I went here a couple of times with my cousin and only had 1 good experience. We sat at the bar and I forgot the young lady name but she was a bartender and she was very pleasant and accommodating. The food is mediocre. They have some very rude barbacks and the manager is rude and nasty. I would like to say some of them are racist. I will never come here again. I walk in around 1 am after bar crawling in Towson. Walk in and sit. The place is absolutely dead which is no surprise. The funny thing is that it smells dirty. Which it definitely was as I had a cockroach run by my feet sitting at the bar. After sitting at the bar my girlfriend ordered a drink and I asked the bartender if she could recommend any drink. I also told her I'd be up for trying anything. The look of confusion on her face was priceless. This pink haired bar tender couldn't recommend a single drink. She then stuttered on her words for about a minute before I cut off the sad excuse of critical thinking and told her that I would just take a simple rail drink. Which btw we were never asked for our ID. Mind you me and my GF were above 21. However, if you're below 21 come here you'll be able to drink! Overall, you have tons of bars in Towson, this one should be close to the bottom. Drinks are poor, overpriced, inexperienced employees who are older and should know how to run a bar when you only have about 6 customers. WARNING- Watch out for the staff shorting your food. I went one night and ordered 10 wings, but received only 9 wings. I told the waitress who then had the audacity to say "it's about 10 wings". The Rec Room could easily be considered a dive bar, catering primarily to local college students. Their most popular night is Wednesday when they offer the public $1 domestic bottles (Bud, Bud Light, Bud Ice, Coors Lite, Miller Lite, Rolling Rock) from 10pm till 2am, which makes for a cheap buzz. The venue is setup with two large rooms, one entirely pool tables and the other is seating, a dance floor, and a long bar, as well as vending machines and arcade games. The food is mediocre at best, mostly bar food (wings, fries, burgers , and the like) and cost too much for what it's worth. I have been coming to this place for a number of years and the evolution of the facility over the years has been great. The Towson Tavern was a great split off, though I miss the loss of the pool tables. The outdoor patio addition is absolutely awesome! Drinks here are reasonable and during the fall/spring you can find a very lively crowd. Never tried the food here. Not sure I would. Mixed drinks are usually pretty good. Jack and Coke is my go to drink . Pool tables are solid. They actually just expanded the area and made a huge back deck which is nice on cooler nights in the summer. Fun place, but it slowed down a little now that CVP's opened up again, with an outdoor area as well. It will be interesting to see how these places compete against each other. The best time to go to the Rec Room is when the college students go home for Winter and Summer break. During those times, the Rec Room is a great place. There are pool tables and a full bar. I like Rec Room. It's a decent college party spot on the weekends, and the music is always pretty good. The drinks are nice and cheap and you can party inside out outside on the patio which plays different music if your not a fan of what's playing inside. Downside however is that the the bathrooms are a tad bit too small and overcrowded and the bouncers can be really rude and arrogant. They take their job way too seriously and is continuously one of the biggest buzz kills. I've been to this place several times and I enjoyed it every time. But tonight was the complete opposite all due to poor customer service. I walked to the bartender (brown/blonde female) and asked for a red bull. Bartender: monster Me: ?? Red bull? Bartender: monster.... Went there for lunch and a beer. They have no bottle menu, place reeked of smoke, table was sticky, and floor was even more sticky. I was there on a busy Saturday night. I opened my tab, and closed it. Then I opened a second tab and when I asked to close it, they said I didn't have a tab or my card... I called the next day in hopes the card would have turned up. I wasn't in a hurry to cancel it as I had turned it off, so if it was just on their floor or behind something, then I could turn it back on. If they had accidentally given it to the wrong customer, then that person still couldn't use it. Well I called the next day and they said they didn't have it. I had a friend who was across the street, and he ran over to ask about the card for me, as a last effort as I'd never had to cancel a card before. He said that I had a tab open still but they didn't have my card! 1) You lose or give my card to the wrong person and 2) Tell me I don't have a tab when I do. The whole thing has been irritating, especially since the bartender wasn't very nice saying I didn't have a tab and they didn't have my card. Rec room is a cool spot, on the weekends it's dead till 11 or 12 which is typical of towson area bars. The prices are good and the back patio is great for summer through early fall. Now would I consider rec room a towson university bar? Ehhh not really, I'd say on Friday and Saturday nights only about 50% of the crowd are college students. I personally really enjoy this bar, they have great out door seating that is nice when the weather is on point. The food and drinks are good, not pricey in my opinion. Now i really do like this place, which is why i gave them a 4... What i HATE about this place is the clientele. Its just crazy on like thursday nights-saturday. Stopped in to watch football on Sunday afternoon. We were so pleasantly surprised! We assumed we would be settling for cheap deepfried bar food, but not at all. The food is fantastic and a good deal too considering its in Towson. No frozen mystery meat chicken tenders here, they were fresh, crispy and delicious. All the people that have been writing reviews trashing the food and atmosphere need to understand that it is a COLLEGE bar, so going in expecting a fine dining experience is asinine. I fit into that demographic, so naturally I am a fan of the place. I wouldn't exactly go on a date there, but for happy hour, the food is definitely above par.
