We were at a conference in Uptown Station so this restaurant was very convenient for lunch. We love Greek food and enjoyed the gyros, spinach pie and stuffed grape leaves. We ordered delivery from The Rock through Delivery.com. The gyros were passable, the spinach pie was inedible and the Greek salad came undressed. (The menu clearly states that the salad comes with a side of dressing.). We called Delivery.com for a refund for the salad. (The Rock refuses to deal directly with their delivery clients.) When we called Delivery.com for a refund of the $6.29 for undressed romaine leaves, they offered a $5 credit toward our next Delivery.com order because we were "unsatisfied". They said the undressed salad was our error because we had not selected a dressing on line. In fact, selecting a dressing was not an option on the online site...and, as previously stated, the online description says Greek dressing would be provided on the side. I had to argue with the Delivery.com person to get partial $5 refund applied back to my credit card, not as a credit, because my first experience with Delivery.com (and The Rock) will be my last. ( Phone Rep had to consult with his "supervisor" over $5). Lol. I don't mind paying for what's promised, regardless of quality. When a customer is not refunded a full amount when there is an error, is inexcusable. As a side note, 2 gyros, small salad without dressing and truly pathetic $2 spinach pies came to $35. Stopped by while in town for a university event. My wife and I both ordered the chicken gyros. Well, it's not chicken gyros. What we received was a sliced, grilled chicken breast on a pita. That's not a chicken gyros where we come from (Chicago area). The tatziki sauce was watery. Although we didn't get what we expected, we were hungry and the sandwich was actually pretty good. The sauce was a downer. One bonus is that they have a Pepsi fountain machine with make-your-own flavor add-ins. Next time I would order one of the hummus plates. read more

Go-to restaurant in uptown Normal. Guaranteed good food with a reasonable price. We had all kinds of food from there, from gyro to hummus, super philly cheese steak to gyro hamburger, sweet corn nuggets to super gyro. I'd recommend their signature gyro with fries. They can't go wrong. However, I wouldn't recommend super gyro. To us, there isn't more meat and the black olives is a off. Also, the manager/or owner? Is very nice and friendly! We stopped at the Rock in the middle of an afternoon on a roadtrip across several states. The menu in this downtown restaurant offers an atmosphere that suits students, travelers, and working professionals. We ordered the gyro salad with ziki sauce and falafel salad with tahini sauce. Both were quite tasty. We ordered baklava too. It was just enough for both of us to have a taste. The layers were perfectly flaky and had just the right amount of sweetness. If I lived and worked nearby, I would put this restaurant on my rotation for lunch with pals or for an afternoon coffee break with baklava. This is a trendy college town restaurant. The gyros and burgers are good, but not unique. The falafel is good but the menu is unclear if its a falafel pita or patties. They have a loyal following and I enjoy going there from time to time. The pitas are not warmed on the Gyro sandwich!! Crazy huh? We got a gyro with french fries, a drink, and a greek salad with feta. We travel for work and have eaten at many many Greek restaurants all over the country. We were extremely disappointed with the food considering how many positive reviews there are. The Greek salad was the worst I've ever had. They don't even use Greek dressing. It tasted like Wishbone Italian and gave me a stomach ache. The olives where obviously canned slices and were disgusting (I love olives! ). The tzatziki on the gyro was super disappointing, fries mediocre, and Brisk tea was the only tea option (no brewed tea) gross! Warning to anyone travelling through looking for good Greek. I ate here a couple years ago and remember the food being decent. I returned to eat here for lunch as it was close to the conference I was attending. The food was decent as I remember it. But the sewer gas smell from the bathroom was horrendous, almost nauseating. When I first went in the restaurant, I thought it was the people in front of me in line. Turns out it was the bathroom. I went to use the washroom and the smell in there was nauseating and the floors were disgustingly sticky. There's no way the employees didn't know. That should have been priority number 1 to get someone in there to fix the plumbing issue and sanitize the bathroom to a relatively reasonable state. The lack of attention to detail carried on to the pop machine which was serving up flat pop. If the bathroom was that disgusting, it's probably better that I don't know what the kitchen looked like. Either there is no manager or they don't seem to care. I probably won't return. read more

Had the Gyro "special"...but nothing was special about it! Paid $10 after taxes and it was not worth it was not worth it. Usually I leave if I don't see the Gyro on the shank up front, but picture made meat look authentic. It was not! Meat tasted frozen and there was not much of it at all. Fries tasted ok but did not compliment a Gyro. I believe the only reason this place is still open is because it's in a college town. read more

Food was burnt, very pricey for what you get. Placed an order for a child's meal and other food. Hot dog was burnt black and crusty. Kids don't like burnt food. My food was burnt as well. Ordered a drink they charged me for a large drink but gave me a small one. I looked at my receipt, nickel and dimed for everything. The best thing was got a discount of .57 for paying cash. Took it back because they gave a convenience tax of 3%. When I asked about it some person who didn't know how to treat customers was rude and nasty told me how expensive his cash register was and said I was wrong. Treated me as if I was not smart and said I didn't know how to do simple math. Well I do know how to add and subtract they are adding fees to everyone's bill and if you just pay and don't look you will be over charged. The man was an owner or manager and said the food was fine. I don't know about anyone else but I don't like burnt food or serve it to my family. I don't expect to pay for bad food or bad customer service. This was the 2nd time I went there and the 2nd time I have had bad food . I like to give a place a chance but will never go back. Bad food , bad customer service. Looking for a nice place to visit chow town and came across The Rock and it was amazing. Had the Gyro platter with fries and asked for extra Tzatziki sauce and a piece of Baklava. Very reasonable at $12. No charge for extra sauce, small piece of Baklava. Sandwich was Hot Hot had to wait for it to cool before I could hold it, fries crispy and delicious. Baklava was absolutely brilliant!!! Small but perfect!!! Must say I'm a fan!!! read more

I grew up in Champaign and went to Zorba's regularly. Absolutely nothing I've had since can hold a candle to that venerable institution. The Rock really tries, however, and for the most part succeeds. The fries are fresh and the gyros are not dry or greasy (a hard balance to achieve it seems). I've been coming to The Rock for years, an original customer from his first location. By far, the BEST gyro in town. Get the special with fries and a drink for around 10 bucks for lunch. The gyro is hot and fresh, the pita is fresh and soft, and the cucumber sauce ties it all together. They have a great burger too, as well as several other solid menu choices. But you're in the best gyro place in town, why would you get anything else!? If you've never had gyro before, crawl out from under your rock and give it a shot. THIS place should be your first gyro. Nice old building in downtown Normal, across from the post office. Parking can be a challenge, as Uptown usually is, but it's worth the hike from the inconveniently located parking garage. I just moved down to Normal and I've tried a few restaurants but The Rock Restaurant stands out. It has a quiet and relaxed atmosphere with a corner filled with books for kids (I find this adorable). I'm not a huge fan of humus BUT this humid was spectacular! I can't wait to come back! read more

Very nice meal with the family of 5 at The Rock! Total was about $40. The gyros were good, fries excellent, the grape leaves were from the van but still great quality. The garlic chicken was flavorful but I'd stick to their original. We also had the baklava which was good but could really use more of the honey syrup. I'd recommend it and would go again but would stick to the original gyro and would try the hummus. read more

Obviously they know how to fry things so they've got things down to a science but nothing is authentic here but they are geared to feed college students and a college town. Disappointed by my falafel, kinda dry on the inside, sure it was frozen. Wrap was kind of crumbly which tells me is wasn't fresh or it was poor quality. Still their service was very good. Everyone is very pleasant and well trained so theres something to be said for that. This is my go-to lunch! I love love love this place. The staff are always friendly and I love to see the owners actually working the line instead of just locking themselves in an office. I love their pita bread, it's simply wonderful! Light and fluffy and so good with chicken. I generally get the Chicken Pita special. Their fries are yummy as well. It's fine. The falafel is dry. Tiramisu and grape leaves are good. Falafel is really dry. I got lunch here everyday for a while and I guess I got used to how bad the falafel is. My husband is one of the original regulars here from the first location off of Main St. I'd never enjoyed a gyro until I ate here! The super gyros (has feta, olives and extra meat) are amazing. The garlic chicken and chicken gyros are also fabulous. You have to try their hummus and pita - SO FRESH! And I don't know what they do to their fries but they are second to none. Best part? I have to admit that my 5 stars could be biased because these guys are so nice and I really want this place to do well. That said though, it's clear from the other reviews that I'm not an outlier to suggest that The Rock has some of the best grill food in town. If you're looking to save a little coin, check out their daily specials. I really like the gyro and the burger is (like Brandon C. said) one of the best in town. If you're looking for a hot mess of BBQ deliciousness, try The Challenger. It's diced chicken on a pita with grilled onions, green peppers, mushrooms, etc. all smothered with bbq sauce and some shredded cheese. Good people and good food. read more
