Don't book with The Roman Guy/The Tour guy unless you want your trip to Rome to be a total let down. I booked the "Rome in a day" tour in which my family was supposed to visit the colosseum, Vatican, St. Peter's, among other things. I booked this tour months in advance as an excursion on a port day in Rome while on a cruise. The day before the tour I received a message that the tour would be starting early. I called and explained to the company that we were on a cruise and could not be at the meeting point at the new starting time. I was told that the group would not go to the colosseum until the afternoon and I could meet the tour there and still be able to tour the colosseum, Vatican, and St. Peter's. They also told me that the tour guide would reach out to me the next day at 8:30 am. When I never heard from the tour guide the next morning I called the company back. They said they could not find any record of me calling the day before. However, they tell me again that I could meet the group at the Colosseum. They gave me a specific time and place to meet the group. After waiting for the group at the meeting point for nearly 2 hours with no sight of them I called the company back. They responded with, "Oh sorry. They already went in." My teenage boys were so let down because they had looked forward to these tours for months. And to pour salt on the womb they refused to reimburse me because "I was late for the tour" even though they changed the meeting time to earlier for no reason at all!! read more

Maura was fantastic. Our driver was very chivalrous and a safe driver. Safe driving is hard considering how crazy Roman traffic is! Maura came to Rome for university to study art history from a smaller Italian city, and she never left. She's so knowledgeable about each famous artwork. You'll hear about the legends behind the rivalries of Roman architects and sculptors. You'll learn about the Popes and kings who have built, demolished, recycled and stole the art and buildings throughout Roman history. Our tour was wonderful. You got to see many of the main attractions and she gives you great history, art, and context for the way Rome is created. Maura was kind, patient and has plenty of little surprises for you. What a great way to see all of the main attractions in a succinct way without walking as much. You do walk at least 3km. But there are brief car rides in between some sites. read more

Same as many here. The cancellation policy that was in effect when I booked a tour allowed for a full refund and I cancelled because of COVID. I talked to someone when I cancelled and got an email that said I was getting a refund in 30 to 90 days. It never came. I checked the website and the refund policy was still up so I called back and after a lot of calls and emails I talked to someone again. They told me I would get a refund after giving me a hard sell to take a voucher with 50% extra tacked on. As I was out the money for other people's bookings I asked again for the refund and was told I would receive it. I waited two more weeks and got an email telling me I was given the voucher. I didn't want the voucher, didn't ask for the voucher and don't know why I got the voucher. Do not use this company. Also apparently they take away the 50% extra bonus when you complain about this treatment on-line so yea great company here. Look I know things are rough but they continued to have the full refund policy on their website for weeks after they had stopped giving refunds so that was very annoying and I talked live to two people over the span of a month and I was assured and got emails to prove I was getting a refund and then I never did. read more

Went on the Rome in a Day tour. Eleanor was our guide and she did a fabulous job. We started at the Vatican, and finished in the Coliseum. Walking through the streets throughout the day. Eleanor was well versed in the history of Rome and gave us great information everywhere we visited. Sandra was our tour guide for an outstanding tour of Rome in a Day! The tour started at the Colosseum and ended at St. Peter's Cathedral. We had stops at the Trevi fountain, the Vatican museums including the Sistine chapel, as well as many other historical sites. We could not of had a better tour guide. Sandra was excited and informative about her own city and its history. She made us feel as though we were in the Colosseum at the time of ancient Rome. Heartless, detestable business! We booked a private tour because we're older and wanted to go at our own pace and that costs over US$1000. The website prominently displays 24 hour cancellation image on the first page. After adding the private tour to the shopping cart, and going to check out, it displays that there's a 24 hour cancellation for group tours (7 day cancellation wasn't mentioned and the customer support person stated that the 24-hour-phrase wasn't shown when booking a private tour and I have a screenshot showing it was present!). If you go to the terms and conditions, the fine print does have a statement stating that private tours require a seven day cancellation notification. I got the 24 hour notification in the back of my mind, and eventually proceeded on my cruise to Italy. Six days before the tour, I was diagnosed with Covid and quarantined to my room for 6 days, no exceptions. We were so looking forward to seeing Rome, the Vatican, Sistine chapel, and the Colosseum. Upon notifying the tour guy, a.k.a. the Roman guy, that I could not leave the ship and do the tour six days beforehand, I was told of the seven day cancellation policy, and that there would be no refund nor a credit given. (You really want to book tours through your cruising company so that they can cancel without penalty should you become sick.) DO NOT EVER BOOK A PRIVATE TOUR WITH THE TOUR GUY OR THE ROMAN GUY! We booked a private tour with Roman guy for april 2020 in Florence. Covid hit, I contacted them and was told 30-90days for a refund. 90 days came, no refund. I contacted them again and they changed their website to reflect a different refund policy from their original agreement. Long story short, they offered a voucher for up to 2 years. REALLY? Incredible tour experiences with the Roman Guys. Our first was a walking tour of the Coliseum and Roman Forum. We had a glitch where I ordered and paid for online an underground tour. I got an email a few days later that there was a system glitch and the tour I booked was full. I was able to talk to a woman on the phone who spoke perfect English to select a different tour and they promptly refunded me the difference. Mary, our Coliseum guide, was lovely. She was an expert in the field and had even excavated on Palatine Hill while in school. The tours truly are 'skip the line' - I know that seems to be a concern when booking them and I felt that we got in quicker than most, even though we had to wait a few places. Our tour of the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and Basilica were FABULOUS as they were lead by Papa Franco - Frank was a wonderful guide and pointed our eyes in the right direction to catch everything you can in 3 hours. My only complaint, if one can call it that, is that hen you book, the company is great at offering you 10% off on your next tour. Unfortunately because I booked two tours simultaneously, I lost that benefit, which really would have been nice. The meeting spots were easy to find. The two guides were my favorite people in Rome - sincere and honest. You won't be disappointed in them - just don't book your multiple tours all at once! read more

Please DO NOT EVER USE THE TOUR GUY (aka THE ROMAN GUY)!!! I booked several tours with them in January 2020 for a trip to Italy that was supposed to occur in June 2020 (over $3500 worth!). They have been promising me a full refund since March 17, 2020 for tours that were not supposed to happen until mid June. They even sent me an email confirmation of the refund there were going to issue. They asked me to wait 30-90 days. I agreed. They called me in mid May asking if I'd accept a voucher and I declined. I called again and emailed. Now (early June) they decided to say that they've changed their policy and will only issue a voucher. And if I try to dispute it they will win and it will take up significant time for me to do so. And they added a nice and nasty touch of automatically issuing a voucher the day after I told them that I would contest the charge with my credit card company if I had to. My credit card company just said that if a voucher is issued they won't dispute the charge - something The Tour Guy already knew. My wife and I did the early entry Vatican tour. Anyone thinking of going to the Vatican without some sort of tour guide is making a huge mistake; the lines are insane and you could easily waste your entire day without really seeing anything. I am extremely pleased we chose The Roman Guy for our tour! Our guide, Jad, had extensive knowledge of all the tour highlights, and provided some good jokes along the way. At times, the crowds were a little overwhelming, and it was tough to keep up with the group, but that is just an inevitability with how busy the Vatican gets. This was the most outstanding full day tour of Rome highlights that I can imagine. Tour started at 9:00 a.m. and ended at 5:00p.m. Started with detailed tour of the Collossium inside and out. Next a guided walk through the Forum. Now comes the history we passed in route to the Trevi Fountain for the coin toss. Next a time for lunch on our own. The guide stopped in a plaza with many food choices nearby. Then air conditioned transportation to the Vatican. This was so well presented by our guide. It made this whole day wonderful due to the quality of the guide. Loretta C. Was our guide and she was professional, caring, constantly counted her people so not to lose anyone. She dealt with a 40C day by stopping at water points and keeping us in the shade as much as possibly. She carried photo illustrations of all the high points to show how the ruins appeared a couple thousand years ago. She answered all the questions and made all the facts interesting. This was the biggest waste of money, so I will tell you why, and what I should have done so you can avoid the same situation. I resigned myself to paying the exorbitant fee for this tour for 2 reasons: 1st, we had very little time in Rome (2 days) and I wanted to make efficient use of it by getting into the Vatican Museums early and avoiding the security line at St. Peters. and 2nd, So we could have the Sistine Chapel to ourselves for a little while (this was implied in the description and I figured was why the price was so ridiculous) As for this reason, it was a waste, as you are in the chapel with many other tour groups who all claimed the same thing, and when we went back later the crowds weren't ,much different, but since you are only looking UP, it didn't matter anyway. Anyway, back to the 1st. What they don't tell you is that you get into the Vatican Museums, see the Sistine Chapel and Rafael Rooms, then leave to go to St. Peter's through the access tunnel, avoiding security, so far so good. But imagine you want to go back and spend more time in one of the most amazing museums in the world after the tour? You are screwed. Not only would you have to buy another ticket to get in, by that point the line is so long to get in you will be in it all day. I felt so cheated. Like I had paid $200 to get special access to the Louvre, saw the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo and that's it. There is SO MUCH I wanted to see in the Vatican Museums that I had to miss out on because of the way this tour was structured. Here's how I SHOULD have done it, and saved $200 along with the awkwardness of shuffling wound in a group with a static-y headset and guide who you have to struggle to understand with a thick Italian accent. Arrive early, slightly before opening to avoid the lines (or buy your ticket online) and be one of the first into the Museum. See all you want before it gets too crowded, and enjoy the collections. (a ticket is 17 euro, I think) You probably want to hit the Rafael rooms first before they get too crowded, but don't worry about he Sistine Chapel, like I mentioned before, since everyone is looking up, you don't notice the crowds too much. Once you are finished in the Museums, head tot he Sistine Chapel and leave notice the exit that says it is for tour groups only. That will get you to St. Peter's without going the long way and waiting in the security line. There are so many tour groups and so many people no one will notice you tagging along with one of the groups. Just act like you belong. Extra points if you wear a lanyard and/or a headphone in one ear. Then you can get your fill of St. Peters and be done in time for a late lunch. You will get to see everything and only pay a small fraction of what groups like this charge. You're welcome. read more

We took the Colosseum tour with private access to the underground and third level, along with a tour of Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum. Our guide with Viviana and she was incredibly knowledgeable, passionate and friendly. She answered every question thoughtfully and provided so much context throughout the tour that would have been totally lost on me if I had gone out on my own. The special access to the Colosseum was amazing, we saw everything from a different perspective and got to take pictures and enjoy the views without all the crowds on the other levels. I booked three tours via The Roman Guy five months before our trip - spending nearly $2,000. One of the tours was a Night Underground tour of the Colosseum. When we book all of the Underground tours were open - any day, any time we were in Rome. Today, I receive an email stating my tour was canceled because the Colosseum was no longer offering tours on Sunday night, and there are no alternatives for us to see the Underground on ANY of the days we are in Rome. They kept blaming the Colosseum for canceling the Sunday tours - but The Roman Guy offered it as an option and took my money. Had they not listed it as an option - I would have chosen another Underground tour on a different day - no we are out of luck. We booked the vacation to Rome specifically so my kids could do this tour - very disappointing. Horrible customer service. Buyer beware. read more
