We've trusted Scott and his team at the Crate Escape for many years. Our 2 pugs are getting long in the tooth (yes, pun intended) at 10 and 12 years respectively. They can be fussy and need attention and they always seem to get that extra care when we are out of town. Sometimes for a long weekend and sometimes for a long (10 day) vacation. We provide directions for their diet and when they need downtime (because sometimes it's simply puppy overload for them and they need quiet) and the staff caters to their needs. They get to socialize with other dogs big and small and are so well acclimated there that they are not afraid, not traumatized and happy to go (evidenced by pulling on their leashes to go in when entering the building). Because this is a business and dogs do have accidents, it goes with the territory there and the mess gets cleaned up. Unlike leaving our dogs with family/friends where if they mess (let's say on a carpet or floor, we feel bad). This past stay, our senior pug got sick and Scott (with our permission) took him to the vet (connected with the facility). We felt the fee was fair and similar to our own vet as we would have done the same. The point is, that with constant communication, Scott acted as our proxy and returned our boy back to us in a state of recovery not decline. After 2 days back home with us (continuing meds) he's back to his old self. read more

Absolutely adore this place and the people who work there. The owner Renne has been so incredibly flexible and understanding with our work schedule. Cara, one of the employees, is a good friend of mine and makes feel so secure knowing my guy is under her supervision all day. Both of them send me videos and pictures throughout the day so I know how he's in good hands. He's an active breed and he ALWAYS comes home nice and pooped at the end of a day with his pals. This place has become a necessary evil because my dog needs a place to run around all day at and its nearby. Outside of that, I'm surprised this place does so well given that the size of the owner's ego undoubtedly leaves little room for actual dogs. When she is not dressing down clients in front of other clients for failing to adhere to her every egomaniacal whim (we're the ones paying you, no??), she is dousing you with rays of bogus sincerity. As with any bully, the best solution is to bully back - which makes this place a doable, albeit excrutiating, exercise in dog care. Notwithstanding the above, the other people who work there are super, super nice and great with the dogs. Hence, the protest-laden three stars. read more

We wanted to find a nice daycare for our dog. We did a trial and they said he was anxious and shaking most the day. We were not allowed in the dog area to say good-bye. New dogs are put in a play area that is separate and the fence is boarded, So, my dog can hear other dogs but not see them. That would make me anxious too!!! And we did a second trial and they said the same thing. So, we went to Petsmart in Naperville and our dog did great! And he stayed overnight for a long weekend and was so happy! My pug, a client, was up all night vomiting and when my vet was too busy to squeeze him in today, I called Renee and she was more than willing to help me find a reasonably priced vet that I could take him to today. She also spent time with me trying to figure out why he was vomiting. She truly cares about the dogs and their parents. I've been taking Quincey to The Crate Escape since he was a puppy. I trust them completely. The lobby is always exceptionally clean, too. If you ever have any concerns, they go above and beyond to reassure you that your dog is well taken care of. read more

I just want to start off by saying- I will miss you guys so much as I am moving away from Naperville! My dog, Wally- well he's just going to be scarred for life for not being able to come to The Crate Escape anymore! I really can't say enough good things about this place, all the staff members and Renee. True professionals and more importantly, dog lovers. My dog Wally, who we lovingly call our special needs child is demanding, overtly affectionate and suffered from intense separation anxiety. We tried everything to make him feel at ease in our home, but he just had way too much energy and frustration when left alone. The Crate Escape was our and his saving grace. The staff was so understanding and affectionate towards him, even when we had some ahem "starting troubles" as Wally didn't like being handled by strangers. They were patient with him, gave him space, time and let him get used to the environment at his own pace. Now Wally jumps with joy when I say "Day Care" and goes at least 2-3 times a week. He is so much more well behaved and his separation anxiety is under control. We boarded Wally here numerous times too, and had nothing but the best experience. Logistically, this was very convenient as my husband and I both commuted on the Metra and we could drop him/pick him up easily. Renee was very understanding and let us come in a tad bit late on some days when the Metra had ridiculous delays! We love the Crate Escape! Our two year old Lily, goldendoodle (high energy and diva like personality) has been going to the Crate Escape since she was 6 months old. You can tell the staff and owner, Renee are dog lovers! I love to see how each staff member gets to truly know each dog and their personalities, and they often share with you silly things your dog does during the day. Our Lily loves the Crate Escape and all her furry, and human friends there. I brought my highly energetic, young golden retriever (who I consider my most prized possession) to try doggy day care recenty! He is like the energizer bunny at home! Even after his run/bike ride, playing fetch and running around outside he still isn't tired and insists on having me continually play with him (he might be a little spoiled:)) But nedless to say, I am the one who is exhausted! I thought enrolling him in a doggy day care would help burn off some energy since he loves to play with other dogs! I am so happy we found The Crate Escape! Paisley loves it and gets so excited when we pull up to the facility! After his first day he fell asleep in the car sitting up because he was so tired and slept the rest of the night! I didn't know what to do with myself, I could actually sit down and relax without throwing the ball all night :) Their facility is large and equipped with an indoor area that opens to an outside with little pools for the dogs to play in! Large fans, hoses, pools and shade help keep the place cool in the summer! The people who work there engage and supervise with the dogs to ensure all is well! BEWARE! Owner is very rude and acts like a know it all. I took my German Shepherd here and was told he may not due well if he has anxiety but that we could try it. I felt that the owner Renee already had it set in her mind that my dog would not do well and she was very negative from the second we walked in which made me anxious about leaving him. She barely even said hello to him. I then found out they put a gentle leader on him to stop him from barking which is NOT okay as that is not what it is supposed to be used for. When I told her what gentle leaders are used for and that they are not used for barking I was told "well thats how they're used here." I was told he was too big but they did not even put him with the bigger dogs in a different play group. I was told the other dogs didnt like his bark and his size even though he was put with smaller dogs. That was her first mistake. Why would you put a 110 pound dog with smaller dogs. I brought him here because they are not kenneled and found out he was in timeout in a kennel because he was pacing and anxious... putting an already anxious dog that is doing nothing wrong in a kennel to become more anxious is not okay. I wish I could give them 0 stars. We find it is worth it to make the 40 minute drive to bring him to his previous daycare where the owners are amazing and welcome you with open arms and positivity. I recommend Canine Connections. I would never recommend this place to anyone! read more

Tanner has been enjoying the Crate Escape since he was a puppy (January 2018). The entire experience of "Doggie Daycare" has made him a better dog...he was a hyper mess when I brought him in and now he is social, well-behaved and easy to manage. I cannot say enough good things about Renee, Cara, Lori and team! They are easy to work with when I have to work longer hours and even boarded him a couple times due to work travel. I took my dog here once a week for months thinking that my dog was able to run around all day while I was at work. Well was I wrong. I showed up to pick up my dog one day and saw him in a cage. I nicely asked them about it and they said oh no he wasn't you must have been mistaking. Give me a break like I don't know my own dog. I will never trust my dog with these people again. read more

We boarded our dog from 10/9/13-10/13/13. Upon picking my dog Roxy up on 10/13/13 from the Plainfield Crate Escape location the young lady on duty informed us that Roxy had an accident but did not know when it happened (we have photos). She said that she had hurt herself in her cage. Upon inspecting the cage, we saw that there were several sharp pricks sticking out that she could have rubbed her body against. I was shocked that she would have been put in a cage with damage and could possibly harm herself if she were to jump up on the cage (as all dogs do). My biggest issue is with the amount of flesh scarring, dried blood on her stomach, legs and paws was that no one called us to tell us what happened. I just do not understand this at all. Also, her paws we blooded and puss filled as well. The young lady told us they can't possibly watch the dogs at all times...that is what they are there for isn't it?! Also, we were told that she ate all of her food, but upon looking in her bag there were several bags remaining which means she went a day or two without eating. There were no notes or any information left to let us know there was an issue. WIth both of these issues, we should have gotten a call. This is absolutely unacceptable. We took Roxy to the hospital on 10/14 to make sure there were no other issues. We also had no idea how long she was bleeding, so we needed to confirm that there is no infection. The doctor told us that with the amount of scarring that it could have happened on Thursday or Friday and there would have been some blood to clean up. So not only did they clean up the blood, they hid it and just pretended it did not happen. There was an infection, so Roxy is now on medication for 7 days. We had to pay $101 for that doctor visit. Because this was an unnecessary expense, we asked for a full refund for her stay. After crying and being completed guilt ridden about what Roxy had gone through, I emailed the owner photos of our emaciated dog, blooded stomach, legs, and paws, we were told that our dog damaged their cage and if she didn't have so much anxiety she would not have gotten hurt. Are you kidding me. As a dog caretaker, you should have notified us if there was a problem and if there was anxiety in any dog wouldn't you have something in place to sooth or relax them. You had no problem emailing and texting cute pictures of Roxy in past but you could not let us know our dog was in pain....UNACCEPTABLE! Also, the fact that you noticed there was anxiety and mentioned in the email means you knew there was an issue and decided not to call us. Also, the fact that we weren't even offered some sense of care and concern from the owner was appalling. At this point I want the word to go out about the type of care and service the Crate Escape provides. We will no longer be boarding nor training Roxy at their facility. If you love your dog think about where you board them and ask lots of questions.....lots of questions!!!! We have learned a valuable lesson. We love our dog...she is like family so if she must be boarded from now on...we will need answers to many questions. read more

After a not-so-pleasant experience at a daycare in the city, we were anxious about the quality of care elsewhere, so a lot of research went into our choice to bring our Lab here. We've had consistently positive experiences at the Crate Escape, and I always feel comfortable and relaxed knowing my dog is in good hands. The customer service and attention that goes into caring for the dogs is truly unparalleled. Not only is there a thorough half-day temperament evaluation process, but more importantly, they have no reservations turning away dogs with behavioral issues, which helps avoid the 'we'll take any dog' policy that far too many daycares seem to resort to. The owner, Renee, is very involved in the business, which I find incredibly comforting, and the other staff members I've been in contact with are friendly, informed and knowledgable. I also loved the fact that they quickly discovered our dog's love for playing fetch - we hadn't told them of this previously, so it was reassuring to know they spend individualized time interacting with the dogs to learn their special quirks and favorite activities. Our dog is out cold the entire ride home, which confirms she's had a fun-filled day each time she comes to play. We're new regulars at The Crate Escape and will certainly be using them for boarding in the future, which also comes highly recommended. So impressed! read more

I was excited to try the Crate Escape after using Petsmart for years. I told Renee that my golden retriever loved to play but easily gets tired and needed to be monitored because he would get irritable sometimes with excitable dogs that irritated him. Renee proceeded to tell me that he did well his first day and I asked if he would do well going twice a week. She said yes he would be fine to get my money. Then all of a sudden I get a text saying my dog went after another dog and I can come get him later and he will be in his own area. When I requested a video of the incident, I was given a 10 second grainy awful cell phone video of her security camera. She assured me that she reviewed all the tapes and that while the other dog was definitely irritating my dog, my dogs reaction was overkill and her people were on break so it's obviously my dogs fault. She said he has a history of issues and he can't be trusted. When I questioned this history after getting told he was doing fine, she proceeded to hang up on me. She claimed she didn't need to even send me that awful 10 second video that gave absolutely no context to the situation. Do yourself a favor and find another doggie day care. When you first sign up Renee is very accessible and easy to get a hold of. Then all of a sudden it's like she's never there, never in the office. You're given a two second report of how the day went because their staff doesn't have time to even talk to you because they're just churning out so many dogs. No wonder my dog was so stressed. Using a home day care now and the care giver has absolutely no idea how he had any issues. Much better situation for us both. Plus who wants their dog peeing on cement all day anyways? They get zero outdoor time at Crate Escape. read more

Again with the "giving this place six stars if I could"!! We've had our dog coming to day care 3 days a week now for almost a year. The staff here are just phenomenal! Everyone is so friendly and I enjoy hearing about what my dog did that particular day. They will always take a few minutes to chat with you when picking up your dog (which I appreciate). I took my 60-pound mix, Stanley, here for two years for weekly daycare and the occasional boarding before we moved out of Chicago--I'll be measuring any other dog daycares I go to against this one. My dog has a lot of anxiety around new people, but he LOVES everyone that works at the Crate Escape. Stan was always so happy to go to daycare here, he'd practically pull me inside every morning--it lifted a weight off my shoulders to see him so obviously at home here. The staff treat him like one of their own and are really good about working around his behavioral quirks to minimize stress for both him and myself. If there were ever any issues (throwing up, his behavior was a little off that day, etc.) the staff would tell me about their concerns in detail, and in general they were very thorough and knowledgeable. They were also very responsive to email and phone messages and flexible with scheduling. Don't hesitate to take your dog to the Crate Escape-my dog came back socialized, tired, and HAPPY after each day of daycare or boarding. I 100% trust them to take good care of my dog. I have a barking/jumpy teenager rescue dog, who needs a little extra attention. They lovingly work with her and tell me any news or progress with our Summer. My lab has been going there since 6 weeks old and now is 6 years. She goes 4-5 days a week. Renee and is my dog's "other" mom. The staff are great (I think of them as an extended family). I board my lab when I am out of town, it's clean, safe and I don't have to worry about my best friend while I am gone. I can go and have no worries. I know my dog is in a dog run at the end of the day as dogs are coming and going. Otherwise she gets in a frenzy. But at the end of the day she is exhausted from playing all day. I think it's a good thing. It's NOT all day. Check out the website.. Pools, toys etc. The best thing is that it is clean, she has never picked up any disease from other dogs. I would worry about that if it was an inside outside day care center. Would be hard to keep all of those nasty bugs that are in the dirt from passing from one dog to another with so much traffic. ` I would highly recommend the Crate Escape. read more

So it's been about a month since we brought my dog in and my groomer brought up how someone else had a bad experience here and I felt a review would be necessary even though a little time has passed. So we brought my dog to another day care and she passed the trial day but we wanted to find a place where she could play outside too. So we decided to try the crate escape and it left such a foul taste in my mouth. The owner called me back when I asked to set up a trial date and when I told her the breed of my dog she instantly got weird about it and had already made up her mind that my dog wouldn't fit In. But told me to bring her in to try it out. So I did and she was super nice to me. Seemed to care about my dog calling her cute and playing with her. She actually made me pay 35 dollars for a trial day which no other place has made me but I thought it would be worth it. She was suppose too stay for four or five hours and I got a call at home barely an hour later saying that she has my dog in her office by herself and that I need to pick her up immediately. Right as I get there I'm just sad for my dog and all I want to do is grab her and go and the owner felt the need to keep pressing on the topic. Telling me my dog only plays at the dogs not with them, she felt it was necessary to tell me my 6 month old puppy is a bully and that she would have no friends in her facility. Then when I was about to walk out she made one last comment saying see that breed is just all the same, I will not hire someone just to watch your dog and only your dog, that's not what I run my facility. She is your typical Naperville woman. Thinking she is high and mighty. Instead of just letting it go like I was and not making a scene even though I had to pay 35 dollars for barely an hour with no refund, she just felt the need to keep insulting me and my SIX MONTH OLD PUPPY. She is a sour woman and I wouldn't waste your time. The dog depot is so much better then this place. read more

I had to leave my little baby girl for a week at The Crate Escape whilst I made a trip back to Singapore to get some paperwork sorted at very short notice. Though she had no experience with day care facilities, she was able to adapt easily to the environment and the people there are nothing less than stellar. I could rest easy knowing that she was in safe hands and well taken care off, and it allowed me the peace of mind to focus on the elements that I needed to get done. I would highly recommend The Crate Escape to those looking for a place to house their loved ones, and to rest assured that the team there are going to provide the best possible environment for your loved ones. Our Penny Labrador Puppy has been attending 3 times a week and she never wants to go home! She is super excited when we pull up to drop her off. As a pet owner it is the best feeling knowing your dog is receiving the best! Boy does she sleep well when she comes home. Renee and her staff are the best. Right now with the Influenza scare, they have taken very responsible actions to ensure the health of our fur babies. I started bringing Charlie to Crate Escape about 6 months ago after trying other "doggie daycares" and we just love them! The first few days they texted pictures and kept me updated on how he was adjusting. Since then they fill me in on his day every time I pick him up. They take the health of the dogs seriously and are open to discuss anything you have questions about from health to behavior to how to best help your dog through life changes. Charlie cries to get out of the car and play as soon as we turn down their street and always comes home tired from a day of fun with other dogs - just what he's there for. An awful dog daycare experience. My dog, a big, boisterous but gentle as a lamb Black Labrador Retriever went here for several weeks and was asked to not return because "he takes toys and runs around with them". Okay, we thought that's what dogs do at daycare. The women who run this facility do not seem to understand how some dogs like to play and they are not accommodating at all. My neighbor's dog just lies around when here, and is welcomed back again and again. I've talked to other Labrador Retriever owners who have identical experiences with this laughable operation. If your dog likes to run around and PLAY, don't bring him or her here. read more

I read the other review posted on this website and was horrified by what i saw. So i went in to speak with the owner and she was more than helpful in explaining the situation. My dog Lucy goes there up to 5 times a week, depending on my work schedule, and she couldnt be happier. She wags her tail everytime we are on our way there and passes out as soon as she gets home. I couldnt be happier with this facility and it saddens me to hear people using the Internet to harm local businesses. We have two dogs that go here every day Monday through Friday during the day and they (the dogs) absolutely LOVE IT (I'm sure the staff do too). The dogs are DRAGGING me to the door every time we go. And each time Renee comes to the lobby, the dogs get so excited and they are jumping all over her and trying to lick her face! It warms my heart to know that there is someone they love as much as me who is there for them when I can't be. When we get up in the morning, I always talk to my dogs (totally normal) and I always ask, "Are you ready to go to doggy daycare??" And they know exactly what this means. They usually get all worked up, start running around in circles and take off running to the car. :o) Recently, we made last minute plans to go out of town on a holiday weekend. I called Crate Escape to ask if there were any openings for boarding overnight the same night and, sadly, there were none (I figured as much!). I knew Renee was so sad to tell us the bad news. We really really wanted to travel, though, so I chanced it and called a few other dog kennels (all based on Yelp reviews/word of mouth). When I inquired as to how long the dogs got to play each day at other boarding facilities, I was SHOCKED to learn that typical playtime is 2 hours a day!!! So out of 24 hours in a day, the dogs got to run for less than 10% of the day. Oh, but several of the kennels said they offered 45 minutes of additional play time if I would PAY MORE ($15). And they also offered grooming services and training if I wanted to pay for that as well (the dog would be groomed when I picked them up). I don't know about anyone else, but it felt more like a car wash than a kennel. And I don't even pay a babysitter that much - $15 for 45 minutes?? No thanks! The next day (Saturday) an opening did come up at Crate Escape and Renee was so kind to call me (on her day off!). The first thing I asked was "how long will they get to play each day?" thinking maybe I misunderstood what boarding was like at Crate Escape and Renee's answer was a MINIMUM of 6 hours! AND IT'S PRACTICALLY THE SAME PRICE, PEOPLE! Crate Escape is the BEST KEPT SECRET IN NAPERVILLE! If you love your dog and you want the best for them, do yourself a favor and take them to Crate Escape. You (and your dog) will be so glad you did! Also, just wanted to comment about the other reviewer seeing her dog caged. . .this has NEVER happened to me in the 3+ years we have been going. I have seen a dog caged maybe once or twice in all the years I've gone. One time I did inquire as to why a dog was caged (the cage is right near the door where the staff bring animals out) and the staff member said they typically cage a dog for a few minutes at the end of the night if they have to clean up a mess or if they have multiple dogs they are trying to checkout all at the same time. I personally don't like crates and my dogs are rarely confined to small spaces (car/cage/crate/bathroom) so this is a big deal to me. I want my dogs to run free at all times and I know this happens 99.9% of the time at Crate Escape. And I completely disagree with the "no active dogs" comment. It's ridiculous. I have two dogs that are EXTREMELY active. That's the reason they go everyday. If they laid around, I would leave them at home. Do the dogs lay around at daycare? Of course! Have you ever seen a dog play?? They play actively for 30-45 minutes and then they have to rest. They are pooped. And then they do it all over again! Unfortunately, I know Crate Escape does have to sometimes turn dogs away and, yes, I have met an owner who this happened to. That's got to be hard for any dog owner to hear. But, I also know that I have NO IDEA how our dogs act around other dogs - only around my family. I'm thankful the Crate Escape does turn dogs away no matter how hard it is. I know Renee has my dogs' best interests at heart. read more

I have used The Crate Escape over the past two years and have always had an excellent experience. My dog comes home from "daycare" happy and tired. The staff is attentive and caring. The owner, Renee, does an excellent job at personality testing the dogs to make sure that the dogs are compatible in a group setting. I am not sure what the person in the other review was thinking. I have been coming to Crate Escape since it was opened - over 5 years. The owners have been trained in emergency first-aid for dogs. They are great dog lovers. As operators their responsibility is to the safety of all dogs that come to the center. If they feel a dog is tired or becoming aggressive or overly excited and needs to be isolated from the population - they will put the dog in a separate pen - not a cage. This protects all dogs. If you are looking for a place that you know your dog will be well cared for and protected - I cannot recommend Crate Escape enough. read more

The Crate Escape is amazing! Having recently moved to the suburbs, yet still working in the city, finding a quality establishment to watch and care for our puppy while we were gone (11+ hrs a day) was very important to my husband and I. Ever since we started taking our puppy there, each morning we find our puppy waiting by the door, eager to be taken to the Crate Escape where she is greeted by friendly and caring staff in addition to her many dog friends that can't wait to play with. I don't have to be there all day to know how much fun our puppy is having...the staff are happy to tell you about her day, you can see pictures of the dogs playing on the website and best of all our puppy is exhausted at days end from all the activity! As I think about the staff, there have been several instances where they have gone above and beyond to ensure the health and safety of our active puppy. They keep a watchful eye on all the dogs. In my case, they shared with me the puppy teeth that fell out, notified me when her stool is very loose (possibly indicating a sickness), and took our puppy to the vet on our behalf when we couldn't leave work and get back to the suburbs in time. Just today, I dropped our puppy off letting them know she has been scratching a lot the night before and they called me at work to let me know that she was having an allergic reaction to something (they observed swelling and redness on her belly) and that they were going to take her to the vet since they knew I had a busy work day and that my husband was out of town, therefore, unable to make the trip back to the suburbs in time to give our dog the medical treatment she required. All of this, and much, much more makes me a happy and loyal customer. I couldn't ask for a better place to send my dog. Each day I know she is in good, loving hands.
