It was my first time here at the golf driving range. I've never golf or practice so this was perfect. I learned about stance, posture and swings. The range basically helps golfers learn how far they can hit the ball with each specific club, from wedges to drivers. Good thing my brother and sisters brought the clubs which i was able to practice with. Im not sure of the pierce for the balls but it was self serve and from what my sister told me, it was cheap for 2 buckets of 100 balls. It was pretty fun but a very hot day! read more

We held my daughter's baby shower at The Reserve yesterday (Sunday) and I cannot say enough about this venue and their staff! I worked with Rebecca, The Reserve Event and Sales Director, and she was great to work with from the very first phone call, to communications via email, as well as in-person. Rebecca responded to emails quickly and thoroughly answered my questions about the venue. We set up an in-person meeting to go over the the final details and as I arrived home, I already had an email from Rebecca with the drafted layout of the room, and it was exactly what we talked about! Rebecca stopped by early that morning to check on us, even though she was at a wedding reception there late the night before. We had the BEST bartender for our mimosa bar. He was professional, friendly and was great communicating with the guests. We had around 50 guests at the shower and I am so grateful we were able to reserve this beautiful venue surrounded by the beautiful green golf course. read more

I have been to multiple parties at the reserve, but this is the first time I have organized a party here. The process was so smooth and I plan to use them again many times in the future. The coordinator, Rebecca, had friendly and quick communication throughout the entire process and was able accommodate any requests I had. The food tasted great. The entire staff was friendly, the bartender Nick, had a fun vibe the whole night. The room looked so cute with their Christmas decorations. Challenging course in Stockton, CA! Tee boxes lay flat with the grass, bunker galore, lots of water, nice wide fairways on the front, and ultra fast greens. The wind does not give up at this course and the rough is ROUGH. Grass is high and thick. The water on the 18th hole was not my friend. Don't ask me how many balls I lost. lol The front nine is a lot more friendly than the back, so something to keep in mind. I played a round here in March and considering all the rain, it was in pretty good shape. Aside from the course being well maintained, Spanos is a gorgeous course. Nice scenery with Mount Diablo serving views on the back nine and the restaurant patio overlooks a lake. Stunning at sunset. Midday tee times on a weekday can run up to 68 bucks. Those are some Country club prices for a public course...no thanks. Expensive but honestly, honestly, I most likely will play here again. read more

I have played here once a year for maybe the last 10 years or so or however long the Jim and Ethel Pavlakis Memorial Golf Tournament has been at this location. Years ago it was held at Turlock Country Club and I don't recall when it moved. Not much of a golfer these days mostly because I would rather spend time with my awesome partner instead of a days with a bunch of guys. Hence once a year I play this tournament. Back to the course. Being an Alex Spanos creation you would expect a really nice course and it is. The fairways greens and tees are always meticulously maintained. Some of the bunkers are hard and others are nice fluffy sand. Not sure why. Lots and lots of water here to gobble up those golf balls if you have a bad hook or slice. Geese are everywhere at least in the first part of October when we all play. For a few years there was a 3 legged coyote running around. Yes we referred to him as tripod. Being right on the delta there is typically a wind that can mess you up and it does get hot in the late spring, summer and early fall. I think it was 101 when we played on Oct 7. The club house is nice with an adequate stocked bar and decent food. A great patio overlooking the course. There is also an event space that probably handles 200 people. At the tournament we have Greek sausage right off the grill. Out on the course a girl drives around with beer and water. Not sure if this is just for our tournament or not. I have no idea what memberships are or green fees since I have only played this course as part of a tournament. read more

We got married there on 4/15/2023 and everything went amazingly well that day and we cannot express how appreciative we are for everything that you guys did for us! Paola is the wedding coordinator and she is so friendly and attentive and very supportive! We had about 80 guests and we had our own budget and she helped us to keep within our budget!! And on our wedding day, she had to cover bartender shift and she did amazing too!! Wow, she is a multi tasking!! Our experience at the Spanos Reserve Golf was amazing!!! STAY FAR AWAY. If I could give 0 stars I would. Don't waste your time here. MICHELLE had the WORST customer service I've ever experienced. It was so backed-up it took 5+ hours for one round. If you're in the area, highly recommend Stockton Golf & Country Club instead. One of the employees told my group to go in the wrong direction, caused an accident and refused to take responsibility. Instead she insisted on suspending our ability to play because we had to go to the clubhouse to use the RESTROOM. Worst customer service I've ever experienced from a course. read more

Just played this course for the first time yesterday. It's definitely a spot you'll have to play a few times to know the layout and which angles you need to play for and where you need to avoid. The greens were very quick (especially above the hole) and true but very receptive on approaches. Some of the holes were a little too much "target golf" for me but that's a personal preference. The pro shop and restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly. This place can definitely get breezy in the afternoon but that's to be expected in that area. I wouldn't hesitate to return to this course again if I'm in the area. read more

Have always liked this course. Tour quality greens most of the time. However yesterday I teed off around noon with three scratch juniors for a practice round in preparation for a big HS tournament. Course was jam packed, three groups each hole. Was never less than two groups waiting to tee off on every tee box. About 5 holes in, the martial came to tell us we needed to clear the greens faster so groups behind could speed up, even though a group was still waiting to tee off on the next hole. ‍ I'm sure he singled us out because we had teenage girls in the group. Too lazy to head to the front of the line and figure out where the real problem was. Lost on him that we waiting 15 min to hit single shot. Very annoying and it's clear they have no idea how to manage pace of play. *But if you only came for a course condition review...it's fine. :) read more

Had a company event here and the service was bad . My coworker was eating and the waiter just took her plate without asking if she was done , and like four tables had no bus person remove the plates when they were done eating , the bartender had no clue on how to make a margarita . The food was bad too , the bread was really hard and the rice was under cooked . The place is nice and good space but the staff needs better training. Overall , I wouldn't come here to reserve a wedding nor any event . read more

Before you book a tee time be sure you can play 18 holes in 4 hours according to Tim (General Manager) who says they switched the place of play from 4.5 hours to 4 hours since COVID. We were harassed by the Marshall after walking off the 8th hole. We finished 9 holes in 2:05 hours and 18 holes in 4:10 minutes in which we waited for the group ahead of us holes 10-18. FYI, all 4 in my group were walkers. I have played this course several times per year for the past 17 years and never were held to such a stringent pace of play. I have played high end public courses from Tahoe to Monterey over the years as well as recently and their pace of play for 18 holes is 4:30 minutes. If 4 hours is in fact their new pace of play for Spanos I will not play that course again especially because I'm a regular walker and refuse to place "Speed Golf". read more

I really didn't want to take it this far but I have been waiting weeks for a response from Tim the general manager to get back to me and nothing. I had my wedding there Sept. 17th and My "coordinator" Paola was a complete nightmare. I tried communicating with her for weeks before my wedding and she would wait days to return my emails to the point I had to talk with her GM. She never made time to answer my questions. My reception area was not done on time. I ended up setting up my own memory table, dessert table, and sweetheart table. We never received our champagne toast that was supposed to be included in my package. She was rude to my guest and I ended up apologizing to my guests all night. I will never recommend this venue to anyone. Here's the email that I sent to Tim: Sept. 19, 2022 Hello, I just wanted to say thank you for all of your help during this wedding. You were very nice and put me at ease on the day of. I wanted to give kudos to Anthony. I know it was very hectic. He remained professional the whole time and was trying to do his job to the best of his ability. However, there was miscommunication with Paola. I understand that it was very busy and more people showed up than I was expecting. I told her I would pay for 15 more plates and asked if they could just put out tables so people could at least sit down. It's a wedding and they don't always run smoothly. I wasn't able to control too much as I was getting pulled here and there. Several of my guests told me that she was throwing their food on their plate, rude to them, and short with them. My pastor was trying to appease the situation. At the end of the night Paola said she fed everyone and I didn't agree to that as I was talking to my pastor when she said she came to me and asked if I wanted for her to bring out more food. My pastor was talking to me about how he was going to get food for the people that didn't eat. So there was where the miscommunication happened because I told her I was only paying for 15 more plates. That is all I could afford. She then stated "So you want us to feed your whole family for free" I told her no, I was going to pay for the 15 extra plates. My cousin was standing there and trying to tell that what I said because she was there when I said it. Paola told my cousin "I'm talking to the people that are paying." and it wasn't what she was saying but the tone in which she said it in. When we only trying to figure everything out and have an understanding. My pastor who is also my cousin was also on the phone at this point trying to help and Paola made the comment of "We're not going to make their pastor pay for the food." A couple of my bridesmaids got upset and was disrespectful to Paola because they were reacting to the tone she used with them. I was trying to end everything on a good note and unfortunately that didn't happen. A majority of my guest said that the venue was beautiful, everything was beautiful but they wouldn't want to have an event where they felt like they were not welcome and the only person they pointed out was Paola that made them feel that way. She made comments to me like "that's why this wedding was so slow!" As a person paying for a service I felt that was very unprofessional and unwarranted. She was rolling her eyes and I can tell she was frustrated. But you're in the business of service. I can't control how my party reacted to her but I also was not going to let anything escalate which is my I asked them to leave. My Maid of Honor was standing and waiting for my to sign my receipt, she did not say anything to Paola. She was just waiting for me because I was her ride and she was not one of the people that was confrontational with her at all. Paola said the her " The event was over at 10. you need to leave now!". Very rudely. And I will not be having any events there anymore as long as she is working there. I didn't appreciate her tone, her lack of communication, or her attitude with my guests at all. This should have been the best day of my life but I spent it apologizing to my guests as to how they were treated by one of your staff members. I always try to make the best out of a situation and not let it effect my day but I really thought you should know. I have paid thousands of dollars to your company only to receive this level of service from one person, everyone else was professional. I asked if the final bill included the $690.03 that I should have been refunded. They told me it was but when I did the calculations for 15 people at $45 it was $675 total. So my money that was supposed to be refunded to me was enough to cover the 15 extra plates. Yet I still paid $1125 on Saturday. I'm attaching the last BEO I received. It's not my fault that Paola misunderstood what I said and everyone was not fed. I feel like that should $1125 should be refunded to me because I only agreed to pay for 15 extra plates. This is my first Yelp review, likely motivated by how grateful I am to have found a golf course still open during our current state of lockdown. A friend from work and I played The Reserve at Spanos on Friday. The first thing I'll comment on is the driving range: Real Grass, and a flat hitting surface! A true unicorn in the East Bay. Now to the course. This is one of those tracks that continues to jump my rankings as I look back at my round. The layout had a little bit of everything. There are no trees to speak of, and no forced carries I can recall, but the water and fairway bunkers provide a fair challenge for wayward tee shots. Many greens were well guarded by traps, and with the forward pins ball placement was critical. The greens themselves were deceptively quick, and I found myself under reading the majority of the breaks. It looks like they were punched within the last couple of weeks, but I found no fault with the roll. The progressions of the holes reminded me of a good album where each song flows seamlessly to the next, rather than a collection of discrete tunes. I apologize for how lame that sounds, but I can't think of a better way to describe it. It felt like a collection with an overarching intent. From my perspective, the only knock on this course is the hard sand. Other than that I have nothing negative. A hidden gem of a course that I look forward to playing many times this year. Course in amazing shape. Best greens I've played on all year and I play a lot of golf. Staff was nice, pace was good. Only reason I take a star off was there weren't many options for buying a dozen balls in the pro shop. Anything premium had to be purchased by the sleeve. Not the end of the world maybe they just ran out who knows, had a great day. Also, best driving range in the area+Sacramento area(public at least) perfect grass. read more

I don't appreciate paying $60 at a "public course" to be told to speed it up while I'm in a foursome in two golf carts. We finished our round in 4hrs and 12 mins. We were following a foursome (who didn't get talked to, because they have memberships to a public course) and we were being followed by a two some with individual carts (also members). My group really doesn't need a non paid volunteer who gets free golf, to bother me while on the sixteenth hole with no one behind us. The course was is excellent shape, bit no matter how nice it is doesn't allow people to treat us crueley. I'd much rather pay $35 to play Swenson in 4hrs and 12 minutes... Especially when they will treat me fairly and I will leave there feeling like I had a good time instead of disrespected and mistreated. BTW the greens were outstanding (I just never had enough time to read them). read more

Golf lessons for kids is a scam!!!!!! No instructions how to grip or stand. One hour lesson consists of ... 15 mins talking and a lame stretch 15 mins. Taking turns at putts my child got 4 turns hitting 3 balls. No instructions or help with each player, change over to the range. 15 mins. of talking 15 mins. taking turns hitting 3 balls. No help they just hit the best they can. Two teams of 3 staff, whom are just standing there! They are told not to use the clubs we brought so they can use the class equipment.... Which is just handed to them not measured. My child got clubs that were too long then too short. Then it's over. Maybe the worst class I have ever seen!!!!! Save your money. I recently played The Reserve on a Sunday evening and had a terrible experience with a very rude employee named JT Kohut. Upon teeing off on hole 11 I was approached by JT who was also playing golf. JT very aggressively without any explanation starts off by accusing our group of stealing a round of golf. JT's statement to me was that because he personally did not see our group on the front nine when he was playing golf that our group couldn't have been on hole 11 and that we must've went around the course twice. After attempting to explain to JT that this wasn't the case and that our group is on the correct hole JT tells us that we are lying. JT then calls the clubhouse to have us kicked off of the golf course. A second employee who is actually on the clock comes out to hole 11 and immediately recognizes us from being in the club house not to long ago. The second employee apologizes for the inconvenience and for the behavior of JT. The second employees statement to me was that JT who is a paid youth/adult instructor at The Reserve is known for being rude and not a nice person. JT then continued to play his round of golf and offered our group no apology or sincerity for his accusations. It's very sad to see that The Reserve employs someone who demonstrates this type of behavior which to me seems to be an ongoing occurrence. This is especially worrisome if this JT individual interacts with youth golfers just getting into the sport. I hope this review will help anyone thinking of taking their young son or daughter to receive lessons here. Other than our groups experience with JT Kohut the course was in excellent condition. read more

We hosted a birthday party here and it was wonderful! Paola, Carly, and Marissa made planning so easy and the entire event staff was awesome. They tended to my guests' needs, kept the venue clean, and provided and overall great party experience. The appetizer display was nice and also delicious. I finally got a chance to play this course. It's a links course so there's virtually no trees. This is a pretty nice course but the delta winds can get a bit strong from what I hear. All I can say is that I really don't like the water magnets were I lost a few golf balls. Ha! The greens, fairways, and tee boxes are well kept. Although I didn't explore the clubhouse, it looked pretty nice. I'll definitely play this course again! read more

I recently had my wedding here, both ceremony and reception, and I have to say I was very disappointed in the lack of effort to try to make this as smooth as possible. Day before my wedding, I was promised to have that day to drop off all of my decorations and fresh flowers in the reception hall, and to have the refrigerator but instead they held a golf convention there all day, so I was not allowed in that hall. One guest in particular that is my friend and coworker from Kaiser and St Joes said that the event coordinator was very rude to her because she brought outside alcohol during the event but instead of telling her to put the alcohol back in her car, she was very rude and snatched the bottle out of her off of the table and poured it out. And demanded that that guest leave all in all, I would not recommend weddings here I just did not have a great experience like I was promised. read more

I have a 30 mile rule (unless for business) as I live in Elk Grove and wont drive more than 30 miles to play golf - therefore I play The Reserve @ Spanos, Teal Bend, Turkey Creek, Empire & any Lincoln Course As far as the review from T V - well maybe this course doesn't want players like you to play here / I looked at T V other reviews and HE doesn't have a nice thing to say about anything OR anyone........ Regardless; great greens, great fairways, challenging holes and overall a golfers sanctuary. Review just for golf. Played for my first time here on a Saturday and, amazingly, we finished in just over 4 hours. We had 3 and never once got pressed or had to wait, which automatically makes for an enjoyable round. The story of this course is wind, often 2- to 3-clubs worth. You will hit into it, side winds and have it behind you for a few big drives. There is a decent amount of water, case in point the first par 5 that has water just to the left of the green. Some of the holes are a little repetitive, slight doglegs and wide open fairways, but it's also fun to hit driver a lot, which this course lets you do. The par 3s are all kind of the same, bunkers near the green and like 120-160 from the whites. The greens are getting a bit beat up but pretty good roll still. Sand in traps a little sparse. The 18th is a classic par 4 with water just to the right of the green that you will have to contend with if you have a back pin and want to go for it. Price was pretty fair for prime time on a Saturday, about $60 with cart. It's a good local course but not necessarily a special destination trip. read more

Love the course, but I'm curious as to why no one (not a single worker) in the pro shop was wearing a mask or social distancing. I get it when the doors are open and you are behind the plexiglass barrier it's probably ok, but this was not cool, especially when most customers were following the statewide mandate.
