We finally tried The Rook and loved it. The service was swift and friendly and the sandwiches were excellent! Can't wait to come back in the summer when the bar is hopping. A buddy of mine told me they make a hell of a chicken cheesesteak and he was 100% correct. The chicken honey habanero was awesome as well. This is the newest restaurant on the island that replaced Goodnight Irene's. They gave the place a full makeover which is a major upgrade to the aesthetics. They have a small outdoor area that features live music on weekends. We waited an hour for a table and it was worth the wait. We were there with a party of 8 and everyone loved the food and cocktails. I had the Sea Serpent smash burger with bacon jam and blue cheese, sriracha aioli and grilled shrimp and it was fabulous as were the steamers. read more

Former home of Goodnight Irene's is now The Rook. The owners invested heavily and it's become a much nicer venue. But a very different venue. Don't come here looking for Irene's. That time has come and gone. The new space is really nice. Inside boasts multiple beers on tap, friendly bartenders, big TV screens and a fresh clean vibe. Inside though needs some sound absorption. Too many hard surfaces. Put some cushions on walls or ceilings. Outside is a great place to kick back, unwind and cool off after a day at the beach. I wouldn't change a thing except asking the staff to be a little quicker. Talk to customers but respect the crowd you're facing and pour the drinks fast. Don't make me chase you. I'll visit The Rook again in the future after they mature a bit and figure out a few things. For now I'll pass. read more

The burgers are delicious! But make sure you check your receipt against the menu. The prices we were charged were higher than listed on the menu (all by $1). It was so hectic it was not worth trying to get it resolved. We have been there several times. If it is not crowded it is a good place to go. Nice atmosphere and staff is very friendly. When it gets busy it goes down hill quickly. Never got more than one drink, got seated quickly but took a long time to get anything but water, food was very slow and not correct (didn't hold onions). Would probably go back for happy hour but not a weekend night again. read more

I just was not impressed....just perpetual average for me. Goodnight Irene's had so much character but this isn't a comparison thing. Yeah, the small dining room with loud kids screaming was remodeled nice but what does that do for me? I came for atmosphere, fun, maybe a really decent bartender outside. The weird part was the guy who was bartending was either hosting his friends or off the clock co-workers. I sat at the bar for 45 minutes and only got one beer. Getting his attention was impossible and eye contact was against the law. And to be honest, he wasn't there much. I read some reviews and some people were very positive about their food. I saw it as mediocre, slow and way "portion challenged." The prices are on the high side and I feel I really have accurate expectations being in a tourist area. 15 bucks for a watered down crush in a plastic cup? Easy pass. Good luck. read more

Went in for lunch about a month or so ago. My husband had The Single Smash with fries and I got the Crab cake Sandwich which also came with fries. Both were very reasonably priced and delicious. Th atmosphere is very nice and the bartender was friendly and chatty which we also enjoyed. Service was good and food came out in a timely manner and was hot! I highly recommend it. Being a year round resident of Wildwood, I was excited to try The Rook. My family and I frequented Irene's before they sold, and we were hoping to keep this as a weekly place. Unfortunately I don't think it will be that for us. The renovations are mostly good, it feels a little small inside compared to how it was, but I love the choices for flooring and colors. The service was good, Vaughn and another gentleman were running the bar and serving food. Food wise, nothing was bad, but nothing was good enough to have us wanting to come back. The wings were fine, but the blue cheese was very runny and had a strange after taste. The kids smash burger was okay, the fries were good... but neither item was hot. The calamari also was barely warm and very greasy, so only the top layer was crispy at all. Everything needed salt and pepper. read more

We visited The Rook on their second night open, knowing it was a soft opening. When we sat at the outside bar, the bartender immediately let us know what they didn't have yet due to the soft launch, which was super helpful! The updated patio looks great and has plenty of tables and chairs. We stopped in just for a drink this time, but after looking over the dinner menu, we'll definitely be back. The space got a nice refresh and the drinks were good. A little improvement is needed on their "crushes," but we're hopeful that's just a soft opening hiccup. read more

Food was decent. Tried wings, pretzels, and chicken sandwich. Don't go for football though. They don't put the sound on and only play country music. I guess they are trying to be the Honky Tonk 2? Saw several people come in and leave when they didn't hear the game on. No real need to return other than it's a block away from us. If only Irene's hadn't run itself out of business. read more

The Rook Wildwood now occupies the iconic Goodnight Irenes space on Pacific Ave in Wildwood. The interior looks great; there's a plan to include upstairs dining as well. The menu and staff (both of which were in serious need of an upgrade while in the dying days of Irene's) have been rebooted. The brick oven is still there. We had the wings, tots, and a pizza. All had me wishing that Irene's had closed sooner. The food is good. Only complaint is the pricing for Pacific Ave. $14 crushes, $9 stateside Ice Teas, $6 Miller Lite Cans? Let's not try to pay for the property in the first year guys. read more

Wings are ok but chewy, sauce is better than the wing. Stick with the smash burgers bc the chicken sandwiches are bad. They pound the chicken super thin and there is no flavor to it...it's more like chicken jerky. there's more vegetables and cheese than there is chicken. My son and I had lunch at the Rook Wildwood last week. I had visited the Rook Manayunk many times before and always had a great experience, so I wanted to visit the Rook's newest location in Wildwood . We sat out on the patio area. It was a delicious lunch. I had the bear chicken cutlet sandwich and my son had the chicken tenders and french fries . It was a great atmosphere. The blueberry lemonade drink from the bar was delicious too. The server was very pleasant too. I will definitely be returning in the future. read more

First time back since "Good Night Irene's" ... The new construction and atmosphere is superb and nothing less than breath taking from what it once was. But once you sit down and see workers in uniform sitting at the bar while you're reviewing the high price menu, poor customer service and time management. It's far from its potential. Happy to try it again but the rook needs some time to crack down and critique its systematics on foh management, customer service, and realistic prices. Philly to the Jersey shore are 2 different animals. I believe the owners will hurdle these obstacles and the Rook will uphold his menu value and venue. Hope when return I can, with pride, give the establishment 5 stars. Just not yet. read more

Was was just there this past Saturday smash burgers were good. Service was very good but the drinks!!! It states one price on the menu and when you get your bill, there's a difference in price by two dollars and that was explained as the liquor tax but there's also a state tax so a $14 drink went to $16 and a $4 beer became a $6 beer. I think the full price of the drink should be stated on the menu include the tax so people know what they're paying. Year-round resident we used to go to the old. Good night Irene's on Saturdays for a pizza and a couple beers. I find The Rook way overpriced. read more

Pricing is too high. Food portions too small. Had mussels, honestly were the smallest I ever had. And the bread that comes with it was rock hard. Also had the clams another day and they were pretty good. But again rock hard bread. read more

Terrible service, long wait after ordering food, forgot to make one of our sandwich, OVERPRICED for the servings, drinks were weak and extremely expensive.. A lot of other nicer restaurants to go to....save your money. read more
