Northern VA schools were by and large good, and known entities to my wife and I, having lived in the area for years. Friends of ours had a daughter who did after-school work at C2, which eventually led us to reaching out for SAT prep - something neither of us did. Miss Jessica deserves kudos for the effort she puts out to go the extra mile. I wish some of the school counselors, and definitely some of the teachers we have dealt with would take the same level of concern she did. I guess you get what you pay for, sad to say. Any time my wife had an issue, she seemed to step up and help. She's the one you want to deal with. They don't let you talk to the teachers, but we still got reports on classroom activity (it's three students at a table, not one on one), and despite not meeting them, Shawn had a good rep, and Ted always seemed helpful. We liked the idea of combining with other driven students, as sometimes our child can take a little extra motivation. SAT score went up, grades went up, happy parents, happy student. Overall, we're happy enough that we'll be looking here for after-school tutoring as well. We hope there's another Miss Jessica to make us feel at home again!

He attended C2 on and off as needed until he graduated from high school. My 2 girls are currently in high school and use C2 on and off when needed as well. Before she tutored me, I tried using Kaplan services. They were ok, but they did not have a personalized tutoring approach like Emma did. Emma's study tips, organization, and understanding of concepts is what separated her from the Kaplan tutors. Through my time with Kaplan, my verbal score only improved by 5 points, but with Emma, my score further improved by an additional 6 points! I was already confident in my quant skills, but even there Emma helped me increase my score by the few crucial points that separate top tier schools. I am confident that I gained a great amount of knowledge from working with Emma, even though it was not reflected in my final score. Lado International Institute relies on the reputation of its founder, Dr. Lado. Trouble is, he…read moredied long ago and they are still using the same 40 year old "Lado Method". The lies start with its name: It is not "international". They don't really teach the English language. Their technique is to practice in class. But you could do that on the street even better, as long as you were with someone to correct your mistakes. In fact, the instructors at LADO don't do that - they just mark you wrong on tests and never tell you why. They have no syllabus or course plan, just a series of "sessions" that you supposedly advance through. But every "session" is just like the one before it. The only difference between "session 1" and "session 12" is the experience of the students. When they show you costs, it is for one 4-week "session" and doesn't include the mandatory "text" - looseleaf copies of the materials they have used for decades. The actual cost is more than $1000 for each 4 weeks, and to that you must add living expenses.
