I want my entire house to look like The Potting Shed. It's so cute what with all the glittery decorations, vintage looking pieces, and shabby chic touches here and there. Not to mention the big stacks of retro candy in the center of the shop. I'd set those up in the living room. Arm's length from the couch. It's set up by theme which makes browsing easy--Christmas decorations (for your glittery pink deer needs 365 days a year), gardening decor, 4th of July figurines, birthday schwag, teacups/plates, lavender--both the flower and the color, baking goods, paper, lotions/body care, etc. I could easily spend over and hour here and still not feel like I managed to see everything. And the handbags! And the hats! Oh the hats! It makes me want to be a vintage hat person. When I make the plunge into that territory that's where I will go to stock up on them. Upstairs is the most delightful shop for kids and babies. Adorable outfits and super cute toys for the kiddos in your life. But be advised--there's rarely anyone up there. So if you have a question, hunker back downstairs. My only complaint? It's a little pricey. Most shops like this are but I feel like this one might be a couple of bucks more on each item than you'd find elsewhere. But once you walk in you'll be so mesmerized by the selection and loveliness that you won't care. read more

I adore this shop - for a perfect Sunday go get brunch at Common Grill, then walk over to Potting Shed right around the corner (PS's sister-shop is almost right next to Common Grill, and has some really cute, fun jewelry...but I digress!) PS has everything you don't need, and everything you want: - Trapp candles, vintage aprons, snarky, man-friendly, and/or vintage-chic calendars. - beaded jewelry, fairies for the lawn, holiday cards and glittering ornaments. - Cloche' and flowered garden hats, kitty soap-dishes, pixie-dust, UofM swag. - Soaps, gift-tins, goofy socks and fuzzy slippers. Happened to mosey in here one Sunday afternoon after grabbing a quick bite a few doors down and what a pleasant surprise it was! All sorts of little knick knacks, kitsch, and cutesy decor to suit your fancy! Everything from holiday decor, scented candles and lotions, antiques, toys, kids clothing, and lawn and garden pieces. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Bought 6 strawberry plants here for $8. They have a cute little outdoor garden section with flowers and herbs and plants. Inside it's easy to get lost in. There's bath and body items and cute magnets. Neat pictures for sale. Great smelling candles. The cashier was friendly and really patient with the elderly woman purchasing a bunch of stuff. J'dore The Potting Shed!! I adore this quaint shop! It is filled with things I love! Delicate dishes and teacups, teas, clothing, hats, chandeliers, lavender, nostalgia, lotions, and things that sparkle! They specialize in French adornments for your person and home. The only thing I find they lack are toile and damask prints to wear or for decorating your home. They have expanded since their move and I must tell you, their 2008 Christmas selections were amazing! They have moved across the street to the beautiful brick building with the bell atop. read more

This place has an amazing selection of cute stuff, and lots of great vintage doo-dads. A great place to shop for Christmas decorations...or any decorations. But I really wish it didn't smell like a herd of perfumed old ladies- it's downright strong, and I can't stay in there too long without getting a headache. But there's enough fun stuff that I suck it up anyway, and just make it quick. Don't miss the pomegranate gummies, they are reeeeaallly good. read more

This is the cutest shop! The upstairs is a little baby boutique, and whoever does their buying has a great eye. It's my new go-to place for baby gifts. The only inconvenience is that it is not wheelchair/stroller friendly. Other than that, it is shopping heaven. Reasonable prices, unique and beautiful goods. Nice owners. read more

They have everything that you won't find anywhere else and are very accommodating. Because of another review, I called and made arrangements for my girlfriend, who just moved to Chelsea, to pick up a gift certificate. I spoke with the owner, Bonnie, who was VERY nice and helpful. When my friend went in she was impressed with the place and thrilled with her gift. I HAD to see the place when I flew in for Christmas and ended up buying several gifts and thing for myself. She also has another store across the street that carries clothing "Cut Loose Clothing". Be sure and stop there also. I did and found more treasures. read more

Prices are upscale, but it's kitschy and they always have heavenly smelling soaps and balms and this music- just old timey french songs playing in the background. Love the atmosphere. Great place to browse and ooh and aaah! read more

I don't feel as if I need to go into much detail since the other reviewers have done such a great job of that. I do want to echo their kudos though. This place is awesome! I was in Chelsea for just one night and part of the next day. I decided to hit some shops before I left. As soon as I walked in to The Potting Shed I knew that I would be spending a lot of time there and would have no time - or desire - to go elsewhere. The woman working there at the time was extremely helpful; I also really enjoyed talking to her. (She was a cat person like myself!) The store is so big with such a large selection that I just kept picking up things so I wouldn't forget about them. When I finally finished looking around - probably an hour and a half later - I reevaluated what I had and put a few things back. I had such fun unpacking my bag from the Potting Shed once I got home and I love everything I bought. My only complaint about The Potting Shed is that they have so much great stuff you can't get out of there without spending a lot of money! read more
