He was so passionate about everything he spoke about- from the floors to the walls, to the treatment of gladiators, story of Niro, all the history you can imagine with such detail. This company has not failed me for walking tours I booked in Venetian and Rome. HOWEVER, I was a but disappointed in the Rome Food Tour. The consisted of various stops in different places to sample food and drink. We started at a cheese shop where our group of 9 visitors were wisked to the back to sample cheeses. Only thing was there was no place to sit and were given very small portions and presentation was subpar. Our prosecco was served on a plastic cup. At the various other places, we were crowded and were not able to sit. The only good part was the main meal where we were able to sit and enjoy good appetizers and mediocre meal of pastas. Value wise, save your money and eat at a nice restaurant. Disappointed but did meet nice people. Just want to point out that this opinion is shared by myself and my party of 2 others on this tour. Again,my opinion is a pass on this food tour; but this outfit does outdo itself on historical tours. Sorry Roman Guy, but foodie your needs improvement. read more

Wife and I did the Vatican Museum/St Peter's Basilica/Sistine Chapels tour. Was great to skip the huuuuuge line. Tour was ok, guide was alright. Very knowledgeable of the area and history. Tour went from 2:30-5:30. Only thing I wish we had done was stop by the souvenir shop really quick before entering the Basilica because the shop closed at 6 pm, or at least if we were told that the closing time. read more

Excellent customer service from this business! Purchased skip the line tickets for the Vatican (no tour). I was running a bit late to meet up with the tour representative to pick up my tickets the day of my visit and unfortunately they had already gone in. Not sure how often they will do this, but customer service was able to contact their rep inside who was very kind to meet up with me to pass on my tickets. Grazie! read more

I took 2 separate tours with The Roman Guy while I was in Rome. Both times, the tour guides were very easy to find and organized. The headsets worked great on both tours and were very comfortable which is nice as other tours I took had very uncomfortable ear pieces. My first tour was September 14th with Manola (I think that was her name) for the Underground tour of the Colosseum. She was wonderful and got us to each location quickly and gave us plenty of time to look around as she explained things. My second tour was Sept 15th with Ana for the privileged entrance to the Vatican. Ana was great at getting us through the crowds and making sure we saw all of the highlights. She also gave us great recommendations for lunch after the tour. I would use The Roman Guy again if I am ever back in Italy. They were worth every penny! read more

Took my money and cancelled the tour! Been waiting over 1 month for refund! In May 2022, I paid $264.90 for a colosseum underground tour for 2 ppl with the Roman Guy (aka the Tour Guy) scheduled for October. In September, they said they were unable to secure underground tickets for that day and offered a refund or a different tour that did not include the underground. It was our only day in Rome and our #1 plan, so I opted for the refund. I then scrambled but found a different company with underground tix for the same day, but at a significantly higher price. During our tour, I saw representatives from the Tour Guy there, so they obviously got tickets but wanted to sell them for a premium. I then followed up on my refund, and was given some excuse about the transaction being closed and not being able to refund my credit card. They offered to send me the money via PayPal, which they did, BUT they did it in a way that paypal charged me a $15 fee, and then they REVERSED the charge the same day without my consent so that they got the full amount back and my Pay Pal account is now negative $15. It has been over a month since I first requested the refund. I'm not having to spend hours on the phone trying to dispute the charge with PayPal and Chase. The only other company that cancelled one of our tours on our trip refunded the money that same day. This is absurd, fraudulent business practices! Pick a different company!!!! read more

I rarely leave negative reviews but this situation 100% warrants a review if anything to make sure other tourists know the kind of company they are giving their business to. I cancelled my trip due to travel restriction at the beginning of March and they followed with an email saying that my cancellation was accepted and that they would process my refund in 30 days. Also, VERY IMPORTANT is that they website states that they will issue refunds as long as you cancel 24 hours in advance of the tour. So, this is false advertisement and although, we have all been economically hit due to COVID this does not give them the right to change their cancellation policy after you have paid. It shows this company is a joke when they offer a refund, their policy states you will be given a refund but then they decide not to give you one. While I understand this industry has been hit, so has many others and while traveling was a good idea before it might not be now considering the rates of unemployment. read more

We booked foodie tour with The Roman Guy few months in advance, few days before coming to Rome, there were thunderstorms in the forecast on the day of the tour. I emailed to reschedule and got quick response from rep who was located in Pennsylvania and was able to reschedule for the following day. It was easy to find meeting point, however just a suggestion to specify which fountain you are waiting for us at, as there are 2 identical fountains on Piazza Farnese :) but we were able to meet our guide Laura and second couple with no problem. Laura is native to the area and clearly has passion for local food and very social and funny. It was very easy to communicate with her through out the night. I was not expecting so much food and wine from this experience. We started at local shop (deli like) and tried selection of local organic meat and cheese accompanied by wine. Best mozzarella (buffalo) I ever had in my life!!! After that we went to place specializing in fried cod and also had more wine :) we tried local place Caramelle where we got served bruschetta and prosciutto with bread.... and more wine. After that local pizza place with amazing pizza selection, we tried 3 types, then tattoria Casa Mia which served 2 appetizers and 2 types of pasta and of course more wine. At the end we got a taste of local organic gelato. All places Laura took us to were truly local places with no tourists. Food was delicious and Laura was an amazing and passionate tour guide. I would highly recommend this tour if it's your first time in Rome. We will be eating at these places in the next few days of our vacation for sure!!! read more

We did the Underground VIP Colosseum tour with the Palatine Hill and Roman Forum. It was such an amazing and private tour with only 12 of us. Fabi was our tour guide and she was wonderful. Bery knowledgable and witty! We had originally been scheduled for the morning tour and were unable to make it. They were able to accommodate us and put us on the afternoon tour. I cannot express enough how wonderful the tour was! Being able to go onto the arena, dungeons and third tier with only our group was so wonderful! read more

I would avoid this company at all cost!!! I booked 6 tours for March 2020 with my family and my son who was deployed to Ukraine. I had to cancel due to covid19 travel restrictions. Original terms stated full refund if cancelled at least 24 hrs in advance. Was promised refunds with a 30-90 day wait. After several months was told I was only eligible for a credit for future tours! It seems they changed the terms after the fact. I obtained a copy of the actual terms in force at the time of my purchase, but Discover credit card refuses to help and is allowing this fraud. I have emailed THE TOUR GUY(THE ROMAN GUY) with no response except to tell me I get a credit for future tours plus 25%. Even though the terms clearly state any attempts to reschedule that don't fit my itinerary would result in a FULL REFUND without restrictions. I'm not going to Europe now because my son is home...so the credit is useless to me. Dishonest company. Run the other direction from them!!! read more

Such great tours!!! We booked The Roman Guy for two of our tours - the VIP Sistine Chapel and the VIP Colosseum tours. Book these now (seriously - buy the VIP tours they are so worth it!!!! You get to see such great things without the lines and without all the people!). In both cases the tour guides were extremely nice and very knowledgeable of the areas that we were visiting. We never felt rushed - they answered so many questions, and really gave us more in depth information that I had expected. I would DEFINITELY recommend this company for your Rome tours! I suggested them to several other people that we met while staying in Rome! The entire staff was very helpful and I felt the prices were very reasonable for all that we got. It appears that we have had the BAD same experience as other customers with this company. Please be cautious if you plan to book The Tour Guy, Parent of the Roman Guy for any of your tours/excursions. Out of all the companies we dealt with regarding a cancellation (hotels and airlines included) of a recent vacation due to the pandemic, they are the ONLY company that refused to honor their cancellation policy and issue us a full refund. They sent me an email on their letterhead, stating that a full refund would be processed in a minimum of 30-90 days (we cancelled in March for a June tour), however months after agreeing to issue the refund, they changed their policy and issued us a credit instead. They refused to acknowledge their previous policy, even though I have it in writing and they chose to ignore the fact that they had already agreed to issue the refund. They have been dishonest in their business practice so please exercise caution if you use them - they WILL NOT honor their own policies. read more

I booked a tour with The Roman Guy in December for an anticipated August trip to Rome and the Amalfi Coast. Plans changed and I canceled my trip to Rome in March. With international travel, plans can change especially in these times. One of the selling points of The Roman Guy was their cancellation policy that ALL tours are refundable up to 24 hours out which makes sense, because it is a TOUR. I cancelled and requested a refund mid-March. 60 days later I get a response, GOOD NEWS, I get a credit plus 50% for a future trip! I replied that I wanted a refund, not a credit. The Roman Guy replied because of COVID-19 they will not refund canceled tours, and "our decision is final". Zero service or funds were extended by The Roman Guy and they refuse to return my money. Their website cancellation policy still fraudulently states they will offer refunds more than 24 hours prior to your tour. So in these trying times, I'm out $314 from a two-bit deposit scam. I have no idea how their actual tours are and will eventually make it to Rome, but ZERO CHANCE I will use a company that has such shady business practices and will use one of the hundred other tour companies out there. read more

Had Natalia for an end of the day tour of the Basilica. She was energetic and fun and was able to talk to the tour (primarily adults) as well as my 4yo daughter and keep her engaged. She even took a turn in carrying said 4yo which was beyond amazing for this exhausted parent. Took us to odd and off the beaten track places with facts that really gave us a better flavor of the true Venice. read more

My boyfriend and I picked the VIP Vatican City/Sistine Chapel tour. You meet in front of the Vatican museum at 7:15 AM. I am not a morning person but the tour was so worth it. We were able to go into the Sistine Chapel before general public for about 20 minutes. Our tour guide Elaine was fantastic. She had a great sense of humor, she was professional and because she has been doing these tours for 10 years very knowledgeable. With this tour you also get special access to St Peter's Basilica without having to get into another line. Remember this is a religious site so you can't wear shorts or tank tops and need to be dressed modestly. When we finished our tour and went outside, no joke there was probably 1,000 people in line for general public access. The cost is so worth skipping the lines and having a guide explain everything. After the tour guide is finished you have the opportunity to stay within the Vatican City and walk around- even to go back into the Basilica. Would book another tour with them in the future. read more

We are a family of four ("children" are 20 and 24). We had a tour of the Vatican/Sistine Chapel/St. Peters. The trip was booked on the day we arrived in Rome. Our tour guide Barbara, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The depth of her knowledge, her ability to know where the best vantage points were when viewing something were invaluable. I agree with another poster who said that you are missing something if you do not have some sort of tour. I am thrilled that we found the Roman Guy. It is money well spent especially if you are limited in your time Rome. Skipping the line tours are essential especially during this time of the year when tourism is at its height. We decided to fly into Rome for a few days before we head to the Amalfi Coast for the sole reason to do the Colosseum VIP Night Tour with underground access etc. This was going to be the high light of the trip for my husband. We booked this in February, Well we get an email a few weeks before the trip saying sorry but this wont be happening. After calling them to see what the hell is going on, I find out they never had the tickets to begin with. They presell based on past experience in regards to what the Colosseum will release. They have nothing for the few days we are there. But they will refund me....Gee do you think? Very unethical practice. I will never book with them, I see another poster had the same experience. Its not just on a Sunday ours was on a Tuesday. We also spent major $$$ to fly into Rome instead of Naples to the Amalfi Coast for the sole purpose of this special tour. FALSE ADVERTISING!!! We did the Night Tour that includes the lower/underground level that is not open to the public during the day. I would highly recommend it! There were only a couple other groups inside the Colosseum, so we didn't have to fight the crowds. The underground portion of the tour was also fascinating. My wife and I greatly enjoyed our tour of the Vatican art collections and St. Peter's Basilica with The Roman Guy tours. Our tourguide, Ami, had to contend with stifling heat and (always) thronging crowds, but retained her good cheer and infectious personality. In addition addition to being very professional and knowledgeable (especially about the succession of Popes as it relates to the collections), Ami was a delight to be around. I was on a cruise and only had access to the internet when on shore. I had arranged months in advance via Viator a small group tour with a guide at the Vatican for 5 at 3 pm on the day I was arriving in Rome with the Roman Guy. 3 pm gave us time to get off the ship, drive over 1 1/2 hours to Rome and find our way to where the tour was going to begin. The day before the tour was to take place, I was on a tour of the Amalfi Coast, when I saw an email saying the Vatican tour time had been changed from 3 to 1. That was fine with us, as we anticipated getting to Rome between 10:30 and 11 the next day, and we would still have time to get to the tour. Then I received an email saying the tour had been changed to start at 10:30 am. This would not work for us, so I spent a long time on the phone with Viator to cancel this tour rather than enjoying the Amalfi Coast. Viator canceled the tour with The Roman Guy and found us another tour, but could not arrange for a tour with a guide at such short notice. We were disappointed, but at least we were going to the Vatican on the only day we had available to do so. As we arrived in Rome and were unloading our luggage at 10:30 am, the tour guide from The Roman Guy called to ask where we were. I told him how inappropriate and unprofessional it was to change a tour time so drastically and asked for an explanation of why they had changed the time. All the guide would say as an explanation was, "It was beyond his control." No apology. I am usually very happy with the several tours I have booked with Viator, so was very surprised at the poor service from this subcontractor. read more

I have not yet had the pleasure of experiencing a tour with The Roman Guy, but I have had the pleasure of working with Amirah, one of the administrative employees working for the company in Philadelphia. She recently informedc me that one of the two tours I booked in Rome through The Roman Guy had been canceled by the venue, so not of their doing. I was distraught, I had been very much looking forward to this particular tour. Amirah, not only helped me find another similar tour with a different company, she also found a coupon code so that I could get a discount for the replacement tour! That is customer service!! If Amirah is any indication of the caliber and quality of employee that The Roman Guy Tours hires, then I am quite sure the Vatican Tour I have booked with them will be tremendous. read more

We took the Privileged Entrance tour to the Vatican & Sistine Chapel with the Roman Guys on Oct 11 2016 with guide Elaine, and she was fantastic. As advertised, the tour skipped the lines and Elaine was a fountain of knowledge, having conducted tours of the Vatican for over 10 years. The group was small (12 people), very manageable, and Elaine was no-nonsense, and not only had a great sense of humor, but also managed the group with tact & control. It was a great tour, with a lot of insight and insider information. She really knows her art & the Vatican & Sistine Chapel. I would highly recommend this small-group tour. read more
