze - it's lit bowl

I LOVE poke box, but i might be bias because I love poke. Poke box is amazing, I eat there atleast once a week and order the lava blaze with half grain blend half salad. A very popular option is the big umami which consists tuna/salmon, avocado, seaweed salad, onions, crunchy krispies, etc. I personally enjoy salmon more than tuna and i often get very little salmon in big umami so I go for the lava blaze. The lava blaze/it's lit is delicious, the jalapenos make it hot though. The dried garlic for garnish is delicious, i love the combination of food and it's overall a great time. Can never go wrong with poke. As for service, I can say much because its served like a fast food restaurant - atleast i have yet any complaints! Store is really cute and aesthetic btw!

Updated review! It felt like a poke kind of day so I opted to swing by The Poke Box for lunch. The place was still busy even after their grand opening back in late 2019 which is a great sign. I took a long look at the menu while waiting in line and decided to try something different. So I ordered myself a Ruffled Up signature bowl. This is probably the only time I have seen smoked duck on a poke menu and the bowl was well designed with textures and flavours that would compliment the protein. The bowl also came with cooked shrimp, cabbage, sweet onion, and umami shiitake while topped with a savoury tamari glaze. I was wholly impressed with the heartiness and flavours of the toppings over a serving of their personal rice grain blend. The smoked duck was served as delicious gamey cubes where you can see the cross-section of skin, fat, and meat while the shrimp offered a lighter fresher balance. The cucumber dill sauce didn't really have any impact for me and I wished it had a little more punch from the dill itself. The mandarin orange slices weren't my favourite as they looked like they came from a can. Perhaps an alternative would be a nice spritzing of citrus over the bowl instead as an alternative. Overall, came away really impressed with this non-traditional poke bowl and happy to come here again. ---------------------- It felt like a poke kind of day so I opted to swing by The Poke Box for lunch. Zucchini noodles, double salmon protein. Seaweed, tomago, edamame, oranges, pea shoots, shiitake mushrooms, crispy onions, and corn.

Long Story Short: Delicious poke with many options for toppings, but on the expensive side. Long Story...Long: I come here a lot to buy a quick lunch or dinner to go. There are many options to try. I prefer half sushi rice and half zucchini noodles with double salmon protein. They have a wide variety of toppings to choose from, but adding on more can get quite expensive, even the cheap ingredients are some unwarranted extra coin. Good service, usually no line up (the place is relatively new at the time I write this review). It's more grab-n-go, although there are shared seats outside the actual store that you can use to sit down. Overall, a good visit every time! But my wallet hates me.

Big Ugami and The Poké Box
    Michelle C.

I went with a bunch of friends during their opening day promotion: buy one get one free. The sale was only on their speciality boxes. I personally got the Ugami Box: the fish was super for fresh and the combination was exactly what they said: Ugami! I got the larger box and it was definitely worth it because it was definitely two portions for me. I would say that it can be very fIlling (specially if you get it with rice). The base to fish/meat portion was good and I would say it is worth it for its price. I would definitely come back to try their duck box next time!

I decided to try this place after a few coworkers told me how great it was. Conveniently situated very close to my work, I decided to stop by Thursday afternoon and there was already a long line up! The wait was probably 10 minutes to order so it wasn't that bad. I ended up getting the large build your own bowl. I really liked how I was able to do half brown rice and half zucchini noodles as the base. For toppings, I selected corn, edamame, cabbage, avocado, crab slaw salad and seaweed salad. I decided to skip on the protein so I can't comment on how fresh the fish was. For the dressing, I chose the house shoyu and spicy aioli which complimented the meal really well. Overall, the meal came to $10.28 with tax included which is a great deal for a lunch downtown. All the ingredients were also really fresh and I really enjoyed my meal. Will definitely be back next time.

Pokito is a Hawaiian restaurant/take out joint located along Queen St. W. near Spadina Ave (close…read moreto Cameron St.). They've been a staple for poke in the area for years, however, their menu has expanded to include more Hawaiian foods like plate lunches and snacks (like onigiri and spam musubi). I recently stopped by Pokito to pick up take out for dinner as I had stumbled upon a $10 coupon from the restaurant over Facebook. Upon entering, the space is inviting and warm, with wooden accents throughout the space. There are several tables if you'd like to dine in. The menu is large and they also have daily deals as well. In the small fridge display they have a sample of their poke on display along with other items like onigiri, desserts, and drinks. Their poke bowls are likely the most popular items to be ordered but definitely don't skip out on the plate lunches as well! I opted to grab a garlic shrimp scampi plate lunch (tail-on shrimp sauteed in buttery garlic sauce on rice (can choose between white or brown rice) with mac salad and a salad slaw) for $22.50. I did have $10 off my order which was great. If you sign up for their rewards program you also get other deals as well (the next deal I get is 50% off a plate lunch for a limited time!). My order was made fresh which took about 5-10 min. I didn't mind as I just sat down to wait. Service was friendly and efficient. I had my garlic shrimp scampi plate lunch for dinner. Beware that the shrimp is really garlicy and delicious! Just be careful if you need to talk to someone afterwards because they will smell it. The rice absorbed some of that garlic flavour which made the rice even better. The mac salad was great and the salad slaw helped to cut through everything as well. Portions were large and I was full afterwards. Overall, a great place for Hawaiian plate lunches (and I'm sure poke as well!) in the Queen/Spadina area. Definitely will return to try more of their plate lunches as well as poke.

I had the spicy garlic ahi and the original ahi, and the tuna was so fresh I half expected it to still be swimming. It melted in my fat little mouth like it was apologizing for every bad life choice I've ever made. This honestly rivaled poke I've had in Honolulu, which is terrifying because that means I no longer need Hawaii--I can now die broke and mercury-riddled right here at home. The spicy ahi hits hard too. Caucasians, if you've ever cried during a Taco Bell mild sauce packet, you should probably update your life insurance before ordering. My only critique? More sides and toppings. If I'm going to spiral into heavy-metal toxicity, I want to do it with reckless abandon and at least three different crunchy things sprinkled on top. Still, this place is so good I'd happily shave a few years off my life expectancy for another bowl. Who needs retirement when you've got poke like this?

I changed things up and visited the food court at Atrium on Bay. It was nice seeing several stalls open at around 4:30 pm. It was a toss-up choice between My Sushi or Fusia Asian Kitchen. I looked at the former's menu and liked what I saw. An early dinner from My Sushi, it was! You can get a bunch of sushi rolls. There were many options. I took one look at the poke menu and knew I needed a bowl. I got a regular. You can also do a large. A Chinese couple owns this business. The man took my order. The woman prepared my bowl. The man was helpful and nice. He said that I could do rice or salad, or half of each, if I liked. I went with salad. For the sauce, I chose teriyaki. I also got a Diet Coke. I waited patiently for my food. It didn't take too long. The woman asked if I needed a plastic bag. I waived it off, as I was going to rip open and devour my food at the food court. I cracked open my can of Diet Coke. It was cold and hit the spot. I loved my poke bowl. The salmon was fresh and yummy. The mandarin oranges were a nice twist. They brightened this bowl significantly. There were crispy green bits that I enjoyed, but I didn't know what I ate... lol The greens are iceberg lettuce. I would have liked mixed greens, but the crisp lettuce worked out surprisingly nicely. The half-avocado's presentation was amazing. It was cubed and fanned out. This find was awesome! I would love to return for more. The regular-sized poke bowl was perfect. Down the road, I can see my getting a large. Perhaps I'll try the sashimi next. I love sashimi! (197)
