Don't let the 3 stars lead you to believe that this is a negative review. The place is just what 3 stars is...and this is it was just ok. Nothing terrible. Nothing to write home about. It served it's purpose for me, and that was to get some food in my belly and to have an adult beverage. I chose to sat at the bar. The lady behind the bar was super nice. She said she usually doesn't work behind the bar. No worries, she got the job done. The bar had Jim Beam Red Stag, which you don't see much anymore. As soon as I saw that, I had to get a mix with that and coke. The "bartender" also said I should go with a burger instead of a sandwich. I took her advice and got the Beer Cheese Pretzel Burger. This had bacon, some crispy onions, pickles and of course some cheese sauce. The burger was a good size. But, it was just average. Bun was soft, too. So, um yeah, that's about it. read more

First time eating here. Not sure we'll be back. Waitress was very slow and didn't care. Pretty much ignored us. There were only two other tables with customers so it was far from busy. The waitresses were more interested in eating their food than taking care of customers. Our food came fast once the waitress took our order. My husband ordered the tenderloin and he said it was just okay. I had the Honey Crispy Chicken sandwich which was very good, but it only came with one slice of bacon. We ordered takeout and the food was pretty good but unfortunately we didn't actually get all of the food we ordered. I was given a half full takeout container and unfortunately we didn't notice until we got back to where we're staying 25 minutes away. I called to see about getting it fixed and I was told they were busy but a manager would call me back. Never heard back so I guess I'm just out the money at this point. So long story short, the food was good but I'd stick to eating in or check each order before leaving. read more

We LOVE this restaurant!!! This is Iowa food at its best. Osage (which is one of Andrew's favorite small towns) is an adorable place and we've eaten at Teluwut five times. Every time Andrew has ordered something different and loved everything. I was addicted to the Iowa chop for the first four times, it is sooo good! The last time I wasn't feeling like having a big piece of meat so I had the portobello sandwich and it was amazing! The mashed potatoes and sweet potato fries are our faves. They're known for their flat iron steak but try anything. It's all good. Always good food and good service at a great price!!! ps please add more desserts, though we've only had room for dessert once we would have liked to have more options. thanks! read more

I mean, it was fine. We ordered onion for an appetizer. They were frozen and then double fried. They were fine. Nothing special,but still pretty good. I ordered the lunch special of half a BLT and a salad. The salad was from a bag. Nothing special, but not horrible either. My BLT came with no condiments. I had to ask for mayo. They brought three packets to the table. The service was good and it had a good "small town Iowa" atmosphere. read more

We visited this restaurant recently. It was a Saturday late afternoon. When we walked in it looked pretty busy. We looked for any signs stating "wait for host or hostess". We didn't see any. We proceeded to seat ourselves. I young lady came over and asked for our beverage order. We ordered our drinks and were sitting there and talking when a different young lady came over and informed us that there was a waiting list for seats. Our response was really? We didn't see any signs stating wait to be seated. Even though we had already started our order by ordering our drinks she asked us to get up and move and asked us if we'd like to be put on a waiting list. I said we've already started our order and this is where we'd like to sit. She said we'd have to be on a waiting list and that we needed to move. We did move...right out the front door. We left and probably will never go back. In all the years that I've visited various restaurants this has never happened. This is a great example of very poor customer service and a very poorly run establishment. Very disappointed. read more

We stopped by on a busy Friday night at about 7 while driving from South Dakota to Virginia. The service was quick and friendly. We ordered the Tavern Chips - perfectly fried thin-sliced potatoes, along with the pulled pork and garlic pork sandwiches. The pork on both sandwiches was moist and flavorful, and the fries that came with them were hot and crispy on the outside. This is a family restaurant, full of local families with kids. I wish we could have stayed longer and had some beers, but we had to hit the road. Osage is a great little town - well worth a detour to see the town and eat at Teluwut. read more

This cute restaurant/bar is on the main drag in Osage. We came here to celebrate my parents' 50th anniversary. Called ahead and reserved a private room in the back. There were five adults and three kids, so we had a pretty varied order. Everyone enjoyed the food, and my teen niece said the ribs, baked beans, and parmesan breadstick were the best she's ever eaten. (Not sure how often she gets that combo!) I was pretty pleased with my Iowa smoked pork chop, Greek salad, and stuffed baked potato, although the portion was so large that I had to take half home. Other enjoyable entrees included the hog wings, fried cod, chicken pasta, and chicken fingers. My husband and I each had a good local IPA, although it took some time to get it. Other than that, service was super speedy -- we were all in and out in under an hour, and this was a busy Friday night. There's a large food menu and perhaps an even larger drink menu, so I'm sure you can find something that strikes your fancy if you're ever in the neighborhood. I can see why this is a locals' favorite -- and by "locals," I mean my parents, who live 30 minutes from Osage! Not sure when I'll be back, but I know my folks will be soon... read more

We had a mixed experience at Teluwut. The atmosphere was cool; its a typical small town roadhouse with really cool woodwork above the bar. The food was amazing. I had the Roadhouse burger, which came on a great ciabatta roll, and my wife had a blackened prime rib sandwich, both were excellent. My daughter ordered a 6 oz Sirloin off the kids menu for $5.99, and it was a much better than expected cut of meat that was perfectly prepared at medium-rare. We ordered a tall Oktoberfest and it came in an amazing frosted mug that kept the beer ice cold, for only about $4. Unfortunately, the service was about the worst I've ever experienced. We we came in during a small lunch rush; it wasn't busy enough for us to not be seated immediately, but it took us 20 minutes for a waitress to even come and address our table and get us water. Then 10 minutes later we got her attention again and managed to get her to take our order. She didn't know the menu, didn't ask us what sides we wanted with the kids meals, or what they wanted to drink with their meal. The food came out quickly and hot, so I don't think the kitchen was backed up, we were just unlucky enough to get an incompetent waitress. The fastest I saw her move all day was when we asked for the check. The good news is that it seemed like our poor service might be the exception and not the rule. Tables all around us were being seated after us and getting service before us, and everyone seemed happy with their experience. read more

Stop in about once a year when in town visiting family. We usually have 7-10 in our party and they're always accommodating to us. We eat here every time we come to Iowa. The food is great, the portions are huge and the price is very reasonable for what you're getting. I have loved every dish I have eaten here! I'll definitely go back to Teluwut. Outstanding mashed potatoes and I'm not usually a big fan of mashed potatoes. Varied menu and a nice kid's menu - spaghetti, fish, etc (not just chicken nuggets). Burgers are pretty good, but not the best I've had. Plus, there is so much more to try. Our kids split an adult entree of beer battered fish and shrimp and the cod looked great. Outstanding cole slaw as well. Our server could have smiled once or twice - that would have made the visit perfect. read more

I came here on a Thursday night after the dinner crowd. Seated and served my drink quickly. I ordered the ribeye, garlic bread and a side house salad. The salad was cold but had some brown leaves. The steak was done quickly, was lightly seasoned and tasty. (For the price the bread shouldn't count as a side.) It was grilled perfectly but a little tough for $24.99, not to mention it was only 12 oz. it's a nice place in a cool old downtown building. Mostly clean and well kept. It has enough TVs to watch a game. They offered the table next to me dessert but not me. These few little things keep this from being a 4 star in my book. But it is still a good place. Almost all of the speciality burgers are under $10. read more

We love this restaurant. We drove up from Waverly and were pleasantly surprised. We got the nachos grande as an appetizer which were amazing. We also had the French dip, bbq pulled pork, the kids 6oz steak, and the mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was just Kraft, which was a little disappointing but it was for my 4 year old son. Both of the sandwiches were fantastic. The root beer was served in big frosty mugs and the wait staff was friendly and very helpful. The ambiance of the restaurant was great. If it were possible to give zero stars I would. No sign about whether to "Wait to be seated " or "Seat yourself". The bartender told us that we needed to wait because they were clearing tables and a minute later a waitress told us to seat ourselves. We sat at a table that was clean when we arrived there. We got our drinks in a timely manner. We then waited 10 minutes before a different waitress came up to see if we wanted an appetizer and left before we could put in our entree order. We proceeded to wait a half an hour before that waitress came back to see if we would like to order. People that had arrived after us had gotten appetizers within 5 minutes of getting there because they knew one of the waitresses. This waitress also walked past our table multiple times. The restaurant was not very busy (we arrived at 7:55, on a Tuesday night) Needless to say, I'm never going back to Teluwut. read more

The food is typical bar/grill food. The one standout item on the menu is the Nacho Grande item on the appetizer list. This could be a meal alone for 1 or 2. Very very good. The reason my rating is low is the service is not good. The last time I visited, a couple weeks ago, we had to ask for water three times before it was brought to the table. Granted it was dinner rush on Saturday, but this level of service has happened nearly every time. On a weekday I have called in to place a to go order. I was asked to wait a minute. I could hear the hostess/waitress helping others and I was on hold for 15 mins before I hung up. Tried calling later and no answer. While the food is pretty good, I do not like to go here for the service quality is not good. read more

Absolutely pissed. Today is my birthday. My grill went up in flames on the lowest setting. Got that taken care of but burned the crap out of our steaks. So we decide to go to the "second best restaurant" in Iowa. I have on my birthday pin so that everyone knows that it is my birthday. There were four of us, and Connor. We were on the waiting list for a short amount of time which was nice. Once we got seated, we placed our appetizer and drink order (this took 10 minutes). When the waitress came to the table with our drinks, we placed our order for our meal. 10 minutes later the waitress comes back and says there are no more specials and they are also out of loaded baked potatoes. Then the waitress proceeds to tell Emily that she cannot have the steak without the shrimp for the special price, even though she originally placed the order for the special. At this point all Emily wants is the Steak with no shrimp for the special price. The waitress gets extremely rude and tells her that they cannot do that. Emily asks why not and asks to talk to the manager. The manager comes over and Emily asks her, and walla they can do it. At this point we have been waiting a while and still no appetizer has come to our table, so we also ask the manager to check on that for us. The manager brings out the appetizer. We are starving so we dig in. Next comes the salads...only we only got 2 of the 3 salads that were ordered. The waitress starts to walk away when we ask her to refill all of our drinks...imagine that the drinks being empty when we have been waiting for so long. She rolls her eyes and proceeds to get our drink glasses to do the refills. When she returns we ask about the 3rd salad because that still has not been delivered to the table. We wait...and wait...and wait. Finally the person that orders the salad goes up to the manager and says hey look, we need a new waitress because apparently this one doesn't want to do her job. When this is going on, the salad finally comes out. UGH. We eat. A few minutes later, the food comes out. No big issues with that. The topping on the cake however is when we got our bill. Now mind you, there are four of us and Connor. On the bill we get charged for a Fat tire beer...$4.10. None of us ordered a drink when we were waiting to be seated and the cups were clearly seated on the table yet from our 2 ice teas, 1 mello yellow, 1 chocolate milk, and 1 water. Not a beer mug in sight. Emily goes up to the manager and says we never ordered a beer. The waitress takes the bill and goes back to talk to the girls. One girl (one that we had not even seen) came out and said yes they ordered a beer. Again we all (all 4 of us) stated that we didn't order a beer and that they could clearly see that at the table. The girl got snotty, and walked away. This same girl went back to her table to eat and was talking shit about us...the customer right there. Ridiculous. Now anyone that knows Emily, knows that she doesn't tolerate this kind of bullshit. She told the girl that if she wanted to talk shit to come talk to her face. Needless to say they took the beer charge off the bill. We left NO tip. We really love the food here but the service is absolutely horrific. It NEVER used to be like this. We paid $70 for this bad service and now I am shedding light on this situation so that hopefully it can be fixed. Happy Birthday to me. read more
