I had the pleasure of attending a Pilates Reformer class with Mary at The Posture Bar as a part of the Yelp Fit Club. What an awesome experience! This cozy studio off Farmington Ave. has everything you need for a great workout. This class was my first time doing pilates with the reformer machine, and Mary was sure to explain everything and help us perfect our form. She was so calming and knowledgeable; you can tell she is passionate about her job and her clients. The workout was much more difficult than I thought it would be-in a good way! Of course Mary makes all the moves look so easy, but I could definitely feel it in my legs and thighs the next morning. Even through a short, introductory session, I could see how regularly attending classes like this would help get that toned look. Drop-ins are $35, but there is a 3 for $20 deal going on now. Mary is also Barre certified, so I am looking forward to trying one of those classes, too! read more

A visit to The Posture Bar was the perfect way to start the weekend! When I saw the Yelp Fit Club was offering classes I jumped on the RSVP's immediately and Mary didn't disappoint. She had a sunny disposition and clearly loves teaching and is invested in the health of her clients. We started with learning all the basics of the reformer and perfecting our form. It was such a smooth machine and a heck of a good workout! We worked a lot on activating our core, inner & outer thighs and glutes. Under Mary's guidance we focused on breathing techniques to get the most out of each position. I had a great time in the sunny little studio which is located only a couple minutes off 84! I have been a client of The Posture Bar for a few months now and have no intention of stopping! The classes Mary teaches are outstanding, she is both knowledgable and kind. You can tell her love and passion of pilates as it comes through each and every time she teaches. Everything she does is to better her students. This morning I had the pleasure of attending one of Yelp's Fit Club workout classes at The Posture Bar. The place is super cute and tucked away right near Truffles and easy to get to as it's right on Rt. 4. The space has 6 Pilates machines and it feels like you are getting your own personal Pilates instructor all to yourself! Mary was awesome -super patient and really knows how to make you feel comfortable! This class works muscles you probably didn't even know you had! I feel longer and leaner and only went to one class - imagine how I'll look and feel after a couple more classes!? I can't wait to go back! After trying my first Barre class in Portland OR and loving it, I began my search for one in Ct and it literally seemed to not exist on the East. However, I found a class via Groupon and gave it a try. I enjoyed the class, even though it was way more cardio and non barre than the Portland venue. I bought a 10 pack of classes with every intention of going every Saturday and during the weeknights. Well the classes during the weeknights start at 630p which is great if you live close but coming from Hartford during rush hour, it's just not something you want to do. Also the classes fill up quickly so if you have a hectic schedule and have to wait until the week of to decide..you wont get in. Saturdays were better but it's such a small studio. Anymore than 6 plus the instructor is crowded. I managed to use 4 out of my 10 in 3 months (you have 3 months to use it) and had to forfeit 6 of my classes. I would have been better off with $15 a class. Instead I paid $150 to take 4 classes. :( Oh well. read more

As a former fitness instructor (I taught classes for 30 years) I am very picky about instructors. Mary's classes at The Posture Bar are the best I have ever experienced. She works you consistently and hard. In her energetic and smooth way she gets you to do more than you ever thought you could. Her classes are intense yet safe. I get a full body workout. I cannot say enough great things about Mary and her reformer and reformer/barre/mat combo classes. Mary is such a knowledgeable and insightful instructor. Not only does she cue exercises that make even newbies at the reformer feel comfortable, she can tell just exactly how you need to alter movements based on your body type- giving you the best possible workout. Mary's experience is second to none. And the studio is so cute and cozy! Because the classes are no more than 6 people, you receive a lot of personal attention.
