This is a wonderful antique and "vintage inspired" shop in the sleepy old town area of Elk Grove. We were warmly greater and the nice lady working on a Saturday shared with us the layout and to be sure to check out all the rooms. Wow, this place was huge! It had a lot of wonderful items to browse and even a large clearance room. It was fun to wander around and see what they had. They mentioned we should come back during the holidays and that they go all out with their Christmas displays. I don't doubt that! I will definitely come back and highly recommend this unique and friendly shop. read more

OMG! I cannot believe there aren't more reviews of this place! So, let me start by sharing that this place was recommended to buy chalk paint. When I drove up and saw that it was an antique shop, I was a liiiitle concerned that I was pointed in the wrong direction. BOY WAS I WRONG! I walked in and saw an entire wall and section dedicated Annie Sloan paint, supplies and books. We were greeted upon entry and told they'd be right with us. After finishing with a customer, the woman asked what we needed help with and we said chalk paint. She directed towards the back of the store where she said Peggy would help us. When we approached Peggy, she was wrapping up items for another customer but told us that she could multi-task and answer our questions...and yes she did! Not only did she help us figure out how to choose the chalk paint and wax that we wanted for our project, but she walked us through every step of the chalk paint and wax process (which probably would've take hours on YouTube). She took us through the store to show us some items in the store that were chalk paint painted, took us through tools, both high quality and good budget picks, all the while telling us helpful stories about her own trials and errors. Once we landed on the items we were going to purchase, she shared, "just so you know, we don't just sell you products, if you ever need help or have questions, you can call and everyone who answers our phones are qualified to help you!" I am so impressed with this place, all the way from the customer service, to the products to the cleanliness and layout of the space. I think I'm going to take on new projects just so that I can come back here! read more

I completely love this place! My only complaint is that it's too far from our house! Worth the trip though! It's in old town Elk Grove, right by the railroad tracks. Street parking was not a problem on the Sunday we visited. The two lovely women working that day made us feel right at home and so welcome! It's a huge store, but you can't tell from the outside. Plan to spend some time exploring! I especially loved the "Mantiques" area! They have chalk paint and Iron Orchid Designs (and IOD classes too).... The store was cheerful, clean and happy!! In my opinion, the best antique & vintage store in the Sacramento area. It's in a beautiful brick building with original floors from when it was a hardware store in the 1800s. The store seems to keep going the more you explore it. Their selection is amazing. Their staff is super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. (Shout-out to Peggy and Jayne!) Prices are great (there is also a back room full of "wise buys."). I find it difficult to keep from buying half the store! Seasonal merchandise is always beautiful. Great selection of jewelry. They also have Dixie Belle products, Roycycled Decoupage Papers, and Redesign with Prima products! I'll keep coming back. The Red Door is a gem! read more

So my wife and I have actually picked up the lobby of antiquing and we find it so strange that we enjoy it now, because as younger adults walking through places like that would be "so boring" We discovered that once you find something to "collect" or seek out.... it becomes almost like a treasure hunt of half shopping, half trying to find the treasure on your "needed" list. We like Red Door because first off, it's in Elk Grove and that's closest to our residence. Secondly, there's a ton of odds and ends in here. It's like a small boutique style Hobby Lobby. There's the craft and chalk paint section, and then there's actual antiques to discover. Per our last visit, we purchased handmade (from New Mexico) liquid Lavender hand soap and I found a pink colored trinket box that now holds some of my gemstone crystals in the bedroom. All for under $30. This should definitely be on your list to visit, at least once! read more

Came here to buy some chalk paint for our babies crib and the two women working here were very helpful. They taught us basically how to do everything we had to and told us if we had any questions we can come in and ask. Very sweet down to earth people. I really want to give this shop a higher number but I can't. I have been there multiple times as a customer purchasing items and also browsing and the customer service of saying hello is lacking. The gentleman that works there has also ignored and acknowledged with a hello. People would like to feel appreciated so please don't pick who you want to say hello too. Let me set the scene: it's Sunday afternoon and my husband and I are in the middle of chalk painting TWO ladder bookshelves when we run out of paint (Annie Sloan: Primer Red) and our 2 old chalk brushes break as we are scrambling to get the last paint drops out of the can. The only two shops near us that carry Annie Sloan closed early for the day and we are rounding the end of our second coat. Can't stop won't stop now. On a whim, basically thanks to a frantic search of Annie Sloan Stockists, we call The Red Door in Elk Grove at 3:15 pm (this is important)--Enter Peggy and Rick. Peggy lets us know that yes, they have plenty of paint and brushes! But they close at 4 pm on Sundays. Crud. We live in Fair Oaks, how are we gonna get there in time before close? Peggy asks my husband where we will be coming from and then she says she will happily wait for us if we're on our way. People. This is like finding a unicorn at the mall. It's nearly impossible to be the benefactor of this kind of customer service anymore. Most of us who have worked in retail probably can agree that most day shifts, we're waiting for that clock to strike closing time after a long day of customer service, and you pounce on locking the doors as soon as it's time. Not Peggy and Rick. We pull up to the shop (quaintly and strikingly located in the heart of old Elk Grove) at 3:59pm. Technically we have less than 1 minute of shopping time. Thanks to Peggy and Rick's generous and helpful spirits, they welcomed us in the shop, gave us a rundown on chalk brushes since we were needing to replace ours, grabbed our chalk color of choice for us, and shared some excellent tips and reminders on how best to work with the paint (we implemented every tip as soon as we get home). On top of that, Peggy gave us a tour of their wonderfully curated space and shared the history of The Red Door, and took us to the workshop area where pre-Covid-19, they offered some pretty awesome sounding paint workshops. Talk of paint and projects soon turned to talk of life and work and family and the future--and it felt like we were catching up with an old friend. Never once saw her look up/down at a watch or make like she was ready to kick us out the door. She would have been well within her right, the shop was supposed to be closed after all, but never did we feel rushed or unwanted. When something is special to you, you'll drive, fly, walk, bike however long it takes to get there. While I don't live in Elk Grove, I have no reservations from this day forward that The Red Door and the keepers of its specialness are worth the trip to get the things you need to stay curious and creative. read more

If went into their store fir the first tine to pick up Annie Sloan paints as they are the only retailer close by who is an authorized dealer. I was greeted by Jan and I told her what I needed, she basically gave me a tutorial about how to paint with Annie Sloan chalk paints. She was very pleasant to work with and very helpful. It's been quite a while since I have been here, pre COVID for sure. I am so very happy I went today! Locally owned businesses are the way to go. I needed some Annie Sloan paint/waxes, and also found some additional gems I am very excited about. They have a great eye for finding special items. I will be back soon! The absolute CUTEST little local business in Elk Grove! Walking into their shop it is hard to know where to look first, as there are so many gorgeous pieces and trinkets for sale! In addition to having finished pieces for sale, they are Annie Sloan Chalk Paint vendors, and they not only sell it, but also give regular classes to show people how to use it. My husband attended one of the classes and as a result was able to take old, craigslist furniture and do our daughter's entire nursery! And honestly, the best part about this place is their excellent customer service. They remember us every time we come in, and constantly give input on projects and products. If you are a fan of antiques or want to get into refinishing furniture, you cannot go wrong with visiting this shop! read more

I come in here to shop and look around pretty often, I love their antiques selection. It is always displayed so gorgeous and makes me want to buy it all up. I have always been interested in painting an antique furniture piece of mine, but always felt uncomfortable because I didn't want to mess it up. I have now gathered up the courage to paint the dresser, hutch, and crib for my little man on the way. I came to Red Door because I remembered they had all the Annie Sloan and Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paints in stock and I was hoping to pick up some paint chips or actually see the paint colors in person to decide on what color to paint each piece. I walked in and the nicest lady, Peggy, walked me through choosing colors and all the supplies I would need to get started. I was surprised they even had wooden sticks painted with the actual paint for me to take home and visually see what worked in the room!! Fantastic service!! She helped me choose colors for each piece, wrote it all down for me, and gave me an awesome "getting started" info sheet how-to. I came home and LOVE the colors in the room that we chose, I am so excited to go back and pick up everything I need to get started on this project! I wanted to like this place. I really, truly did. But unfortunately my experience left me so horrified I had to make a Yelp account JUST to give them one star. The star is because they do have some pretty cool things in their shop, albeit a little bit on the overpriced side. If it weren't for the interesting items, I would be wishing I could give them zero stars. My complaint is with the terrible customer service I received. Maybe I caught their employee Kate on a bad day, but probably not. I can't imagine anyone coming across as such an entirely miserable human being due to having an off day. The woman acted like I was the bane of her existence for having some questions and needing assistance to get something out of a locked case. If you hate your job so much, Kate, try getting a new one. Red Door is such a terrific shop. I use it exclusively as my gift center. Vintage is so in style these days, and the staff there always have something great to recommend. From an antique bud vase, to vintage jewelry, from great refinished furniture, to chalk painted picture frames, they always have something for everyone. They also have new artwork, jewelry and home decor items from local artists that are lots of fun. Their prices are very reasonable, and their staff is great. Dave's painting seminars are the best, and they have taken the time to help me blend paint colors, etc. for furniture I am working on. It is always a treat to stop in and check out what they have going on. read more
