I loved this tour! We were a little confused at first as far as how to checkin, we booked online and didn't receive and email confirmation and missed the sign that said to check in with the barista but once we figured it out the barista had our names as preregistered and showed us where to get started. My mom and I went on a Monday morning and it happened to just be the two of us so it was like a nice private tour! We learned so much about the history of the Roasterie and a lot about coffee and the roasting process in general. Our tour guide was incredibly friendly and so knowledgeable on all things about the company, facility, production process, and brewing processes. It started with a video highlighting the business' history and their roasting process, we then went into the factory and watched as they actively roasted, blended, packaged, and labeled their coffee. I seriously learned so much and it smelled great! It ended with tastings of their cold brews and our guide demonstrated grinding beans and brewing coffee through a French press and pour over style that we also go to try. Since our tour was just two people, I imagine the tasting process can be more difficult if you're waiting for several people to watch and try the brews. But if you are in a big group and uninterested in waiting for tastings, you get a discount on drinks in the cafe if you've been on a tour. Overall we loved the experience and feel lucky it was just us on the small tour.

5 stars for the coffee.... 2 stars for the tour and 1 star for what appears to have started as one of those businesses started by a man with the noblest of reasons and devolved into being just about the money....not that I can blame him. Who doesn't want to get rich? Take a look at the prices in the souvenir area and you'll see what I mean. The facility just isn't big enough or interesting enough to waste your time on a tour. They should just leave the informational video playing on a loop for anyone interested in the story and skip the tour.

This coffee lover was pleasantly surprised by the Roastrie Coffee Company and staff. We were from out of town and heard they offered a free facility tour. Who can turn down a free tour with coffee involved? Not me! The tour is moderated by a tour guide. You can find the tour times on their website and they welcome walk-ins or reservations. The tour started with a brief documentary of the company history which was very informative. After that we put on the infamous hair net and proceeded to the facility. We were able to view the packaging process for their coffee which is very unique. I don't want to give away all their secrets. They have coffee from all over the world and of course it is a local company. We ended the tour with a quick tasting. This part really was the best. We tried two types of coffee via two different methods- drip and press. The drip method was my favorite. Even better they sell coffee makers from a press, drip, or grinder right there. If you attend the tour you receive a discount on immediately buying products or coffee from the cafe. Awesome experience!

It's not like Roasterie needed to improve my opinion of it. I've always loved their coffee and the fact that they're such a good corporate citizen. Today's tour and cupping just solidified their position on my list of favorite Kansas City companies. First, the building is chic and beautiful; I would definitely consider it if I needed an event space. The two coffees we tasted and the iced Mocha Motion I went home with were both delicious. It was the tour, though, that made it worth interrupting a Lazy Sunday On The Couch. Gage (hope I spelled his name right) was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and refreshingly free of cheesy tour-guide humor. He explained the production process completely from harvest to finished product, and there wasn't a single question he didn't know the answer to. Along the way and during the tasting afterward, he and barista August offered lots of tips on how to get the most out of their wonderful beans. I think what impressed me most is that a lot of what they roast is done to order and shipped out that day, so you know your coffee hasn't been sitting in a warehouse somewhere for weeks. The whole affair far exceeded the one-hour allotment Adam put on the event, and every minute was worth it. They even kept the retail counter open past closing time so we could buy drinks and other stuff. This tour totally deserves a place on the list of Great Free Things To Do In Kansas City!

    Very informative, interesting tour.

My husband and I came for the free tour, I've been begging him to go ever since we toured Boulevard (just down the street, you could do them both in the same day). Before you go, I recommend making a reservation online. They don't always fill up, but they are limited spaces and you'd hate to show up and not get in. I really enjoyed the tour, the facility isn't huge, but they provide a ton of really interesting information about their history, their brand, and coffee in general. It starts with a short video and then they chose 5 people to demonstrate how to do a proper tasting. Here's where I was bummed, not everyone got to taste the coffee. Yes I know the tasting room was small, but they could have made it work at some point during the tour. The tour guide talked up their coffee of the week and it would have been great to try it. I'm sure they'd sell more if they offered tastings. The tour takes you through the large warehouse back room where they store their beans and roast them. It was really neat to see and hear the process, makes you appreciate your cup of joe even more. I recommend this to locals and visitors. It was a fun thing to do and really interesting.

The tour is a nice way to spend a Saturday morning. Arrive early for a coffee then spend about an hour touring the facility and learning about the coffee roasting business. Be sure to volunteer if you want to test your aptitude at becoming a pro coffee taster. The tour guide will explain the tasting aka "cupping" process while volunteers try e to follow his lead. The remainder of the tour explains the processes involved in selection of beans, transportation, warehousing, roasting and packaging. The tour guide that we had was quite funny and he made the tour quite enjoyable... The tour also mentions the socially responsible manner in which the Roasterie conducts business without lecturing. The Roasterie is about fair trade for farmers, philanthropic investment in coffee farming communities and environmentally friendly policies here in Kansas City. The expanded facility will be available by Fall 2012, be sure to stop by and check it out.

I can't stress how much fun it was to see the inner workings of the Roasterie Coffee empire during their tour of the roasting facility. The initial video presentation sits the tone for the entire tour. The history behind the Roasterie is inspiring and a great story. The tour guide was very personable and quite funny. The facility itself is quite unique. It will remind you of a miniature manufacturing facility. I learned a ton from the tour about the whole coffee manufacturing process. The Roasterie culture seems genuine and enthusiastic. These guys (roasters) work their butts off to produce a high quality product that Kansas City is lucky to have. The tour lasted less than an hour (I think) and definitely worth a Saturday or Sunday morning trip.

We did cupping with Vincent while visiting. We learned about coffee roasting a ton of fun! Do make reservations.

Fascinating place. Learned all about the origins of coffee beans, learned about the varities, air roasting, and making a perfect cup of coffee.

Must stop for any coffee geek.

You have to go here! It's a little out of the way so you'd never walk past it but these people are passionate about coffee! From nitro cold brew on DRAFT to the coffee geek worthy collection of brewing equipment, if you have a coffee lover in your party this place is a necessary detour.

The coffees are the best around. I got the Brookside Bob that was chocolate, mint and expresso. Normally when I've been here the staff is energetic and outstanding. Unfortunately today that was not the case. Maybe it was after Christmas fatigue but I was glad I was not bringing company as The cashier was extremely unfriendly. She was acting like waiting on was a bother. I deducted 1 star for that as it really impacted our experience.
