I've had 3 experiences here, and none of them were good. The first was a massage which I booked because I had a headache. The room where I received the massage was tiny. The whole place feels cramped and awkward like they turned someone's house into a spa. The massage itself was ok, but the demeanor of the masseuse left alot to be desired. No one likes a grump who doesn't smile. Especially for luxury services. The next time I came back was for a pedicure for myself and a friend. When I initially booked the appointments I was told they only had time for "classic" pedicures instead of deluxe which is what I wanted. After we received our pedicures I was charged the deluxe price. Not sure if what we actually received was classic or deluxe but it either way it was poor communication. Then last but not least, I booked a Brazilian wax and it was the worst wax I've ever had in my life. It was like this woman had never waxed anyone before. She was shaking and sweating and a complete nervous wreck. She dribbled hot wax all over me and I ended up with bruises and pain for several days right before my Florida vacation. She didn't charge me for the service however, it never should have happened. Totally bizarre how overhyped this place is. The are so many reasons I'll never go back. read more

Reception staff was very pleasant, which isn't always the case in some spas. I would definitely go back to see James! I am visiting the area for an extended time, and found The Retreat Spa online. I didn't know anything about the place but the reviews were outstanding so I gave it a shot. I scheduled a 60 minute scrub/wrap and a 90 minute customized massage. I don't think I can come up with enough nice words to say about Danielle and Erin. They were so professional, friendly and the service was simply phenomenal! I had an amazing experience and walked out of there completely refreshed and relaxed. Ahh this place could not do any wrong if they wanted to. I brought my gf here for a couples massage for her bday. Danielle and Heather worked every kink that we knew existed and didn't know existed out. The space was inviting upon entering and the rooms were relaxing with cute sliding barn doors. I should've gotten us 90 minutes instead of 60. Who am I kidding? I'd get a massage for 12 hours if I could. lol Prices were great and the young lady working at the front desk was very kind. Amazing, what more can I say? This is my 3rd massage at the Retreat. Today I had Jessica as my massage therapist for 30 minutes and I really wish I could've done an hour, but they didn't have availability. I'm a grad student who spends 21 hours per week in lecture and even more time sitting at home studying, staring down at my laptop screen, and my shoulders take a serious toll. Jessica got my tight shoulders SO well and I can't remember the last time they felt this relaxed. She was great at communicating too and seemed to intuitively know what I needed based on my shoulder concerns. From now on I'm going to book with her specifically! The facility is conveniently located in Cahaba Heights, right down from Pita Stop and across from Winn Dixie. The facilities are so clean, calming, and look nice. It always smells great inside. Everyone we came in contact with was very welcoming and all went out of their way to make sure we had a very relaxing day. The massage was perfect and very relaxing. Perfect experience, I took my wife here for a birthday massage after setting it up the previous day on the phone with Amy, I got to enjoy a complimentary loose leaf chai rose tea as I waited in the front lobby for her to get done. She had a wonderful massage and even got a gluten free snack from the bar! I had a pleasant time waiting there getting work done on my phone! Stacy, who I presumed to be a manager, made sure I was taken care of even though I was not technically using the spa facilities, and I consider that to be above and beyond service. This is a beautiful place! I went for a facial and massage and enjoyed my experience. The massage was 10/10, however I wasn't too impressed with the facial. This place is so cute and relaxing. I went in to get a bikini wax (first time waxing anything) and the staff was great. I called and got an apt right away, the lovely gal asked if I had a preference on esthetician and I told her no that I've actually never had this done before. When I got there I was greeted by name and asked if I wanted a water or tea. I met Anetta right away, she's so sweet! She talked me through the whole thing even had me laughing during the session. I can't say enough about The Retreat Day Spa. This was such a needed retreat for me, my daughter and sister. We purchased the 60 minute facial and the 60 minute massage. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. I'd say this is the BEST massage and facial I have every received. My masseuse was so professional and her technique was spot on. I was immediately transformed into a whole different realm within 10 minutes of massage. My hour massage was followed by an amazing 60 minute facial. The esthetician used such great technique and care with my skin. She assessed and used appropriate product according to my skin type. She never pushed any product. Our 2 hour retreat was followed by a lunch outside on the porch--weather warmed a bit and the sun felt great and was warm. It was absolutely wonderful and I am so thankful for all of The Retreat staff. They will soon be expanding not too far from their current location and I will be sure to "retreat" there in the near future! Luckily I have Christmas ideas for myself (LOL) if my husband were to ask--also I have a January birthday!! Win win!! Definitely treat yourself! I thoroughly enjoyed my massage today. I am a bit saddened to find out that they will be moving soon. We did a couple's massage, I had Brent. He was very knowledgeable and even added some tips on how to get some of my tightness out after my workouts. The room we were in had a divider that could be opened and close and the facility was quite clean. The only thing I could imagine could have been better would have been warm-up and post massage amenities such as a sauna, or wet facilities. I came here for a signature retreat facial and let me tell you, it has been the best facial I have ever gotten. And it's honestly all thanks to my esthetician Suzan H. I am so glad I was assigned her because she listened to my needs and went above and beyond for me! And she is so kind and knowledgeable. My skin afterwards was so clean feeling and a week later still glowing. The blemishes I had are gone and I haven't broken out either. Suzan also gave an amazing, relaxing massage after which was much needed. She deserves a raise! The salon itself is gorgeous and so clean. The rooms are nice, big, dark, calming and almost sound proof! I also like the waiting room where they have drinks and nuts. And thank you for being up to the times where you can make your appts online with the esthetician you want. This little spa is magic. Molly is a kind and bright soul, she makes you feel cared for and also naturally at ease. She gave me one of the best massages I have ever had, rubbed some salve on my sore neck, and walked me out into the bright day- leaving me on a wonderful note as I left the spa. I had been looking for a place like this- far too often paying too much for services elsewhere that were devoid of kindness and personal touch.
