French Immersion School of Washington - A student celebrated Greek Easter and show us a bear from Greece

French Immersion School of Washington

(8 reviews)

Our twin boys are currently enrolled at French Immersion school of Washington for the last 3 years…read moreand we love the community - very diverse and ground to earth. As a family although we aren't native French speakers, however our kids learnt the language so quickly. It's an excellent bilingual immersion school, which offers a strong academic curriculum in both French and English in an experiential learning approach via projects related to Art, Science, Mathematics, Sports, History etc... throughout the year, field trips, outside in authors visiting to talk to students along with exchange opportunities with schools in France. French Immersion school of Washington is one of the most diverse schools in the greater Seattle area. I would strongly recommend the school for families who are considering Bilingual immersion program in the Greater Seattle area.

What differentiate this school from other bilingual schools or public schools? (1) The caliber of the teachers and staff. We were impressed with how well the school were run, the caliber, passion, and flexibility of teachers. (2) Small class with attentive teachers. Over the course of last 6 years, FISW helps to raise our kids to be open-minded, kind, inquisitive, adaptable, and curious about the world, students are simulated to learn through observation, inquiry, exploration, play and creation, vs pure memorization. The school also has many events and activities to bring the parents and community together. This is the best choice we've made.

Parents are heavily involved through volunteering, which creates a fantastic environment. The most important tenet of their mission is to teach kindness--something these children will take with them wherever they go. I have never heard of forced snacking, never mind on the floor--There is no Ms. Davis at the school now.

In 2017 Rachel Carson ranked better than 95.2% of all elementary schools in WA (school digger…read morewebsite) and are highly ranked in the state on other lists as well. I am almost reticent to share how fantastic this school is because I selfishly want to keep numbers down But, I feel like I need to write a review since the last review was written two years ago, about a teacher who is gone, based entirely on food (as opposed to academics, parent involvement, great staff etc). I cannot say enough good things about Carson. Academics are terrific and in particular our 4/5th grade teachers do a superior job of preparing kids for middle school. The staff is upbeat and nurturing, the actual facility itself is the most recently built in town, our options for after school programs are varied and great and we have a tremendous number of parents willing to volunteer. We are also one of only a couple elementary schools in town that participate in a several day and night outdoor education trip for 5th graders. I'm not sure a lot of kids get to dissect squid, canoe, use a climbing wall, take nature walks and enjoy nighttime bonfires as part of their elementary school education! I've put three children through Carson and wholeheartedly endorse it. And I have never had snack issues.

She is learning things, making friends, talking about her day with excitement, talking about her friends, and the activities she did. The staff, from the director to the teachers, are responsive and detail-oriented. I receive weekly update on the learning plan and menu. Before the pandemic, there were several events where parents can get involved, for some you can meet other parents. Now that we are in the pandemic, they have cancelled all the in-person events for parents and established stricter protocols in the center regarding drop-off and pick-ups, and parents cannot go pass the front desk anymore. I am actually fine with the protocols as long as they can keep the virus at bay, and they have. In conclusion, I would recommend this center to any parents! The hard lesson I learned during the pandemic is that a reliable daycare is absolutely key to the parents. Parents not only need time to work, they also need to know their kids are safe. Bright Horizons at the Highlands, has exceeded my expectation so far!

She had difficult time in adjusting in the beginning as she used to go another daycare in San Jose part time and suddenly going from part time to full time took a toll on her but teachers were warm enough to soothe my child so that she jells in with others sooner than later. We keep getting feedback from them time to time which is amazing. Thee only thing I am not a big fan off is cleanliness there I feel the facility can be kept a little more clean than what its today. Other than that all seems good to us so far.

Aster Montessori - ASTER MONTESSORI "Building a Strong Foundation"

Our youngest son has been attending this school since he was 3.5 years-old and potty-trained. He…read morewas very ready to ditch his large daycare in downtown Issaquah Highlands. I found Aster when it was recommended by the director of Sno-Springs School, near our home. I was admittedly skeptical as I was not particularly impressed by other Montessori schools on the Plateau and in the Highlands. Ms Aparna and her assistant director worked with me and my wife to devise a plan to acclimate our son to their environment and routine. We started with part-time enrollment in their summer camp program. My son immediately loved their large grassy and wooded play area, which was 3x bigger than his old daycare's concrete one. We then continued with Aster into the school year. Although it was very difficult for him at first, Aster Montessori was very patient with our headstrong son's adjustment to Montessori. He quickly improved his social skills ("grace and courtesy") and made good friends at the school. He looked forward to going to preschool each day. As parents we are pleased that our son is achieving his language & math milestones with ease -- he is ahead of his older sibs when they were in preschool -- we are most excited that he's maturing as person. That is, he is starting to understand and regulate his rather challenging temperament. I just wish Aster had been around when our daughters were in preschool! Pros: Happy and eager classmates Low turnover among the teaching staff; they are experienced, too Great communication with parents at pickup, by e-mail and during conference. Clean and bright classrooms Big playground for a small preschool Nurturing environment Many attendance options available Amazing music teacher Cons: Montessori not a natural fit for every personality (like my son's?) Can be difficult to get to know other parents Once-a-month snack duty (ok, not really a problem) Only offers preschool-to-kindergarten (i.e., 3-year 3-to-6 y.o. cycle through Kindergarten)

We have a very happy experience here, and we can see great improvement in his social, emotional and academic development, especially after he started kindergarten. Aster Montessori provides a family-style environment which is very caring, safe and cozy. My son and I fell in love with it when we toured the school, and this turns out to be a really wise choice for us! All of his teachers are nice and helpful to all kids. They love and respect my son and they teach him a lot with great patience, especially his lead teacher, also director of Aster Montessori. My son learned a lot about plants, animals, continents, countries, food, weather, every aspect about nature and science. Besides, he learned how to write numbers, letters, words and sentences, and how to do addition, subtraction and even multiplication. Aster Montessori is an amazing school which really helps lay a solid foundation for kids. Also, the music program is superb, every school concert was very impressive! Highly recommend!
