We opted for a special with Los Rios River Runners tours to do water rafting and dinner. We had a blast!! The water rafting is first so you meet up at their local office and they drive you over to the river where you unload and grab your paddles and life jackets. Then we floated the river, paddling our way along and being mesmerized by the immaculate views for about an hour. Then afterwards, we sat down to a nice grilled steak, with potatoes and salad. There was another worker that grilled for us while we floated so it would be ready as soon as we were done. You actually had two meal options, I got the steak, but V got an amazing tamale meal smothered with molé sauce. Both meals were delicious and filled us up. I highly recommend doing this. It was so fun and an overall great experience. Be sure to tip your amazing chef and guide. "That was epic!!" - my 7 year old the entire trip

I highly recommend Los Rios River Runners. We did the afternoon racecourse trip. It was very easy to schedule. The directions provided in the confirmation email were very helpful. This was our first time to go rafting. My kids, 9 and 7 years old, absolutely loved it and had no problems with the rapids thanks to our amazing guide, Alissa. Make sure you ask her about the life cycle of a river rafting bus. We will definitely use Los Rios River Runners again and go on a longer excursion.

what an a amazing experience on half day down the racecourse section of RioGrande. as a novice group Shea took great care of us and knew every inch of this section and guided us superbly. it got us in all the rights channels to safely navigate the rocks and class 2,3 rapids. wow!!!!

But new wave rafting cares about the people more. I'm gonna be back as much as possible. 1000% recommend these guys. Use new wave I promise you won't be disappointed. Also awesome pics too. Britt, the owner, met us before we headed out for our float, and we just casually conversed until it was time to go. Our outing coincided with a group of 25 Boy Scouts, so we could've been quickly lost in the shuffle, but Socia held us back and let the kids get way out ahead of us, so we felt like we were all by ourselves for the majority of the trip. She was so considerate and engaging and made it feel like we were on the river with an old friend. At the end of the trip, Britt met us again and hung out while we ate just casually conversing as if once more, we were catching up with an old friend. Thank you, Socia and Britt for the memory of a lifetime! Our little guy hasn't stopped talking about whitewater rafting on the Rio Grande.

As we got close he decides to stop in the middle of a wide part that we could have easily passed him. He started waving his hands at us to stop and gave us a pissy look. THEN he decides to back up and move over and let us through. We have been Jeeping the trails of NM and CO for almost 20 years so we're not rookies. We had the right of way and he stopped in the middle of a wide spot. We have been offroading in the area for over a month now and this was the only rude person we have passed on the trail. Everyone else has been smiling and accommodating to others as are we. After we were done with that trail we were wanting to do another and I had remembered researching one but didn't bring the info with me. I figured one of the outfitter/tours/adventure stores might have a map. The first place we passed was RR Offroad. Walked into the mess of a front waiting area and he yelled he'd be down. Lo and behold it was the same rude guy. Explained I was looking for a offroad map and he abruptly told me no one in town would have that kind of stuff. That seemed odd. I also asked if anyone in town sold stickers with the passes/trails on them (like they do in Silverton/Ouray so I could add to my collection). He laughed at me and told me just to grab some of the dirt as a souvenir. Which in a national forest I'm pretty sure is illegal. So I said nevermind and walked out. We went down a block to Bighorn Sports & Rentals and I walked into a clean shop with a guy behind the counter with a friendly face that was glad to help me figure out where the trail I wanted was and happily sold me a map. Now I'm not sure if this guy's attitude changes as long as he's getting your money. But after the day's encounters with him there's no way in hell I'd give him one dime of our hard earned money. Buyer beware. And yes this my first ever Yelp review. I was treated THAT bad.

My most recent bucket list adventure was fly fishing in New Mexico. Not to be disappointed I called…read moreand spoke to Van Beacham the man that literally wrote the book 'Fly Fishers Guide to New Mexico'. 575-758-5653. Van set me up with the most patient and and learned instructor for all ages and abilities in Mr. Conner Cooper who is also a middle school teacher of social studies and art and history, play by ear musician, (Upright Bass) and classically trained artist at the Pratt Institute in NYC, and UNM adjunct professor, originally hails from Amarillo, Texas (I knew I liked him for a reason) and now living in New Mexico of course. He has been to Argentina 4 times fly fishing and has studied the fly casting techniques of Joan Wulff ,who at 21 years in 1951, she became the first woman in history to win the Fisherman's Distance Event, casting 131 feet against all-male competition, a truly remarkable achievement. I had only fly fished for Bass in stock ponds or "tanks" as we call them in Texas and had a self taught fly casting technique about as rough as Park road 102 in Kit Carson national forest. (You better have Jeep if you want to try that one. Glad we did cause I told my wife it was short cut, got in trouble for the underestimation of comfort even a Grand Cherokee can provide) What you will learn is the "DRIFT" how to place cast, the power snap, , the double haul and other techniques (don't expect to master these right away it does a bit a bit practice but no worries you not be casting but a few feet most of the time, and to use the correct amount of line, the correct stroke, to use the lanes or clock approach to covering a body of water and rising the line as it comes towards you while only keeping just enough line in the water so your fly or nymph does not speed to fast because you had too much line in the water. Et al. It is those little things that make the difference. It is all about finesse fishing. The art and beauty of the presentation of a perfectly placed lure that nets a catch. Ah.... the essence of the physical beauty of the stroke up and then wait for it then forward right into the lair of the waiting trout! It is truly a gift of motion and fishing and surroundings and the air, the place, the drive in, lunch in the open air, even bottled water tastes better for some reason, the knowledgeable guide, all the tiny techniques if you listen to Conner no matter what you think know about fly fishing, peace and be still and listen to make you a better fisherman a better person, patience enhanced human that takes the day back to the family and celebrates the event as it relates in some way to some area of your life. Look for it and you will find how it has that meaning. WOW - you got all that out of a guide fly fishing day. Yes and more. A lifetime memory that cannot easily be diminished all to the thanks of Conner Cooper teacher of young minds, musician, artist, fly fishing guide extraordinaire. Do yourself a favor. If you have not fly fished and want a guide with the patients of Job (and I don't mean Dr. Job) that can put you on the fish here is the man, the legend, outstanding in the field (but will come inside for dinner) the one, the only Conner Cooper.
