Wow, wow, wow. I was completely blown away by this bookstore. From the outside it looks like an old car shop, but once you walk in, it opens into a whole new world. Every section feels thoughtfully curated into vintage, used, new, special editions. There is truly something for everyone. I instantly fell in love. Marissa's sells a combination of new and used books across many genres for all ages. This bookstore has one of the best selections of books in Utah. The staff are always kind, friendly, and helpful. One of my favorite things about Marissa's is that their nonfiction sections are not dominated by religious literature, which is refreshing. Walking into Marissa's Bookstore I am reminded of how unique and comforting it is to walk into such great vibes for all things books. You can easily end up spending over an hour here reading in the small nooks and curated spaces or exploring new books and themes you forgot about or just getting exposed to. There are so many books here that I would be shocked if you end up not finding the book you are looking for or a topic that interests you. Everything is so beautifully listed by genre and sometimes author too. My favorite part about Marissa's was that at every single turn you would be faced with another set of shelves filled with books. There was a small, downstairs area, where there were very large paintings and super thick and heavy books where it almost made me feel like I was put back into the early 1900's! I was seriously impressed with how unique every small decorative reading area and shelf was carefully curated. Service was fantastic as in that we were asked several times if we needed help or looking for something specific. We were offered help and smiles as we continued to explore each shelf. The children's section is exceptional as well. I could see kiddos just having a good time sitting and reading or exploring the books themselves. You can tell, in the way the store is setup, that the staff here were thinking of little readers too. Kiddos can reach and browse books all on their own as they are all the perfect height to do so. read more

We were from out of town and saw this cute store so we had to stop. The owner greeted us at the door and warmly welcomed us to her store. The store was large with several nooks and crannies. The prices are mid to high. Not really a bargain store but if there is a book you are looking for, you'll most likely find it here. This place is amazing! It is enormous and had so many different interesting sections and spots comfy couches and chairs and beautiful nooks to curl up in. The room full of vintage books was like coming across a magical secret space where you could get lost for hours. I wanted to look at everything but just didn't have time. I love that they have a mix of new, used, and vintage books. I came home with some of each plus a few puzzles. This would be a great place to buy gifts. What an awesome store! read more

Marissa's Books is a hidden gem in Millcreek, located at the southwest corner of 3300 So and 900 E. It's a new and gently used locally owned bookstore. Expect to find anything and everything -- they have every genre. If you can't find what you're looking for, they'll check their warehouse and do their best to track it down & order it in for you. Stellar customer service. As you browse the facility, you'll find yourself gazing at all the eclectic artwork and artifacts that the owners have curated over time. It's awesome. The ambiance is just fascinating to me, and I find it hard to believe this bookstore is the same building that once used to sell tires!? It's absolutely mind blowing how well it's been transformed into a cozy, comfy place for people to gather and read. The day I popped in, they were featuring a local author and her newest work. I thought that was really neat, and stopped at her table to inquire. Good conversation, polite and courteous staff. Highly recommend! read more

I really like the store and I love helping a small business owner. The problem is that they are well above market value on most of these used product. Books that should be $10-15 are marked at $20-30. Books that are $3 at other stores are $8. They have a pencil system on the front page. Ok. If you are writing in a book I might potentially buy that is not ideal. You will find rare books but you will pay the most I have seen for them, and condition isn't even on their radar. Oh the do have a book person who will greet you and all kinds of cool events. New books are fairly priced if not bargains. read more

Holy Cow!!! What a treasure this place is. Comfortable little corners to sit and read. So many books - new and used - that I thought I was in a real library! The people are helpful, friendly and gracious. The prices are fair and books are well organized! The serendipity of the experience is that from the outside it looks like a closed up tire shop then you open the door and it opens up like stepping in an old English book store from chronicles of Narnia! One should not give in Sat Lake for very long without experiencing this wonderfully appointed bookshop. and c"come on" - let's support local efforts. I am a huge reader, and it is hard to find a good book store, let alone any book store. Marissa's book store is amazing, they have some really good books, and the staff are amazing, and very friendly. They have both new and used books, and there is so much room to just relax and chill and read or look. You should explore the entire store, you will find so much good stuff, and you may even make some good friends, I made a few friends while coming here buying books. This is the cutest, most secret looking amazing book store ever!!! It looks like a pawnshop on the outside and small. And then you go inside and it's massive, like a giant, winding library. Cool art and decor, a spot to play chess. Good deals on used books too and a legit repeat customer savings program. read more

This shop is such a lovely secret. Living in Utah my whole life, it took an embarrassing amount of time for me to discover this place. I was searching for a particular board book that only this shop had. I got my son a ton of awesome kids books for a great deal. They have a good selection of bargain books in all genres. The online search and checkout process was super easy too, and they offer curbside local pickup. I will definitely be checking this place out again in the future. Update: The $2 kid book section is a permanent thing! So awesome. They are always willing to show you around too. I recommend doing that. I'm always surprised by what they have, so it would be nice to see it all and make sure you don't miss anything! This store is full of new and used books. We need more book stores these days, so I will continue to shop here. There are tons of books and the set up is nice. I am spoiled when it comes to used books, and am used to paying thrift store prices, but you don't always get a good selection and the books are hit and miss as far as condition goes. Here, you pay a little more, but you get good quality books and a bigger variety. And, if you're looking for a specific book, you'll probably find it. If not used, then among the new books, which are great prices. They also do great deals! I happened to stop by during $2 kids books and found some treasures! Brand new hard back books, some I had been looking for, but not wanting to spend $20 on. I was glad to get them for 1/10th of the price! read more

The old place was cool, but this new place is better. It's a touch better organized and the feel is instantly relaxing and comfortable. There is so much to take in, this needs many, many repeat visits to get it all. I was pretty amazed that the incredibly wonderful cashier, who stopped by to check on me quite a bit, was able to keep track of it all. It was near dizzying, in fact, and definitely something I'm going to need to hit again when I have a bit more time to take it all in. Just spectacular. read more

My sister and I stumbled upon this little gem and just had to go inside. She has a wonderful selection here of both new and used books. They are fairly priced and I managed to find a gently used biography that I had been looking for for a very low price. Her selection is quite extensive and everything is very well organized. I also appreciated the measures that were taken to offset some of the risk of COVID. The people that worked there wore masks and it was evident that things were being cleaned / disinfected regularly. I love supporting small local bookstores like this, especially the ones that seem to genuinely care about their customers, which this one does. Each trip I have made to Marissa's has been a pleasant one. I will occasionally buy a book that stands out to me, but I also just enjoy browsing for a while even if I don't find anything. It seemed a bit unorganized at first but it has been getting better and easier to understand the layout. The employees are also super friendly and happy to help you locate a book or make suggestions based on your preferences. As for pricing, I would say that all of the nicer/classics/rarer books are very fairly priced, but the lower end/regular books seem a bit overpriced to me. $6 was about the lowest I could find for most of the books I looked at. Overall a great shop and definitely worth stopping into if you're looking for a new book to read. read more

Love this place! So friendly and instantly helpful. My kiddos have multiple kid series they read, but it's expensive to buy them new. They have some great used books at great prices and make it very accessible to expand your home library for your kiddos. In from New York to go hiking with friends, and was pleasantly surprised by this bookstore. I'm used to great bookstores on the east coast, and this shop had all the offerings. I loved the selection of really interesting and unique titles--rare and off the wall kinds of stuff that you could browse through for hours. I also liked the spiritual and self help sections, which were well stocked with popular classics and new stuff I had never even heard of before. On my way out, Wendy was really helpful in guiding me through the great Sci-Fi section for some fun reading for the car ride. Any book lover must stop in. read more

What a gem! Tons of books. It was disorganized when we went, but to be fair they were in the process of moving to another location. Still, it was fun to look around the whole store, a little bit like a treasure hunt. There are some classical books that are bound beautifully. Some of the books are not in amazing condition, but some are, and all the books are definitely in readable condition. The prices are good. You can even find books in like-new condition for cheaper than they normally would be. There are also vintage children's books, which is really neat. There's a HUGE variety of books, especially for the size of the store. You are almost guaranteed to find a book you'll want to buy at a good price. The woman in the store was very nice and helpful. It is such a pleasant place to be and Marie was so helpful and darling with my curious 5 year old (not a common experience in a small shop.) We found some fun new treasures, they have a great collection of vintage and leather bound books and the prices are great. Each time I have been in Marissa's books I have had a good experience. I have found many treasure while browsing for the title I pursued. When I have been in a rush, I have called ahead, and they have pulled the copies of the title I was looking for and had them waiting for my arrival. When they didn't have the book I was looking for, the owner went out of her way to locate a copy and had it brought into the store for me. The personal touch and customer service that goes beyond the norm has made me a dedicated customer. read more

I've been shopping at this store since it opened, a couple years ago. The organization and quality continues to improve. The employees are friendly and helpful. Occasionally, I have found amazing deals on rare books. I especially like how there are vintage paperbacks out on old spinner racks. The science fiction selection rivals or exceeds any other bookshop in the Salt Lake Valley. If you spend enough time browsing, you'll likely find something that you want. As far as I can tell, this is strictly a used bookshop, so you'll have to go elsewhere if you are looking for anything hot off the presses. read more
