Like so many other reviewers, the buildings, rooms, some of the furniture and carpet in the lodges, activity center, etc. surely needs a refresh. To me these are all cosmetic problems, and if updated would surely enhance the stay at this resort. But you do get what you pay for. We did not stay in the main hotel so I can't comment on those accommodations. Breakfast is included in the cost of your stay and for the price the food is tasty and well presented (see pics). So, I wanted to take my daughter for a spa experience and chose Glade Springs. I upped our reservation to a Manor House Suite. The picture and description are SO VERY OFF. The Manor Houses are actually two story houses that have a central gathering area with a fire place, two fold out couches, a full kitchen and dining area for a small family or group. The 4 rooms on each floor have two queen beds, so yes, you would have to get all four rooms to sleep 12 and best of luck organizing 12 people in 4 bathrooms -- yeah, that's just 4 toilets. And, at least in my view, there is nothing accessible about this place, including the doors out to the front porch which were locked tight. I was happy that we had the entire building to ourselves, not so happy that when I turned the bathroom fan on, a bunch of debris fell from the ceiling. As for the resort -- I'm sure the golfers are happy here. Everybody else, stay somewhere else, come here for the spa. The ladies were great. We were VERY happy with our massages, facials, and nail services. We also tried (and failed miserably) the escape room -- not the escape room fault. The cost was a little out there for the room, but that was okay -- it was a treat. What I had a lot of grief for was that I was essentially double charged for "resort fees" (which I used none of) and spa fees (which I paid plenty for). Bottom line -- don't believe what you see in the photos, and especially complain -- A LOT -- when you cannot get into buildings easily with a wheelchair, walker, or cane. And complain -- A LOT -- when you trip and fall from the crumbling brick stairs and walkways. To get into the fitness center, we had to call to get a door open in an area where the trash cans were stored. My husband and I visited the resort late August 2025 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. l was concerned about prior complaints about the rooms being shabby but did not find that to be the case. We stayed at the Inn (hotel) which was renovated last summer and our suite was spacious and in good condition. The grounds were beautifully landscaped and well maintained. I really enjoyed the fact that you can walk to almost everything. The leisure center is further away but there's a shuttle you can call if you don't want to drive. Staff was friendly and helpful with a shout out to Carla in reservations, Steve at the front desk of the hotel and Chester at the golf course. The only disappointment we had was that the Glade Bar and Grill was closed our entire 3 day stay and the Rotunda breakfast was closed for two days. (BTW-There's a nice restaurant called The Dish in Daniels, and a good steak house called Char in Beckley which was 30 minutes away.). And I do agree with the criticism of Mallard Lake, it's a pond not a lake and you could paddle it end to end in 5-10 minutes. We toured one of the Manor houses and one of the Lodges and they were in good condition and would be excellent for larger groups. We were traveling through WV and needed a place to stay. It was a very weird experience for us but hard to put my finger on it. We travel a lot and chose this spot because I read crime was higher in many spots in WV and the price seemed comparable (a bit more but way more amenities) to the Hilton we had just stayed in at Richmond. The front desk lady was delightfully accommodating over the phone and wanted to make sure we got the best room we could. I definitely felt safe bc there is a gate with a helpful attendant working there checking cars coming in. The grounds were pretty and it is a HUGE area. It just felt weird... and maybe it was the clientele they are used to catering to. A weirdly uppity golf community with a couple "fake" employees trying to be fancy. There were many options of fun to choose from (bowling, basketball and pickle ball courts, escape room $) movie theater) but many things seemed run down or were closed. The arcade was closed... the pool and hot tub definitely needed maintenance. We asked about kayak rental but the guy said they needed 24 hour notice to staff the lake (which was a mucky pond we later discovered so that was a relief) We did try the wizard escape room (super pricy for 3...but forgetting price) and although the girl running it was so sweet it was super frustrating and impossible to complete (ie: candles don't all blow out or can't tell which rocks are glowing or properly placed when watching us through the camera) There is no restaurant/bar on the main lodge premises so we had to wait for a shuttle to go to the restaurant/bar (still located in the gated community but seems like an on site one would make sense) The food was decent (a bit pricey) and the artwork on the wall was ... odd...but interesting. We were not allowed to eat at the other restaurant on site bc we needed a collared shirt and closed toe shoes. (*eye roll*) I will say it was nice to have a shuttle to take us to and from... but in all reality, we would have preferred a hotel or air bnb in town. This place has potential... but appears to be a bit too much like a political schmoozy place to rub elbows and make side deals. It definitely needs an upgrade too with lots of falling apart items. Golf course yes..resort, a heck no!!!!! Rooms with stains all over carpet, mildew stains across entire shower, clear water damage from room above, and all wrapped in a not so subtle musty smell. The casual restaurant is what you would expect, but Glades was a train wreck. For a bill totaling just under $300 for a party of four with only two glasses of wine, to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. Veal was WAY over cooked, sea bass was certainly not fresh and near inedible. While the filet was fine it could not make up for the balance of the meal and the lackluster service. I recommend staying somewhere else if you want to golf. We STARTED in the Executive Suites. Immediately smell of feet and mildew punched you in the face. The chairs, beds and couches were also damp. Our friends had ant problems in their room. Went to the front desk to get things sorted since we were staying 3 nights. The front desk associate was apologetic and gave us new rooms. Alas, same thing with the smell and dampness in 3 more rooms. She then moved us to the hotel to see if it was better. Walked through 4 more rooms and same thing. I'm worried there is black mold all over this "resort". Finally, we found rooms that wouldn't stain my clothes of smell, even though there was still a damp stench. Felt obligated to stay at "resort" with my son since we drove over 4 hours. The Staff was fantastic and so accommodating at the rec. center and shuttle service. 5 stars to them! Went to get a FACIAL at the SPA Orange. I assumed I would be coming into a nice relaxing area where its quiet with spa music. It was nice until the manager walked in. First thing she said to the associate was, "what's the deal with Amber". The associate was more professional that she was by not engaging in the gossip with her while I was sitting there. For the rest of the ten minutes, I learned about how horrible the rest of the staff is at running the "resort", the health insurance, and why she takes days off because she doesn't want to go to the meetings.-- Wait 10 minutes until I am gone to talk badly about other managers and how Glade Springs is run, please. Our third day, we were told the kids Camp was fun. ABSOLUTLY NOT. This is not a camp, it's a day care, great for children 6 and under. My 9 year old was so bored and was told he couldn't play with certain things at certain times. His friend was also told he could not go swimming if he didn't eat the lunch even after his mother spoke to the woman running the care center, Chesley, stating he has eating issues and packed snacks. This BLEW MY MIND because there are children that has eating sensitivities and sensory issues! Chesley needs training on how to deal with children that has sensory issues to food. We grabbed our children out as fast as we could so they could actually enjoy their vacation. Our last day, I checked the bill to make sure everything was what I expected. I was charged twice with day care.... THATS A JOKE TO BEGIN WITH. Went and spoke to the manager at the front desk who knew all of our issues. Did not say a word to me, did not care about the issues we had- considering looking at all these 1-star reviews who had the SAME ISSUES. I really enjoy spending time at the Glad Springs resorts. This trip was with the wife who also enjoyed the stay. We love driving around looking at mountains and catching seeing a few deer along the way. One of the most peaceful places we have ever stay. One of these days, I am going to have an opportunity to stay and play golf at one of their spectacular golf cources I was however extremely disappointed that the breakfast provided with our stay was not in the Rotunda, where the last time I had a spectacular start to my days. Instead, they sent us across the street to the Small Talk Café, which is cute on the outside, but provides little more than breakfast sandwiches. They were even out of oatmeal at the time, so we just left and went to Tudors, which was basically the only other place we could find. You would do much better at any inexpensive chain hotel. We were initially very excited to find a lovely spot far away from the strip malls, fast food restaurants and noise of the interstate and interstate exchanges. The grounds are absolutely lovely. However, our expectations were quickly dashed upon entering our room. It had not been cleaned adequately as there was trash here and there; the bathroom sink that did not drain adequately. We were offered a new room, which was also poorly cleaned and whose air conditioners failed to work. At that point we gave up. It was 11:00pm. In short: they should take care of their rooms as well as they take care of the greens . We checked in on a Sunday for a King deluxe. Room was musty, carpet was dirty and bathroom only had one light working with 5 lights out on the light bar. Went to front desk and requested a new room. Told only Queens available. With no choice, we looked at the queen room. No smell but dirty carpet and a huge spot that looked like a dog had gone to bathroom and had not been cleaned well so we said no to room. After much "looking" a queen room was available, it was ok. Carpet was dirty but it was a room we could stay in. The first morning saw no housekeeping. The room was not made and we had no towels, had to look for them. The room had a safe but could not use because it was locked. There was a breakfast provided , it was ok, not good but not bad either. This is a place that has seen better days. As a hotel choice, this is strictly for the conferences and weddings crowd. The advertised 'four restaurants onsite' means a sports bar at the clubhouse (maybe a half-mile walk or drive, or they have onsite shuttles), a restaurant ditto, and a small family-style cafe (shorter walk) that closes at 5 and doesn't serve alcohol. The fourth "restaurant" -- the only one in the actual hotel -- is just a kitchenless serving area where they set up the kind of breakfast buffet typical of any moderate-price hotel chain. No service there other than that, which is sad, because if they'd had even a bar with dry snacks I might have been okay with it. No bar or lounge in the hotel itself, and the sports bar at the clubhouse is tired in the extreme. Seriously, the banquette we were led to had a badly-torn seat cushion. The layout is odd, with a fireplace stuck into a corner just off the kitchen. Menu is this weird combination of basic pub grub and high-price steak and seafood entrees which made sense when we realized those were also on the restaurant menu -- the two venues are right across the hall from one another, probably share a kitchen. Choices in the hotel snack shop were dismal. Literally candy, chips, and microwavable shelf-stable mac cheese. No room service. This is basically a country club community that has a fairly tired hotel and conference center onsite, and it's set up for that, not for the casual traveller looking for something other than the typical off-the-highway chain to make an overnight stop. We were wishing we had just gone for one of the chains at the interchange, as it would have been no worse a choice and would have saved a few miles of driving. Probably has better restaurants located closer. I feel like if you're looking for an inexpensive wedding or conference venue, this might be fine. The property is nice. There were a couple of quirks here and there. The room we stayed in was one of many condo type houses on the perimeter of the hotel. There are four units in each. I think we were the only occupants of our building. There's a front room with a table, desk, lamp, pull out couch and a television. The second room has a bed and television. Across from the bathroom is a microwave, refrigerator (which wasn't cold) and a coffee maker. I didn't find the couch bed appropriate for my kid much less an adult. I would've spent the extra money for an additional bed. There a plastic lawn chair on the porch for sitting outside. A window was broken, a screen had a whole in it, the wood around the window is rotting, the bathroom has a heat lamp which is nice but it was stuck on all night because maintenance doesn't answer calls after a certain hour. Even the main hall in the hotel had some areas that hadn't been completely painted and rotted wood on the porch. The entertainment area is nice with a lot of activities. It's like a small ymca.We just happens to be the when the whole town was there, so it was crowded. Unfortunately, we weren't able to enjoy the fire pit. The were so many kids around it. The activity hall was also very crowded. The pool area,tennis, movies, basketball, gameroom and bowling is of site. It's a bit of a drive away. Luckily we were able to shower there after swimming. I had to shower hop to find a soap dispenser that actually contained soap. The breakfast is very nice. There are many options, hot and cold. Apparently we stayed too long. Paying customers who are there for breakfast before hitting the green. They were complaining about being there with their golf groups because this green is not up to par with other greens they've visited. Our things were cleared from our table before I even stood up. Anyone who lives in the area can pay a membership fee to use the facilities and dine there also. There were school and church groups here during or stay. Sitting on the porch of the main building in rockers listening to music after breakfast was nice. The music choice was unexpected. It's a kind of acoustic twist on today's music. read more

And be very careful about the expense of activities, the wording and reminders misled you think it's free for overnight guests only , but the very small print $$ was hidden somewhere . You would be very surprised when reading bill statement. Good things: Buffet breakfast has egg , sausage, bacon , cereal, fruits. The outdoor pool is warm with guard 11-7, both are great. The indoor pool is In construction till one month later. And the shuttles are available, though no need to use it unless go to Leisure Center which is 1 mile away. Bad things: The smell inside when got in, the loud and not functioning air conditioning, the worn ugly yellow sofa bed hurting backbone, the self flushing loud toilet, only one sink for the long bathroom counter with slow water refusing go down, and the very old style need -2 hands -to get water handles. The cleaning lady not doing cleaning well inside the room, if in public restroom, you can see the black spots and dust behind the door... Money: Every thing and food is expensive, and the location is too far away to buy things outside. Easily can add another $ 150 for 2 meals for 3 adults and 2 kids for simple food, as A milk shake from pool cafe is $8, and a nothing special Apron in gift shop is $38! The Grill is not worthy For its price, quality and portion. For every charge, I don't feel comfortable they set credit card machine 1st screen for tips, you have to pay tips first then the payment. This is especially when you buy liquors. We played pingpong , and the table was in beat up condition, even not flat, and the manager? there blamed the guest not using it right!!!! We stayed in a Chestnut Hill cottage for two nights. Beyond being extremely outdated, my biggest concern was the amount of visible mold in every bathroom. In the half bath on the main floor there was mold oozing out from underneath the wallpaper around the sink. There was also an overwhelming mildew/mold smell. There was dust, dirt and crumbs on nearly every surface. The carpets were thin and covered in stains, the pullout couch looked and felt like it had been been salvaged from a frat house, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls in every room, the beds were loud and uncomfortable and the linens were threadbare. The heating unit in our bedroom sounded like someone was kicking a door down and woke me up every time it came on at night. From responses to other reviews it seems as if the resort is aware of the issues and promises updates. However, they continue to book these nearly uninhabitable cottages. Currently on property, at check-in we asked for a late checkout as we are playing golf our last morning. Per the front desk "the person who approves late checkouts is on vacation." Got to our "Manor House" and deeply dissatisfied with the amount paid for it in comparison to the amenities, decor and cleanliness. Frankly between the rotten wood and caulking in the bathroom a makeover is years past due. First morning woken up at 8am by maintenance wanting to check a thermostat because they "installed a new heat pump the day prior". Thanks but maybe put me in one of the other two empty buildings if you needed to do maintenance. Took my boys fishing and disappointed again. Boat house only open from 12-6 on Thursday through Saturday. For the money spent we should have just stayed at the Greenbrier. Hopefully the golf course doesn't disappoint . read more

We stayed two nights here recently during the week. The lady at check in was very friendly and informative. The first room we were given keys to had a leak in the bathroom ceiling. We told the clerk and she quickly issued us another room instead. The room was cozy and well decorated. The bathroom was nice and big and there was an additional sink and mirror outside of the bathroom. This made getting ready in the morning with several people occupying a room easier. My only complaint is the bed was like laying on a piece of plywood. It was terribly hard and uncomfortable. The property grounds were fantastic. You pay a daily $18.00 resort fee. We took a dip in the indoor pool but were disappointed in the freezing cold water. It should be heated. Also, there was a tremendous amount of sand and particles on the floor of the pool. It was obvious to me this pool does not get cleaned often. We bowled one night at the onsite bowling alley. That was a surprise to be able to do. You pay extra for this. For three people playing two games, we paid around $39.00. The property is surrounded by woods. We saw plenty of deer and a chipmunk while there. We found this place when we were traveling from Florida to Ohio for a funeral. It was a sad time in our life but we found it while searching hotels on the drive. Pricing was great and they had an on-site restaurant and activities for the kids. The staff was very friendly. On our drive back to Florida we decided to stop again. They had a bowling alley and game room which was a nice break for the kids. Our family cat got out the morning we were leaving and everyone in the staff helped us look. Multiple Staff drove around the property Many were going in basements and under porches to help find in 20 degree weather and snow. They sent out emails and asked guests. We found the cat and we will recommend this place over and over. Everyone was fabulous. A true gem. read more

I have stayed at this resort for the past 4 years with my family to ski at Winterplace, and I will always recommend it to those that are seeking a short trip to relax and ski. The staff is always accommodating, even with the most obscure of requests when they can make it happen. We brought a bottle of red wine that we were very excited to drink in the room, but we forgot to bring a bottle opener. We called the front desk and they gave us one for free in less than 5 minutes. The complimentary breakfast is always delicious and varied, and there is a free on-demand shuttle service to the Leisure Center. The Leisure Center has many activities for when you want to enjoy time with family and friends that include but are not limited to a movie theater, swimming pool, hot tub, bowling alley and escape room. The prices are reasonable for the fun experiences. There are also two restaurants, one reservation only and the other a sports bar, that my family frequents every year. Trying to find accommodations near Winterplace Ski Resort in Ghent WV can be a task. Most of the places are houses and 1-week condo rentals so the Resort at Glade Springs offers a regular hotel-esq way to getting a quick ski trip in. Located approximately 8 miles away from Winterplace in Daniel WV and not to far from Beckley, it was a decent place to stay for my short ski trip for 2016. What is great is that, if you can take time off during the week, the hotel offers a "ski package" that allows you to get lift tickets at a discounted rate included in the room. They have a shuttle that leaves every even hour from the hotel and picks up at Winterplace every odd hour at Winterplace - they let you carry equipment on the shuttle as well if you have rentals or have your own gear. It was a little tricky getting to the Glade Springs Resort to check in since it was snowing and the roads were a little covered, but we made it and turns out the resort does a good job of keeping their roads clear. Once you get to the entrance of Glade Springs, there's a guard shack since the area is a mix of various residential - single family homes, town homes, and the hotel itself so there can be a line to get into the entrance. After turning in, you have about a 2 mile drive up some hilly/curvy streets to get to the hotel itself. Staff was pretty friendly - the is a all you can eat breakfast buffet included in our room: eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, waffles (self-serve waffle maker during the weekdays), cereal bar, fruit, yogurt, various juices, coffee, and milk. Decent spread, but it was the same for two days (minus the self serve waffles) - it was a lot busier during the Saturday of our checkout so I totally get that they don't want a line for that machine. The hotel has a ton of amenities. Call up a shuttle service and you can be whisked away to what they deemed the "leisure center" - gym, spa, theater, pool, hot tub, sauna, and... wait for it... bowling alley. There's a small arcade for the kids as well as indoor tennis that they convert into laser tag so there is no shortage of activities here. Apparently in the summer, the resort hosts all kinds of conferences. There is even an equestrian center and golf course. The resort area has Bunkers, a casual/sport bar dining experience as well as a Fine Dining Restaurant if that is your cup of tea... both are located in the golf club house which is just a 10min walk from the hotel. Overall, it was good to find this place... I swear when we arrived it reminded me of the Shining (weather-wise) but it was a great place to stay and I would come back. read more

Horrible! Dont siste your money! On the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving my husband and I stayed at the resort so we could attend a funreal. We assumed because of the holiday, the prices would be a bit higher, and they were. We stayed in what was described as "the executive suits" and paid $139.00+tax=$167.00 per night. Upon entering our room, which consisted of a small living room, bathroom and bedroom, we were hit with the smell of Mold. In the "living room" the couch and chair were vinyl and either shredded in spots or flat out ripped at the seams. The bathroom tub faucet dripped constantly and there was mold all over the grouting. The bedroom was the nicest room, but the HVAC units in both the bedroom and living room we so loud you couldn't run them and watch TV without turning the TV up sky high. I understand that there are many amenities at the resort, which we didn't use and I'm sure they are wonderful but our stay was anything but satisfactory. I forgot my personal pillow when we left so I called the resort. They located it for me and said they would ship it back. UPS called me to confirm that I would be paying for the shipping, roughly $21.00. As i see it, Glade Springs resort should have paid that! the resort was so cool we were here or a concert at Virginia first we checked our room it was so nice and also we did not check the ski resort. then we headed to the activiy center which had theatere bowling basketball area and so much more! we went to arcade but it moved to bowling alley. we had perfect stay and then, we left it rained thank you glade springs for the stay! read more

West Virginia, you've taken such good care of me, I love you all, but they went ABOVE and BEYOND. I mean, this place is just mind blowing. THAT'S amaaazing, I think everybody needs a TV that big, I'm just sayin. Beautiful artwork on the walls.... and then, the you do this... you look out the window to GORGEOUS WEST....... What a surprise this resort is! Very reasonably priced for golf package with three good courses, great breakfast buffet, and one bedroom suite! Staff is very accommodating and golf was challenging and enjoyable! The Executive Suites could use a facelift but very comfortable and spacious! Loved the privacy! Dined at Bunkers twice with good food! The area is beautiful and some of the prettiest landscaping to be seen! Golf course service was the only service that was less than amazing! We would not hesitate to return!! read more
