This is the most well-stocked Barnes & Noble bookstore I have ever been in. Their fiction section was incredibly diverse and had a lot of my favorite authors. The shelves were brimming and there was plenty of staff on hand to help find things and answer questions. Normally, I am an independent bookstore supporter and I do still buy the majority of my books from smaller independent booksellers. Unfortunately, I haven't found an independent bookstore in Nevada -- North or South -- that compares to the likes of Vroman's in Pasadena (if you have a recommendation, I am all ears). That said, if you are in the Reno area and want a brick and mortar bookstore with a huge selection, this is the place. And they do offer some decent discounts, so keep an eye out for the books that have been marked down. I was able to pick up a first edition of Patti Smith's new memoir at 50% off! read more

We stopped by Barnes & Noble because my niece was in search of a particular novel. When we entered the store, it very neat and orderly; every section was meticulously organized. The employees were nice, particularly the young lady that helped my niece; she patiently looked up the title of the book even though my niece didn't have all the information. While inside Barnes & Noble, we also stopped by Starbucks to indulge in some sweet treats before making our way out the store. I love going to Barnes and Nobel. Books are always fun, but they have such a wide selection of other things as well that you can browse for hours. Grab a coffee and a book and you're set to go for awhile. Great place to pick up a gift. Sometimes the lines to check out are super long, and if the staff is on top of things, you can get through quickly. Sometimes they are not so efficient and it gets a little frustrating. read more

Ladies, please beware of roaming clerks when putting things in and out of your purse while in-store. Despite the door alarms and the surveillance camera, I was accused of shoplifting when I put back my iphone in my purse after a reminder alarm on my calendar rang. I was asked what I had put in my bag and that it was the staff job to confront suspected shoplifters. Of course there was nothing because I had taken nothing. I used to like B&N for their cafe and cute but overpriced stationary and while shoplifting are on the increase, there are better ways to handle this. If she had really paid attention, she would have heard my phone, and a camera would showed I was only handling my phone. No major chain stores in town deal with shoplifters in this way and I know some have taken quite a hit. B&N must really be desperate to resort to human hounds. They happened to have what I wanted at a discounted price but I walked away. read more

I went to the store today and bought $95.00 worth of coffee, books, and a gift certificate. Upon cashing out a very unsympathetic clerk told me that they didn't have any small envelops for the gift cards. After explaining to her that It's not appropriate to just hand someone a gift card, her best solution was to offer me a large brown paper bag. I asked for her manager and as she went to find the manager I overheard her say that I had an attitude, because I asked her for a gift card envelope! She never came back to me, but after waiting more than 10 minutes I did find the manager. He said the best he could do was to offer me 50% discount on a greeting card off the shelf. I asked him if it was the best customer service he could offer me? He just stared at me and said nothing, so I left. What a cheapo, overpriced organization this has turned in to. read more

I love bookstores and I love stores who provide services like putting something on hold for you to pick up tomorrow. I had a choice. Order from Amazon, have it delivered to home so I can wrap before heading to a party OR buy local, wrap in my car (note: wrapping service has NOT been brought back since Covid) then head to the party. Same price either way. But local is a nice thing to do and It's on the way. So that was my plan. I was told on the phone last night to go to the register it would be there. Yeah. Right. I waited in line ten minutes get to the register and there's nothing. She says it didn't go into the system but they have it so I can go upstairs and get it. I ask if I need to wait in line once back down. No question. Yes. I have to wait in line. Folks, your employee told me over the phone she'd put the product under my name and hold for me. Even the POST OFFICE lets you jump the line if you've been in it already and something goes awry. Ok. I'm torn between just leaving or going up to find the gift. Really, not the cashiers fault. Grumble grumble, I'm going to be late. I go upstairs and start looking for the title. Not in any of the center tables, finally I see it. Up THERE. Maybe THAT'S WHY THE GAL THE NIGHT BEFORE DID NOT PUT BEHIND COUNTER? I look for a sales representative. Nada. I look for a ladder. Nope. Ah, a round stool with a step up. I can do this. Very carefully I reach up and get one. The last one then slips so far back no one but a basketball player would be able to see it, so I reach for it, while balancing with my two replaced hips no less, and pull it to the front of the shelf. Ok. Got the gift. Not happy I'll have to wait in line again, I peek over the balcony railing and there's only like two people in line! Great! Only a 20 minute stop where I had planned 10 max. Only need to wrap in the car and I'll not be too late. NOPE! Got down the escalator and low and behold there's another line about 7 minutes. But at least they've called up another cashier who I got, she was quick, good thing cuz if I got the other girl from before she would not have been happy with me. It's always very easy to find the types of books you're looking for, and there's a section in this store for every type of book you could think of! The layout of the store was also very nice for moving around the store and not getting lost! It's also very well stocked without any empty spaces! This is a great place to go to get some books! This two-story building was hard to find what I wanted at first I did ask for some assistance and they walked me to the exact opposite side of the building that I was in. I really like this store, but it's a mess. Books are thrown everywhere and some are not categorized correctly at all. I blame some on the customers, but it appears that the employees either don't care, or pay attention to details. Also, the escalator is broken. It's been broken since last summer. The only way up stairs is through a noisy elevator that sounds like it's on its last legs too. It appears as if the management quit trying since they ran all of their competition. I sure hope someone reads this and steps up their game. read more

I enjoy this Barnes and noble a lot. Quiet music, well lit, mostly friendly associates (however, when I say "thank you" for my drink or what-have-you, the associate will rarely respond. Saying "you're welcome" is easy to do, and it costs nothing - I always say it when someone thanks me). They also seem to have an aversion to hiring males. I've always enjoyed coming to this store. The store is large and they have an excellent selection of books as well as gifts/stationary. I can always find a new/fun journal each time I go. They did recently rearrange the store, so it's a little bit of a challenge to find what you're looking for if you don't come frequently. The upstairs has a great section for kids and some fun things for them to play with as well. Continued my dvd finding mission with my son, and Barnes and Noble has a huge selection in the back. Nice bookstore where you can grab a coffee, grab a book and relax for a spell. The book section of this store is quite lovely and a wise selection, book sellers are helpful. The problem with this place is really the cafe. I went today before work and ordered a pretzel, macaroni and cheese, and a venti brown sugar oat milk shaken espresso. The pretzel came out fast no problem. The drink tasted so incredible strong and i understand that sometimes you mess up drinks, so i asked for some more milk to put in my coffee. The main issue is that I had to wait over 30 minutes for microwaved mac and cheese. The people working there just said okay, and it was pretty clear that they do not enjoy their jobs at all. I'm not saying they necessarily have to, but as someone who works in customer service, i felt ultimately judged and brushed off by complaining for a 30 minute wait on microwaved food. read more

With thousands of books to choose from, Barnes and Noble is the best! I love coming here, getting a coffee and sinking down into a chair on a quiet isle to read some Dean Koontz. But the gothic looking woman at the cafe counter was a bit off putting. I ordered a peppermint mocha and crispy grilled cheese sandwich to enjoy while reading my thriller novel. She looks at me and says, "Crispy? I don't know about a crispy one...we just run it through a warmer over there... it isn't 'crispy'." She said laughing and condescendingly, as if I had ordered some crazy item she'd never heard of before. No dude. It's called a crispy grilled cheese on the menu. You work here and don't know that? Her tone of voice was completely unnecessary as well. Alas...the sandwich and coffee were good though, and I love being able to sit and read for as long as I'd like. It does however make me kinda sad that they won't let me sit on the floor to read. I know it has to do with the pandemic probably... but there's nothing better than sitting in a corner to read for me. The chairs are wooden, small, and so uncomfortable. read more

Staff at checkout were super unfriendly and had no customer service skills. Had a terrible experience.

In the past few months i've left probably 7 different times stressed and annoyed. I try to shop here to help with the dying of bookstores. But omggg the customer service here is awful. Don't ever expect to breeze through the checkout - at minimum you're going to be waiting 20 min. And unfortunately, that's not an exaggeration. Twice now i've placed an order for pickup- the first time was such a fiasco, but i chalked it up to a one time experience. The second time, however, was just as bad. The first time she kept insinuating, that I was completely lying about placing an order. After 13 mins of confusion, they suddenly found it - without an apology for making me feel stupid. Just now, i called and this was the convo: " hi, I was just wondering if there's anyway you could check on an online order that I placed over two hours ago, I need it within the next 30 minutes before getting on a plane and I just wanted to see if it would be ready." - me "what do you mean?" - her (no nice customer voice or anything.) " I placed an order under ______ at 1:44pm and i was wondering if it's ready." - me "i don't know what you want from me.. check your email." - her THEN SHE HUNG UP LMAO. I'm literally so shocked all i can do is laugh. The one plus? These mean employees are great at keeping the place clean and organized. But just beware... they hate us idiot customers read more

Gimme all the books! I can't be too mad that Barnes and Noble never has the books I'm looking for in store because I always find 3 to 5 books that make their way back home and keep me occupied while I wait for my online ordered books to arrive. I adore bookstores, I could literally spend all day here and be the happiest girl in all of the land. My husband knows this, and so we make a point to have "date days" where we go to lunch and then come to Barnes and Noble for an hour or two to browse and buy new books to fill our brains with all the words. This Barnes and Noble has changed a bit over the years but they still have a great selection of books, magazines, journals, gifts, children's toys and helpful employees. Right now they are doing a book drive for underprivileged children and we donated the book "Pig the elf" it looked absolutely adorable and I hope it makes some little child out there who wants to read smile all day. With that said, it is troubling that every time I attempt to purchase a book AT the store they never seem to have it - they can always order it for my and I can pick it up in a few days.
