This is a huge store, very fun to walk through and dream. I kept seeing things in the multiple thousand dollar range and kept being hopeful that I could afford something, but this store has things I guess I don't even understand the value of because I couldn't even see anything under $300. Hands-down the highest quality consignment store I've seen anywhere. But if you're looking for a garage sale environment, this is not your place. Merchandise is not accepted unless it's flawless and unique. I love bargains and you definitely find them here, but my motivation with this store is more about quality. We have bought many items from this shop. Great stuff. Staff has been consistently helpful on at least six visits. On a few occasions we asked for a lower price, in all instances Sally check with the consignor, some moved. Some didn't. Why do almost all of the negative reviews seem to be by thin skinned folks who need to be coddled? Nothing about offerings, quality, etc. stop whining when someone doesn't kiss your tush. You are free to go elsewhere and those people will likely not measure up either. Five stars. read more

My grandparents made a recent purchase of a gloss art print a long with other items needed for their casita. The lady who helped them was named Monica and she was very kind and patient with them. Only reason I'm being generous is the staff are great. We were there in January and saw some pieces we liked. Happened to be back in town two months later and with a u haul so stopped in again. Same pieces were there...same price. We asked about a reduction if we purchased several pieces...a 10 percent reduction. The owner responded so rudely to our request, I wish I had video taped her. Basically I am telling yelpers that we probably would have bought the pieces if she had just said, "I can't go any lower." I mean we are here with a u haul so we could have saved that cost in delivery alone. But I am sharing she was awful. We won't go back. If you're looking for consignments go to Misty's. This is by far the best consignment shop in the Coachella Valley for art/furniture. Everything is staged properly, cleaned, refinished and the staff is quite nice and extremely helpful and knowledgeable. As I read through the various reviews, I was saddened by the 2 written by Gevo and Karo! I was in the store at the time this took place, and these gentlemen, visiting from out of the area and not regular customers, made an offer on an item (very low offer) and were told it wasn't available at that price. As they walked thru the shop and return to the front, the item they were obviously very interested in, had been purchased at full price by a regular customer of The Private Collection. These gentlemen became irate, and abusive to both the sales person and the owner. They were treated with the utmost professionalism and I have never received anything less by Sally and Mathew. read more

Stumbled on this place while wandering on El Paseo. Impressive array of different quality pieces & furniture in superb condition. This is not an inexpensive place, but you will find amazing deals on things that normally costs several hundred/thousand dollars more if purchased at retail. I am extremely impressed with the Private Collection gallery and how informed each employee is. There are 2 showrooms. I went into the 1st one and saw a young man at the counter. I inquired about my Asian furniture pieces and he was immediately able to tell me that one just sold the day before. He then instructed me to go into the other showroom and get paid! Huh????? Amazing! Went to the other counter and found the lady who handles payments and I immediately walk out with my money! Then 2 days later, I got a check in the mail for another piece that must have just sold. INCREDIBLE! I have had some experience with Consignment shops that require frequent inquiries in person to see if anything sold. They like to hang on to your money as long as possible. For one thing, they don't take in junk, only quality pieces and they are fair and accurate with their pricing -- which is why you will often see the top local designers there looking to see what has been brought in off the trucks. (You never really know what you'll find too, but this last time there were some exquisite oil paintings and rare Persian rugs). Also, I would be remiss if I didn't add that the staff is extremely knowledgable and helpful and the owner Sally is as honest and caring as the day is long. This place has nice stuff but my problem is they are playing Jesus music throughout the store. I can support inspirational music but this type of creepy fundamentalist stuff just makes me uncomfortable. I think if you want to make a diverse clientele feel comfortable, this type of music is just not acceptable. I won't shop here again. read more

They have nice items and a lot of inventory. I found an item I really liked, but the price as a little high for a used piece so I asked an associate for her best price. The apparent owner rudely cut off her employee to tell me her best price was even more than the price on the sticker. No thanks. Walked out. RUDE. Previous owners were much nicer and had some great deals. Owner needs to learn some customer service and business etiquette. read more

I had never consigned with a consignment store before my experience with Sally and her staff. We moved into a new house that had furniture which was not my style. Nice furniture, but just not me. I had been in Sally's store before and was always impressed with how neat, clean and organized it was, quite unlike most of my experiences with other consignment stores. I called Sally about the furniture, sent her pictures, and she called me right away to tell me she was interested. She came to the house, surveyed the furniture I wanted consigned and told me what she felt she could sell and what was just not for her clients. And she seemed to understand her clientele's needs and wants. Well, within a month, she had sold over 95 percent of the items. When I received my check, all items were itemized, including her charge, my percentage and a detailed description of what was sold. I can't imagine a more professional operation.
