I was out celebrating Independent Bookstore Day, so I made a stop at The Printed Garden. Most of the independent bookstores in the valley are further north, so it was nice to have something in the south side representing. This one is located in Union Square, a rather geriatric shopping district that appears pretty run down, but is home to several local shops. Pretty it isn't, but it must be doing something right, because there are always folks in the parking lot. And during my visit, several of them were in this store too. Anyway, back to the bookstore. It's modest in size, but had a good amount of books. It strikes me as of a more of a place where you call and talk to the owner to help track down a very specific book than a store that you might just want to browse for fun. The layout and design of the store is slightly lacking in appeal and creativity. That said, not everyone wants to browse through shelves of books or attractive displays. Sometimes you know just what you want and need someone like the folks at The Printed Garden who can locate it for you. And I'll bet they would be happy to do that.

Aaron is very friendly and knows every book in his store, He found me the perfect Bible that I was looking for in my favorite color purple at a great price and value that I could not pass up and had to purchase. I spent hours there and even did a live broadcast to Facebook.

The store was nothing like its website description. Unorganized and dusty, I will not return.

This location of Deseret Book has books, gifts, and a pretty large section of children's items. The…read moredownstairs area is very large, and if you try to go in the back door of the store to avoid all of the parking craziness at the front-beware, as the back door is locked. Upstairs are two different areas-including a fabric store which has a ton of fun fabrics for you to choose from. These are not the same fabrics you will find at Jo-Ann's or anywhere else that sells fabric. The other business upstairs is a framing shop, that has mostly religious pictures-both original and prints for sale. They will also frame anything else that you bring in and did not purchase here. The two women upstairs were very friendly and welcoming, and made me feel like an old friend. If you are looking for a gift, there are plenty of options, and even non-denominational gifts for people of all ages. Plus, the store is such a peaceful place to just browse.

What the what?? How did I miss a full on fabric store inside of Deseret Book? A FABRIC STORE?…read more So, I was in the neighborhood and popped in. Maybe it was just to smell the rolls. But I looked up to the second floor and could have sworn I saw bolts of fabric lining the walls. But this is Deseret Book, right? Up the stairs I go, and sure enough that place is packed with fabric. Maybe technically the thing is a Mormon Handicraft, but there it is under the same roof so I'm calling it part of Deseret Book for now. Here's the low down on the fabric: it's really cute. Like, super darling, adorbs, and totally quiltworthy. Polka dots like crazy, paisley, stripes, and lots of flowery darling things.
