The manager, Juan kept trying to charge me $10 for a shirt with no tags, and original tags were 6.99 .... So he told me I shoulda got one with tags, well the only other same shirt also had no tags and was stained...,. So he brought back 3 other random shirts and instead of ring one of those up he rang up a neck cooling towel for 6.99 and told me I couldn't return it.... FIRE HIM!!!!!! This is going to be a long review so, hang on tight. I worked at this location for several months before I decided this is not the store for me. When I first got hired, I had a sudden death with my father and needed bereavement time and I was okay with one day being off. I was trying to let all of the managers know that week, letting them know ahead of time. Saying that they will let the main manager know. Mind you, there is no way of communicating. They told me they do not text or call. I even wrote a note and I guess, that had to be thrown away because, what I'm going to say next is UNBELIEVABLE. I finally get to work with the main manager, Enatenesh, her nick name is Enat. I tell her what was going on, she goes off on me, yelling at me saying it is my fault. I had to tell her several times that I tried to be in contact with her and left a note, she still was furious with me and told me that I should be fired. She hired me, I told every manager I've worked with that week, left a note on the managers desk, everything and I get yelled at and saying I should be fired? No respect, no kindness or condolences for losing a parent that was sudden. How am I supposed to have a plan for something that was sudden? That was extremely traumatic and I could never look at her the same after that. Another thing, this store is about NUMBERS, NUMBERS, NUMBERS. Customer service is not their #1 priority. I worked as a Full Time Lead Manager for 2 years at a different company, customer service is what gets you your numbers. At this Ross, I worked as a cashier and every single time, you will hear Enat tell you that your numbers are doing good or bad. Meaning that, if your numbers are bad, that means you're taking too long to scan and need to scan every item fast and call "next" before you're even done with your transaction so you can hurry up and start on the next transaction. The #1 complaint as a cashier, especially during the holidays, was that everyone has no respect and it's like you're trying to get customers out of here. I understand that but, customers should not be treated like they should be rushed out of here and get disrespectful service. I tried with my numbers but also make sure I talk to customers so their visit here was pleasant. I'm a customer here now, no one as a cashier will make conversation with you and the people who check your receipt can come off rude. As a former employee, people I have worked with AND people that I know that have work here the past year have nothing good to say about Enat, and neither do I. The only manager here that's even good and deserves more respect is JJ. She is a Filipina manager and she has always been nice and makes sure you have what you need and that you are satisfied. Enatenesh needs to be re-evaluated as a manager, or maybe even fired. She is extremely rude and has no customer service, not even to her employees. Being rude and being nice is a choice, a decision you make. No matter how hard it is to run a business, it is still a decision you make at the end of the day and she chooses to be rude and careless. She is only nice to those that will get her good numbers, weird. I never forgot about my situation and how careless she was when I was dealing with my father and dealing with another death in my family. Once I started doing great with my numbers, that's when she started being nice. Also on a different note, I came back here so I can get a second job and I wish more people saw the reaction she gave me. When I asked if she was hiring anyone, she immediately goes, "Psh, you!?" as if I had the audacity to ask? Just extremely rude and loud about it too as if she was trying to embarrass me. I was a great worker, I picked up shifts and worked more than I should have at times. I cleaned more than anyone as a cashier and made sure the sensors weren't going off every time. As a customer now, this is still a good store that has more things than what most Ross has but customer service needs EXTREME work or needs new managers that can manage better. Horrible customer service. I wanted to see an item that was locked up and no one was willing. To help me. It says on the locked cabinet to press for help and are allowed to show two items at a time if you want to try it on and see how it looks. One worker came to turn off the alarm but refused to help me. She said I had to stand in a long ass line in order to get help. And she can ring me up. I told her i need to try it before i buy it. And she said "oh well I will get someone whenever I can." Then she went up to the register and called no one. I went to ask other employees for help and one who was just putting away items refused to help saying they are calling her up to help. Yet she stood right in her spot and didn't move. Ross Dress for Less has two locations in Elk Grove now. This is the older location and it starts showing the age. A remodel is needed if Ross wanted to keep this original store in Elk Grove. This store is in a less crowded shopping center and close to the end of the shopping center. So the good thing about this location is getting a parking space in front of the store is so easy. The clothes selling in the whole chain are not as good as they used to be. This one in Elk Grove is no exception. I have hardly been able to find any of the name brands in this store, especially after the new Elk Grove store opened in the Target shipping center, the busiest shopping center in Elk Grove. I guess more of the good stuff is delivered to the new store. The employees in this Ross hardly pay attention to the customers. They seem very busy all the time. Don't expect to get help very fast if you have any questions. I don't know Ross is planning to keep this store after the newly Elk Grove store is opened. I hope they will do a little update in this location if they're going to keep it. read more

I've been in here three times and every time I come in the alarms on the shoes are blaring and it makes it very annoying to shop in the store. The line was also long and employees were not opening up additional check stands, but employees were available and not opening stands or turning off the alarms. This store needs a big overhaul. It is small, old, dated and dirty. The place is understaffed and the workers are very rude and unprofessional. I know this is not a high end department store but they still need to do their job and be nice and be professional. Going on a trip and needed some sandals, flip flops so I decided to stop here since they usually have tons. I was surprised to see the inventory in not just sandals but shoes, was very minimal. It's like a shortage. Everything else was pretty stocked. The greeter was super nice, store was clean. Lines was short. The customer service was not that great. Before the person even completed checking out I was already being called up to be assisted. I felt the person finishing up getting flustered as she was trying to gather her things and put her card away. I always visit this Ross and have never had any issues, in fact Ross is my favorite store, even tho employees almost always never greet or ask if I need help, I still return cause I don't mind being left alone while shopping. But, tonight's visit, when I came in stood in line while they were busy. One checker asks the lady that works the register to return if the return system is up yet. Lady goes "I don't know" then continue to take other customers for purchases, finally the lady that asked about the system being up informs me that the return is down so they're not taking returns. And I said are you sure? How are you going to ask someone if it's down then get a "I don't know" answer to then telling me it's down, no returns. I can no longer recommend this store. I came in with a cart from another store with my Walker in it. No help from the staff standing around but when they saw the cart they went berserk and demandied I switch to their cart. I told them no because their carts can't leave the store and staff will not help you out to your car. They chased me down again demanding I switch carts. I am 72 years old and inviolate so I told them off and left. In addition, it was impossible trying to locate or find what I wanted because the store was so unorganized and messy. If you're here to find professional attire, I suggest going somewhere else. Compared to other Ross stores, this one is smaller in size. Most of the time, it's fairly organized and items are easy to find. Like most Ross stores, they try to pack in as much merchandise in a small space. The result is teeny tiny aisles where only one cart can pass. Heaven forbid you try to go around the cart. I tried it once and fell into a rack of clothes. It's better to just go to a main aisle until the cart exits. There are certain departments I like to hit up: shoes, housewares and plus size women. The shoes and clothes are pretty hit or miss. Sometimes, it feels like Christmas and hitting the lotto at the same time. But most of the time, the merchandise is just okay. I really do like the housewares department, especially for kitchen and bath items. I have also found some good bedding and linens, but the price is not as much of a bargain. Since this is the location closest to my place, this is my go to Ross by default. I would rather go to another Ross, but this will do in a pinch. read more

This Ross is probably one of the busiest stores I go to. Sometimes the lines can be super long, but I think they're only long because they don't have enough staff working the registers. Cashiers will take turns with those making a purchase and also with those doing a return/exchange. So sometimes the wait can be long. But to me, I'm okay with it because not once were the staff ever rude or made you feel rushed. They were still polite. If you get lucky, you can really find cute and great quality items. This is the second time that we come to this store, and both times they have been rude and super racist, one of the times the lady that was cashier told us that she wouldn't charge us because it was already late and she had to go home, we had like $500 on clothes and it wasn't even time to close, and there were more people buying things, so why she couldn't charge us??? Every time I'm in the area, I will coax Joe K. to come with me and check out what kind of stuff might be awaiting within. But the drawback at this store is that it is one of the smaller Ross's, so there isn't as much variety in styles and sizes. They still do a good job at trying to keep up with as much inventory as possible. The clothing racks are full but sizes are limited. A variety of housewares are available, but you may find yourself rummaging through a hodge podge of stuff in order to find specifics. If you are looking for something in particular, be prepared to possibly not find it. But that's what a Ross is all about! While they have a smaller selection than most places they had the cheapest prices on some good carry ons that you may find at stores like Target. I was able to get a good suitcase for $50. Depending on which Ross location you go to, some carry MORE and better items than others! I love coming to Ross for household items. They're stylish and dirt cheap! You can literally furnish a bathroom by picking up essentials such as bath rugs, towels, soap dispensers, toilet paper holder, magazine holder, decors - you name it! Home decors are either hit or miss. They're either really cute or really tacky, lol. They always have shelves full of picture frames for almost any occasion! They always carry border lettering frames that say "sisters" or "best friends" - super cute! You can also find some cute weddings frames here also. It's hard to find cute clothes and shoes here. You have to really dig through their clothes to find something cute. If you're lucky enough you may end up finding a cute pair of Steve Madden boots or Jessica Simpson pumps. Wow!! Dressing rooms closed the whole morning! It's mainly a clothing store!! People (including me) were trying on clothes in the isles, and managers couldn't care less. I got a very rude and brisk "yay... their closed " and then turned away from me. Also, their shoes are so locked together with a large security tag, that you cannot shuffle over to the mirror to look if you start out sitting down. This store is the worst!!
