We've had a weekly visit to The Puddle from May-present before my dog had CCL surgery and to help him recover when he was cleared to rehab. We've had a lot of swims with Adrianne- and we love her and her relationship with our Oliver. The swims have really helped him recover and strengthen both his injured leg and his healthy leg. The Puddle is a popular place, so it is sometimes tricky to get in- but well worth it in my opinion. They also sell lots of fun toys and treats for dogs too and have a space for bathing your dog that I need to try out for sure. They also sell packages for the swims that do save you a little money. I would highly recommend this location- the staff is absolutely wonderful! read more

If I could give this place 10 stars I would!!! My golden isn't doing so great because of hip dysplasia, I saw an immediate difference after her swim therapy! The staff is incredibly friendly! So, my beagle, Brandy, is a fospice failure. Officially adopted! But that being said...she has malignant melanoma, and her time left on this planet is rather unknown. :( So she decided to #livelikeroo (if you're unfamiliar, you should definitely google it!) and Brandy the Beagle's Bucket List was born. We've made a steady clip on it, but yesterday we found out some generous, anonymous soul donated a swim sesh for our girl out of the kindness of her (or his?) heart. *swoon* Cathy, the amazing owner of The Puddle, reached out on Instagram (yes, Brandy has her own account...don't judge) and she was immediately amazing. Not even kidding. We exchanged a few emails, spoke on the phone, and set up an appointment for yesterday morning at 11AM. You guys, this place is AWESOME. Okay, for starters...it's pristine. The shop itself, the pool, the pool area, the drying area, the self dog wash area...all spotlessly clean. It's like dogs don't even set foot in here, let alone parade through here all day. As a germaphobe, these things matter greatly to me, believe me. Second: Cathy is basically a dog whisperer. If you're a pet parent, you know that warm & fuzzy feeling you get when someone is so incredibly (& genuinely) sweet to your furry family member? That's Cathy. Brandy adored her immediately. *I* adored her immediately. She was SO good with my pup. So gentle, so loving, so kind. I had zero hesitation about having my "non-swimming" dog in a wonderfully warm pool as I sat on the sidelines. Cathy was perfectly attentive and intuitive. She provided a fantastic work-to-rest ratio and was never out of arm's reach; she let Brandy swim independently but stayed close. She switched back and forth from life jacket swimming to free swimming, but always watched Brandy for any signs of stress and/or fatigue. So, how did she, my sweet beagle, like her swimming experience? Brandy LOVED it, you guys. Loved. It. She took to it like--wait for it--a dog (duck?) to water. (Cheesy, I know. But seriously!) She had an absolute blast and was so calm, so content, so happy. After her swim sesh, you would've thought she was a one year old puppy, not a senior beagle with terminal cancer. Total case of the "zoomies". And then she slept the whole 90 minute drive home! If you're thinking about introducing your pup to swimming, The Puddle is the place to go. Truth: not all dogs are natural swimmers. Some can't, and that means they sink. Not kidding, you guys. If your canine companion is going to be around water, you definitely need to check this out. I have been part of the puddle since my St Bernard April was 6 months old, she has double hip dysplasia, bringing her here was the best decision I've made. About 8 months ago she started to have problems limping after swimming, running, or just after a 5 min walk. And Kathy mentioned this amazing powder anti inflammatory, so I decided to give it a try and after about roughly 6 weeks I started to see results now about 6-8 months on this powder she has no limping problems at all, she runs, swims, walks and no problem. I will definitely recommend if you have a dog that has any time of problems with joints to give it a try you won't regret it. Just give it time and be patient. read more

Brought my foster dog here for physical therapy after he had his acl operated on. The staff was always warm and welcoming and the work they did with Tenny was amazing. I'd recommend them for anyone who's pet needs physical therapy or even diversified, low impact exercise. The staff is very knowledgeable and accommodating for your pets needs and solely focus on giving them the care they need and deserve. Ultimately we adopted Tenny and welcomed him into our home forever and if he needs another knee surgery I wouldn't bring him anywhere else for rehabbing his strength and conditioning. Tenny was finicky about water getting in his ears so the instructor gave him a sort of a shower cap to help keep the water from bothering him as he swam and it really seemed to help keep him on track through training as he wasn't distracted or slowed down by having to try and shake water out. They accommodate everything your pet needs in order to focus on the training and conditioning they are providing! I LOVE THIS PLACE! read more

This place is dirty. They don't clean or sanitize between clients-they're too lazy to even answer the phone. The self washes are never cleaned, and are filled with a months worth of dog hair. Go elsewhere. Catherine, Take accountability instead of making excuses. The bottle was in her hands and she didn't bother to spray the area...I was at the dog bathe area watching. That's just LAZY. Not answering phones? That's just LAZY. Not removing what appeared to be ten pounds of months old dog hair? That's just lazy. Again, you both need a lesson in accountability. It happened- you should have found ways to correct it and ensure proper service instead trying to flip things around. Business 101 lesson. read more

This place is awesome!! The staff and owner are super friendly. They really do care for the dogs and help them out in the pool. I had an older dog Mya with bad hips and she loved going there. The water helped her to get exercise cause she couldn't go for long walks. I really do believe that Myas life was prolonged because she came here. I took our Saint Bernard to the self wash + the experience was awesome! The customer service was amazing! Jessica was super kind + informative. Everything she explained over the phone was the same upon arrival; no surprises. The wash area was clean + spacious. Although we were the only ones there that night, I could definitely see it comfortably accommodation both dogs + owners in all three tubs/stalls @ one time. They provide shampoo/conditioner, two towels + an industrial dryer @ each station. There is a ramp attached to two of the higher tubs + a larger ground tub for bigger dogs. I was however, able to more than comfortably fit our Saint Bernard in the tub w/ a ramp! It's large enough to fit two smaller or standard sized dogs in one tub! If you have more than one pup, I'd suggest bringing them together to get the discounted rate! They also have bars w/ a hook type collar for the dogs while you bathe them to ensure they stay put! Lastly, they have super thick aprons for the owners to wear to keep you dry! You can also bring extra towels +/or your own soaps! I would definitely recommend taking your dog here! read more

I have learned a ridiculous amount about pet nutrition from this place. The staff has a vast knowledge on the subject (one of them literally wrote a book on it!) and are incredibly willing to share it with whomever comes in. It's obvious that they have a passion for animals, which it turns out, just like their masters, need a healthy diet in order to stay in good form into old age. (And the Standard American Diet for dogs is about on par with that of humans!) On that note, you'll find tons of neat things you won't find at the big box pet stores. If you have a dog that likes to chew, try the "bullies". It's like a rawhide bone but it won't give your dog intense indigestion as it's a 100% digestible bull organ (Guess which one!). Which upon a test run with several dogs, they live up to their claim. To give you a better idea of the food, I must confess that because the dog treats I bought had only one ingredient, 100% cheddar cheese, I couldn't resist having a sample for myself...not bad... read more

The Puddle is absolutely AMAZING! I've been taking my 4-year-old Jack Russell Terrier here since she was about 6 months old and she is absolutely in love with the pool. The owner Cathy is so great with the all the dogs and the entire staff is welcoming and nice. They are all very knowledgeable on the best food for my pup as well as how to keep her on a healthy diet. The pool and store are both spotless considering how many dogs go in and out of there all day long. I've never met someone who is more passionate about what she does than Cathy. She needs to open one in the city so all the downtown dogs can benefit from this excellent service!! read more

We are bringing our 7 year old English Setter mix about twice a week. The Puddle is clean, well organized and very friendly. Lindy needs some exercise for a rear leg issue and after 5 visits, I think she is improving. Lindy actually has made the turn from being terrorized to having fun during her sessions...and she is a dog who has never really enjoyed water. We will keep up our twice a week schedule! read more

This is amazing facility with a wonderful staff. Our puppy has loved learning to swim. I wish we could have discovered this place when our yellow lab was old and arthritic. The owners are passionate about animals and really enjoy what they do for a living. LOVE! Love. Love the Puddle! So I'm a really, really active volunteer at DuPage County Animal Carr & Control. I love helping the animals, training them to be more attractive for forever homes and helping them stay sane during their sometimes long waits for homes. Every so often I fall madly in love with a dog there, and recently, it's been an amazing young gentleman named Henry. Henry also caught the eye of a VERY generous donor, who offered Henry a few swimming lessons at The Puddle while he waited for his forever home. I happily brought him to his first appointment last week and loved the entire experience as much as Henry did! I've been to one other hydrotherapy place, once with my own dog, and I didn't really love the place. The Puddle was so different! When Henry and I walked in, everyone was so warm and welcoming! They quickly ushered us back to the giant pool and allowed Henry to sniff around till he got comfortable. Then we made our way up the stairs and toward the pool. The instructor stayed IN the pool with Henry the whole time, using cheering, treats, toys, and all sorts of encouragement to ensure he loved it. She was concerned with HIS well-being and never looked at the clock or made us feel rushed. The pool was immaculately clean and I felt totally comfortable being barefoot at the side of it (to assist in Henry's swims)! I couldn't believe how fast the time went by and how comfortable we were made to feel. At the end, I purchased a treat for Henry from their lobby full of all kinds of goodies, and met the owner's adorable 14 year old terrier. We made another appointment and off we went. As if this experience wasn't awesome enough, the owner maintains a "share the care!" fund to sponsor adoptable dogs visits to The Puddle. How great is THAT?! I'm seriously considering coming back with my terrified-of-the-planet dog, because we had such a great time here. I took our 2 year old Lab Rory for a swim lesson. He loves to splash about in the water but has never been in deep enough to swim. We were greeted as soon as we arrived and shown the swim area. Cathy was already in the water waiting for us. Rory is a lot of dog and was a bit hesitant of the deck surface. Cathy was patient and guided him down the ramp and into the water. It wasn't long before he was responding to my recall and swimming with some guidance. He was licking Cathy's face and his tail wouldn't stop. When the session was over it was into the drying room where there were towels and a dryer. We will be back before the warm weather to work on his comfort level and his stroke. Thanks for such a great experience. We have a new swimmer in the family. read more
