I celebrated my boyfriend birthday at the Graduate Hilton Hotel. We could hear the live music across the street. We decided to check out the ice rink. The ice rink was packed with ice skaters enjoying the live DJ. I danced from the side. They also had food trucks and hot drinks for purchase.The day we left they had go- carts on the ice rink. During late December to early March, weather-permitting, ice skating and bumper cars are available for reservations at The Providence Rink. Ice Skating is daily from 10:00AM-10:00PM, shared ice bumper cars is Monday-Thursday 4:00PM-8:00PM and Friday-Sunday: 10:00AM-2:00PM, and full ice bumper cars Saturday-Sunday: 9:00AM-10:00AM. Since I do not know how to properly and do not like to ice skate, bumper cars on ice was definitely something I wanted to try. I took a look at the website: https://theprovidencerink.com to see which date and time reservations were available. Unfortunately, the weekend and the following weekend was completely booked and I called to confirm advance online reservations were needed. The staff member who answered the phone was very friendly and answered yes, online reservation is the best way to confirm a spot. I was able to secure a Shared-Bumper Car on January 08, 2025 from 4:40 PM to 5:00 PM. Tickets were $26.00 (2 at $13.00 each) prior to tax. The online reservation system was very easy to use. After reserving, I received a confirmation email. On the day of my reservation, I checked in at the ticket window and provided my name and session time. I received an admission ticket and waiver (sticker) and stuck it on the outside of my jacket. We approached the staff member who went through some instructions like how to get into and out of the bumper cars, how to use the joysticks to drive the bump cars, the limit of where to go with the bumper cars (red line), and timing. After a few minutes of riding the bumper cars, you definitely get the hang of it. During my session, there were a total of 6 bumper cars so you may bump into strangers. It was really fun experience to bump into others or just spin around. The staff member informed us we had 1 minute remaining so we headed back to where we started. Time went by so quickly. Once we safely exited the bumper cars, we properly disposed our admission tickets by sticking it onto a figure. Don't delay and book your reservations to The Providence Rink. It's such a great downtown activity! Dress warmly and bundle up. read more

This was my first time ice skating so, I was very excited AND nervous. I felt like I had knives on my feet and was a moving super weapon against all other skaters. (I know I did not but, that was my nerves thinking). My partner and I reserved a 2pm spot and parked at the mall. Walked a couple minutes and were there. Yay! The easy part. Although, we couldn't find anyone to help us. Ended up asking an instructor, who directed us towards "reservations". I guess that's where you go if you purchase them online. Rented our skates and headed toward the ice. Mind you, I'm already weirded out with my foot knives and there's a rather significant bump when entering/exiting the rink. Almost fell right away because it's a rather small entrance as well. Maybe I'm old but, these scooters to help people ice skate are very odd to me. The rink was already rather full and the mix of experienced skaters with a variety of "helpers" (scooters, plastic penguin and snowman) were causing total chaos. The instructors had to teach around people falling left and right because they had to avoid a plastic penguin flying at them. Over all, I eventually got used to the skates and am excited to try again. Hesitant to go back, but maybe late at night will be less crowded? I do like they're open late in the evening. read more

Need something to do on a Tuesday night? Stop by and jump in the bumper cars ON ICE!! Call ahead and make a reservation (who wants to wait in the cold?) $12 for 20 minutes. At night the bumper cars do illuminate and beep when you have 30 seconds left. It was really easy to check in. Be prepared to sign a waiver and get a little debriefing on how to use the bumper car- very simple. We were told it was like driving a tank- do you have that experience? We didn't but we survived anyway! We had a reservation for 10pm so we would have open ice. Before that you do only have a small area to glide around as you have to share with the ice skaters. So we were told don't go past the cones but then the cones were removed, they didn't tell us any different so we decided to take full advantage of being all over the rink! We were on a 2nd date and it was fun! We had the ice to ourselves on a beautiful night. We raced, spun around in circles and just laughed! We had a great time! Check it out. read more

*Bumper Car review only* As a visitor to Providence, I wanted to explore things that I couldn't normally do in NY. When I saw the video of the bumper cars on ice, I knew I wanted to try it. This bumper car feature is definitely a unique experience. So, I called in for a reservation for 5 people, found out that all the tickets after 10pm were sold out, managed to snag 9PM tickets. After meeting up with the group, we ended up getting there at 9 (due to the fact that we were making rounds for street parking). They say to get there 20 minutes earlier to sign the waiver and listen for the orientation instructions. But honestly, that all took less than 10 minutes. When everything was done, we got on the bumper cars. Since we reserved our ticket at 9pm, we only got a cut off section of the rink for bumper cars [After 10pm, bumper cars get the whole rink]. Since it was a smaller space, I definitely found ourselves bumping into each other more. That would be the pro of a smaller space, I guess. With the time limit of 20 minutes, time flew by. It is very fun and everyone that I invited had no regrets paying $12 for 20 minutes. It was worth the unique/fun experience that we had. read more

This is a magical place to be in the winter time when it doesn't rain or snow, where you get to enjoy or forget about the cold. Being able to ice skate outdoors with the music on, surrounded by other excited people, is a joyous and thrilling experience. Public restrooms are available. All-day Public Skating hours at reasonable prices--$4 for ages 12 and under, $7 for adults. Helmets available to use for free, which I highly recommend to avoid brain injuries. Cute skating aids are also available for beginners at $11--snowmen for adults, penguins for children. Subway restaurant is on location for convenience. There's also a kiosk called North Bakery just a few steps behind Subway offering the best hot cocoa and fresh baked cookies in the area. So many wonderful memories here. We can here specifically to try the Ice Bumper Cars which were so fun-- I would recommend it to anyone. The reservation and check in process was easy- just call agreed, pick a time, and when you arrive there is a heated waiting room where you sign a quick waiver . I would recommend coming during the full ice rink times. If we had to share half the rink with ice skaters, that would have taken away some of the the fun for sure and made it too crowded. The cars are really easy to operate and have pretty good speed, especially when spinning! You will be laughing and crashing the whole session! read more

Bumper car review here. Yes, we were sucked in by the Facebook videos. Anywho... I had pretty low expectations going in and ended up having a lot of fun! Before you start, you have to sign a waiver and they give you a short tutorial. Like other Yelpers said, this doesn't take too long. Then they help you get into the car and off you go! The cars were easy to control, takes a few minutes to get the hang of it. It was hard to go straight, but I think that adds to the fun. It doesn't go very fast and the bump is a little jolt. There were 10 bumper cars in our group and there was plenty of room in the rink. For $12, price is reasonable. I wish the ride was longer and the hours weren't so late. Overall it was lots of fun bumping into everyone! read more

*Note: This is a review of the rink as a summer event space. I have yet to go in the wintertime.* Smack dab in the middle of Providence is an ice rink. Naturally, it's not going to get a lot of attention in the summer months, which is why they've smartly turned it into an event space as well. I attended a large scale Yelp event for about 400-500 people. I have to say, this makes a perfect outdoor space for a large group of people. It's surrounded by beautiful buildings. It's well-lit and lined with speakers, making it east to dance to the music and see what you're doing well after nightfall. It has a couple power outlets, which believe me is always important for event planners when considering "raw spaces." The gates up front work nicely in controlling crowds as they enter. I forget the name of the lady in charge down there, but she was beyond nice and patient with the mob of people who came down. Half of working with a venue is how you get along with those who run/own it, and this woman was an absolute pleasure. read more

RIP Fleet - this is the "Bank of America City Center" now A few laps around this awesome rink always reminds me how much I love Providence. If the cheery snowflake lights, cheesy pop music, backdrop of cool PVD surrounding landmark buildings, and working up a little sweat in the cold air doesn't chase your winter blahs if even for an hour - you are hopeless! Get out of New England and move to Florida! I notice the Zamboni to be predictably diligent contrary to other reviews. Mornings, afternoons, nights - the only time I've felt it to be too crowded was Bright Night New Years Eve. I love the diverse cross section of people that come out to get their skate on, and I really love how it's a part of Downcity - that you don't need to pay to skate to hang out or pass by and watch. You can get on their email list and there's always a $2 off rental coupon at the footer. I'm happier since I just bought some cheap skates at Bob's to avoid the process, torn laces, etc., even thought I only go a few times a year. A couple of heads-ups... yes, do watch out for those three-year-old-hellions-on-ice and know they will dominate and shoot pucks between your legs after the P-Bruins open practice sessions. If you want to rent a locker (cheap. $1 or something) you have to pay AT THE FRONT, not in the actual locker room. Happy skating! read more

The girl issuing the rental skates was cocky and unhelpful. I will go as far to say that she was rude. I think she thought she was being cute and maybe that works in the movies, but she was someone that could use some customer service scripting! Abner was ready to really let her have it, after he got a sarcastic remark from her when he mentioned the poor quality of skates were that they are renting. Dear Roller Skate Rental Counter Girl: When a paying customer tells you a complaint, you do the best to resolve it and make it right. Apologizing for the inconvenience is part of that conversation. I guess handling strange stinky shoes and skates all night makes you a little short by the end of the night. But, I digress.... Since I had my own skates and Abner had to rent his, cranky pants rental girl would not let me store my shoes with his. So, she said we had to walk all the way back to the entrance to pay for a $2.00 locker and then walk back. There was no way I was doing that and plunked my shoes under a bush. Worked fine for me. I think I made the mistake of going on a Saturday night. It was very crowded and the ice was not in the best condition (or not in the condition that I'm used to with my local ice rink). So, we didn't stay long at all. Just as we were leaving though, they cleared the ice and the Zamboni was coming out, so maybe we just got there at a bad time. In less than an hour, we had enough and went to McCormick & Schmitts across the street for hot drinks and dessert (but that's another Yelp review). I can see how skating here could be fun, with being in the middle of the city, but I think I'm going to stick to my local rink in the future. At least I know I can count on ice in good condition and friendly staff. read more

There's room for improvement here. We came for bumper cars on ice which pretty much sells itself. So you pay $12, sign a waiver, and get a 20 minute ride which seems all too short once it's over (time flies when you're having fun, and you WILL have fun). Fair deal for a fun and unique experience. The bumper cars alone were awesome, though not without some hassle. The staff here seems quite unorganized and maybe a little confused.Their website says that they're open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. We arrived just at 11, when the counter staff told us that they couldn't sell tickets to us because they box office was closed, and to come back the next day. Whatever, we did. What both the website and staff fail to tell you is that you basically need a reservation. As walk-ins, we were lucky enough to get a spot after hearing a bit of "umm", "hold on", "let me ask..." you get the picture. I was waiting on a new card to come in the mail at the time and only had cash. They told us that they only accept cards, but ultimately after some hassle, took our cash. Once the ball was finally rolling, we were told that we'd be alone on the rink, which we didn't mind, only to be placed with a family of 6. Truthfully, you'll have more fun with more people to crash into, but I'm just trying to convey the confusion that goes on here. If you can get past the customer service, the bumper cars are SO worth it. read more

Weeee! There is nothing like whizzing along the ice, wind in your hair, and enjoying the glow of the Providence (the few that exist) skyscrapers looming above. This is ice skating at the Bank of America City Center at night and it rocks! I went on the opening day this year, Thanksgiving evening to be exact, and had a fantastic time. Sure you might need to pop on your ear buds in order to drown out the obnoxious popular music blaring out of the speakers. Aside from that, it is a lovely, and cheap, time regardless of the horrible music and masses of teenagers. It is only six dollars for the skating and four for the rental (if you need it). That is cheaper than seeing a movie nowadays. So, bundle up, strap on those skates, grab a friend or your significant other, and go out and have some winter-y fun. read more

I went here for the first time. What's the point of these children they hire to monitor the ice if all they do is stand there and talk to each other. When I suggested that maybe they should do something to elevate congestion....since gaggles of teenagers kept forming...they stated it wasn't illegal and that they didn't think "shooing" them would work. I said "it wouldn't hurt to try." Because really, it wouldn't. They lost their power as staff members so the ice was anarchy. If you are a couple looking for romantic time or a family with kids, steer clear of this teenager hoodlum hangout. I don't ever plan on returning for the choppy ice or poorly taken care of skates. Finally I must state that the layout is dumb. Go to patriot place, it's better. read more

Ok lets start positive its an ice rink in the dead center of a busy city an it meets that quality of movie romance in the city. Like something you see the cast from sex in the city at... yet the romance stops there. The music is annoying as hell, to loud and some songs not appropriate. We went for the bumper cars and this is a ton of fun for everyone. However I found out the hard way that you need to pretty much reserve a spot because no cars are left open for walk in folks. Now the customer service is shy of being extraordinary. Last night we were met by a young lady at the window and after getting set for our reservation I asked if there was a close by place to grab coffee. She directed us across the road to a starbucks in a hotel but didnt know if they would be open for the holiday. I kind of sarcastically responded that the city doesnt seem to much open for NYE amd it was dead. This is when she explained it was a holiday very cold and no one comes to the city for NYE in a rude I dont even want to be at work tone. Ok ok ok now ive been going into Providence for 30+ and have taken a few years off from NYE in Providence. However I remember a very busy active city with events and lots of people no matter the temp. We bundled up drank hot drinks and always had a good time. So we decided to skip Starbucks and walked down the rink. Low and behold there was a coffee truck parked AT THE ICE RINK. When talking with the awesome people of cafina coffee truck they basically told us the rink people know they are there.. I love this place. I used to be a decent skater, but the years away from the ice have atrophied my mad skillz and I wobble around like a Weeble on the ice. I don't even care though, I still have a great time at this place, and there are all different skill levels out there just having fun. Even if I'm not on the ice, it's fun to just hang out and watch the other skaters. This is an affordable way to get a little exercise, spend some time outside and just have wintertime fun! I even like just walking past this place on my way somewhere else. The pop music is loud and infectious and you can hear the laughs and screams on the other side of the park. The regular price for skating and skate rental is affordable, but the past two years they have run several Groupons as well. They're open pretty much all day every day, so there is no excuse for not getting out there at least once a season. Go lace up your skates and I'll see you on the ice! read more

Let me just start off by saying that I can NOT for the life of me ice skate. I fail miserably in that arena, but I can't help but enjoy myself at this ice rink. Being in the middle of the city of Providence makes this rink a great spot for any occasion, preferably a nice date with your sweetheart! Went here with two people and brought my own skates. Was charged way more than what the cost should have been (like $20 over) and didn't get to refute the cost. Super annoyed because I don't have a ton of money and I wanted to save money by bringing my own skates. Poorly managed and rude. The "manager" at this rink is refusing to let my daughter skate without giving shoes for a rental. The poor 8 year old showed up without shoes to the rink and they won't let her rent sakes. We presented a reasonable solution which they wouldn't even entertain. We have friends who drove all the way up from NYC to visit with us and now we can't enjoy the Christmas holiday with them as planned. They were unsympathetic, stubborn, and didn't care that my 8 year old was crying about it. Don't waste your time here. read more

We skated here on the Eve of Christmas Eve for an hour or two and it was a blast! So the skate rink has been in Downtown Providence for years. Anchored by Burnside Park and Kennedy Plaza and across the street from the Biltmore Hotel and City Hall, there is also a tunnel that takes you to restaurants and the waterfire basin. Metered street parking is easy to find in the evenings and on the weekends - free on Sundays. Skate for $7 ($4 for kids and seniors). Rent skates for an additional $6. But if you can't skate, or don't feel like skating, or feel like having a new thrill, try out the new Ice Bumper Cars. During the day the ice is divided and you have only a small area, but from 10pm till midnight you have the whole ice and it is well worth it to wait. For $12 you get 20 minutes of pure exhilaration. Go with your friends. There are 15 bumper cars. Call ahead or stop by to make a reservation and then just show up 20 minutes before your ticketed time so that you can fill out the waivers and get oriented. So much fun. read more

Easy to rent your skates, and it's just plain nice to see people outside and enjoying themselves, whether they're gliding around or landing on their butts or somewhere in between. Of course your feet/ankles will inevitably hurt like hell if you, like me, are not used to skating, but that comes with the territory. Great way to get outside for urban dwellers in winter. I wanted to book the bumper cars for me and my family, I accidentally booked the ice skating.. never in my life have I ever seen 15 minute increments for 22 bucks for 2 adults and 2 children, I assumed it was for the ice bumper boats.. I get there to realize that I in fact made a human error and booked ice-skating.. The manager did give me a refund because I booked a half an hour for 44 bucks...!! not including the skate rentals either.. but he was pissed and he didn't care if I knew it... the lady at the window made sure to treat me like I was threatening her with covid when I pulled down my mask for a second to explain my situation because there was a huge plastic shield between us and impossible for her to hear me with the mask. I UNDERSTAND times are tough for the community and maybe a little price spike is normal but the prices are outrageous.. I have an iceskating rink in my town and they are waiving the fees lol.. good luck to the providence rink I will never be back... read more

The Tape Art Installation Closing was wonderful. Great family fun. The Public Tea was a brilliant idea with a nice selection of biscuits, The Julian's Omnibus had not only a good pulled pork wrap but excellent upstairs dining. The Extraordinary Rendition Band added to the spirit of the community removal of this awesome Tape Art Installation all caught on film . The whole day was a joy and a work of art. Fun Place to skate and nice they also rent skates there. We managed to get a fairly close parking spot on the side. There could be more seating for those who aren't skating though. Also the snack counter should definitely be opened at all times. The girl working subway counter runs it so everytime someone wanted a snack or hot chocolate they had to ask at Subway and she'd say I'll be there in a few minutes. We waiting about 20 mins for a soft pretzel and 2 hot chocolates. read more

The rink is well maintained; the Zamboni comes out every hour to smooth the ice... The music is extraorindarily loud. It's pounding, blasting, and obnoxious third-rate pop. Young or old, you will leave this place with a head-ache. People must shout at each other to be heard, on the ice and in the spectator space... Parking on surrounding city streets is scarce, and if you are one minute late to feed the meter, Providence's army of ticket writers will swoop in to rip you off. read more

This is the worst rink I have ever been to. You cannot skate in the center of the rink bc it will cover up their advertisement (Apparently Alex & Ani don't have enough money). The staff people are short tempered & complain if you skate too fast. They close early & too many people on a Friday/Saturday night to enjoy yourself. read more
