After a brother from Iowa shared his love for the food at this little sports bar in Charles City, IA., we took a ride out there last Saturday. The place was immediately next to the Cedar River, and thanks to quite a bit of recent rain, the river was roaring The waitress came to the table quickly, and we ordered a couple of sodas and pork tenderloin sandwiches. She was friendly, and even though it was obvious that she was busy, she was attentive and professional. The food arrived faster than we'd have thought, since it was busy, but it was wonderful. The fries were piping hot and crispy on the outside, and the pork sandwich was AWESOME. Soft roll, crisp, cold lettuce and tomato, and an amazing piece of perfectly cooked pork! The breading was light and perfectly crisp, and it was nearly too hot to eat when it arrived...the kitchen did a wonderful job. We'll absolutely go back - this little pub is a hidden gem! read more

Very spacious pub with high ceilings. There are adjacent function rooms that you can reserve for parties. Many TVs. Lots of seating. Good AC. The patio outside is just lovely, and is right on the Cedar River, with a great view of the rapids. They have a large, excellent selection of beers, including many wonderful local craft brews. They even serve a pint of Guinness, pretty much properly poured! We haven't yet eaten here, but it looks like hearty, well-prepared pub fare. Staff are friendly and personable. Awesome food, omg, between the shrimp and the ribeye sandwish, everything was just delicious. Super polite staff and a chill vibe that made getting a little bit of work done while I waited easy and convenient. I love being able to sit and get lost in my notes without feeling like I'm being hurried or asked if I need anything else every twelve seconds. easily my favorite sports bar in the area. Stopped in after making a quick trip to Charles City and was not disappointed... friendly staff, great draft beer selection... The pork tenderloin sandwich did not disappoint, was excellent....returned following evening and had a wonderful chicken salad with house made raspberry vinaigrette...once again was excellent.. Second visit to this restaurant, and I'm not nearly as likely to return. Server was a youn male that really didn't seem to have any interest in being there, and definitely not interested in taking care of a customer. I ordered the breaded pork tenderloin....he brought out the grilled pork tenderloin. When I pointed out the incorrect item...his response was just "oh, sorry" and walked away...no offer to correct it at all. I dont know if the breaded pork tenderloin is any good, but I definitely was not impressed with the grilled. No flavor, no seasoning, rather dry bun. Not sure if I will return in the future. read more

We've been eating takeout from here for several years now since we moved here. I like that in what feels like the middle of a town with not many options, The Pub On The Cedar has numerous delicious options that are on par or better with a huge city restaurant. For Charles City that's a huge deal. We love their penne with marinara meat sauce, the reuben, and their burgers. We also love their appetizers. The breaded pickle chips are a favorite of mine. I'm looking forward to eating there in person and partaking in the beautiful scenery as well as tasting their beer selection too. Hopefully some day soon. read more

The Pub on the Cedar was a great answer to our hunger after a morning of driving. I had "The P. T." Which was a massive pork tenderloin with superb crunch! A side of seasoned waffle fries was a great compliment. Wayne had the Dunk Burger and he dipped his burger and his fries into the au jus, and was very happy. Very good beer selection at the Pub - I loved the gose. We wanted something light, but ended up with the PT (pork tenderloin) sandwich. You can get it breaded (my wife's favorite) or grilled (my choice). Both were huge and delicious!! Mine was too big to pick up and ended up eating it with a fork and knife. Yum! We were on the outdoor patio with an excellent view of the river. What a pleasant spot! read more

They advertised on the key card of my hotel and there was a happy hour so I'm there. They have a nice bar area separated by a half wall then a good sized dining room and also an outside patio with a bar. The dinning room has large windows out to the river and patio so it is a pretty view. Everything I've had has been good and fresh tasting. It's definitely American Bar fare with some imagination from the chef. I'm usually skeptical about a side of veggies but this place has the best I've tasted in a long time. It's cooked just enough with snap peas and lots of them, delicious. Having only sat at the bar I can't say about the dining area service. At the bar it is usually good but sometimes can be lacks as bar service can. The sporting events that are usually on the many TV's is odd to me. We found this place by luck and boy were we lucky. They have a wonderful out door patio with a nice view and decent tables to sit at, not just cheap outdoor furniture. The hosts and our waitress were both friendly and out going. They actually talk to you not just sit here what do you want. Both my wife's and my sandwiches were excellent but what impressed us the most was how good the deep fried food (french fries and onion rings) were. There is a very pretty view of the river outside the pub. However, the service inside wasn't great. Our waitress barely looked at us and was running around angrily, and fanatically all night. Food was okay, nothing to brag about, but decent. We split the spinach and artichoke dip and boneless Parmesan garlic wings. Came up to try this place out last weekend while home visiting family. They had a good size of menu as far as options for entrees, pastas and salads. I would have liked a couple more options for sandwiches outside of burgers, but the rueben I ordered was pretty good. My only complaint was it was soggy on one side. I ended up eating the sandwich "open face" style. We ordered onion rings to start and were served a big pile of thin ones (I personally like the thin crunchy ones just fine). Our drinks were always kept refilled, the entrees were hearty, and our server was really nice. I like the atmosphere as well. I would recommend this place to a friend. read more

Now talk about great food and great fun. Went here for a karaoke night a couple years back and had a blast. It seems like all my friends were enjoying as well. While the karaoke was blasting and the beers were being chugged I almost forgot about my family I left in the booth, but they were having a great time too. One of the biggest and best Pork Tenderloin I have ever had! No one in my party complained about the food at all! However. I'm a person who gets angry about the services very easily, I never say anything to anybody though. I just let it go. Nobody at the table got a refill on their drinks, and we asked for a couple extra things after our food arrived to the table and we waited about 10 minutes for it and ended up having to go get it ourselves.
