We've lived here for 3 years and didn't realize what we were missing out on until our neighbors invited us to go to The Quarterdeck to listen to Clay Underwood. Wow...it was great. The first time we went...he was by himself and it was fabulous. The second time we went, he had a band with him and it was equally fabulous. We took my inlaws there when they were in town and they had a great time. Make sure to check out the schedule when he is in town and to go early. He's not here year around so you have to get lucky and time it just right. Though from what we have heard, their other artists are equally stellar. Tables do fill up fast when Winter Texans are here or it is the rush of summer, so make sure to go early. They do serve a light menu of items (sandwiches, quesadillas, burgers, etc) that are pretty reasonable and tasty. Drinks during happy hour are great prices and even outside of happy hour...they are reasonable. I do believe happy hour runs 5 to 9. This is located inside Isla Grand Beach Resort. This will definitely become a new favorite hangout when we are in town! read more

My friends and I have been coming to Quarterdeck for the 4th of July for multiple years in a row, and we've always had an amazing time. It's become one of our favorite holiday traditions, which is why this year was such a disappointment. We were excited to see DJX and Live Wire, expecting a fun, high-energy show, but unfortunately that wasn't our experience. For one of the biggest holidays of the year, there was very little interaction with the crowd that actually added to the entertainment. Instead of focusing on performing, the female singer repeatedly left the stage and spent long periods walking through the audience. At one point, she was asking people for tips over a discussion about Tupac vs. Biggie--something that had nothing to do with the beach, the 4th of July, or creating a fun atmosphere for the crowd. A man who appeared to be with her, but was not part of the band, followed her around asking people the same questions. The interactions throughout the night felt more personal than professional. Members of our group felt uncomfortable because some of the conversations and attention directed toward our male friends came across as flirtatious rather than focused on entertaining the audience. Whether that was the intent or not, it created an awkward atmosphere that took away from the experience. The male singer did a great job and kept the music going, but unfortunately the female singer's performance felt disengaged and not genuine. We came to celebrate the 4th of July with a band that would bring energy, interact with the crowd, and make the night memorable. Instead, it felt like the focus was everywhere except on putting on a great show. We've never left Quarterdeck disappointed before, but this year was different. We sincerely hope this was just an off night because we've always loved spending the 4th of July here, but this year's entertainment was a huge letdown. read more

If I could give negative I would. Imagine trying to enjoy some live music. You and your group order drinks. (Alcohol). Mind you the band goes on at 9pm. Drinks are flowing. Everyone is having a great time. You have ONE designated driver out of 5 who just wants a water...they will charge you $2.50 for that water. Yes a small price to pay when our bill was $220 but that is absolutely ridiculous that you will REFUSE to serve tap water. They have it there in at the bar. Good luck. This should be illegal at any bar. read more

We heard about this place from a friend. So I decided to look at the Yelp reviews and found that there was nothing recent and not much of anything factual. So here are some things you need to know. This venue is located on the second floor of the Isla grande hotel. We got there just after 8 PM on a Sunday and found that is when they stop serving food, but I was told you can bring in your own food from another source. Those under 21 are allowed until 10pm. Their drinks are reasonably priced and they do serve free popcorn. Their craft beer selection consisted of three offerings from Karbach Brewing and that was it besides the usual big brands. By 9 PM the second act comes on and people start to hit the small dance floor. There was no cover, so the tip jar was waiting near the stage. This venue has at least two dozen four top tables and numerous TVs tuned to different sports channels. It is fairly dark and the music can be somewhat loud depending on the act. So if you're looking for some decent live music on the island, it's certainly worth trying. The pictures below tell the rest of the story. read more

This place was always fun, even as a local. The staff was nice and the crowd was fun. Last night, I experienced something different. The bartender acted like she was in such a hurry that she couldn't be bothered by me asking for a specific here - which they didn't have. The look and have me was very insulting and I passed on getting a drink because I didn't want to deal with it. Then we sat at a high top table that was empty except for a few used bar napkins.. Just to be approached by staff and told that someone was shooting there but were outside smoking. Twenty minutes later the table still eat empty. I'm sorry but there are several good options around the island, so I won't rush back to this one. read more

We visited the Quarterdeck Lounge on a Wednesday night and had a wonderful time! Kids had cherry cokes from the bar and queso to munch on during the crab races. While they loved their sweet drinks the queso wasn't very good, would not recommend. The complimentary popcorn was spicy and delicious. Our whole family enjoyed the crab races and 3 out of the 6 of us won a round. The place was pretty packed during the races but then cleared out quickly after. We stuck around to watch the live music. The band was A Sure Thing, out of Houston. They were great and played a mix of tunes, including a request from the crowd. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. If you're in town, especially on a Wednesday night with kiddos, I would recommend checking this place out! read more

Reserved table for the manager Mr. Bill Donahue and no tables for patrons. Went in on a Thursday night and it was packed. We found a table finally, and unfortunately, it was reserved at 11:00 at night. When I asked the bar maid who this was reserved for,and if they were coming , she stated "her boss"- Bill Donahue. This is part of the Isla Grand Resort on SPI. I was actually very pleased with the entertainment in this bar. It has a very old time bar atmosphere, but it is clean and it works well with the resort. The family joined them for their Monday night football and $5 taco bar. It was great and the service was good. Then it followed up with live entertainment. Everyone was dancing and having a good time. There were quite a few senior adults there and may have been snowbirds staying on SPI for the winter. The drinks are good, but a little pricey for the bar. The second night we saw a band and the whole place was dancing and having a good time. It was nice to be able to have teens in the place where they could dance. read more

Went to the bar here for a live band because a local recommended it. Arrived and first impressions my husband and I had was this was a nice place. We sat and ordered a couple beers and the music started. As my husband ordered a second beer our waitress came and told us we needed to move because the owner was there and wanted our seats! Now the bar is full so my husband asks where we should move to and her response is I don't care! The table never had a card on it that said reserved and we are paying customers that would have easily dropped a chunk of money considering a can of beer was almost $5! In my opinion the "owner" could have found another place Bc he just lost money in an off season from tourists. We immediately cashed out and left and will never return or recommend this place to anyone. read more

Keep on coming back to the Quarterdeck for the music, dancing, and free popcorn!! Seriously, they put something addictive on the popcorn. Live bands, a sailor dancing his feet away, and plenty if people watching will ensure you have a great time at the quarterdeck, if you go on the right night. We came here and had a great time. It was packed with winter texans and boy those folks know how to have fun. Clay Underwood is a great singer and takes requests. He even played "I've been everywhere" from Johnny Cash like a pro when my daughter made the request. The band (platinum cafe) after 9 are awesome too. I have been many times to this bar. There is always a great dance band, although the music can be a bit on the loud side. But yes, drinks can be weak, and service on a busy night is not good. BUT THE WORST PART of this PLACE is the SMOKE!!! OMG when will South Padre Island declare smoke free?!! I love dancing , but the next day, I cough like I have smoked 3 packs. Withing a time frame of 5 months I've been 2 times, the place is really nice, the live music is great. I am giving 3-star rating just because the service. The place is really nice to go hang out and have a couple of drinks. But every time I've been there there has been an issue with service, what was suppose to be the third time I try the lounge, security guy was very rude, I was with my girlfriend and another couple, and the gentleman told us that the place was on its occupancy limit, and that if we want it to get in we'll have to wait. Not the same answer that he gave the group of people that arrived just after us. We asked if there was some kind of reservation and he just ignore us. We went every late night during our stay on property at the Isla Grand. Loved the live music by Sweet Trouble band out of Missouri. All very talented musicians. The female lead singer must play at least a dozen different instruments. One guitarist could "shred"...great cover of Stevie Ray! No smoking, inside. Lots of smoking outside on the deck. Order drinks at the bar, then find your table. Not much in the way of table side service, but if you tip well at the outset, you will be well cared for. Dance floor was PACKED on Saturday night. I can imagine this is a popular place during Spring Break when the weather allows for outdoor on-deck performances. read more

The draft beer is terrible. Even at a happy hour price of $2.50 12 oz. the draft is flat and tasteless. On three different visits, on different days, the result was the same. There is some kind of defect in their storage and dispensing system for draft beer. ALSO, beware, don't know if smoking is legal in this club, but it is permitted. The bartender in the front bar was a complete a**hole and would not look you in the eye. He was slow and incompetent. He took forever to make simple drinks.
