We were looking for a special place to celebrate a birthday and online reviews had said The Red Maple was good so we made a reservation. Service overall was not good. Literally the day before we got a message saying that the restaurant only had two seating options available as there were other tables or we could cancel; given the late notice we chose the wine rooms. While private, it was also secluded so if we needed anything we would have to go and get the staff since there were infrequent checkups. To add insult to injury, the food was not that great. We had the spinach casserole to start followed by the catfish, shrimp and hamburger. while portion size was decent, flavor and taste quality were lacking. overall poor service and average to below average food made this a disappointing experience

Great food and drinks. great service. And the atmosphere was electric. Great people, nice music at a low him. Dark and moody.

The food is excellent . The lemon drops are good also !!!! I loveeeeee the redfish with crabmeat on top, Caesar salad, corn and crab soup , and creme brûlée!!!!

First time getting the Redfish with the sauce on the side. The redfish was cooked perfectly and the seasonings were excellent. The sauce was very good but I used very little because the fish itself stood out. Perfectly cooked green beans. Definitely will get this again. Yum yum. The gumbo was a thin dark brown roux with very little meat. There was a seasoning in it that I just didn't like. I cannot remember or think what it is but it over powered the gumbo. Hard pass. The hamburger steak had some of that seasoning from the gumbo but definitely not as much. The mashed potatoes were definitely made fresh and creamy. The mushroom gravy for the hamburger steak and mash was very good. The green beans were steamed/boiled with a little snap left in them. Perfectly done.

This place has old school Elegance. The busser Dylan helped us so much with all steps. Brett our server knocked it out of the park too. He took very good care of us. We had three of my very favorite things. Whenever somebody says where should I eat in New Orleans I say you have to try The Red Maple restaurant in Gretna it is worth the drive from The busy stuff. Absolutely nothing disappointed. They've really done some cute stuff with the patio outside. They've opened for lunch on Thursdays and Fridays which is such a treat! Wednesdays and Thursdays are steak nights and our 18 Oz ribeye was $39 with mashed potatoes and a house salad. Totally worth it. I didn't take a picture of the bread pudding because it's not warmed up yet. If I think about it I'll come add it.

This place was wonderful! It had every kind of NOLA fare you wanted available on their menu. The service was awesome. Manager stopped by a few times to ensure everything was great. And the ambiance is adorable. It has a cottage feel with a courtyard that is decorated and a great opportunity for a photo op!

Overpriced mediocre food. Not going back to pay $12 for crabmeat swimming in ketchup. Seriously?

Seriously with the revitalization of OCH/Dryades corridor, it's great to see such lovely historic buildings come back into their own.

I want to start by saying how excited I am for the development of the entire Oretha Castle Haley corridor. I think in a year it is going to be one of the hottest areas in the city. It took me a few minutes to actually find this place at first. My good ol' GPS just led me to the 1400 block of OCH and left me to find the actual building on my own. Just a note: it's on a corner and I took a picture of the door, so that you can be on the lookout. The venue itself is lovely. It's a wide open space with a nice bar and plenty of seating. There is gorgeous art on the wall and I like that there is a lot of space to move around. Big selling point: the air conditioning here works like a champ. A lot of times you get into these old buildings, and the ac can't keep up with the space, but that was not the case here. Plenty of windows let in the light during the day, which I am always a fan of; I hate going to dark event spaces during the day and feeling like I'm in a dungeon. There is a stage area where students for Big Class read poems. I presume that other performances take place on the stage as well. There are even some sofas for comfy seating as you enjoy whatever is happening on stage or just mingling with friends. I didn't get to explore it, but there's an upstairs area as well. It should be noted that the building is located on an extremely well lit block, so if you attend an event here at night you should feel pretty safe. I look forward to attending more events here and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more fundraisers that may be held here.
