Figured I'd update this again since it's been a few years. Sorghum is still the best, no question…read moreabout it. Prices have gone up quite a bit from years past, but I did notice a lot more helpers this year so that's probably why. This years 8.5" ft tree was $155. We had a very easy time start to finish and the trees are looking much more manicured and full as opposed to years past. So basically, higher cost, but better quality all around. Here's what you need to know: *Skip the pre cut trees up front, they aren't even from Oklahoma, sneaky sneaky. *Come the weekend before thanksgiving to pretag your tree to guarantee best selection. *Bring a sawzall or similar tool when you come to cut it down or you'll have a hard time using their tired old hand saws. *Explore all the fields and have fun, but remember people are creatures of habit so some of the best trees are right up front and get walked past in pursuit of grass on the greener side. *Try to find a tree close to the outside walkways so you don't have to drag it around waiting for a helper in a cart. *Take a pic of the sold tag once paid. *Take a pic of where your tree is located and some reference pics, esp if not picking up same day. *If you're here just to take family pics, read their website as they have special dates for that. If you do this during regular hours and without buying a tree, they'll be pissed and for good reason due to the foot traffic you're blocking as well as you're standing in front of their product someone wants to buy. How this place actually works: You enter and walk the entire acreage on your own. All trees are tagged with a serial number, price and measurement. Enjoy the smells and sights, it's a beautiful place. After you find the tree you want, take the bottom half of the tag with you back up front to pay for it. They will give you a sold tag, the bottom part of the tag now with your name on it, and red ribbon to mark the tree. Make sure you get 2 tags back with one marked sold as sometimes the helpers are new and forget. You keep the third sold tag - DONT LOSE IT - and put the other tag and ribbon on your tree to mark it. You can pick up anytime after thanksgiving and take it home. Ours has always lasted at least 5 weeks so we grab ours asap. When you go to pick up, which can be the same day once paid, you just go straight to it and cut it down yourself. Bring it back up front to the crew to wrap and drill it. They have people on carts circling the acreage so you don't have to physically carry it. They also will cut it for you if you're so inclined, they also provide saws. Once it is up front, you get back in your vehicle and join the pick up line while they prep it. They have crew to tell you where to go, just drive slow and watch for them and kiddos. When it's your turn, you give them your sold ticket and they do the loading for you! It'll be wrapped and drilled for you already as well. It can be kind of intimidating if you're new, and the crew is mostly teenagers who aren't always the most informed, though they're usually always kind. But give it a try and bring LOTS of patience as it is always busy and a little chaotic at times. You won't regret it!

Don't get me wrong, the service is always fantastic. There is always someone to greet you, and ask…read moreif you need anything. Other than that, this was a sub par experience. We have been going to Sorghum for over 20 years, and stopped about 4 years ago due to the quality of the trees going down hill. We buy 4 trees as a family, with the biggest being 15'. Not only were the trees all the most we have paid in 5 years, but they did not even shake the trees when prepping them. It took longer to clean up after bringing the tree inside than it did to find it. They also told us there were plenty of 15' trees to cut ourselves and there weren't any. Pretty disappointed in what this has become, a bunch of pre cut trees, that completely takes away from the magic of what this place used to be. Needless to say, we will be taking our business back to Norman next year. Thanks.

It's a beaut, Clark! Last night, my husband and I went to…read morethe tree farm for an outdoor movie; Christmas Vacation. We hadn't been before, but we were in mind to try something different for a date night. As the weather was expected to be in the 40s temp., we donned our plaid shirt jackets, gloves, caps, etc. we took a large heavy blanket and some old fashioned thermos bottles full of decaf coffee. Once there, we felt like we stepped into quite an experience. The movie was showing and there were nice rows and rows of camping chairs full of people intently watching. (We arrived a few minutes late). What was strange is that it was eerily quiet! We found a place to spread our blanket and then settled in to watch. We laughed out loud at all the many parts that were so funny, however no one else laughed! How could this be?!? It was so silent. If it wasn't so cold you would have heard crickets! We continued to laugh, trying not to break the spell everyone was under. During the movie, we grabbed two sandwiches and two waters from the food truck.. Almost $25! They were okay, but too high for the quality. Also, we were very excited about having a hot piece of pie and sipping coffee. This food truck only served cold, cream pies. While very good, not ideal for this outdoor weather. The tree farm had a large fire pit. If you needed to warm a bit. Overall, we had a great time sitting outdoors, laughing (albeit alone and surrounded by ghostly figures wrapped in blankets all slumped in chairs), and sipping coffee while watching a great Christmas classic. The event was extremely well organized. Thank you to the Wells family for making this possible. We would definitely recommend, and perhaps make this a new tradition! We'll bring friends next time! By the way.... Why is the picnic blanket all wet, Todd?!?

Also, there is an opportunity to cut your own tree or to choose from their pre-cut selections. After I told him what I needed he said go straight to the cashier tell them what you need and they will ring it up. The orchid I chose at TLC had a couple of areas on the leaves that looked like cotton. I took it back to the information desk and the women wiped off the white area and told me it would be fine. My husband purchased the orchid for me for $60.00. Unfortunately, the white chalky substance kept coming back. I googled the information and found out it had mealybugs. I followed the directions to clean the area with alcohol. After trying to remove it for two months without success, I took the plant back to TLC today to ask for help. Paul, the manager was at the front door and told me to go to the middle of the store to talk to the woman at the information desk. She determined the mealybugs were in the potting media which is why I could not eliminate them with alcohol. She said she could repot the orchid but there would be a cost. Obviously, the potting media was infected when the orchid was purchased two months ago. I was insulted when told I would have to pay for the repotting process. I spoke with the manager, Paul, and he told me house plants do not have any type of warranty. I learned a lesson today. I will not buy house plants from TLC! I will buy them at a business that carries a warranty for a third of the cost! Susan M Reply to Frank on July 18 Frank, I would appreciate a retraction on your response. The orchid WAS purchased at TLC on May 6! The above story is accurate except for the amount spent ($50 instead of $60). I had not looked up the receipt before coming by TLC yesterday. The reference number on the receipt is 32073802. The total amount spent that day was $122.70. I have 6 very healthy orchids purchased at different locations. The white pot left with the orchid must have been switched while watering. The orchid purchased from Whole Foods is healthy and doing well. Actually, over the years I have never had a problem with an orchid being affected with mealybugs except for the orchid purchased at TLC. One statement you made is correct. This is the first review I have made on YELP because I wanted to let others know that customer service is questionable at your business. I understand policy is policy on the return of houseplants. I was not upset until being told there would be a charge to repot the plant. It didn't make sense for me as the customer, to pay to correct a problem that I wasn't responsible for. It would have cost very little for your employee to offer to repot the plant for free.

Our purpose today was to look at some of their products and do some comparing to see exactly what we needed for a future project we would be doing. Our family has been using the supplies that are sold here for sometime. We have purchased landscaping rock, aka chop, along with mulch, flagstone and crushed rock with screenings. We have done many home-improvement projects over the years and we always enjoy the fabulous customer service that we get each time we visit Minick materials. In fact today, the staff was so sweet and kind as to give each of my children a gift from under their Christmas tree! My youngest daughter felt that gesture was extremely thoughtful and all were so grateful. The pros: Excellent products, top rate customer service, extremely professional employees, highly knowledgeable staff, prices are very reasonable and finally they make obtaining what you need hassle free. They do offer delivery but we have always used our trailer to pick up our purchase. I have even sent my landscaper over to have him pick items up and with a simple phone call I can pay over the phone so that he can deliver them to my house. I cannot think of any cons about this business at all. I hope you enjoy your visit to Minick materials as much as we do.
