Has a great selection of radical kids books which is so helpful as a little free library steward :-) Staff is nice and helpful and thankfully balances the best interest of the cats with being service minded. So glad the cats have a room where they can get away from people if they're not in the mood to be friendly. read more

I came here on Saturday April 25th for Indie Bookstore Day and this place was PACKED. It was hard to navigate to the fiction shelf as there were so many people looking for new books to add to their collections. My genre of choice is Romance and I did not see a dedicated Romance section. Luckily, "House of Cotton" was on my TBR, as I had bought and gifted it a few years ago. So I snagged it and paid. The two workers behind the cash wrap were friendly and took the time to make me feel like I was the only patron in the store, despite what was probably an onslaught for the day. Rad Cat also has a curated selection of stationary and journals to choose from if that's something you're also in the market for. They have a section for cats you can interact with, however with the amount of people that came through on this day, the cats were also overwhelmed and weren't able to be interacted with. My favorite bookstore!! I first heard about this place as it's one of the rare bookstores in all of the US that has both books and cats!!! There's a quiet room in the back where there's a few cats up for adoption. This way if you're allergic or whatnot, you don't have to worry about any cats wandering around (though personally, I'm totally cool with that!) I love their selection, they have such a diverse selection in all of the genres. It's such a treat to come visit because I can always find books I haven't seen yet! They have a wide selection of merch, like soap, stickers, pins, and more. The decor is so cute; last time I went there were so many origami cats everywhere! I also LOVE how connected they are with the community; they have a list serve you can sign up to get a monthly newsletter of all the cool events they have! Today was my first day visiting The Radical Cat! I lost my cat about 9 months ago and it was so nice to go in and get/give some attention! Books and cats! Perfect combination! I left with books, but it was tough to leave the kitty behind. I'm not quite ready for another unless she is a traveling cat! Wonderful staff and they have a nice selection of books, cards, etc... The Radical Cat can order books for you too, anything that the big box store can get you. I am impressed with the instore selection focusing on our personal identities and experiences. They have a kids section as well as unusual gift items. Our world is richer with independent bookstores in the neighborhood. read more

This is such a great concept- purrfectly executed! The Radical Cat has been open for about three weeks and already, two cats have been adopted! This is an excellent bookstore with some niche subjects- feminism, social justice and activism, antiracism, and more. There's fiction and nonfiction, new and used books, and even a children's section. It's small but packed with the good stuff- just don't come looking for the latest popular romance novel- it's not that kind of store. It is a comfy cozy space to read, chat, or hang put with cats! The cat area (which is cool, made out of old windows and stuff) is a separate enclosed area. There's comfy seating in there too and plenty of toys, cat trees etc. so you can spend time with the cats and get to know them in a relaxed way. I went close to closing time (6 pm) so I didn't get to spend too much time hanging out, but I am looking forward to a return visit very soon! Easy parking, friendly helpful owner, so love that this exists in Reno now! read more

I absolutely adore this bookstore! They have a brilliant selection, which makes it very hard to not walk away with an arm load of books. When I had gone in the couple of cats they had were very shy so I didn't see them, but this is my favorite bookstore business combination ever :-) They had a really wonderful selection of books about US history from native and African-American perspective and a really, really really wonderful kids section. My kids love bookstores and cats, so visiting the Radical Cat was right up our alley. The owner helped introduce our kids to the cats and taught them a bit about how to read cat body language. We purchased two books for our kids (ages 8 and 10) and a lovely, soft t-shirt. Visiting the cats is free, unlike other cat cafes I've been to. Overall we have a lovely visit this morning and then grabbed a drink at the Magpie Cafe next door. We will definitely be back for more books and cat petting. They even invited our kids to come do their homework in the cat room once school starts back up! read more

SUCH AN AMAZING CUTE LITTLE SHOP! Even just the book store alone! it's super cute and full of a really great selection of reading material. The kid's section is especially incredible full of lots of really positive messages for the next generation to grow up on! I didn't get to see any kitties, because *drumroll* the kitties are adoptable! and seemed to have all found homes! i'm hoping to pop back in when i'm ready for a new book and maybe i'll get to visit some purrfect babies that time! Excellent book selection, within the framework of the self-directed individual and society. Some books you might not expect - I picked up an in-stock copy of The Body Keeps the Score. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The cat area is chef's kiss! A rotating kitty residency is securely enclosed in a lovely, well-ventilated visiting area. The cats there when I went -- I wanted to take them HOME, they were so sweet. Which of course is the point; they're up for adoption. We picked this book shop out of every other one in the area for our weekend in Reno and were SO let down we almost immediately called a Lyft to leave to go to another similar book shop (Which was so wonderful but much further away!). Walking in we weren't greeted by the clerk, the book selection was very limited/niche and there were no cats in sight. We weren't offered any help and not a word was said when we departed despite being the only customers to come to the store right at 10am opening- we felt unwelcome and like we were intruding. No idea how this store has been in business for several years but it's a hard pass from these book store aficionados. read more

I love shopping at local and cool shops in places that I usually never come to. I have to admit I was a little worried that I wouldn't find any in Reno, but boy was I wrong. The Radical Cat is an amazing idea and super well thought of. Books and cats, two of my favorite and plenty of other peoples favorites things too are combined into one super fun experience! The cats are very much people friendly and are awesome to read your books with. They have a wide variety of books with main characters of different ethnicities, sexualities, and religions all books that look amazingly interesting! Best cat cafe in town! This space is great for the community. They have an amazing selection of progressive, abolitionist, and antiracist books, including a great selection for children. They hold awesome events for all ages and it's always such a chill environment. They never have too many cats in their lounge, and respect the cats' space when they go to hide, which is great for the cats' welfare. You can tell the owners truly care about this place and the cats, and they definitely put a lot of heart into it. read more
