Back on The Roasterie train! It's a nice walk for my daughters and I on the weekend, and lately we've been loving the fact that they carry Ibis Bakery goodies. The drink of the fall for me has been this Sunrise Espresso Tonic (candied orange syrup, tonic water, espresso) which is so unlike anything I normally get. Thanks to fellow Yelper Sarah G. for this tip! Like all coffee shops, somehow their in-store drinks now cost what lunch used to a few years ago, so it's a sometimes treat for sure. However I do buy the gigantic bag of Roasterie beans at CostCo, so in some ways I'm always running on Roasterie. For the kids, their doughnuts have been a hit and I mean, they are really good. Nice and light, flavorful. This isn't one of those preservative-packed junk donuts like at chain spots, it's legit. At this price, I will only visit occasionally. Also, the bags of coffee beans are several dollars more than the grocery store, so if you are buying beans, go to your local grocery store instead. I live within walking distance of this location and I have always have a great experience. I will say this location is ALWAYS busy! Doesn't matter what time of day or what time of year, go in knowing that it is busy! The drinks are always delicious and if they have them in stalk, I usually get the chorizo breakfast burrito. When the weather is nice, I love sitting outside on the patio. If you are just grabbing and going, I definitely recommend downloading their app and ordering ahead of time. If you are in a rush and order in person, be patient with the staff. They get busy and they can only make the drinks so fast. I always get so frustrated when customers order and then get upset their drink isn't instantly done. So if you are needing a quick cup to go, order ahead of time! Caffeine Queen- The Roasterie Cafe Overall, I hate to say it but this particular Roasterie location is not my Top of KC's local coffee house's. Now, it's not the product that falters however, it is the atmosphere of this particular Brookside location that makes me roll my eyes...or get side-eyed by someone. Coffee Shops are supposed to be ambient, yes but, the coffee house aesthetic can still be inviting and approachable. This Roasterie Cafe misses the make on both the latter with either the atmosphere being WAY too quiet to even hold a conversation over a cupper or packed with kids in variations of plaid all chatting and crowding the counter. Neither are ideal if you enjoy meeting colleagues, friends or new acquaintances at local coffee spots for (lowered voiced) chats and creamy chais. The last time I went to this Roisterie I did not veer, sticking with my tried and true oat milk chai however, my caffeine queen partner in crime went for the exotic new local honey infused latte. I wanted to update my review as I stopped in for the first time in over a year and I realized that the Roasterie now partners with Ibis to provide baked goods. This has taken the Roasterie to a whole new level! I always thought their baked goods were fine but nothing to write home about. Having spent almost 40 years in and around the US Army (and most of the 1980's in Central and South America where some of the finest beans are grown), I have learned that you do not have to "burn" the beans during roasting (like a lot of national and local roasters) - and that is one of the main reasons I like The Roasterie. But I digress. The Roasterie Cafe just fits in with the rest of Brookside. Yes, parking can sometimes be at a premium, but you should not have to walk too far. Free WiFi, outdoor seating for full enjoyment of your brew, and goods from their own bakery make this locally owned cafe perfect for the neighborhood. Service is always fast and friendly, with new and special blends always at the forefront. The Roasterie coffee is billed as "Air Roasted" - that means that the beans are roasted in an "air" roaster (a concept similar to the air poppers for popcorn) so that you do not have to deal with that "burnt" harshness you find in the the big guys place (and even some other local roasters). Coffee can be strong without the harsh taste some folks associate with strong coffee. Part of their success is their business model. The staff at this location is always friendly and happy, the atmosphere is lively and relaxing, and the drinks have great flavor. I recently tried their Rosemary and Vanilla latte and it was absolutely fantastic. Both hot and rich, the blend of rosemary with vanilla makes for a wonderful pick me up. We stumbled upon The Roasterie at the most perfect time. We needed some caffeine to combat the food coma we were beginning to feel after a barbecue lunch, chocolates, and frozen custard.
