My husband and I came here for the first time for a much needed date night. This was such a great choice. The food was AMAZING. We ended up with leftovers and couldn't stop thinking about them through the night into the morning. We ordered the old bay wings, French onion soup, the steak and cake, and the butchers bacon wrapped tenderloins. The food was cooked to perfection, and the steaks didn't need any sauce at all. I was quite impressed with this place. We were recommended it recently and wanted to try. It has a mountain cabin vibe to it. You can sit at a table or you can sit at the bar. During the warmer weather I noticed they have outdoor seating as well. The service was quick, our waitress was lovely. She was attentive and very nice. We ordered the lodge stew, which was on the specials menu and it was so good. It had such a good flavor of roast beef in it. And the bread on the side made it that much better. Came here with my mom for the first time in years. Our server, Carmen, was friendly and attentive. We ordered the crab dip as an appetizer and it did not disappoint! The pretzel was soft and the crab dip was very creamy. For entrees, we got The Bull and IPA pasta with a side house salad. The Bull was great. The pasta was good but the sauce could have used a bit more flavor. Portions here are large!! Even the side house salad was almost a full meal. We ended up taking half of the sandwich and pasta home. We were meeting the Harley Owners Group for a social gathering at the Gunpowder Lodge. There were 38 of us in attendance. Matty, our server, was absolutely amazing. How she managed to keep all of our orders straight is beyond me. Aside from the noise level, we enjoyed ourselves. For our drinks, we had Chardonnay Wine, Natty Bo Beer and a Diet Coke; plus a pitcher of water on the table. My husband had Mike's Meatloaf. He is a bit of a meatloaf connoisseur. Mike's was a blend of ground beef and pork wrapped in bacon and topped with tomato gravy. It was served with garlic mashed potatoes and one additional side. My husband chose the Cole slaw. Was he pleased? You bet he was - he cleaned his plate. Our grandson ordered the Char-Grilled Wings hot, and they were! They came with celery and blue cheese. I decided on the Turkey Avocado Wrap, which had oven roasted turkey, melted provolone, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato and honey mustard. It was a change for me. Most Turkey Avocado Wraps I have had are cold, and this one was served warm, and it was delicious. It came with house chips. Great food, highly political service. If all you care about is food and drinks, Gunpowder Lodge is fantastic and I'd give them a 5-star review. The food is well seasoned, lots of fried fatness, and overall incredibly tasty for some American style pub food. Expect juicy burgers, deep fried chicken wings, and other comfort foods. They also have specials which rotate every month or so, and some of the specials have been a real winner when it comes to thinking outside the normal bar food affair. The food price is higher than expected, which I can slide since the food tastes great, but the drinks are way overpriced, which is a shame since most of their dishes pair nicely with alcohol. The scenery around the Gunpowder Lodge is great. The restaurant itself has plenty of windows and outdoor seating areas to show off the beautiful mountain ranges that surround the area. Gunpowder Lodge is right across from Gunpowder Falls, a wonderful hiking area, making Gunpowder Lodge my favorite sit down after a morning of hiking. Now for the elephant in the room: After the BLM movement took hold and the death of George Floyd, Gunpowder Lodge put up a new piece of decor, an American Flag with a blue stripe going through it. This piece of art, known as the "Thin Blue Line" is a pro-police message, often displayed as a symbol of hate against minorities and supporting of police brutality. I've never seen a minority working at Gunpowder Lodge, and have read several reviews of minorities receiving poor service at this establishment. Does this mean that Gunpowder Lodge's owner and employees are racist? Not necessarily, but at the very least, there is an uncomfortable atmosphere in the establishment if you are not white. Two years ago, I'd recommend Gunpowder Lodge to anyone looking for a good bite after a long day of trekking through the woods, but now, due to the establishment toting an extreme right political influence, I'd stay away, especially if you have dark skin. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here after a full day of hiking. There were only a few other people there so it was nice and quiet. We ordered the crab cake sandwich. Our waitress came over to let us know there was a delay with the meal so our drinks would be comped. The sandwiches were well worth the extra wait. The crab cake was huge and tasted amazing. They offered breakfast and lunch options. The eggs benedict was cold and the muffin was soggy from sitting out. The sausage gravy lacked sausage, bit the biscuits were good. The crab soup was good. The Canalis were not great. They were underfilled and soggy. The carving station, omelets and waffle bar were far in the corner away from the buffet setup. The waffle guy was super nice...but the fresh made waffles were soggy/not crunchy. Overall, the offerings were just OK, but not worth the price tag. I won't be returning for the brunch. Made reservations earlier this week for 4 for today (3/24/24). was told their Sunday brunch was great! We arrived @ 10:55 for 11:00 reservations. The hostess said we needed to wait for a table to open up. while waiting near one of the tall tables, we noticed a paper with someone's name. Those people arrived 10 min later and we moved down. One of us asked why we couldn't sit at an open table which had 5 chairs. The hostess said they were needed for larger parties. We were a party of 4 and had reservations. Why did we not have a paper reserving our table? We walked out about 11:15 and went elsewhere!!! All the ingredients are fresh however, pretty sure the bacon was some kind of bacon bit type of meat. My daughter had nachos, and they were probably the best thing of everything that we ordered. Total wait time: 1hr A little bit of context: I'm a white guy, and was visiting my mixed race family in MD and we decided to have a drink and some food after a beautiful days' hike. We arrived and got a table outside, with a bunch of other guests around us. After waiting ten minutes for someone to take drink orders or provide menus, we flagged down a waiter and asked for some. We were kind of shrugged off and told "yeah, sure." Ten more minutes pass and I go to the bar upstairs to order our drinks while we wait. My (maskless) bartender assures us that she'll send someone down to us when I mention our loneliness. I go back outside with our drinks and was shocked to see new guests had arrived and were recieving service. After waiting a while I flagged down another waiter and we were once again given the same treatment. We sipped our drinks and watched as guests left and they slowed down, only to be entirely ignored. Out of our entire group, I was the last one to notice that we were the only non white table present. I was frankly shocked... Stumbled upon this place on a Sunday afternoon. It was busy, and we discovered we'd just missed a delicious looking spread for brunch. Maybe next time! We started with raw oysters and a special appetizer called crab-acado. Delicious! The crab dish was similar to guacamole and served with fresh warm pita chips. My lunch was a spinach salad normally served with grilled salmon, but I had it with blackened chicken instead. It was served with a tasty apple cider vinaigrette dressing. My boyfriend had a sandwich called prosciutto parmigiana that he said contained all the best things from Italian sandwiches: prosciutto, roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella, basil, and an Italian dressing. Portions were large and service was efficient. The atmosphere is a bit noisy, but fun. We had peanut butter pie for dessert and enjoyed the live music that set up during our meal. Off the beaten path and exactly what we were looking for while on our Maryland road trip. Named after Gunpowder Trail and adjacent Gunpowder State Park, the lodge atmosphere is cozy and the food delicious and plentiful. The crab soup was fantastic! Pizza dough is made from scratch and available as a Gluten free option.salads we saw being delivered to other tables were beautiful, had great, fresh ingredients and creative blends. Came for brunch on a cold Sunday morning. Meet up with her daughter and son in law. How they love a good brunch. The absolute worst. Potatoes were so dried out. No eggs the first half hour, they had to remake them I guess. Because when we arrived we saw a young many walking away with a pan of eggs. Sausage gravy was salty, bacon wasn't fully cooked. Really love the ambience at GPL - it's like log cabin meets bar. Hadn't been here for a while, but we were looking for a place to eat and grab a drink after the Rage Room in Glen Burnie and we decided on GPL since it's close to home. I got the NY strip steak and it was fantastic. Cooked perfectly and had a nice char on the outside. No steak sauce needed. Our server was friendly and attentive, and the prices are reasonable. It was a nice change from our usual go-to spots, and I definitely think we'll be adding GPL to our rotation. read more

I've been here several times, and I love the food. Service has always been lacking, but this visit was the worst. We had what looked like a very young waiter. He took a while to come over to take orders. He only took appetizer orders from half our party, and then did not return to take our dinner orders until he delivered the appetizers. We had empty beer glasses as well. When I was able to order my dinner, I ordered a soup and entree. Instead of the soup first and then the entree next, they both arrived at the same time, which left me eating my soup while watching my entree get cold. Very awkward. My friends all commented that our waiter just disappears for a long time. It's a shame as the food is great. But the service needs to improve if they want to be successful. Stopped in for the first time last Monday. Sat at the bar and Carmen took care of us. She was very pleasant and friendly and recommended the fried green tomatoes, which were absolutely the best we've ever had. Oysters Rockefeller were good, as were the wings and Sante Fe Tacos. Looked to be quite a few regulars there and if you are ok with hearing conversations about sports betting or golf with an occasional F bomb dropped in here and there while sitting at the bar, it is a good place to go for happy hour. Dining area started to fill up around 6pm and was about 3/4 full at 645pm When you pull in the lot, don't stray too far left or you may find yourself scraping the bottom of your car on the embankment. read more

So I looked at the reviews before going this time. I saw several 5s. Great things were said about the service, the food and the prices. All of which are true. I thought hard about what I could say about anything to make it a four, because fives should be reserved. Here is what I came up with, parking is tight but there is plenty if you dont mind the walk, the place was crowded and it was tough to hear the conversation, the 8 ounce burger looked more six but it was perfect, and the crab dip had a bit too much cream cheese for me...
