Another great trip on July 5th with Wes Dyer from the Reel Life! We fished the Chama below El Vado Lake. Beautiful area and wild, scenic river. Reminiscent of Montana. Wes was an expert at having me work parts of the water that I would have passed over... great advice and it yielded some beautiful Browns and rainbows. Highly recommend!

We had 2 wonderful guides for our group of 4 yesterday, on the Rio Grande. None of us had fly fished before. Kyle & Dan were amazing & very experienced guides. They taught us the basics of casting, where to cast, and how to maneuver the Rio Grande. It was a great day, and everyone came home happy. I'd highly recommend the Reel Life guides, and they can help you at their store for equipment, flies, clothing, maps, etc. Great business! Diana & Thad of Santa FE

After booking online, we had a seamless connection and went by the shop to purchase our licenses. It was my wife and I's first time to fly fish, and we were paired up with Nik Adler. First of all, Nik, was awesome and had my wife catching fish right away. He knew what flies were catching and how to fish them. My wife's rod tip broke and Nik was happy to loan his set up to her, and she didn't miss a beat. He did everything possible to teach us the things needed to know to really start our fly fishing addiction. We highly recommend The Reel Life and Nik Adler. We are definitely going on another fishing trip with them soon!

What an amazing experience we just had with the Reel Life. We are a family of 3 coming from San Antonio to try our first time at fly fishing. Our Lodge in Chama- Corkins Lodge, recommended "the Reel Life" from Santa Fe. When I called I talked to a guide named Wes. We clicked after discovering he was a Vet like my husband and I eventually asked if he would be our guide. Over the next several weeks leading up to our vacation Wes stayed in constant contact with us and coordinated everything for us. He even drove several hours a couple weeks early to scout out the river for our trip. On the day of our trip he showed up on time with all the gear and pumped up ready to go. During our day of fishing he was awesome. He put us on fish immediately and had our gear set up perfect. He even made our 14 year old daughter comfortable and she loved the trip. He was super patient and friendly the whole day. I have to say that the price we paid was worth every dime. It included all gear and even a pretty good lunch.Thank God we weren't paying by the flies lost to trees He is a great guide and will make any trip you want the best We will definitely use The Reel Life and Wes again next year.

Had a great time fishing with Ivan! Very patient as I constantly tangled my line and he had my son fishing like a pro within a few minutes. He's a true teacher of the sport. We caught more fish on that river than we've ever caught in our life! Awesome trip!!!

I live in Massachusetts but traveling thru New Mexico. I'm an avid fisherman but had never fly fished. So I contacted Reel Life...I needed instruction as well the equipment. They had it all. I got Nick as a guide and what a great and patient instructor he is. We got on the Pecos River and pretty much started catching beautiful rainbow trout right away. Nick is very knowledgeable and passionate and was a terrific teacher. We moved down the river as the day went on and probably hit 10 different holes. We caught fish at every one. 20+ for the day. Nick also provided a great lunch. I couldn't be happier with the instruction, techniques learned and of course catching fish.

This section of the river is calmer so its perfect for a relaxing float where you can spot wildlife and enjoy the grandeur of the gorge. You can opt to paddle a "funyak" on your own rather than go in the group raft. It's basically an inflatable kayak and my boyfriend and I chose that. It worked out well since there was only one other person in our group and they also chose a funyak. Check in is easy at the cafe in Pilar, about 20 minutes south of Taos and then you meet your guide at the gorge's visitor center across the street. Zac was our guide and he was a chill, cool guy but also focused on our safety and helped us navigate some shallow areas and one, small, class two rapids. He shared some stories about the river and its people and plant life. We got to see sheep climbing down the gorge to come drink in the river, a great blue heron and lots of ducks. It was a slow pace but that's what I was looking for. The funyaks were a little more challenging to navigate than regular kayaks (to me anyway.) They were lighter and seemed to spin and meander more. It was still a pleasant journey-just took a bit more concentration to paddle-especially with the two person boat we chose. Safety helmets and life jackets are provided and required. At the end, we shuttled back to the visitor center and our cars and Zac brought some apples, cookies and chips for the group. What a fun and memorable way to end my time in Taos. Los Rios is fun, friendly, easy to work with and I'd absolutely go again! Don't forget to tip your guide and also be ready to get a little wet, even on a more mellow trip. Had an awesome time on the river!

Our guide, Jose, was absolutely phenomenal! He has so much knowledge of Santa Fe and the food scene, and you can definitely tell he is passionate about the cuisine there. He was extremely personable, funny, and was happy to answer any questions and tell us lots of stories! Really just an overall joy! It was also super fun that everyone in the group was visiting from out of town and many of us loved doing food tours in other cities so we got to swap food tour stories and whatnot. Here's a list of our stops and what we had: La Fogata Grill - taco and margarita Del Charro - enchilada with both sauces and margarita San Francisco St Bar and Grill - half of a green chili cheeseburger and margarita Senor Murphy Candymaker - various sweet treats Everything was absolutely phenomenal - I really can't pick a favorite dish because they were all so yummy. But the Del Charro meal convinced me to always order "Christmas" sauce the rest of my stay in Santa Fe. My favorite margarita was definitely the one at San Francisco! And also, there was one person in the group that didn't drink and they were very accommodating to give him some fancy mocktails instead of cocktails (or boring soda!). Thanks for making my birthday extra special with some fantastic bites and sips!

You meet at the End of the trip pick-up point , The Alameda Bridge, then Nick takes you to the put-in point , About 8 miles north. He sets up the kayaks gave us a few brief pointers on what you remember and off we went. The cruise was great. The water was cold but not at all uncomfortable. Even though the kayaks are hardshell and a bit wider, hence more stable, we still managed to capsize one after a mistake we made approaching a narrow passage. We capsized the kayak BUT righting it was surprisingly easy. With the mountains to the east and the natural environment along the river, with ducks and egrets, the trip down the river was scenic. We both really loved the solitude, and the quiet, except for the sounds of nature. Just a thoroughly enjoyable paddle down the river. We were grateful to come across this business,Spirit Fly Expeditions, to be able to do this. Have thought often about maybe getting kayaks but at 68 & 72 years old I'm not sure how much we would use them, especially given the processes of getting them on and then off the river. We found this to be a great opportunity to experience the river via KAYAK without having to purchase them and then deal with those processes. With this option available to us, I see us on the river several times a year, maybe with friends, visitors to Albuquerque, etc. as well. When we arrived at the pick up point. Nick was there to greet us. We got out of the kayaks thanked him and off we went. He took care of everything else. Again, we were grateful to have this service to be able to have the river kayaking experience. Without this service it would not have happened for us. We're already planning another trip with some friends. If this sounds like an experience you would enjoy we highly recommend Nick and Spirit Fly Expeditions.
