Gun range meets chic. Not a mix I normally expect. The place is dressed up nice, for sure, modern and sleek, but I wasn't all that in love with the actual range experience... which, isn't that WHY you come to a range? The facility simply doesn't have enough lanes. There were two separate rooms of lanes, but we all got sandwiched into one (I suspect one was reserved for lessons? But if no lessons are actively going on, why not spread people out?)... until every single lane was occupied. I admittedly prefer outdoor ranges where you can breathe and focus and don't feel cramped or rushed. The echos off everyone's firearms quickly gave me a headache because so many of them were using high caliber firearms and rapid firing them. Yeesh. Cost is pricey at $25/hr + $10 per additional user in the lane. Includes one paper target per person. They have a lot of advertised weekly specials, membership benefits, and monthly events. The employee we checked out with spoke really quickly... too quickly honestly, while explaining range rules and the like. There wasn't a line behind us or anything, so why not take the time to say things a little slower or make us feel welcomed with some friendly chit-chat? Idk, bad customer service in my opinion. Maybe I'm an "old soul." As a gun store, it's got a nice open floor plan, well-lit, with information readily available. They even have other stuff for sale like shirts, coffee, grilling spices. Not a great experience! They are 1/3. First trip I dropped off an upper & handguard, nice and easy. They held that upper for 8 months and didn't do the work requested because they didn't have the correct tool. Nobody called me, no updates, I had to call up twice to get this info. They admitted that they forgot about it. Second trip, I go pickup my upper & handguard that haven't been swapped. The girl at the front desk yells at me for "flagging her with a stripped upper". Not worth my time explaining that to an employee who obviously is clueless about guns. Third trip I went and shot with a buddy. Went well, indoor range is nice but gets crowded. read more

Definitely one of the nicest ranges I've been to but highly recommend. They have a great membership system lots of options for what you're looking for willing to talk to you about everything place to get educated. From the front desk to the range officers everybody is very friendly and wants the best for your environment. They have lots of classes available so you can learn the basics as well as advanced classes. I would not recommend this range to anyone. The wait times are outrageous, the prices are ridiculous, and the staff have some sort of god complex. I was told 1 hour wait time by one employee then a different employee told me 3 hours wait. When I asked for clarification on this discrepancy both workers proceeded to laugh at me and said "good luck shooting today without a membership". I believe they were upset I didn't purchase the membership when they both pitched it to me and I declined both times. The gun store employees aren't much better, I asked if they stocked a mag I was looking for in 17rd instead of the shorter 15rd variant, worker told me that didn't exist for the model of pistol I was talking about and said to buy the 15rd. With the power of google I showed him it does exist, at this point the worker says "that must be a aftermarket because the 17rd doesn't exist".... As I am showing him on the website. I've given this place 2 chances and it sucked both times. read more

This is a great place for shooters of EVERY skill level. From "never shot a gun, to, I own 500 guns". They make *everyone* feel welcome. The only condition is that you are happy to be there! They rent guns if you don't own any so you can "get your feet wet" and offer lots of different classes depending on what you are trying to learn. I just finished the LTC class with Frank and it was great. He was really patient with us and made sure we were there to LEARN and not to just "get through" the class. LOTS of emphasis on SAFETY. I've been with friends and solo and enjoyed both. They get pretty busy on the weekends so try to go during the week if you can. They sell ammo if you need it, along with lots of guns and gear. It's easy to get sucked into the vortex! Above all, everyone there is always helpful and friendly. Not a 'gun snob' in sight. Just lots of gun lovers who want to share the joy. read more

I visited the range at Austin on 1/15/2023. My first impression was that this place was clean and well-organized. The staff makes you sign a waiver. They also sold snacks such as chips and cookies by the front desk. The employees were kind and cracked a few jokes with my buddies. I loved this banter! It was my first time at a shooting range in Austin, and the employees made it a memorable experience. Inside the actual shooting area, I practiced my craft and felt like I was in a safe space. The equipment at this facility is top-notch. They carry various products that range from apparel to eye protection and even training. There's some staff who are super nice and helpful but it's the ones up front who are just awful. I just had an old lady who works at the front desk yell at me after I asked if she could open the case so I could examine the knives, she proceeded to ignore me and my request so I opened up the case because it was not locked, and then she screamed at me and it was very alarming and this is not the first time something like this has happened with the sales staff at the range. I'm gonna take my business somewhere else. Super unfortunate that I've been met with such terrible attitudes from the front desk staff. 0/10 read more

Driving past this place you might think it is corporate office building or a fancy workout location... but certainly not a gun range! What an awesome place. Well decked out, well displayed, and really showing more of a high end look then what I imagined or have seen before for a gun range. (There is a vip area that truly vip! Bar, seating, meeting rooms, etc) My wife and I and 2 other of our best friend couples all decided we were going to go target shoot. One of our couple friends is a member here so we chose to come here. I can't stress how nice the facility is! It is really spacious, upscale, and friendly! I have never shot anything other then a shot gun (and hadn't dine that since I was a teen), my wife has never shot, and one other of our friend had never shot either. The others in our group not only had shot before, but also brought their own guns and equipment. You can get everything here... ear protection, eye protection, rent guns, buy ammo, even get classes. They have it all. Our friends had plenty of stuff for us to all use, so we just paid the lane fees and got some eye protection, ammo and ear muffs. For 6 of us it was right at about 120$ to shoot on two lanes. We got set up... got some instructions from our friends... and shot for the first time. My friends told me that I am a natural shot... like I've been doing it for years... I don't know about that but I can say it was a BLAST! My wife is a dead eye shot and if not the best shot out of the group right there at the top! Not too bad for a newbie. She really is an excellent shot! We where here for just over an hour and a half. We shot a 9mm hand gun, a 10mm hand gun, a 9mm folding gun, and a 22mm target gun. My wife and I are still talking about the experience and now planning our next trip to the range... As a tourist from California, this place was a must for our hosts to take us to experience! Our friends were much more knowledgeable on helping us load the guns and setting up the targets that all we had to do was point and shoot til we needed to reload! There is so much to look at on display and even just watching others was so fascinating. I can see large groups really enjoying this place just to get out and socialize. Definitely recommend that you come with folks that know their stuff if you're as newbie as I am. And make sure you've got a friend to take cool photos of ya aiming for your target! The Family Fun package at the Range at Austin was a great experience, so much so that I ended up returning with an entirely new group of folks a few weeks later to show them the experience as well. Each time I've been, the staff has been very friendly and open to helping beginners with learning the ropes about the mechanics of shooting firearms properly. They were happy to answer my many questions and took care to make sure the process of shooting multiple firearms went smoothly each time. This made for a great group experience. I went for a 90 minute private instruction session as a new gun owner who has done a lot of reading and youtube watching, and shot a few (maybe a total of 30) rounds at the family ranch, but has never had professional training. The idea was to sanity check that I wasn't developing any terrible habits with dry fire self instruction, and to get basic training knocked out more efficiently than in a group setting with a lot of 'boring' material that I've already absorbed but which has to be covered in a group class where some people have done zero prep. Ideally, I would leave the session with enough preparation that I could self-train the rest of the way to being able to pass the LTC skills test. The instructor, Rico, exceeded my expectations from the beginning and throughout. First off, I was 5 minutes early but he was already waiting behind the check in clerk and greeted me as soon as he heard me give my name. Next, he had actually read and absorbed my detailed notes (that I had provided during online signup) about firearm experience background and what I was hoping to achieve in the session. There was almost no boilerplate or wasted time with him going through a standard script. Rico started off asking me a few probing questions to confirm that I had absorbed the textbook rules of firearm handling and marksmanship, and then transitioned directly into specific instruction on handling and marksmanship, with helpful demonstrations and supporting stories throughout. Rico was professional yet personable, adapted quickly to my style with the right mix of first principles theory and specific physical instruction, and I ultimately left the session with live fire results that were both much faster and more accurate than I'd been able to achieve through self instruction and 'helpful' family advice. This is probably unnecessary to say, but I feel compelled to - this review isn't to make any kind of commentary about gun ownership rights or gun control. It's just that - a review about The Range, our experience, and what this place has to offer. And I have to tell you - these guys get top marks for all of that across the board! Admittedly, I had never been to a gun range before coming here (other than shooting clay ducks with shotguns at an outdoor range), so I don't have much else to compare this place to. However, this place is crazy impressive! Since we were in town for my buddy's bachelor party, it was practically a given that hitting a shooting range would be on the agenda. Yet, I have to say, I never imagined they could look this nice! On Yelp, the photos of The Range looked mighty impressive - slick and modern with a vast array of guns to choose from. However, once you step inside, it's immediately apparent that all of those photos don't do this place justice. Walking around was like walking through an armory for Call of Duty - I never realized just how many different types and variations of rifles, shotguns, handguns, pistols, ammo, sights, and scopes there were (and so much more). After checking in at their front desk, our host came out to greet us and took us to a back orientation room where the staff taught us how to properly handle/fire each type of gun and, most importantly, numerous safety instructions and procedures. Since a couple of the guys in our group own guns, we let them take the lead on what to shoot. I can't recall which rifles and handguns they ended up choosing (there were two of each), but I'm fairly certain they picked an MP5, an AR-15 with a scope, a SIG Sauer, and a second handgun I definitely don't know the name of). Since our group rental included four bays/stalls (one for each gun) and unlimited ammo, our entire group had ample opportunities and time to shoot each gun. Having played my fair share of Counter-Strike and Call of Duty over the years, I was most excited to shoot the AR-15 and MP5 (random side note - shooting them wasn't nearly as intimidating as watching others shoot). Thankfully, our gunsmith/range master/instructor was awesome - super friendly and very patient. I'd say what made the experience even more enjoyable was hitting center mass and the middle of the forehead of each target with each gun, but I'm not one to brag. ;) Since ammo isn't included as part of the group package (it includes safety training, choice of four weapons, four stalls, and 60 mins or so on the range), the price of the experience can creep up on you if you and/or your group gets a little trigger happy. In our case, we didn't plow through ammo like the group next to us (they had a fully automatic uzi), but I still thought we did a fair amount of shooting and it only cost us about $90 a head (or, at least, it seemed fair to me, but I have nothing to reference against). It's even cheaper when you consider it's an investment in training for the seemingly inevitable zombie apocalypse (I hate you, COVID-19). All in all, while I can't say how gun ranges in the Bay Area compare, I can't imagine any of them surpassing what The Range has to offer. It would probably take another bachelor party to bring me back here, but I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a gun range or a gun shop in Austin! read more

I came here with my father, who has never shot a gun before. Since we were visiting from NY, I didn't have any of my own firearms on me. Upon arrival, we were told there would be able a 45 minute wait. We ended up getting called after about 29 mins. We rented an HK VP9. I went through a few tips with my father and allowed him to dry fire a few times to get a feel for the gun, trigger reset, and trigger pull. The range officer was condescending and just seemed annoyed. He wasn't giving tips - just more of a SEE YOURE DOING IT WRONG mentality. We had good range etiquette and cleaned up after ourselves so I'm not sure what his problem was. This was not my first time at this range. I usually come when visiting my sister who lives in the area. read more

We arrived yesterday and I must say it is truly a vision of sight to shoot here. Just walking in you see all the gun displays that are just beautifully arraigned. Tons of seating room by the actual range part of your not shooting to sit and watch. Bathrooms were nice and clean and if you wanted your gun cleaned they have that as well. Only issue is as it's an inside gun range, they should REALLY think about separating the handgun shooting from the everything else shooting. People were shooting what looked like and sounded like bombs in there with the handgun people and more than one person complained of how extremely loud it was and how unfocused it was making them. I was outside the glass watching and felt it from the outside. YIKKKKES!!! We usually go to outdoor ranges for that very reason. The employees are very helpful and it was a fund Sunday. read more

I am new to this gun ownership deal. I have no experience with handguns. Never shot or held a handgun. So I was a little nervous coming in here. As I walked in, I went straight to the handgun display. They had every popular brand with various price points. After a couple of minutes, a sales guy came up to me. I explain my situation. He was very friendly and knowledgable. He gave me the low down on various handguns. I decided on a Glock 19. I was nervous doing the paperwork and I did not answer the questions correctly. I am not used to being in an environment with guns all over. Not my proudest moment. While I was not able to purchase my weapon of choice. I came back with my wife and completed the transaction. Everyone was professional. I recommend The Range for any gun purchase. I have been doing my research on handling procedures until I am able to take some training at The Range. I highly recommend The Range. Just be calm. Take a deep breath or two and have someone on staff guide you through the background check paperwork. I love the selection of firearms and accessories for purchase at this range. It's like a candy store for me. However I can't recommend this facility to anyone of minority. You will stared down like a hawk from the time you walk in till the time you walk out. I was belittled with my purchases as if I didn't know that I was in a gun store, let alone know what I was buying for myself. I bought multiple accessories for multiple hand guns that I own, and was slung back every item he scanned without a bag or even the offer of a bag and then stared down again until I left. Their membership "benefits" are false advertising. I've been coming to this range for a while and recently became a member. One of the reasons to get a membership was unlimited range time (as announced on their website). Today, as I was using a rifle lane, Isaac interrupted me right as I was about to shoot, saying I had been there for too long (1h20m) and that I had to leave. Didn't even let me fire one more shot. I argued that members get unlimited range time, and he arrogantly responded that there is no such thing in the membership contract and that he would be happy to cancel my membership. He also threatened to call the cops on me if I didn't leave. On top of that, when I asked to talk to his supervisor, he refused to give me any contact because he "felt threatened" by me? At no point was I disrespectful or aggressive, unlike Isaac. Clearly he lacks the training to deal with customers. read more

This is the gun range your wife will let you join. We were visiting from Los Angeles and loved the luxury experience available at The Range. I've only been shooting once but was able to successfully shoot an automatic rifle with the help of the staff. It was so clean and neatly taken care of. The gun display when you walked in was pretty breathtaking and this from a girl who's kind of scared of guns! There seemed to be novice shooters like me and advanced shooters alike. On a Thursday at 11, it was easy to get a lane as a non-member walk in. Roman got ya familiar with the range and Bill was the lane supervisor. Ultimately, both men helped us out with shooting tips and advice on the city of Austin. Customer service was superb and they made me a lot more comfortable with the experience! My fiancée shoots regularly so we did notice this place was on the pricey end, but since the experience was so unique and we were on vacation - it was worth it. We had a BLAST, literally! This is a wonderful place to network and hang out with friends. First let me tell you the instructors are SPOT ON concerned about everyone's safety. They are constantly keeping an eye out of where people are and what they're doing with their firearms. He was pointing the weapon towards the waiting shooters and the instructor was on him like a dog on a pork chop. The instructors assist with loading and teaching people how to fire. The downside for me is the business is really geared to a general public crowd who are non- shooters, or rarely shoot. I don't think this facility is unsafe in any way, but I also don't fully trust these noobs. It seems busy all the time. The weekend early members only time is fantastic! Finally, the FFL transfer fee for members at $15 is by far and away the best fee of any local FFL. They have a nice retail selection of all types of guns, gear and ammunition. read more

This is a nice indoor range, the staff was friendly and the facility is nice. I was looking forward to firing and familiarizing myself with our new 9mm, however this didn't happen. I could not concentrate and actually became extremely anxious due to the inconsiderate person beside me who had a short barrel, large caliber firearm that felt as if someone was punching me in the chest every time it was fired. We left early and we won't go back. If The Range wants to allow this type of firearm they need to have a designated area. I have spoke to several other people I know who have experienced the same, and also aren't planning to return. read more

In 20+ years of shooting, The Range At Austin is the best indoor range I've ever been to. The selection of guns for purchase & range rental is awesome & reasonably priced. The staff are friendly, helpful and go above and beyond. Their membership is extremely affordable, so I became a member ($50/month for unlimited shooting time.) The Range has a wonderful familial atmosphere, I've made friends with a few fellow shooters and some staff. As with any new place there are growing pains however I believe staff / customer service is tweaking things as they learn and grow. Facilities are top notch, clean and easy to navigate. They have safety precautions locked down which i appreciate. Lots of stalls. The only thing I will say about the partitions are shells will be flying over the wall if you're next to someone. Like bouncing off your head. Yes range fees are on the higher side but if you own your own equipment, I think the yearly membership is worth it. Came to try out some equipment before buying. Worked with Randy and Monica on the range who Were knowledgeable and were standing by to give tips and help. We went on a Friday morning so it wasn't too crowded. I'm sure evenings and weekends would be busier. Store front has plenty of toys to look at in nice display cases. We will be back! read more
