I have to downgrade my review. I went here and found out that they are actually charging money for the axe throwing now, which is ridiculous. So you charge ridiculous amounts for bowling and virtual reality, then decide to add in axe throwing. It's kind of laughable. Especially since they charge you like $4 for 5 throws, which is the equivalent to about 20 tokens (which is what they had been charging before). So instead of letting you use your $4 in tokens they make you spend $4 extra to throw axes 5 times? What exactly is the thought process here? What is the point in doing that? I was there with 7 people and when they told us we needed to go and purchase axe throwing at the other register we laughed and walked away. As if we were going to deal with that extra step, especially after spending money on tokens for games. We chatted with some other people there about the new policy and they felt the same way. It's silly that they began charging money for axe throwing once they already established with customers that they were able to use tokens. Totally unnecessary and disappointing. So then if you don't want to spend more money after purchasing tokens you are basically only allowed to play the arcade games... I went to play "Speed of Light" and it was BROKEN. I asked an employee what was going on with it because it ate 8 of my tokens and I wanted them back and they didn't really know what to do. So there was another 8 tokens wasted. Everything else was the same as always. I have spent a lot of time and money on these games. I was disappointed with the new policy changes. read more

I forgot to review this a couple of days ago so I will catch up now. Large group from work went and the set up a small buffet for us. Everyone liked most of the food. Ribs especially were good. And for desert- fancy donuts. Mmmmm donuts. Only complaint was the fried chicken seemed to be extra breaded. Then after supper, axe throwing. This review is for Three10, the main restaurant in The Rec Room. Having now gone there maybe a half dozen times now, our complete order/bill has only been completely correct exactly once. The food has been wrong in a variety of ways (wrong item completely, wrong side, mixed up the toppings) and they just can't seem capable of splitting bills correctly. There are never any drink specials. Not that the beer is crazy expensive ($7+ for a pint), but some sort of specials would be nice. The food is alright. Nothing is great but nothing has been terrible so far. For the prices, it's a bit disappointing, but I continue to go and eat. The chicken caesar sandwich is probably the best tasting and most bang for your buck food item. The chicken is really good quality and not super greasy like you might expect fried chicken to be. And you get a ton of chicken! read more

This place is expensive, crowded, and incredibly loud. We headed here on my birthday for some drinks and games after taking in a show right next door. When we asked for a table we were told it would be at least an hour, despite the fact that there were numerous empty tables and that we could either head to the bar or to the smaller food window that serves drinks, doughnuts, and poutine. When I explained, that we just wanted drinks and wouldn't be ordering food, we were still told a minimum of an hour, despite the nearly empty restaurant. I told the host it was my birthday, but still no luck, so we headed to the doughnut window. It took almost 20 minutes to get service at the window. Despite the fact that there were only 4 people in front of us. There was only one guy working it, mixing drinks and making food. The lack of staffing was evident, and he did his best, but one person can only do so much. Be aware if you choose the doughnut window, it will take a while and they have a limited selection of alcohol, really just the basics. After our first set of drinks we headed to the bar, and waited at least 10 minutes to be looked at. Finally, we garnered the attention of the one of the bartenders when dropped a glass, didn't break it, and we clapped. He did give us a drink on the house, for noticing and for the wait, which we appreciated. They do need to train the bartenders better, as we had to look up recipes for many of the drinks we asked them to make, which should've been simple standard bar cocktails. The other big beef I have with this place is the gaming area. It is small and packed together. It is expensive, and it takes a ton of points to get any decent prizes. Also, one thing they don't tell you is that not all games give points. The more arcade style racing or shooting games don't. It would be nice if they warned people about that. Also, the games are poorly maintained. They break all the time, and for things like the clown toss, never have enough balls. They also eat credits like they're going out of style. Lastly, The Rec Room closes their upper floor quite often for parties. So, if you wanted to play pool, or ping pong, or anything like that, you likely won't get a chance. In the 10+ times I've been there, I've had access to the second floor maybe twice? Overall, I go here because other people want to and because it is conveniently located next to the theater. I'd take a hard pass on this place if I was you. read more

Great time with family! 1st time visiting the rec room from the U.S. Highly recommend checking it out. The time will fly by.

After two visits to The Rec Room I highly doubt I will return. Both times we received terrible service which leads me to believe they are not trying to improve! Our first experience: The food was great but the restaurant (310) service needs improvement. Lack of attention to detail, table maintenance and quality checks. Spoke with the floor manager on duty (believe her name was Laura) and she promptly took care of the matter. Had the food not been so great and the management not on top of things I don't know if I'd be back. I will try again ... Our second visit: We just sat at our table for 10 mins before someone even acknowledged me (and my guest). The server then proceeded to walk off with half the order. The place is half empty, servers don't know their sections (the excuse we were given) and staff don't know the menu and aren't proactive enough to find out. It's really a shame that a place that employs so many people have such terrible sense of team and teamwork. Lack of communication, taking pride in your job and willingness to work together as a team really hinders this place from me coming back. I hope they are leaning from the hiccups of a newly opened establishment. The economy sucks and customer service and appreciation will go a long way! The games area is fun! This is the second time going to this Rec Room location and it was horrible. My boyfriend and I had a gift card so we played some games which was fun, not enough games at all and super expensive. That's not even the worst part. We decided to get a drink each and they tasted like a 5 year old mixed some dollar store lemonade and peach juice. $18 for two drinks... I literally could have gone to 711 and got bigger drinks that were way better and CHEAPER. The bartender barely said anything to us. Ya. Never again! My boyfriend and I went to eat here on the weekend and it was really good, I got the ABC burger and it was so delicious, loved their fries and gravy too, my boyfriend also loved his burger which he added a egg to it. Love the bag of popcorn they give you at the start of your meal, the service was really good, plenty to do and see, looking forward to trying their other menu items but that burger will have me coming back for sure read more

Went in for b-day dinner, drinks and games. Food was surprisingly good having never eaten there but the best part was the magician they had entertaining who came around to tables during this time- he was phenomenal. Loved it! Also, our server was top notch. Probably one of the best, professional and accomodating that Ive ever had at a restaurant and we dine out very frequently. Nicely done! Great concept, but good lord, this place needs to get its kitchen together. I ordered a calamari and it came in pretty good time, but they deep fried a bunch of lemon slices and HID THEM IN THE DISH. Like, just throughout; mostly at the bottom to push the paltry amount of squid up, and certainly not on top or on the side as a garnish. We told the bartender that there were lemon slices-rind and all-battered and disguised as squid, and he just shrugged and said they do it "for the aesthetic." No apology, no discount, no kitchen feedback. That's some messed up kitchen ethos, you guys. You can't hide inedible things within a dish and shrug it off. That's like baking a batch of cookies, chopping up the eggshells, and throwing them in the batter: technically legal, but just absolutely disgusting on so many different levels. read more

The Rec Room isn't really my jam to begin with, but I went for a friend's birthday party on a Saturday, arriving around 10pm. There was a line to get in even though there's no cover charge... the line was strictly for checking IDs and giving wristbands. I waited about 15 minutes in line. I found the layout chaotic and confusing. There wasn't really any signage and it felt super cluttered. The walkways were mostly narrow and I was always bumping into people. Free coat check is immediately to the right, but shares a counter with the token sellers, so be careful! I didn't dine in the restaurant, but it didn't look busy at the time. The rest of the main floor is taken up by a dizzying glob of games. Instant headache. It was super loud with a lot of conflicting sounds and there were, of course, tons of different flashing lights and distractions. The bowling alley and axe throwing are upstairs. Really, bowling is the only thing I'd be interested here and in that case I'd rather go to a legit bowling alley. I had the roasted wild mushroom poutine ($10) from one of the quick serve counters on the main floor - apparently called The Shed - and thought it was pretty decent. It was a huge serving for sure. I honestly can't see this place lasting for more than two or three years and I wouldn't go back unless invited. Even then, it would have to be someone I really liked. read more

I wanted to host my 30th birthday party at the Rec Room so my boyfriend went for the first time on Saturday afternoon to check it out. The Pros: The idea seems like a good idea in theory. That is the only pro I could find about this place. The Cons: You walk in and there is no real signage to explain where / what things are. We went into "Three10" restaurant and were told there would be a 35-45 minute wait, see my photos as half the place was empty!!! We then went upstairs to "The Loft". We found a table, it was still dirty but sat down none the less. Short story-service was mediocre, food was mediocre. There are only glasses of beer, no jugs. It was also extremely hot! So hot that it was uncomfortable. We wanted to play pool, but you need electronic wrist bands to do that (there are no signs anywhere, we only found out by asking a server). We did try to play pool but due to the fact there are NO blinds anywhere it's nearly impossible to play-see photo. We were able to get into "Three10" for supper and shared appies. The red head server at the bar(where we sat) was brutal. Directly in front of us she was arguing with other staff about transferring us. No one wanted to serve us which resulted in slow, crappy service. Our food was brought out with no side plates, no cutlery-see photo. Kind of hard to eat without these things. I mist give a shout out to the little Asian fellow who took over serving us when his shift started. He was great and picked up the pieces. We stuck around until 7pm and by then it was slow, stuffy and crowded. I doubt we will be back. Ps. It costs $70 an hour to bowl read more

Served two other people who came after we did. So ok, I'm obviously irritated, but I'm holding out. It's now 715. The other bartender is clearing cups and chatting people up, as we still sit with no drinks. Finally, blond girl asks this guy to make us drinks. HALLELUJAH! I'm finally going to get a drink and go to the event that I paid for. Wrong. I order a tall vodka soda. He starts making all the drinks. Some how, my vodka soda is now a vodka cran... by this point it's been over 20 minutes. And I'm so beyond done. I get a water. To top it off, blond girl gave attitude. I bartender for 7 years. She clearly was ignoring us. It was completely disrespectful. Needless to say I won't come back. read more

Went to see Oscar Nominated Short Films -highlight of the night. As per usual the entry way disorganized and chaotic. First time goers stopped only at the door where security stood and had to ask questions. People going to the event had to stand in line to Show ID then get into another line to show tix. People who were not going to the event still had to wait through the doors and onto the sidewalk. Then- that wasn't it. You got to the actual venue- and you had another line to wait in while seats were being organized. Have to say - staff were calm and cool. Event itself was great. Food was ok. We walked around after - lots of areas still full of ppl. I'd give it 5 stars only when they will figure out the organization at the point of entry. read more

The Rec Room just opened in South Edmonton common and it's a really nice, large space that caters to quite a few different needs for a night out including games, a bar, snacks, bowling and ping pong. The re-loadable wrist bands were handy to use and unlike your standard arcade you can redeem your vouchers for some pretty neat prizes (if you have a lot of points, we were no where near there) A few games were out of order but the one we really wanted to play, Jurrasic Park, was up and running after we asked an attendant to re-boot it. Being able to enjoy your adult beverages while playing the games was a definite perk and I would recommend trying the shot infused donut as well. We loaded our wrist bands with $30 of credits and spent about 2 hours there and didn't use them all so we'll be back. read more

Forget Ed's Rec Room in West Ed, this place smells of good food, good music with a live DJ, and energy from the crowd is positive. The pool tables operate like the elite and regular arcade games with a credit wrist band. Plenty fof staff circulating around for quick service and a large variety of seating options from bar to booth to lounge. My fiancee and a couple friends tried out the rec room tonight for the first time. As we expected, it was very packed on a Saturday night. The place is huge with a lot of different areas such as games, virtual reality, Axe throwing, car simulator, bowling, pool, karaoke, and three restaurants. There was a great mix of arcade games (zombies, shooting, racing) all were single, or double player with a 4 player air hockey table also. You purchase your credits at the market and then you receive a badge you can scan on each individual arcade machine. Make sure you collect any points after because those can be redeemed at the store for prizes. We tried the virtual reality for 30 minutes. It took me a few minutes to get the hang of it as there are a few controls and I was new to vr. You are able to switch between multiple games. I felt that it took awhile to catch ok and for a couple games such as the haunted house I became a bit motion sick. I really enjoyed the basketball and shooting games. Super fun and unique experience. I would definitely come back to try some of the other activities at the rec room in the future! read more

Very disappointing.. didn't know they got rid of the card (which allowed 4 hrs unlimited play). Came for my sons birthday which I would come because it was affordable with the card but found out you basically pay per credit for games. Brought 5 friends for my son n ended up costing me a small fortune. Then to top it off .. how disgusting you charge to activate the card. That's a lie money grabbing tactic. Disgusting. So surprised at the negative reviews for this place. I'd never been to the Rec Room before and we were looking for an all ages venue to go for dinner that was also entertaining for my mum and my daughter. We arrived hungry so went straight to THREEten, one of three eateries inside the Rec Room. We watched the Oilers game on the enormous screen above the bar and enjoyed a caesar. The Caesar was really good and came with an incredible garnish of salami, pickled egg and gherkin. The clamato was very pickley too - yum! I ordered the deviled eggs to share with the group and they were bacon topped, really creamy and a nicely presented appetizer. I had the salmon salad and it was massive! It came with asparagus, and was drizzled in a yogurt dressing. The flavours were fab together. I really enjoyed but like I said... it was HUGE. I left a lot of the leaves so the server enquired if I enjoyed it if she could get me something else. That's great service, guys! At one point, the manager just popped over to say hi and check we were all good. Then we went to the arcade area, we got $15 worth and played a few games. It was super fun and a Monday night is the perfect time to go. Not too busy and you can pretty much walk up to any game you want to play without needing to wait. You get a card pre loaded with your tickets and if you win those tickets automatically load onto the card. It's pretty hi tech. Checked out The Rec Room's Sunday brunch (06/10/18) and it's no wonder why there were only 3 other tables in there.. the service was plain awful, the server didn't seem as if she had any idea what she was doing; service was slow; we were never checked out; food took about 30 mins (we had two poutines and pretzels); drinks weren't refilled. We tried to go into one of their restaurants and there was only one table with people in it and a couple people at the bar. Otherwise there was no one in the restaurant and after waiting for a host to show up we were told that it would be a 25 minute wait. The entire Rec room is poorly run, we also tried to bowl and had to wait at the counter for someone who worked there so show up. Absolute worst service, just appalling. read more

Work Team Building event was excellent with a variety of games to play. All the staff was very helpful throughout the whole facility. Not impressed with the restaurant, mushroom pizza seems to have these stones/seeds that could break a tooth. Mac and cheese was like cement. Perhaps in the spring they might consider changing their menu. read more

Checked out the Rec room for a work party and I was quite surprised with it. The building is huge. As soon as you walk in, you are treated with a customer service desk and to the left is a bar and the right is games. Then, if you move in more, there are stairs that take you upstairs where there are billiards, ax throwing and bowling. We stuck with the billiards and bowling, for the event. The bowling is small, but definitely fun. There are four lanes available for play. Lots of ball options and shoe rentals. The pool tables seemed not bad, there was one that was a little well loved but still playable. The bar seemed a little slow at times, as it took a good 15 minutes to make 8 drinks. (This was going up to the bar). At the beginning we couldn't order high balls as they weren't able to get the pop to work, a big problem for a place that has kids and a bar! The company ordered a poutine bar for food. The fries and cheese were good, but the meats and gravy to go on top weren't the greatest. The gravy could have been way better, especially with a poutine bar. Also, when they brought everything out, we had to ask for cheese as they forgot to bring it out. Before leaving we walked through the games and it seems like there were a lot of options available and lots of different types to play. I would say definitely a good place for just adults looking to get out, as well as a place to bring the kids. I would definitely love to go back and check out the ax throwing and maybe play some of the games. read more

Really disappointed with my visit to the Rec Room on Saturday evening around 630. First - I lived nearby when they started building. I was shocked that they were adding this large complex to this particular parking lot, which already housed the movie theatre and Earls. On a Friday or Saturday night, it was already difficult to find parking there. But whatever... they must know what they're doing (they clearly don't). Anyway.. moving on to my experience. The doors are clearly marked as to which one is the Entrance and which is the Exit. So, we went in the Entrance and were stopped by security, telling us to go outside and in the other door. Not a bit deal, but threw us off a little. Once you get inside.... Well, I don't think I've ever been more confused. There were 4 security guards at the door. And a bunch of people who looked like movie theatre ushers. The first "usher" stopped us and asked us what we were there for that night. I said, "well, we've never been here before, but we were looking for some dinner!". Usher #1 explained that there was the downstairs restaurant, which had a 30 - 40 minute wait, or the lounge upstairs, or the donut and poutine shed. We said we'd probably wait for the restaurant. She pointed to a counter and told us we'd have to give them our name to get on the waitlist. Great. We start walking towards the counter and we're stopped by another usher. Usher #2 asks as us the same question and we have the exact same conversation. On to the counter... At the counter there are 2 more ushers. Usher #3 explained the same thing as the first two and then told us to give our names to Usher #4. So we did, and were given the little pager thing. We asked if we could go sit at the bar while we wait, they said yes. So, we headed into the restaurant and notice at least 7 empty tables. So... I'm guessing that the wait is actually because they did not have sufficient staff. We sat at the bar. There were a few other patrons at the bar, and a number of staff. We sat... and sat. There was a weird smell. I smelled a combination of hot sauce and cleaning supplies, but my friend smelled B.O. Nobody ever acknowledged us. No menus, no drinks. Nothing. So we got up and left. When we handed the pager back to Usher #3, she said, "thanks, have a good night!" I would go back if I was part of a group that was going anyway, but it wouldn't be my first choice. We arrived around 6 pm.. so it wasn't as busy by around 930/10 the crowds started coming. I couldn't believe how long the line was. Food was great at the shed. Amazing poutine. Drinks were somewhat expensive, but not terrible. I love the idea of all of these activities under the same roof. Must go again for sure! read more

I Called and Asked If we could bring a Cake for a party I was told no problem then when I got there the manger tried to tell me there was a 1.50 per a person food contamination fee for bring a out side cake in I told her I wasn't paying some made up fee she then tried to tell me Alberta health board was the one setting the fee not them. Beware when booking a group here, you might get bumped! Our Manager booked our office team building at the Rec Room to do some bowling and axe throwing. She tried booking well in advance but was told that she couldn't and that she'd have to call back on a certain date in order to book the group in. So she calls back when she was told to and books our office group in for a lunch at the ThreeTen restaurant, bowling and axe throwing. Well, fast forward to the day of our team building event and she gets an Email...that's right...not a phone call, but an Email stating that our booking has been cancelled due to their Toronto sales team being in town or something to that affect. Oh, so you bump a group of paying customers, who were going to be there all day eating and drinking and partaking in your activities, to accommodate employees instead? Cool cool. Well it gets better. Turns out we had another group from our company that was booked for bowling that same day and THEY got bumped as well but was told that it was due to a larger group being booked in there. I think it's safe to say that our not so small company won't be booking any events there in the near future. Poor customer service. So unprofessional. read more

So I'm tossed between a 3 star and a 4 star review...I've been here a few times for numerous occasions, birthday party, watching an Oilers game etc, and it's been a different experience every time. Apart of me feels like the rec room is a novelty thing, it's great the first few times you go then it becomes kind of meh. Going there the first time was awesome, you play a bunch of games, you get to drink and walk around, it's like being a kid but you're allowed to drink. The VR (virtual reality) was a lot of fun but because it's still in the beginning stages it was glitchy and it is expensive, same withe the axe throwing (only glitchy depending on the person but still expensive). Again first experience was great but once you go again and again you begin to realize how loud and obscenely busy it gets and how repetitive the games are. I found going here during a hockey game (on a Friday night, playoff season), it wasn't that busy. We were seated quickly and it didn't get loud and out of hand.The great part that during periods if you want something to go, you go play a game. If you come here during a busy night the security can get a little ridiculous and the waiting for a table even worse, sometime hours until you can get a table. Always try and book in advance if you can. At the end of the day if you don't want to come here to play games the bar is outstanding. They have GREAT food, appies and drinks. Ton's of TVs to watch sports games and the service is unbeatable. Every server I've had had an, awesome attitude and was prompt. I might not come here to play games a lot but to watch a game or have drinks with friend heck ya. read more

Very disappointed. Unfriendly staff, bathroom stalls are falling apart, no direction on how it works, very limited selection on pool , ping pong, and bowling. We got there at 5 and everything was booked till 10. I have two good points.. the Canadian mojito was good and arcade prices are decent. However I can get both those things just about anywhere else! There was a fire the night we were there and I am sorry to hear and hope all is easily fixed however the staff were no where to be seen, security was put and driving away before people even exited the building. let me start by saying, if it was just games then Rec Room would get maybe a 4/5. They have bowling, pool, axe throwing, VR... There really is something for everyone. what let's them down tremendously is the service and the food. Both are beyond terrible. And it's not just a one off. We've been several times now (for the games, I'm not a sucker for crappy service) and the food and service always manages to bum me out. Our first visit the food was great but our server was sooooooooo sloooooooooooow. She was a younger girl, I figured maybe her first job and she was still learning. No, she was too busy serving a table that must have been full of her friends the way they were chatting it up. Then she had some excuse about her slow service when we could blatantly see her. Ergh. This encounter was in the fancier restaurant downstairs (forget the name). Second visit. We came for pizza and games. Up to The Loft we go. Slightly better server this time. However, everyone had their food but me. I had ordered The Butchers Daughter. They forgot to make it. I get it... it happens. But rather than make me a fresh pizza, they threw cold sausage meat and raw onions onto a pepperoni pizza and hoped I wouldn't notice. I noticed. Luckily for them I was so hungry I could have eaten a scabby donkey so I shook off my cold toppings (because they literally were just thrown on with no attempt to broil them) and ate the pepperoni pizza. It was a cop out and I was upset. Third experience is not yet an experience but I was hoping for it to be. Boyfriends birthday. Boyfriend loves games. Tried to book small party at Rec Room. via their online booking. Wait. Wait. Wait. No word. Call. Call. Call. No answer. I think that's pretty terrible when someone is hoping to spend a lot of money there with their friends. Don't ever eat at the restaurant.... Large group, poor waiter overwhelmed.... Talked to manager.....did nothing about it while the rest of the place was empty. A bunch of waitresses stood in the kitchen in plain site of us and yapped eating popcorn. Games were fun....don't eat hereZ read more
