This is a review of Shawn Kelly, PGA Professional. It should be noted that I drive 2+ hours each way for a 1 hour lesson with Shawn. There is no magic secret to good golf. Shawn will not tell you to do 1 certain flashy thing that makes covers of Golf Digest. Those are gimmicks. Shawn will develop your fundementals of grip, set up, allignment, and short game. He will teach you how to repeat those things so that you get consistent. This is an excellent golf course that is well designed and quite diverse. It also has a good restaurant but...... Do not leave anything in your cart as it may be stolen by staff. I'm positive I left my $250 laser in the cart after playing there a week ago. I called a day after playing and asked staff to locate it. The staff said they couldn't find it. Went for lunch today with family and had a delicious meal and our server was great. I'm trying to cut out sugar so I was a little disappointed that the menu did not specify the walnuts on the salad were candied. The guacamole was delicious! The reason we won't return is for the following reason. Fox News was on the television. Most public businesses have sports or other none highly bias channels that don't alienate half the population. I also would not want CNN or MSNBC. When I mentioned this to the server he was very nice and said he usually has sports on but that customers ask for Fox News. I'm sure some customers would like to watch porn but that is not socially expectable. I also realize that Placer County is made up of a majority of Republicans and this is golf course catering to a majority of white males so we won't return. read more

This is probably my favorite course in the Sacramento area..... The course has a great, scenic, challenging layout.... Its affordable.... They have a nice driving range... The food in the club house is tasty as well. I will be back for sure..... read more

I just had my wedding at The Ridge on 8/27/16. I couldn't be happier with this choice of venue. Not only was it significantly more reasonably priced, the food was absolutely delicious, the ceremony site was gorgeous, the reception room didn't disappoint, and the SERVICE was a dream. Liz, the coordinator, was an angel. From booking to our exit, she was sweet, helpful, assertive, and responsive. Even the kitchen staff were amazing. Not only would I highly recommend The Ridge as a wedding venue, I will definitely be back for food and drinks! Thank you all for making our wedding so memorable! read more

We just had our daughters wedding at the ridge. The wedding turned out perfect. Matt was very accommodating. The food was great and served hot! Everyone had a great time. The only things we had a problem with was they dressed the tables with skirts that were used for a wedding 3 days earlier and weren't cleaned first also the grooms dressing area is dark and kinda smelly like a basement. ( but ok for guys) They did fix the skirts to our liking before the reception. And the day was amazing. The outdoor area makes for great photos. We would have other events there in the future. read more

Had a 12:55 tee time, checked in at 12:10 in pro shop. They said the course was wide open and let me go 40 minutes early. Course is very challenging, great shape and the greens have a true roll to them. Seen lots of wildlife on the course. Booked my tee time online for $29 great deal. Staff is awesome!!! read more

my favorite course in the sacramento area. reasonably priced ($50), pretty quick pace of play and typically in excellent condition. the ridge is one of the only courses that i would actually think twice about becoming a member at. i play this course typically once or twice a month mixing in dark horse on the odd weekends. the ridge is extremely challenging and will literally eat you up if you make a plethora of mistakes. i have found myself in birdie territory just to have it blow up as a double bogie when its all said and done. im a 12 handicap but on this course, more of a 14-15. read more

Liz was amazing to work with. She went above and beyond what was expected to make our wedding perfect! The girls' dressing room was HUGE and very comfortable, the golf course amazingly kept, and reception hall had more than enough room for our over 150 guests. Probably 5 stars in the best part of the year. It's just HOT right now but the course was kept playable with lots of watering. Fun layout. When u hit it in the right place, it plays a bit easy, but if not, good luck. My three birdies were overwhelmed by a bunch of doubles, but it was fun regardless. read more

Played 18 holes yesterday. Did great on the back 9 but horrible on the front 9. The greens were lightning quick so I guess it took about 9 holes to finally get it right. Overall, the course was in very nice condition. Fairways were green, tee boxes were excellent condition and the greens were firm and clean. The Ridge has a lot of short par 4s (300-350) but just because they are short, doesn't mean they are easy. A lot are uphill with trees and fairway bunkers placed just right to make you think about your shot. Took about 4:15 to finish the round with group in front of us playing about the same speed as us. We only had to wait to hit a couple of times. Overall, I think The Ridge is a great public golf course. read more

This course is challenging and kicks my ass more often than I do it's. Good driving range and the course is usually in great shape.

We played a round today in bone-chilling fog. Lots of hills, lots of sand, and the fairways are relatively tight. The greens were surprisingly fast for all of the moisture in the air -- they were cut short for sure. I wasn't that impressed with the course -- it was relatively fair, but the constant elevation change and plenty of opportunities for sidehill lies began to grate; maybe I'm expressing sour grapes here since I had no game today. The course is kept in good shape, but the Auburn airport traffic pattern brings light aircraft over the course quite a bit (not as jarring as the 747 that buzzed by 1,000 feet off the deck at Cherry Island). The marshals kept everybody moving, and we played a 4:25 round, which is alright. This was a decent course, and the food at the grill beforehand was actually really tasty (I reviewed the grill separately) -- definitely NOT standard golf grill fare. I'd play here again at the right price. read more

This place is the best... not only the best course around, the bar and grill is great as well. Always great beers on tap and now a new Happy hour menu. I like they serve happy hour til 7pm so you don't have to rush. Get some practice in or play a round, then grab some food. You will not be disappointed. read more

This course has a great layout, an interesting hole variety, and the greens were in great shape. Course is definitely challenging but still fair--a recommended play in the foothill area. Also liked the driving range. Only negative is no GPS in the carts, you'll need a range finder or other device due to serious bunkering and carrys. read more

You simply cannot find a better golf value in the greater Sacramento area. The course is always very well maintained, beautiful, challenging and fair. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. Fun, affordable course with a very cool back 9. We played on a Friday afternoon for $25 with a cart. The first 6 holes are fairly dull, sort of flat or rolling hills, a pond nearby and some sand. But then the landscape changes to more dramatic hills and more challenging holes. Nice GPS in the carts. The three finishing holes all have water. Greens were in pretty good shape. I finally played this course for the first last month. This is my go to course when I'm in the area. This championship course, which used to hold an LPGA event, is a gem at a very reasonable price (played the course for $25, twilight rate through golfnow.com). The fairways and greens are in great shape (greens were being aerated but were definitely in good shape). The layout is challenging, every hole has a different look, however mis-hits are not so forgiving, lots of trees and weeds. Overall this is a great course, probably one of the better courses in the area, and would definitely recommend this track. read more

Played this course on a Thursday a few weeks ago. Found it to be an excellent golf course. We were greeted cheerfully. Set up in our carts quickly. Had time to hit and putt to warm up-----nice practice facility. We went off as a five some on time. Had a great pace and finished in under 4 1/2 hours. The course is challenging but fair. It was in excellent condition. Snake on the cart path scared my buddy to death as he came up on it quick. It was harmless. Paid $46 by reserving a week in advance. A great course to play on the way up to Reno. Cart girl made frequent visits which is always a good thing. read more

Working with Liz and having our wedding at The Ridge was such a great decision! She is so dedicated to making every detail work for you despite having so many brides to deal with. The Ridge was an absolutely beautiful location and the food was spectacular and yet it was more affordable than a lot of the other venues we saw. The ballroom is a really nice size (we had around 130 and it was very comfortable for tables, dance floor, etc.) and having the patio for people to hang out, for the bar, and for a photo booth worked out great. Really enjoyed the place! We played there 5 days in a row and were really treated like members. The course was in good conditions given their unusually wet winter. The staff was friendly and we had no trouble playing 27 holes a day. The practice facility was very acceptable tho it might be time to update some of those range balls. Thanks to the staff for welcoming us and making us feel at home. This course could be a bear to play if they revved up those greens to tournament speed with the slopes. Be ware of getting your ball above the hole. You might regret it and have a come back putt longer than your first read more

This course is a bargain. Very challenging course, although not very long unless you are playing from the blues. The par 3's here will test your accuracy and the shortest one from the blues is a bit over 150 yards. Great elevation changes, manicured greens, soft bunkers and excellent service. The food is reasonable and the prices are very inexpensive for as nice as this course is. My only complaint here is that you can't get food during a round. The beverage cart is very attentive, but they don't serve sandwiches or hot dogs and you end up living off of a candy bar and soda to make it through the day. Eat before or after and you are fine. read more

I really enjoyed this course. It was in great condition and we had a beautiful day. It is challenging and fair. We encountered some slow play on the back 9 which throws my game off because we are waiting so much, a ranger speeding up tat would of been helpful. The greens were very unpredictable, some were very fast and some were slower. Beautiful course, I will be back. read more

This is my home course and my only gripe is the greens their bumpy and not maintained very well. The course could use a few add ons some landscaping would be nice a lot of the holes have overgrown bushes adding a visual nuisance to the tee shots on a few holes. The 2 and 9th hole needs to be overhauled as the middle ravine adds an unfair obstacle and the fairways both slope towards the giant ravine which is a hazard. Overall it's fun beautiful surroundings which is always a plus but if you have a beautiful course and bad greens thats a problem but on a positive note they just added a top of the notch gps system. I play here sometimes 2 times a week I know this course inside and out and the only issue is their greens i think their usga but not really sure. read more

I just finished 9 holes this morning and the course is in great shape. It loses a star or 2 because I was supposed to play 18 but because it took 2:45 to play 9 on a Wednesday morning it's a bit ridiculous. The really lame thing was that there was no reason for it. I stood on the 6th green after putting out and noticed there was nobody on the tee behind us, nobody on the 5th hole, and nobody on the 4th hole. I don't understand why they didn't spread the tee times out so we weren't waiting on every shot. I never got in a rhythm and bailed after posting a really terrible score because of it. Good thing I had a coupon so it didn't cost me much to play or I would have been even more upset. read more

I had my wedding at The Ridge this past weekend, on Saturday November 19th, and it turned out AMAZING! The ceremony was supposed to be outside, but the weather took over and the ceremony had to be moved inside. I was so worried, but Liz took over, and did a fabulous job with creating the ceremony I imagined! Everyone said what a beautiful ceremony/reception it was, and how AMAZING the food was. I would HIGHLY recommend The Ridge for any wedding, and thank you to Liz who was wonderful through the whole process, and brought my stress level about the weather complete down.
