My wife and 3 Labrador retrievers have never seen this golf course which I play about 3 times per month. So we came for Lupper (Lunch - Supper. A meal around 3pm. Also known as Linner: Lunch-Dinner). The dining patio that overlooks tee box #10 and putting green #18 is dog friendly. It's really quite scenic. So the food is typical pub fare. You know, hamburgers / french fries / grilled chicken / a few different salads. This is not high end foofy tweezer food. The portions are large enough for a big appetite, the ingredients are good quality. The preparation and plate presentation is fine. I think the most expensive meal on the menu costs $20. Coors pint on tap costs less than $6. We enjoyed the meal and the view. We lingered for 90 minutes to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Susan was our server. She's smart, authentic, friendly, helpful, prompt. She enhanced the happy experience. She told us that there's a new dinner BBQ menu offered on Friday - Saturday and Sunday evenings. Beautiful golf course! I played there yesterday for the first time. The pro shop staff member that checked me in was awesome. Very friendly and courteous. The course is Trent Jones Jr. designed and absolutely beautiful. There is a lot of water but it is not "in your face water". The one complaint I have is their parking lot design. Yesterday was busy, lots of cars. The parking lot is in sections. One way in and one way out. If the section is full you have to exit how you came. Not a big problem but annoying. read more

This is my 2nd time playing at the Ridge after several years. Overall the Course is very well maintained and in superb excellent condition!!! There was this really hot blonde girl (looked like a model) who was taking nonstop selfies and video's on hole #2 earlier today. Ended up waiting 15 plus minutes before I decided to go up and ask to play through. They told me they were taking pictures for the golf course. I mean ok, I don't mind waiting but next time to please let people know they can play through so there isn't a hold up! When I got to hole #9 they were still on hole #2. read more

This is our second time at the Ridge. The first time we left after 5 hours. Today 5+ hour round was painful. We had 3 groups of 5 we could see. The 5 sum in front of us also had a child playing on the green. What's next pets. BTW- they also let people play just the back nine. Once again, they allow groups of 5 on the weekends. worst customer service ever . Bar staff refused service. i tried calling for 15 minutes on hole 8 to get food to be berated by the ridge staff yelling at me for being the bad person that called during Easter, yet nobody told me that when they charged me 70 Dollars for a twilight round. Not even offered a bag a chips or a protein bar, just yelled at for being a pain during Easter Sunday. I get it , but I still paid full price, dropped a couple hundred in the pro shop before i played and nobody said anything about limited amenities when i paid, I have been playing the scores for over 20 years and this is very disappointing. It had been 10 years since I had played here. Didn't really remember the course all that well. Just knew it was hard and nice. Bingo! That was very accurate. Except my shots.......not so accurate. Lol It is so easy to lose balls on this course. But it is for sure nice. Greens were fast too. But I beat my buddy so I was pleased. We enjoyed our lunch afterwards in the restaurant. No bathroom in the "bridal suite"- you have to walk past the side of the bar that was open to the public/ lunch in your robe to a public bathroom. At least 5 golfers pulled on the door handles. Bar tender was not friendly and crabby. Grooms suite was so hot and no AC. No privacy at all. The coordinator did not make sure the beer promised in the service was provided. Public constantly trying to enter bridal, bridal area exposed to the public- we had to ask for them to relock a door. Screen did not provide enough privacy for people to get ready - it was like being in a fish bowl Included alcohol of champagne and beer had to be requested, the "coordinator" did not offer it at any point and only when asked and only 1 bottle out of 2 was provided. The coordinator promised to save horderves for the bridal party on the wedding day and when we asked, she responded with, "oh, really." She didn't even offer to ask the kitchen. Beautiful golf course with views that are so refreshing. The Ridge has a great friendly staff, nice bar and restaurant. This is a nice place to golf and get out of the valley. This would be a wonderful venue for a wedding or special event. They have two rooms, one holds 60 and the other is for larger groups. The golf store was very organized and fairly priced for your golfing needs. Get Out of the valley and head to the hills to do some golfing.... read more

I would argue this is the best golf course in the greater Sacramento Valley. The greens are impeccable and fast. Very well maintained and watered. The fairways and tee boxes get treated daily so you do not experience dry or divot filled shots. Each sand bunker (and I found most of them) has plenty of sand, no weed growth or drainage problems, and is raked daily. The layout is very diverse with plenty of elevation, water holes, and dogleg turns. I play the blue tees and I will tell you that It's a challenge for any level of player. Fees are reasonable, and the staff is friendly. Highly recommend this course for any golfer. read more

Played early this morning. The course is in the worst condition I can remember. I understand it's been difficult with all the hot weather we've been having, but to charge a Senior Rate of $65 bucks early on a Thursday morning given the poor course condition should be embarrassing to the staff. I love The Ridge. It's my home course since 1999. I Generally Go here pretty much 3 x a week to putt, chip, and hit range balls.Not much has changed since it opened. It's basically in the same shape as it always was literally nothing has changed.. Course loves the spring and early winter,but struggles in the heat based on the type of bent grass and rye used for the fairways. I highly recommend this place they seem to be charging more and more,yet the range balls are inconsistent, and 18.00 for a large is too much when 10 percent of the balls have no dimples and half the mats are caved in from heavy use. My recommendation is to buy better range balls and more durable mats the regulars deserve this. read more

Oversold on a daily basis with no marshals. Forever rounds. They routinely allow 5somes slowing rounds to a crawl. The course is in horrible shape. The young men is the golf shop are great. So disappointed. Went to the Ridge for a formal school event. We had the option of chicken or steak and I, not a huge fan of red meat, went with the chicken. I've had bad experiences with contaminated food in the past before so when I took my first bite of chicken and it seemed to be on the rare side, I stopped eating it immediately. My friend and I went home and she complained about a stomach ache all night but we didn't think too much of it. But the next night when I was vomiting with food poisoning it all made sense. At least 20 students, as well as myself, at my school are home with food poisoning and are continuing to leave throughout the day. Completely unacceptable. read more

Not too happy with The Ridge. I tried to use my 10 Round Punch Card today to take my sons golfing and was informed that there is apparently a new condition to using the card. (There are several conditions listed on the back.) The prepaid card is only good for the card holder's round of golf. You can't treat a friend or family and use your card. In addition to the printed conditions on the back of the card, this is another condition. I didn't think that was quite right. read more

We have been having lunch here for a few years about one Sunday a month. The service was always good and it was never crowded so it was nice and quiet. We came with our usual group of eight and were given a small menu with only a handful of items to choose from. We asked about this and were told that it was the menu now being given to parties of 8 or more as the kitchen could not cope with large parties who ordered different items. Reading the new "menu" one of our group with excellent eye sight was able to read the extremely small print at the bottom of the menu beneath the menu border stating that a 22% tip would be added for groups of 8 or more. In all the times we have been there, it has never been crowded to an extent that the servers could not cope. Our food always came out on time, regardless of what was ordered. The waiter should have brought that to our attention, as this was a new "rule" rather than it being hidden in the art work. While we were there today, there were two other tables with two people dining. We do not appreciate being limited to just a handful of items, or being told what tip we will be charged as this should be our decision, based on the service. There are many other restaurants in Auburn who are happy to accommodate our group with their regular menus and no added tip, so we will not be returning nor recommending the restaurant to friends. read more

Just like any course depending on the season the course can be in different conditions. Overall though I come here for the course. The food is good and the staff is very friendly Jake S. was extremely helpful and you could tell was happy to be there. Would be five stars but out of all the different courses around I found it to be slightly more expensive than what it is worth. Some parts of the course have been over run by Geese which I understand is part of nature, however it is hard to putt through poop... Will be back again and again but it is a little on the pricey side compared to similar courses. read more

3 star for the course Its a nice layout. But the pace is always hell. Theres never a marshall in sight to move along the hacks that decide the ridge would be a good place to ruin some fairways/greens. Seriously, if you cant hit a ball, quit after your sixth shot. Quit taking 9 practice swing to hit it another 30 yards, be ready when its your turn, and dont step in peoples lines on the green . Basically use some common sense and get your head out your ass (even if only one person takes heed to this advice, this post has been a success in my )The pro shop seems to never be on top of getting people off the first tee. This course has declined over the last 3 years. It used to be one of, if not the best in the area. But with golfs growth? They've somewhat digressed. Last 2 outings they have punched greens, no disclosure, no discounted rate. Your ball is basically a basketball. At $80+ a round, I expect a notification of non ideal playing conditions. read more

I trekked all the way up to Auburn to take photos of a golf tournament located here. One of my favorite things a golf course will let me do is actually drive my car on the paths through the course. I was stationed at a particular hole. They let me drive my giant chewy express van all the way out to the hole I was assigned to. I was so happy. I didn't have to load and unload my gear onto a golf cart then have someone else drive me out there. At the end I could just put my stuff back in my van and drive away. It was awesome. Their clubhouse is beautiful. There are beautiful views all around. My only complaint was that there wasn't a bathroom closely located to where I was stationed. Again, going back to my van, I really didn't have an issue because my van blocked anyone's view from, you know... Anyway, it was a great event. It was slightly windy. As golf courses do tend to be. Most of my props and back drops got ruined halfway through the event. Gorgeous venue, not sure about how awesome the course is but all the attendees seemed to be having a great time. Tucked in the Sierra foothills and only minutes off I-80, The Ridge is a solid, well-kept and quite value oriented golf course. We played here on our way back from a Reno golf weekend, and on a Tuesday late afternoon, it felt like we had the whole course to ourselves. And for a whopping 30 bucks with a cart, I just felt that I had found a new friend. The course plays quite tough as you have to deal with constant elevation changes and have to dodge multiple sand bunkers on every hole. I had spent more time in the sand on this particular day than I did the last time I went to Santa Cruz. First time experience, so it was expected, and future visits should command an easier thus familiar round. My only gripe was that on the 18th hole, from the tee box to the middle of the fairway, the left side stood this swampy marsh land. Not only did it pose as an obstacle (which I didn't mind) but in the hot sun, stunk like stagnant decaying mud. I've heard that finishing holes should be breathtaking, but this took my breath away in the sense that I held my breath until I distanced myself from this murky pit of nastiness. The smelliest 18th I've played to date. Cool thing is that your 1st beer back in the club house cost whatever you scored that day. I shot a 96, so my pint of Dos Equis with a squeeze o lime only cost .96 cents. On my next visit, I plan on paying way less than that. It's called pay back, baby. read more

We are actually getting married here this weekend so the wife-to-be and I decided to come and play the course before our wedding. I told her I was going to play the day of the wedding so I think this was her way of getting me to not do that. This was my first time playing at this course. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The course is in great shape and superbly maintained. I love how they incorporated nature (animals) into the course. The biggest draw backs is rattlesnakes and there's only one restroom out on the course. That still doesn't deter me from giving them 5 stars. Staff is super friendly and the food and drinks are great. I am looking forward to our wedding here and also coming back to play golf again. An update to my review. We finally had our wedding here and needless to say it was spectacular. Our wedding coordinator (Liz) was exceptional. From the moment we met with her to do the tasting to the wedding day itself Liz made sure it was a day we would never forget. She even allowed my new mother-in-law to come in and use their refrigerator to store our wedding cake. My wife showed up at 1130 and her bridal suite was ready for her with complimentary champagne. It was a HUGE room with a nice view of the course. Liz made sure she had ample of whatever she needed to make her big day go off without a hitch. I didn't show up until 2:30pm along with my groomsmen. Our suite, although smaller, was quite sufficient for our needs. We received a complimentary pitcher of beer and needless to say we did the guy thing and ordered two more. The course itself is stunning but the wedding venue that was set up for us was even more spectacular. Everyone was blown away. The area is well shaded and the walk ways were blocked off so no one golfing can interrupt. We were made to feel like people of importance. Liz helped to keep us on schedule so we can make it back to have dinner and begin the celebration. I wish I can give her a raise for such an awesome job well done! I wish I can Yelp 10 stars for The Ridge! I can't wait to go back and play. A tip to anyone thinking of using this venue for their wedding be like Nike and ... Just Do It! Also make sure you get the Halibut as one of your entrees. It is over the top delicious. read more

This is the most gorgeous course I have played! It has big fairways, lots of trees, lots of hazard area, and a few water hazards. I love the challenge. The course is very hilly and I recommend that you rent a cart. All of the staff are very friendly, and the buildings are beautiful too! I can't wait to get back here. read more

To the gentleman that lost his $250 laser in his golf cart, I respectfully disagree with you. I had the opposite experience. I left my wallet (with I.D., credit cards and several Ben Franklins) in a stall in the ladies room, but realized that I made this blunder after 9 holes and 2 hours later. MY OVERSIGHT for being so negligent. I wanted to treat my group to lunch at the turn, but couldn't find my wallet. My emotions were overcome with PANIC. I ran upstairs to the pro shop and asked if anybody found a wallet. The gentleman at the desk pointed to the office. Just at that moment a woman said she just found it. My appreciation and gratitude to Shannon (who is a staff member at the Grill Restaurant) for being so honest. SHANNON, YOU ROCK! Hats off to Sam too! He is the friendly staff member that graciously greets you when you arrive the Ridge. He is here, there and everywhere on the course. Like he says, "he's the Jack of all trade". My wedding reception was fabulous. Venue was beautiful, they were super accommodating and the food - people are STILL telling me how great it was. We serve played meals, chose Halibut and New York Steak. Tasted even better than our initial tastings before the wedding. They kept asking me if I was happy, anything they could do, did we need anything? Super service, and the room was divine. Perfect reception - I felt like a princess. Attended a baby shower event here about a week ago. Less than 24 hours after eating their food, I was in the emergency room with food poisoning. I ended up having to miss multiple days of work because I was so sick. After tests done by my doctor, turns out it was E. Coli. Multiple other people who attended the baby shower were also sick. After reading another review on Yelp, it looks like numerous other people became ill from the food as well that attended a totally separate event. This was one expensive mistake! I am posting this review on behalf of my whole family who went yesterday to the Ridge for Easter brunch. We are always happy customers but not this time. For $35/Head we got cold eggs Benedict with un-toasted muffins. A cheesy dollar tree table center piece. A flimsy menu displaying all the drinks we could purchase for extra. For $35/each we expected at least bottomless mimosas and warm food. It was such a messy dining room with an array of random foods that did not compliment each other. The servers were kind, but the atmosphere and food was that of a cheap cafeteria hall that one could spend $15 on, not $35! Very high price for a very poor, cold, tasteless, ugly delivery. I do not recommend this brunch venue for anyone who would like an enjoyable meal in a pleasant atmosphere. read more

Great service - the staff always is very friendly and helpful when I book tee times, get a token for the range, or needing refreshments out on the course. Also great food at the turn if your hungry! The Course - a great mix of long and short challenging holes. Some easy landing spots for drives, some big forgiving greens, as well as some tight areas you have to wrap the ball around to get on the green. I always have a fantastic time here and in the afternoon it's only $25! What a gorgeous golf course. Well maintained and typically sporting a fair setup. Too bad this was spoiled by what has become the bane of golf. That is, s l o w play. Sunday, 10/20 our two foursomes were behind a five-some of very very old men. Not all elderly people play slowly. This five-some not only played slowly (starting on the 11th hole we waited fifteen minutes just to tee off behind them while they had three to four holes clear ahead of them), they parked their golf carts within a couple of feet of the greens. I did not see a handicap flag. After the round, one of our guys approached the staff and asked why there were no marshals. As expected he was told they monitor the course using cameras/GPS etc. When asked why they didn't do something about the five-some backing up maybe ten other groups, they said they had approached the group two or three times and told them to speed things up. Obviously, they were ignored. My thinking is, if your pace of play policy has no teeth, let people know. That way we can decide if we want to spend 5+ hours waiting on every hole with no hope of moving forward. There are ways to handle slow groups. Why those weren't used is beyond me. read more

We hosted a Celebration of Life for my brother in their ballroom and it was perfect. Jen and the rest of the staff went above and beyond to ensure that the day went off without a hitch. They helped with all the details of planning and the execution was flawless. The day of the event, there were more than enough staff to help with last minute preparations and everyone was cheerful, friendly, helpful and accommodating. We had passed appetizers and everyone raved about them. Afterwards we had a sit down meal in the bar area and that was delicious too. From the facilities, to the staff to Jen who helped us with the planning, everything was top notch. I definitely recommend this event center. read more

I went here yesterday. Great day to go hit some balls , check things out and see something different. Beautiful course. Loved the driving range as it was very contoured . I was bound and determined to hit some of the targets. It was fun to be bundled up hitting balls and getting some sun on my cheeks. The chipping area is right there as you drive in. Great lay out. In checking out the course for later I noticed 5 sets of Tees. Thank you! Lots of water and bunkers. Can't wait to play here. The pro shop looks like something from the Golf Channel! I expected to see Finnitey sitting across from the fireplace . They are beautifully stocked with a interesting selection of clothing , equipment and accessories . Awesome. Totally friendly service too. The restaurant overlooks the course and another chipping and putting area. It's way worth the drive to Auburn. The restaurant is cozy inside and has a huge outdoor area as well. The menu looked so good, but I only had some delicious French fries and diet coke. Next time , some food. Happy Thanksgiving !! Auburn is easily the top area for golfing in the Sacramento region. I know, that is a bold statement but it hosts The Ridge, Auburn Valley, Black Oak, Darkhorse and the legendary Gator Creek. Just kidding about the last course but the First four are excellent. That doesn't even take into account Winchester right next door in Meadowview. The Ridge is a tough, challenging course that is best suited for intermediate and above golfer. Accuracy is a must and there is a lot of OB. The course plays 6734 from the tips. My favorite hole is 13, it is uphill and if you go right you are gone. The green is postage stamp size and balls do not hold. It was $50 on July 4th and was in great shape. If you can get here I would recommend it. read more
