Stopped by around 11:30am to grab a drink as it was on my way to somewhere I needed to be. Cozy spot that you can tell locals frequent. Very unique in that it's run out of a century house. There's a sign to use the side door, which you can get a taste of the interior decoration. I ordered almost immediately since there was no line, although there were many patrons already seated and some who had just ordered. While waiting, I sat down at an available table, and noticed that there is also a back patio where you can sit as well. Even though I ordered for takeout, the staff brought my latte over to me. They did forget to bring my carrot cake with it, so I did have to ask for it as I was leaving, but they were apologetic about it. The carrot cake was really good! I found the coconut flakes topping a bit overwhelming, but that could be just because I'm not a huge fan of coconut. There's free street parking: however depending on how busy it is, you may need to find a street to turn on to find it on the opposite side (which happened to me today). read more

We ordered Dandy latte as non-caffein option that was so delicious. So, I even searched the ingredient to make it at home until my next visit to here. They have very spacious back patio. This was part of our little city escape up north and we stopped here as a resting spot. I wasn't expecting much beyond a coffee break, but it turned out they focus more on alternative-style drinks. I went with the Medicinal Hot Chocolate and it caught me completely off guard in a good way. Cinnamon, cardamom, maple syrup, and Himalayan salt are not the usual suspects in a hot chocolate, but the mix worked surprisingly well. It was soothing, comforting, and felt like something made with intention. That said, anyone not familiar with the raw cocoa flavour might not immediately think of it as a traditional hot chocolate. The cafe itself is warm, scenic, and very welcoming. I really liked the decor, which feels like stepping into an old Canadian home with a lot of charm. It is the kind of place you could sit for a while without feeling rushed. I would definitely like to come back before winter sets in again. read more

What a sweet little gem in king city! The roost is an adorable little cafe serving up premium drinks and alternative food items. I ordered a dandelion root latte which I've never heard of or tried before but it was comparable to the flavour of coffee without the caffeine and offers some other health benefits, I also had a brownie that was made from black beans and it was a little healthier tasting but actually quite delicious. I love that there is something for everyone, from cookies to vegan/gluten free snacks, everyone can be accommodated. The space is really beautiful and welcoming, it feels like a little schoolhouse or something made into a cute and cozy coffee shop. I love the decor, it's funky and warm. The people working there were also very nice and answered any questions I had about the selection of drinks and food. Prices were reasonable, I'd say it's comparable to any higher end coffee shop like a Starbucks etc...but you're supporting a local business and you'll just enjoy coming here a lot more! We keep coming back every time we're in Toronto. The vibes are so cute, beautiful decor. If it's nice and warm- we always have a picnic outside, dogs and kids are very welcome! 4.5 rounding down to 4. Came in yesterday (around 9am on a Friday morning) to meet a friend, who had suggested we come here to grab a coffee before a work event nearby. I looked them up on the map and I knew the parking situation, i.e. some street parking, or perhaps a public lot a couple hundred metres north of Keele on the west side. As it turned out, I was able to find street parking easily. I approached the super cute heritage house which the cafe shares with another business. You enter from the back and immediately see that it's a one-of-a-kind, cute and quaint place. Being as I was pretty much darting in to meet my friend and quickly get just some coffee, I was a little disconcerted to find the signage for offerings a little lacking (no prices.) They do have samples of their cups for sizing out. I was waiting a little bit while some of the staff were preparing items. Another staff inquired with one of them whether I had yet been served and since the answer was, No, she came over and started taking my order. I asked about the drip coffee offerings (straight drip dark roast, to which you can add an order of flavoured syrup Starbucks-style), and I decided on a large size sans syrup. What I did appreciate was that even though it was a minimum order for which I use a rewards credit card for, she took the initiative and actually skipped over the automatic tip query before I paid. Since I don't carry cash much, I felt compelled to mention that I would have added one but she genuinely seemed to feel that the machine shouldn't be making that decision for me, which, again, I truly do appreciate. As I looked around the beautiful seating space and peaceful surrounding view, I wished I had time to enjoy this lovely cafe a little more. Next time I'm in King, I will definitely head back in to enjoy it some more. read more

I'm not a regular coffee drinker but if I have to find a cup of joe I'd rather find an independent cafe. I was looking for a place to get some work done in the area and came across The Roost on Yelp. I was going up north on Keele and actually missed it a couple of times. Their brown colored sign really blended into the background and well... the cafe was actually an old house so maybe that's why I had missed it. Upon entry, The Roost had a very homey, down to earth feel to it. Unfortunately I didn't get the same vibe from the barristers who did greet me but in a rather stoic manner. To be fair they did chit chat (while not a super animated one) with a few regulars later during my stay perhaps that explains why I didn't get that sort of response (since I'm not a regular?). The cappuccino I got was good. No nonsense no latte art. Chocolate croissant looked home baked. The croissant was generally flaky but I think it could still use more butter. The croissant filling despite not having been heated up felt like it had a bit of runny melting consistency which was nice. But at the same time to achieve this something had to be mixed in with the chocolate to achieve this which took away from the chocolatey taste. So it's a bit of a catch 22. The filling reminded me a bit of Eastern European chocolate dessert or pastry where the chocolate is not as intense as it could be for chocolate lovers. The place is quite busy and had a steady flow of customers so it may not be the most ideal place to sprawl and get work done for more than three hours. WiFi is not offered as far as I know. Not to mention the street parking outside also has a three hour limit (they don't offer any parking space other than the street parking outside). It's a little bit out of the way for me from home and neither the drink, food nor people blew me away so it's unlikely I would come back. read more

Love this cute quaint little coffee shop, located in the heart of King City. They have a beautiful backyard patio for when the weather is good, as well as lots of indoor seating for 2-4 people. They offer pilot coffee roasters coffee which is great. I normally order an espresso or long black when I visit. They have amazing soups, bowls, and other food options for lunch. This can easily be my favourite cafe if I lived in king city. We stumbled upon the roost cafe as we were in the area and in a seriously need of caffeine. Situated in what looks like a heritage home, this cafe is super quaint with a serene view of the valley. The decor is tastefully rustic which is very fitting to the location and view. I ordered an americano with blueberry almond cookie while the Mr. ordered a turmeric latte. The cookie is gluten free and freshly made each day. They also have other baked goods like butter tarts, croissants and even sandwich and soups. This is a hidden gem if king city! read more

This a a cozy, cute place to bring a book or friend to. They have lunch and dessert options. The staff was friendly and accommodating as I am vegan. They didn't know off hand if their chai latte was vegan, but were careful to read though the ingredients. I would go back. This cute little café in King City is a nice alternative to the typical Starbucks/Tim Hortons. The coffee and lattes are decent and the place has a home-y feel with it's country décor and local art. I like to come here on the weekend during a walk around town since it's the only time I can catch them open. It would be nice of the hours were extended later into the night, but understandable as the location is hard to justify it. read more

My daughter and I used to go to Roost Cafe quite frequently, but today I came there with my French bulldog pup. I was holding him on my arms and I asked just at the entrance if dogs were allowed, as there were no any sign about doggie policy there. They told me that dogs were allowed on the patio (as it was anticipated). I went outside, tided the leash to a porch pole, made it short and than came in to order. The dog was away from any customer (they were either inside or on the second floor terrace). A trainee at the cash was a bit slow and my doggy started softly whining. Not barking but whining like a puppy. The manager there has given me such a look, and asked me in passive-aggressive manner if the dog would be continuing like that "because some customers are afraid of dogs". I must say that from the very first seconds I was given a non-verbal hint, that dogs and their owners were not welcome in that place. I understood, and first took it easy. But the manager was creating more and more tension about it all, and I ended up just leaving before even getting my order. Keep your change. I do not enjoy my coffee and sandwich if I am treated like something very disturbing, if not to say inappropriate. It's unfortunate that from now on I will be associating this place with this a very unpleasant episode. So, I will not go there again. Morning coffee is for a good mood, not for facing grumpy faces ;) As for their coffee... as far as I remember it was good, but a bit overpriced. Add to it slow service and a manager who manages to create a problem where there was no problem at all, and make your own decision if you go there or not. I wouldn't. read more

Writing this review based on customer service. The waitress was very rude. We were waiting in line to order take out (e.g coffee), the waitress came out and looked at my family of 5 people and immediately said, "we're not taking anymore people" When I asked, what about take out, she said, "even that". Then went back in the house, took in the next people in line and closed the door on us. The waitress did not give us an option to wait. The time we got there was at 12:30pm and the cafe closes at 4. We went to this cafe because people have told us the food is amazing. I wish I knew about the customer service. I wonder if the reason why they rejected us was because we were minority? Seems like a bit of a hobby business, not that it's a bad thing. They carry Pilot coffee, and have taken the time to send their staff to Te Aro for basic training in coffee. They have a Simonelli Victoria Arduino and most of the staff seem interested in learning to be good baristas. The space is cute and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Food offerings are decent and they have Kawartha Dairy ice cream. For those who like milk drinks, this is the best option I've found anywhere near Vaughan or King and I expect they will continue to improve with time. read more

This was my first time visiting this place. Found them on IG and it looked quaint with yummy treats. I suggested to meet here with my friend (a bit out of our way) but we wanted to try it. No parking available other than street parking. We both arrived at the same time. I was parking when a lady approached my vehicle to tell me "move up don't take up 2 spots" I responded that I wasn't finished parking and was only trying to signal to my friend to park behind me. Upon entering at the side of an historic building we weren't greeted by any staff and then saw the same lady in the cafe who looked to be the owner. We stood at the entrance waiting, not sure what their protocol was if any, then just sat ourselves at a table. Sitting there for 5 mins no one telling us to go to the counter to order we got up and ordered. Nice variety of items, vegetarian options, in house baked goods and nice variety of coffees and teas. Order was brought to the table food was tasty. We were at our table for 85mins...our table was cleared. We chatted for a few more minutes and the same lady(owner) approached our table and asked us to leave because she needed the table. We didn't plan on staying any longer as we did have to leave but the way she said it left us feeling so unwanted. Nothing was ever mentioned of a time limit. The overall experience left us with such a bitter taste! Definitely will NOT be attending this place again. RUDE and miserable atmosphere. read more

Love Love Love this place! It's the perfect little coffee house. It's so cozy and the food and drinks are delightful. I am addicted to their energy balls and their Chaiwalla tea latte. It's tucked away off of Keele Rd but somehow people are finding it because it's busy every time I'm there! I'm hoping they extend the seating to the front area which is currently a small antique shop. In the summer they have a great deck that looks out at the peaceful yard. King City's hidden gem - really, we just about walked past it. To start, parking - there isn't a great deal of space available (and if you are generally loath to parallel park you might not be pleased) but we got by. The café is situated inside a home (you can sit outside on patio chairs or even promenade in the lush backyard if you please), which initially gave me the heebie-jeebies (is this not what horror films are made of!?) but ended up being the highlight of the experience. If you prefer "cozy" over "commercial" when it comes to coffee venues, the Roost does not disappoint. The interior provides a homely atmosphere, complete with adorable signage and comfy seating next to a giant window which invites a pleasant outdoor view. My friend and I ordered a plain coffee and a chai masala tea, which came up to $4 and change - quite reasonable. Although we agreed that the tea was too light for our liking (to us it tasted heavily watered down), I thought this place was so quant and nicely decorated that the ambiance alone wins the four stars. There are not too many seats (which is part of the concept, I suppose) but we had no trouble finding some and it never felt packed. There is also a bit of background noise from occasional trains passing by but it is hardly any disturbance. I would like to come back to venture into the selection of desserts and salads which, at least at first blush, looks fantastic. read more

They make a dynamite coconut milk latte. Also,enjoyed a chocolate energy ball as a healthier alternative. My son loved the lemonade and homestyle brownie. The front of the house is a tiny antique shop and I believe the building used to operate as a general store from some of the newspaper clippings on the wall.
