We showed up on a weekend night, parking in an unassuming strip mall. The first thing that hits me is the aroma of roasting meat and the plume of smoke coming out of the chimney. Best of all, it smells like real meat, like in a legit kebap restaurant in Turkey. As soon as we head inside, we're greeted with quite the familiar site. Long tables of giant food platters, huge families talking loudly, the shop proprietor playing keyboard and singing, and lots of kids dancing in the middle of the restaurant. This is generally what our typical Turkish weddings look like, btw. We ordered a mixed platter of dips and bread to start, followed by a giant mixed grill, falafel platter, and my favourite, Iskender Kebap. Oh my lord, everything was ridiculously good, and most definitely authentic. Firstly, the eggplant was char-grilled, not roasted in a 400 degree oven; you can always tell the difference. The meat tasted like it was flown in from the motherland, the Pide bread was hot and fluffy, and even the yogurt was homemade. A couple of glasses of Raki, some great company, and some very authentic food left us stuffed and happy. We would definitely come back here again, now if only it wasn't located in the middle of nowhere...

There's literally anything to satisfy any palate from crispy chicken, fish, salads, haloumi, pork, beef, and the most fantastic chips with aioli sauce that I just can't resist whenever I go there. Vegetarians and gluten intolerants don't despair, Litse has menu options for you too, with an impressive amount of options being gluten free and healthy. You can also choose a cheese platter from 10am onwards which makes someone like me squeal in delight. Litse also has a range of wines for those enthusiasts, but also a kids menu for the little ones. There is something for everyone and it all has a touch of easy sophistication. You'll pay more for mains here - in excess of $20 and sometimes up to $30 - but for an indulgent meal, it's well worth it. Litse also has an all day breakfast menu with traditional bacon and eggs, omelette, and free range eggs on sourdough, just to name a few options. Sample a dessert and let them recommend a wine to complement it. At Litse, I'm almost certain you'll have the best possible experience. I love it here and I always have.

I mean if these people were convinced they were working on a Saturday, I was ready to be served. I ordered a flat white, an orange juice and traditional bacon and eggs with a side of mushrooms. Price wise, it was a little expensive but what they brought out was worth it. The bacon was crisp and not oily, eggs cooked to my request perfectly and the mushrooms hinted with garlic and seasoning a winner. The Coffee was made exactly how I wanted it and was a great drink to accompany my meal. I left Liste with a little less money than what I'd hoped to spend but the service and experience proved to be my reward.

The peppercorn sauce was also missing and we had varying portions of vegetables. I was given 6 potatoes + broccolini and beans while he received 4 potatoes with 3 beans (so minimal the amount was obvious). While annoying, we brushed that aside given the restaurant was extremely busy at the time. Come dessert and I was halfway through mine when I noticed something long and stringy hanging off my spoon. Initially I thought it was hair but it turned out to be a long strand of what I can only assume was cling wrap. We immediately informed our waitress and were offered another amid apologies to which I refused given I was feeling quite put off at this point. We ended up leaving immediately at this point and aside from an apology at the register, nothing else was offered. Will not be back and based on our experience, do not recommend at all.

It is located on the corner block the Portside Wharf complex and has a very welcoming vibe. The doors and windows are wide open providing its customers view of... err... the parking lot. But still, it contributes to its breezy and airy atmosphere. I have only come here for coffees and cake, but I'm told their mains are a treat too! The main meals they do is a combination of Mediterranean and European cuisine as well as Pub classics. From my experience their coffees are quite good but their cakes are just heaven. Growing up in St. Lucia, Amphora was my local restaurant and a favourite with my family. It's been…read morearound for years and is the closest thing we have to fine dining in an area heavily populated with students and cheap eats. It's situated on Hawken Drive near Ironside State School, away from the main area of Hawken Dr shops, in a small group of shops including a bottle shop which is handy given that Amphora is BYO. Amphora is a family-run Greek restaurant which you can count on to always get reasonably priced meals which are consistently good. The menu has had a few minor changes over the years but has generally stayed the same, with a few favourites even making a comeback. The must-order dish is the Mezze platter. Unless there are only a few of you and you want to try other menu items, get the large one ($35). It includes a large selection of delicious things including meatballs, dolmathes, calamari, whiting, grilled and raw vegetables, feta, spinach filo pastries and a selection of dips with amazing soft bread. Then there are a selection of entrees with the $16-18 range. My favourite is the Ouzo Prawns which comes with several large prawns lightly pan fried in a delicious tomato-based ouzo sauce, served on saffron rice and with feta ($18). It's delicious and a is a really generous serving for an entree. You can also get the lightly fried calamari from the mezze platter as a separate serve and it comes with the most delicious tomato, garlic and onion sauce ($16). Mains range from $30-35 and include a small selection of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes including my personal favourite, the half-duckling glazed with berry sauce and served on a sweet potato rosti and with sugar snap peas ($35). There are some sides available too but I've never ordered them. There is also always a specials board which regularly includes traditional Greek dishes such as moussaka. The dessert menu includes a trio of sorbets and traditional Greek sweets such as baklava and galaktoboureko and few others such as bread and butter pudding. I'm generally too full by then to contemplate dessert but luckily to sate my sweet tooth, the bill tends to come out with a few pieces of yummy Turkish delight. Amphora isn't super fancy but it does do great, delicious food and you will feel comfortable there. It's not a large restaurant and is busy all nights of the week so make sure you make a booking. However if you don't get a table and are craving their food, they do takeaway! Meals aren't particularly quick however so don't go there expecting a quick meal. And it can get noisy on busy nights - generally the weekend. They're also closed on Sunday and Monday nights and generally for all of January each year. However, this little things that you might find annoying are completely worth it - I never come away from Amphora dissatisfied!

We ordered it medium rare, but it came out medium. Also the sides were unevenly cooked, with one side more cooked than the other. Nonetheless the meat was extremely tender and the sauce was great. Pity attention to detail could have improved the dish. From last time we decided to avoid the desserts previously ordered but had little confidence. What a surprise. All the deserts were excellent. I may retry the previous deserts next time. This remains a highly recommended restaurant. Now if only they can dot the i and cross the tees.
